That’s nice, Ambrose. And certainly fits you. We were also talking about what we think Karma, Illon, and Amel’s types would be. Any ideas?

"Well..." Ambrose hesitated, thinking. "I don't believe anyone can lable anyone elses type perfectly, but I suppose I could give it a try. For Karma and Illon, I... actually think they're rather similar. My guess would be that they're both looking for someone who's willing to listen to them without putting pressure onto them or trying to make them do things that make them uncomfortable. I think it's rather obvious that both of them have been through some tough things, and if they want anyone at all, my thought is that they'd probably both go for someone kind and very trustworthy, someone who will stick by them no matter what. Of course, that's just a guess. As for Amel, I think he'd want someone who he can take care of, but also someone kind and affectionate."

---

Oh, come on, Esta! Let me sneak out. It’s fun. Plus, I mean, I’ve done it plenty of times and the times where you didn’t catch me, I always ended up fine! So it’s no more dangerous than sneaking out of an abandoned warehouse.

Esta shook her head in amusment. "No, no, and no. Just because you were fine before doesn't mean you'll get so lucky again. Plus, if you start sneaking out again I won't have you all day to rant about relationships and random stuff to!"

---

“Amel… Imagine this. You’re hired by someone to kill some people that keep getting in your new employer’s way. In return, they tell you that they will spare the people close to you. So, you do the jobs, right? But when it comes time for the people you care for to be spared, the employer doesn’t keep his end of the bargain and kills them… That’s why. Someone like that doesn’t get to live happily afterwards, if they get to live at all.”

"Oh." Agnar said, then a look of realization crossed his face and his eyes widened. "OH!" He gasped, turning to face Blair again. "I never thought even Amel would stoop that low." A light of anger flickered in his eyes. "Jesus man, I'm sorry. That's not remotly fair."

The ranger paused, looking around, his face had turned serious and thoughtful for once. "Alright, here's what I'm going to do." He said, crossing his arms, carful not to squish his wrist. "It's quite obvious that you've got good reason to hate Amel. Now, let's say somthing happens, you don't know me, I don't know you. Got it?" He met Blair's eyes with a icy look, one that was very rare for the normally laid-back ranger, and was usually only used when he was going into battle.

"I'm not going to directly aid you, but I can give you some information. A thanks for not killing me, and also because I've got decent reason to dislike Amel myself. First things first, don't be an idiot and attack us all together, if you do, I'll fight on the side of my friends. I will also fight you if you manage to hurt anyone that's not Amel." Agnar smiled sourly. "Next, Amel's leader, but he doesn't really control the group with anything but fear. He's lied to us multiple times and he's hurt people in the process. He doesn't really like us and most of us don't really like him either, once we get back to the city, he'll be leaving us without a doubt. Assuming we actually are going to the city, which I have reason to doubt. Your best option would be attacking after we just split up."

Agnar looked back around, eyes scanning the forest around him. "So, let's say I was jumping from tree to tree and a squirrel ran across the branch as I was in the air, causing me to second guess myself and slip, landing on my bow. The squirrel itself wouldn't have caught me off gaurd, just the fact that it moved when it did, if I was the right height and caught by complete suprise I wouldn't be able to fully process the way I was falling and it would be easy for me to hit the ground wrong. Sound convincing enough?"

His eyes flickered, catching sight of a bright yellow flower and his eyes seemed to soften again. "Oh, and on the way..." He knelt and gently plucked the flower from the ground, holding it gently in his palm. "I'll get my parent a flower, they'll love it and it'll prove that I'm not actually too worried about my injuries and such. So..." Agnar looked back towards Blair. "Deal?"

Well… I don't believe anyone can lable anyone elses type perfectly, but I suppose I could give it a try. For Karma and Illon, I... actually think they're rather similar. Eni nodded, “See, I thought that Karma and Illon would be similar. Not exactly the same, sure. But close enough.

*~*~*~*

No, no, and no. Just because you were fine before doesn't mean you'll get so lucky again. Plus, if you start sneaking out again I won't have you all day to rant about relationships and random stuff to!

Illon raised an eyebrow, “I guess that’s true. So what you’re saying is that I just can’t get caught sneaking out, which I can only do if you don’t have anything to rant about… Got it. I’ll keep that in mind.

*~*~*~*

Oh. OH! I never thought even Amel would stoop that low. Jesus man, I'm sorry. That's not remotely fair. Alright, here's what I'm going to do. It's quite obvious that you've got a good reason to hate Amel. Now, let's say something happens, you don't know me, I don't know you. Got it? I'm not going to directly aid you, but I can give you some information. A thanks for not killing me, and also because I've got a decent reason to dislike Amel myself. Assuming we actually are going to the city, which I have reason to doubt. Your best option would be attacking after we just split up.

--

Blair hadn’t been expecting him to actually aid him in any way. Even if Blair already knew most of the information Agnar was giving him, it was good to know that nobody seemed to like Amel too much. Plus, it was good to have his theories proven by someone other than himself. Agnar apparently didn’t know how to lie very well to someone like him. Then again, no one could actually lie to him in person. But still, this dude wasn’t even trying to.

--

So, let's say I was jumping from tree to tree and a squirrel ran across the branch as I was in the air, causing me to second guess myself and slip, landing on my bow. The squirrel itself wouldn't have caught me off guard, just the fact that it moved when it did. --

Yeah. Sounds like something any normal person would buy.” Blair looked at him for a moment, now that Agnar was standing and talking, he was able to get a better look at him. It was honestly like looking at a mix of… Well. Two people he missed. But it was so refreshing to see someone remotely close to any of them that looking away was, quite frankly, impossible. “…Do you have a favorite book?

--

And then he immediately wanted to punch himself in the face. Really? That was stupid. Curse his memory of Ryan’s love of- He tried not to scowl at himself. That was a bit too close to comfort when it came to remembering people and things he’d rather not.

“See, I thought that Karma and Illon would be similar. Not exactly the same, sure. But close enough.”

Ambrose nodded in agreement. "Right." He said softly, glancing at the trees where Agnar had disappeared. He was starting to get a little worried.

---

I guess that’s true. So what you’re saying is that I just can’t get caught sneaking out, which I can only do if you don’t have anything to rant about… Got it. I’ll keep that in mind.”

"Noooo. I mean that you shouldn't sneak out at all." Esta corrected. "But, if you do manage to slip past me, at least leave a note so I know you're okay."

---

Yeah. Sounds like something any normal person would buy…Do you have a favorite book?”

Agnar looked over at Blair in surprise at the question, then shrugged. No harm in answering. "Well, I don't know that I have a favorite, but I do like most books that involve some kind of action and fantasy. I kind of like Percy Jackson by Rick Riorden, mythology is fun. In all honesty, I don't have much time to read, but when I do I'll read pretty much anything... As long as it's not a biography or something. Those things are boaring."

Agnar paused and hesitated. "Hey, uh... Before I go, you can have this."

The young ranger gently placed the flower he'd picked for Eni on the forest floor and swung his quiver (which had several broken arrow shafts in it) over his shoulder, rummaging for a moment before gently plucking a blue-stained feather off the end of one of the broken arrows. He did this to all his arrows, dying the feathers a bright blue, each expertly chosen and cropped to fly lightly through the air, the color was to make the arrows easier to find. Now, Agnar was offering it as a peace treaty and a parting gift. He smiled.

"A symbol of my promise, yeah? I'm not one to break promises, and this can seal it. Just don't let the others see. Goodbye! We probably won't ever meet again, this was interesting, I promise I'll remember you from the scar I'll undoubtedly have on my back!" Agnar snickered. "I forgive you though!" He knelt, picked up Eni's flower, and trotted back through the trees with a final, mocking bow in Blair's direction. "Bye bye, Nightstalker, and good day."

---

Karma, who had been drifting in and out of a kind of dreamlike trace, finally snapped out of it when Agnar reappeared.

Their shoulders immediately tensed as they realized two things, one, Agnar's bow was gone, and two, Agnar was injured. Karma crept closer to the group so they could better hear what was going on, expecting an explanation.

---

"I offcially hate squirrels!" Agnar exclaimed, startling Isabella and causing her to look up at the ranger as he stomped over rather dramatically. Her eyebrows shot up shen she saw the wounds.

"I was doing perfectly fine, tree hopping like normal, when this foul little creature, who, I might add, was on the other side of the tree when I scouted, ran right in front of me while I was midair! It made me break my bow! I took weeks to make that thing and it's splinters! Plus my back hurts! Not. Cool." Agnar pouted and Bella had to stifle a smirk.

"Are you okay though?" She questioned, eyeing him. His injuries didn't seem too bad, nothing Esta couldn't fix. Agnar smiled.

"Oh yeah, I'm fine. Just angry at stupid squirrels. Oh! Eni! I did find something for you, look!"

Isabella smiled as the ranged proudly held out a pretty yellow flower to his parent.

"I thought you might like it."

Noooo. I mean that you shouldn't sneak out at all. But, if you do manage to slip past me, at least leave a note so I know you're okay.

--

Illon gave her a thumbs up, “Well, of course, I’m not heartless. I would never leave the tent if I didn’t think I’d be fine, and writing a note to tell you that would be no problem.

--

They were a bit confused as to why she wanted a note. It wasn’t as if they were just going to disappear from sight for days on end after sneaking out, she always saw them after a few hours of them leaving. That time not due to injury. So really, as far as they could tell there wasn’t a real reason to leave a note to let her know that they were okay. They were never gone long enough to warrant concern whenever they snuck out.

--

And then it hit them, with all the force of a brick. They had been gone for a lengthy amount of time recently. And, with that in mind, anyone would want to have a note that says they’re okay whenever they’re suddenly not where they were two seconds ago. This wasn’t friendly banter then, this was underlying paranoia that something would happen again. This was that underlying pity shining though, and the underlying guilt that Esta had.

--

Illon didn’t slow their pace, didn’t show they’d realized it at all. They couldn’t help when their eyes averted to the trees, when their thumbs-up went down a bit too awkwardly to not be noticeable. But that stuff could just be written off as them not understanding social cues and mannerisms. It was true that they didn’t have as many of those down as other people.

*~*~*~*

Well, I don't know that I have a favorite, but I do like most books that involve some kind of action and fantasy. I kind of like Percy Jackson by Rick Riorden, mythology is fun. --

Well, at least it wasn’t Hunger Games or something. Blair didn’t need, or want, to think about how similar Agnar would be to… Well, Ryan. He tried not to think about him too much, and instead kept listening as Agnar spoke, watching as the boy set down the flower and plucked a blue feather from a broken arrow. “Hey, uh... Before I go, you can have this. A symbol of my promise, yeah? I'm not one to break promises, and this can seal it. Just don't let the others see. Goodbye! We probably won't ever meet again, this was interesting, I promise I'll remember you from the scar I'll undoubtedly have on my back! I forgive you though!

--

Agnar watched him, the blue feather now in his own left hand. Well, that certainly wasn’t how any of this had been planned to go. He rolled his eyes though and began to turn to continue his voyage of following. “Bye bye, Nightstalker, and good day.

--

Blair staggered a bit at that, turning and looking at Agnar. After a few seconds he turned to walk again and mumbled to himself. “Really? Nightstalker? What kind of nickname is that? It’s not even night.

--

Of course, he wasn’t really upset about it. He just didn’t want to think too much about it right now. Not with some of the wounds fresher than fresh.

*~*~*~*

Right.

--

I offcially hate squirrels! I was doing perfectly fine, tree hopping like normal, when this foul little creature, who, I might add, was on the other side of the tree when I scouted, ran right in front of me while I was midair! --

Are you okay though?

--

Eni looked at Agni, eyes narrowed at the injury. They definitely had to say something about how that broke the promise of being careful. Or the brag of always being careful. Both worked, technically. They got ready to speak, only for Agnar to interrupt.

--

Oh yeah, I'm fine. Just angry at stupid squirrels. Oh! Eni! I did find something for you, look! I thought you might like it.

--

Eni stared at the gift, a small yellow flower, and they blinked a bit to keep themselves from getting emotional. They gingerly took the flower from Agnar’s hands, and then placed it safely between some of the feathers in their wings. Then, they hugged Agnar, gently as to be careful with the wound. They whispered, “I forgive you for not being careful.

--

They pulled away then, and looked at him, speaking at a regular volume again. “You should go see Esta about the injury though.

--

Salen nodded in agreement, shooting a knowing glance at Eni, “Yes, that would probably be wise, Agnar.

"Well, of course, I’m not heartless. I would never leave the tent if I didn’t think I’d be fine, and writing a note to tell you that would be no problem.”

Esta nodded her approval. "Well, I figured that much, but just in case! I trust you though, promise. Just try tostay at least one night before running away next time!"

Agnar blinked in surprise when his parent hugged him, he hadn't expected such an emotional response. Still he smiled and hugged them back, happy that Eni liked his gift. "I forgive you for not being careful. You should go see Esta about the injury though."

"Yes, that would probably be wise, Agnar."

Agnar smiled and nodded. "Yeah, yeah. I'll do that now! I'm fine though!" He stated, waving his good hand and then turning and trotting back to Esta.

"Hey, Illon! Heyyyy, Estaaaaa."

Esta sighed and raised an eyebrow, she knew that tone. "What did you do now, Agnar?" She questioned critically. Agnar gave a sheepish grin and held up his hand.

"Escaped a squirrel." He replied. "I think I sprained my wrist."

Esta placed a light hand on Agnar's shoulder, her eyes taking quick examination of the wounds one the rangers back. "You definitely did." The healer murmured, chewing her cheek.

"There's no swelling though, that's a bit surprising. Usually wounds like this flame up pretty bad." She shrugged. "Well, I suppose that's good. At least there's no infection." She let her power flow through her and into Agnar, healing the wounds quickly. She swayed a litte when she finished, but quickly recovered. Esta had used her power a lot more than this at once, so it didn't take an extrem amount if engery to heal minor wounds like these. "How's that feel?"

Esta questioned. Agnar flexed his wrist. "Great! Thanks, Esta!" The ranger exclaimed, grinning.

"No problem. Watch out for squirrels in the future all right?"

"Yep, for sure! That was not fun!"

Esta chuckled as the youngest member of the group darted off again, this time keeping close to the trees and pulling at branches.

He let out an excited gasp when he spotted a yew tree. He pulled off a long, thick branch and bent it experimentally. "Perfect." He breathed to himself before raising his voice so that everyone nearby could hear. "It's a good thing there's some decent wood around so I can make another bow, though it won't be nearly as good as the last. Otherwise, I might have had to go back and find that damn squirrel again!" He stated, shooting a quick glare into the trees before rejoining Isabella, Salen, and Eni again.

Bella was smirking, amused by Agnar's anger. Agnar was oblivious to this fact.

"Look, Eni! It's yew wood, the best for bows." He examined the wood as he spoke, brushint his fingers over it and already planning out how he was going to carve it. "To make a really good quality bow would take a month, maybe two, but if I use my power and settle for a good, but not great quality bow, it should only take me about two days. I'll make a better one when we get back to the city, when I have time. I'll need to make more arrows too, about half of my shafts are broken."

"You know a lot about bows, how many have you made?" Isabella questioned, sounding genuinely interested now.

Agnar looked over and smiled proudly. "It's my weapon of choice, of course I know a lot about it! I've probably made ten or so in my life, though my favorite was definitely the last."

Isabella nodded. "Very nice. I can't say I've ever made a bow before."

"I could show you!"

"Sure."

---

Karma eyed Agnar suspiciously. A squirrel didn't seem exactly likely, sure it was possible, but Karma honestly found it hard to believe.

Everyone else seemed to believe Agnar though, and they were all talking again, sighing, Karma hesitated and then quickened their pace, brushing silently past Illon and Esta, and the the others, falling silently in step with Amel, unbothered by the fact that Amel probably wouldn't like to sharre the lead. They honestly didn't care.

"Am I the only one who suspicious?" They questioned, their tone steady but quiet as their eyes flickered around.

Well, I figured that much, but just in case! I trust you though, promise. Just try to stay at least one night before running away next time!

--

Illon put a hand to their heart dramatically, decidedly not wanting to bring up what they had just come to the conclusion of. “You wound me, Star. Truly, you do. I would never leave without at least getting to sleep once in your med tent, some of the best sleep I get is in there.” They also decided that they weren’t going to think about how true that was.

*~*~*~*

Yeah, yeah. I'll do that now! I'm fine though!

--

You better, young man!” Eni spoke firmly, a light amused tone hidden in their words. A smile was on their face as they looked at the flower they’d been gifted. They would never be getting rid of that, that was for sure.

*~*~*~*

Hey, Illon! Heyyyy, Estaaaaa.

--

Illon looked over, immediately feeling the bubble around them tighten. It was just Agnar, they tried to reason to themself. It didn’t work.

--

What did you do now, Agnar?

--

Escaped a squirrel. I think I sprained my wrist.

--

Illon furrowed their brows, that definitely didn’t sound like Agnar. But, well, they weren’t good at reading people and the bubble was tight. So who were they to say anything? They did hold back a wince at the wound on his back, averting their eyes to try and not think about anything it could possibly remind them of.

--

You definitely did. There's no swelling though, that's a bit surprising. Usually wounds like this flame up pretty bad. Well, I suppose that's good. At least there's no infection.

--

Instead of looking at the wound, they kept an eye on Esta as she healed it. She had no problem with the wound, of course. She never had any problems with healing someone other than with them. Their eyes found the ground, the bubble tight around them. Things would be so much easier for Esta had they not come, had they’d been left like they had been expecting.

--

How’s that feel?

--

Great! Thanks, Esta!

--

No problem. Watch out for squirrels in the future all right?

--

Yep, for sure! That was not fun!

*~*~*~*

Somewhere in the trees, Blair watched and chuckled quietly at that. The dude was definitely good at lying when he wanted to be, though that was honestly probably the truth. Not much could be fun when he was around, after all. He made sure to stay out of sight and reach as the ranger started messing with branches.

--

Perfect. It's a good thing there's some decent wood around so I can make another bow, though it won't be nearly as good as the last. Otherwise, I might have had to go back and find that damn squirrel again!

--

Amel glanced back. A squirrel? What the hell had happened? There was no way a fucking squirrel had managed to best Agnar. He was willing to admit that much, at least. He huffed though, not going to bring it up, and turned back to leading the way.

*~*~*~*

Look, Eni! It's yew wood, the best for bows. I'll make a better one when we get back to the city, when I have time. I'll need to make more arrows too, about half of my shafts are broken.

--

You know a lot about bows, how many have you made?

--

It's my weapon of choice, of course I know a lot about it! I've probably made ten or so in my life, though my favorite was definitely the last.

--

Very nice. I can't say I've ever made a bow before.

--

I could show you!

--

Sure.

--

Eni thought for a moment and then grinned, “Could you teach me too? Imagine, I’m flying up above everyone with a bow and some arrows- Would be a way easier win than what I’ve been doing for the team so far and all. I mean, come on, my skills with a gun are already fairly good. Aiming has never been a problem when it comes to far away targets, so a bow and arrow should be at least kind of similar.

*~*~*~*

Amel felt as someone came up next to him again, though he pretty easily decided it wasn’t Ambrose based off of the footsteps. He glanced back at the person to see Karma.

--

Am I the only one who’s suspicious?

--

He huffed a laugh, “About the squirrel? Definitely not. I’m almost completely sure that’s a lie.” Of course, he’d never know. Not like Bairugih would. “But what does it matter? What else could’ve happened?

--

Except for the idea that Agnar had a run in with Bairugih, but of course- Like hell he was about to admit that a member of Vipers was still alive and probably seeking revenge. Not when they were so close to the city.

You wound me, Star. Truly, you do. I would never leave without at least getting to sleep once in your med tent, some of the best sleep I get is in there.

As soon as she was sure Agnar was taken care of, Esta turned back to Illon with a warm smile. "My apologies, I am glad that you sleep well there, though. I do try to keep it comfortable! I will say I would be mad if you tried to skip one of our sleepovers, I don't like seeing you hurt, but I do enjoy spending time with you. You could always stop by even when you aren't injured, by the way!" She lowered her voice dramatically. "I can't tell my secrets to anyone else, and I still have way too many stories for you to be skipping on me."

---

Could you teach me too? Imagine, I’m flying up above everyone with a bow and some arrows- Would be a way easier win than what I’ve been doing for the team so far and all. I mean, come on, my skills with a gun are already fairly good. Aiming has never been a problem when it comes to far away targets, so a bow and arrow should be at least kind of similar.

Agnar nodded along excitedly until the last sentence when he flinched and shook his head rapidly, patting Eni's shoulder.

"Okay, no no no. I'll teach you how to make a bow as long as you promise to never compare it to a gun again. I think I'm gonna have to give you some shooting lessons too if you think that. Bows are far superior to guns! Quieter, which makes them easier to hunt with and gives you an edge in far-away combat, especially if you can move fast. You don't have to worry about changing out ammo as long as you have enough arrows, just grab and set. None of that fumbling for more when you didn't realize you were almost out in the first place and then struggling to reload! It is admittedly harder to control, but once you figure it out it's not hard, as long as you've got strong arms!"

Isabella laughed quietly as the young ranger ranted to his mentor with a look of what seemed to be disappointment.

"Well, I wouldn't make that mistake again, Eni! You seem to have earned yourself a lecture from your son."

Agnar shot Isabella a look and then thought of something. "One moment!" He shouted, using his power to race back to the yew tree, carefully choosing two more slightly smaller branches for Isabella and Eni, and then, after looking a moment longer, he spotted a short, thicker branch and climbed up to it. He had to use one of his knives to cut it partly off, but he managed to get what he wanted and he grinned, stuffing the short branch in his pocket and sliding down the tree, darting back to the others.

"I got you guys mini bows!" He exclaimed, holding up the long, slimmer branches. "They probably won't last more than like, an hour, but the practice is always good!" Agnar smiled proudly and looked up at the sky rather thoughtfully.

"Hey guys, if you could be any animal, what would you be?" He questioned suddenly.

---

About the squirrel? Definitely not. I’m almost completely sure that’s a lie. But what does it matter? What else could’ve happened?

Karma narrowed their eyes. Great. Everyone was being stupid and suspicious. Wonderful.

"Right." They muttered, rather annoyed. They didn't care about secrets, people could hide their shit all they wanted. Karma did that all the time, but this felt different. Something felt... wrong.

Now, to say that Karma was paranoid would be an understatement. They were constantly jumpy and worried about literally everything. They'd grown used to feeling like they were always being watched, so they'd shut it out, but the ADHD wasn't the only reason why they were constantly scanning their surroundings. Now, Karma bit their cheek and fell back behind Amel again.

They started fidgeting nervously with their jacket again, but now they added something else as well. As they scanned, Karma started silently shifting branches and leaves, glaring into the forest with a rather anxious expression.

"I fucking hate hide and seek. Especially hide and seek tag. Bad memories. Bad fucking memories." They hissed under their breath, shaking slightly. They had recovered from one panic attack already, but that just made them more anxious than usual. After a panic attack, Karma tended to get easily over-stimulated for the rest of the day... or the next three, depending on how bad the attack was. At the moment, Karma was tense and fighting the paranoid ideas that were popping into their head. Hopefully, this ended soon.

They watched Agnar leave, running off. And despite how much they hated it, they felt the bubble loosen up. If even only barely.

--

My apologies, I am glad that you sleep well there, though. I do try to keep it comfortable! I will say I would be mad if you tried to skip one of our sleepovers, I don't like seeing you hurt, but I do enjoy spending time with you. You could always stop by even when you aren't injured, by the way!

Illon looked over at Esta and waved their hands a bit. “Oh, I don’t know… I don’t want to intrude.

--

Esta simply continued though, her volume much lower. “I can't tell my secrets to anyone else, and I still have way too many stories for you to be skipping on me.

--

Ah. Of course. That stuff. Why else? Why would they ever assume that she’d want them around for something other than to talk about Salen and Isabella? “Haha, yeah.. That’s true…

--

The bubble tightened, forcing their voice to trail off. What would happen once those three got together and Esta had no reason to talk to them about the two? Would she leave, like… Like Ben… She would, wouldn’t she? That’s probably the only reason she had argued on the side to get them back in the first place. So that she’d have someone to talk to about her future girlfriends to…

--

They tried not to deflate too much as they thought, the last thing they wanted was for Esta to worry. She already worried about them enough, already wasted enough of her time and energy on them.

*~*~*~*

Eni grinned softly as Agnar shook his head. A good old lecture was always the best way to move on from things and truly make things normal.

--

One moment!

Salen looked at Eni’s amusedly fond face and then at Isabella. “I don’t know, I think that was their plan! Look at them, Bella!

--

Eni laughed a bit at that, “I’ve heard Agnar talk about bows enough to know the differences between them and guns already. I just like hearing him talk about stuff passionately. It’s a healthy habit to have.

--

I got you guys mini bows! They probably won't last more than like, an hour, but the practice is always good! Hey guys, if you could be any animal, what would you be?

--

Eni smiled, “I’d probably be a bird, given how I already have the wings and all. Maybe an owl specifically?

--

Salen hummed quietly before shrugging, “I’m honestly not sure. I’ve answered the question before, but those times there were obvious correct answers and all, so I’m not sure what I’d actually be. Isabella would totally be a mountain lion though. After all, cougars are known to represent leadership, strength, intuition, power, and feminine aspects. All around, a perfect fit for Bella.

*~*~*~*

Right.

--

Amel nodded and felt as Karma slipped away, rather glad for the solitude that came again. He needed to focus on getting the group to the city. It’d be today, one day of break once they set up a camp for tonight, and then one more day of travel before they got close to the city and all. But still, that was pretty good progress for a trip that had taken a month the first time.

Haha, yeah.. That’s true…

Esta glanced at Illon and smiled lightly. "You know you're my best friend, right?" She questioned. "You're always welcome to stop by at any time. I like having you around!" She had noticed Illon trail off which most likely meant that their 'bubble,' as they described it, was coming into play. This meant Illon was feeling nervous or uncomfortable. That probably meant Esta had said something wrong.

She just hoped Illon recognized that she was being genuine about enjoying their company.

---

I don’t know, I think that was their plan! Look at them, Bella!

I’ve heard Agnar talk about bows enough to know the differences between them and guns already. I just like hearing him talk about stuff passionately. It’s a healthy habit to have.

Bella smirked. "You know, that's fair."

Ambrose smiled quietly as well, he'd been listening silently to the conversation, having kind of melted into the background as he tended to. He didn't ever need or ask for attention, and because of this, he kind of figured the others forgot about him in the moment. Ambrose didn't mind, of course, he was fine with just watching.

I’d probably be a bird, given how I already have the wings and all. Maybe an owl specifically?

Agnar nodded, silently taking note. That was the only answer he really cared about, but he listened happily to Salen as well.

I’m honestly not sure.

Isabella smiled. "Awww, you think that of me? That's sweet! Plus, mountain lions are fucking adorable." She winked. "Well, I personally think that you'd be a dove, as they represent peace and kindness. However, a dolphin could also work, they represent trust, curiosity, wisdom, and loyalty. I think that fits you, wise girl."

Agnar beamed, fully aware that the two were probably flirting, and, fittingly, not caring in the slightest. "Okay, what about me?" He urged, openly curious about what the others thought of him.

Isabella looked at Agnar, pretending to think hard. "Let's see... I think a squirrel suits you just fine, my friend."

"Hey!" Agnar protested, making a face. "Low blow."

Bella laughed. "Sorry, I had to. It was right there."

"I would be mad if it weren't true." The ranger said dramatically, shaking his head. "Oh, the misery! Stuck as my mortal enemy!"

Ambrose smiled softly before finally speaking up. "I actually had an idea for you, Agnar." He said, gaining the attention of the ranger quickly. "I thought an otter might represent you well. Typically, otters represent friendship and family, kindness, peace, and playfulness. They can also stand for grace happiness, empathy, mischief, and never-ending curiosity. All of which I believe fit you."

Agnar blinked in surprise before smiling brightly. "You really think so? Thank you!" He felt a sense of pride wash over him, Agnar had been working hard to keep a constantly optimistic outlook on things and make everyone happy while also looking strong. He'd been worried that he wasn't doing enough, but now, even though he may not have been called the strongest, but if the others agreed with Ambrose, then that meant that he was at least succeeding on showing his happy side and was spreading happiness. Plus, Ambrose said an otter represented friendship and family, the two things that Agnar believed to be most important. Apparently, he was showing that too, that was good!

Isabella smiled softly, it was obvious that, though he was trying to hide it, Agnar was very happy with Ambrose's answer.

---

Ambrose watched Agnar a moment with a warm expression before he caught sight of Karma, walking a little way away, alone and obviously anxious. Worriedly, Ambrose bit his cheek and debated.

It was very possible that Karma wanted nothing to do with him and he'd just make things worse, but if he did nothing at all...

After a moment of hesitation, the traveler smiled quietly at the group he'd been talking with and raised a hand in quiet retreat. "I'm going to go speak to Karma, see you later."

Having said goodbye, Ambrose made his way over to Karma, falling into step with them and causing them to flinch. "What do you want, Ambrose?"

Ambrose didn't flinch, just smiled lightly. "I just wanted to talk, Karma. Is that alright?"

Karma paused a moment, an emotion they hadn't felt in a while rising in their chest. That tone... Ambrose sounded so much like... They pushed the thought away and kept walking. They couldn't do this right now.

"About what? Why the hell would you want to talk to me?"

"Because you're throwing branches," Ambrose said calmly, trying to keep a warm, kind tone and look. He gave a simple gesture towards the trees where Karma had, quite literally, just picked up and thrown like five different branches with their power at the same time. "And you don't usually do that."

Karma bit their cheek hard and released their power, letting the branch they'd been holding drop to the ground with a soft thud.

"I got bored."

Ambrose looked at Karma disbelievingly, and, though he said nothing, the look alone was enough to send a spike of pain into Karma's gut.

"Fine, okay, I just... someone's watching us. I feel it." Great. Now they sounded like a crazy person.

"Okay, do you know where the feeling came from? When it started?" Karma looked at Ambrose in shock.

"Wait. You believe me?"

"Of course." Ambrose looked at Karma with an understanding gaze. He'd been worried he wouldn't be able to help, but if Karma was struggling with anxiety, well, Ambrose knew a thing or two about that. "Why would I not believe you, Karma? You're my friend. If you say something's wrong, I'm going to listen."

The skeptic stared, dark eyes wide. Friends? Since when? Had they missed something? When had Ambrose become their friend?

"I don't know. I just feel it."

Okay, they'd just play along for now then. Play along and pretend like this whole situation didn't absolutely kill them. Pretend like they weren't thinking of someone else and trying to keep themselves from curling up on the ground or throwing themselves Kos- Ambrose because they missed him so much-

Stop it, Karma. He's not him. This is Ambrose. Not Kotas. Kostas is gone. He's not coming back. Stop.

You know you're my best friend, right? You're always welcome to stop by at any time. I like having you around!

--

They stared ahead for a moment, eyebrows furrowing as they tried to comprehend everything flowing through their mind. Ben had been their best friend too, once upon a time, and that hadn’t stopped him from leaving. Being best friends with someone didn’t actually mean anything- Though, then again, Illon hadn’t ever had any friends until Ben, so really… Ben was the only person they could base it on. And if Esta was saying this, well, Esta didn’t like lying. But she was lying about how the group hadn’t argued. Which the group shouldn’t have had to do anyways because Amel was right.

--

Illon sighed, their shoulders slumping. They’d just agree. Nothing more, nothing less. There was no need to worry Esta. “Yeah… Don’t know why though.

--

No- Where did that come from? No, no, no. They weren’t supposed to- Back track. Play it off. Do something right for once. Just stop concerning Esta. “Oh, wow, did I just say that? Must’ve slipped. Did not mean it, nope. No way. We’re the duo of the century. You’re awesome and I’m… Well…” They choked up, their rant ending awkwardly as the bubble tightened enough to cause them to finish slower, quieter. Meekly. “…I’m… okay…

*~*~*~*

Awww, you think that of me? That's sweet! Plus, mountain lions are fucking adorable.

--

Salen chuckled lightly, smiling softly.

--

Well, I personally think that you'd be a dove, as they represent peace and kindness. However, a dolphin could also work, they represent trust, curiosity, wisdom, and loyalty. I think that fits you, wise girl.

Eni honestly looked a bit offended at the idea of another person being a bird too, but huffed and shrugged it off.

--

Okay, what about me?

Let's see... I think a squirrel suits you just fine, my friend.

Hey! Low blow.

Sorry, I had to. It was right there.

You really think so? Thank you!

--

I'm going to go speak to Karma, see you later.

--

Salen waved a small goodbye to Ambrose, giving him a respectful nod of her head.

--

Eni nodded, “Yeah, okay. An otter is definitely more fitting than a squirrel for Agnar. Though, I do say- Salen might be more of a honey badger representing patience, tenacity, cleverness, security, friendship, gratitude, and persistence. Which I think works all around for Salen.

--

Salen raised an eyebrow at Eni, “While that does fit, are we sure that you just don’t want me being a dove so that you can have the bird area for yourself?
