"I have my packmates." She was trying to reassure Ferox. "My siblings and mother especially. Everything will be fine." Laika dips her head,"Just. Keep doing what you're doing." She blinks at him,"If I don't show up one night, that means I've given birth or am close. I wish I could send a messanger." But none of her wolves would ever do it. If even one found out... Her wolves were too loyal to the law. Laika heaves herself to her paws,"I can make it." She replies, blinking affectionately at Ferox. "It's not a long walk." Well, for her at this moment it was, but she'd make it

Ferox nodded and looked down. He tried to take comfort in Laika's words, but it was impossible not to worry. Nothing either of them said would change that. All he could do was trust Laika and hope for the best. Ferox stood still, then nuzzled her lovingly and said, "If I don't hear from you for three nights, then I'll assume you've given birth. Laika hadn't missed many of their secret meetings; there could only be one reason she would miss them now, and that was the pups. Ferox licked Laika's muzzle. "Goodnight, Laika," he said softly. "I love you." Ferox nuzzled her once more, then began the walk back to his territory. He paused at the steam to wash off, then snuck back to camp without being noticed and went to his den, where he soon fell asleep, his fears echoing through his head and changing his dreams into frightening nightmares.

She knew her words did little to console her mate, how could they? This was an incredibly worrying situation. The birth of these pups could cause their deaths, and their pups deaths. They were taking a huge risk, but, it was something that they both were agreeing on. And despite it all, she loved her unborn pups and she wanted to keep them alive. Laika dips her head as she sways on her paws slightly,"Three nights." She echoes. She nuzzles Ferox back,"Goodnight. I love you too." She watches Ferox for a little before turning and starting off. The journey was slower then usual, but not by much. As usual she burned Ferox's scent off her pelt before entering camp. Sneaking back in where she pratically collapsed in her nest and curled up, falling asleep quickly.

The next morning, Ferox awoke feeling exhausted. His nightmares had made for a very light, un-restful sleep. Still, he got up and began organizing the morning patrols, sending out four groups to check the borders and hunt for the morning meal. Slate approached him, coming from the direction of his mate's grave. "Do you need me for anything, Alpha?" he asked dully. Ferox answered, "Could you sort out the morning patrols once they return? Slate nodded, then turned and went back the way he had come. Ferox watched him go, feeling anxious for his Beta. It had been a while since the attack, but Slate still hadn't seemed to recover from his mated death. Ferox didn't blame him; he'd be the same way if Laika died. Still, he hated to see Slate in so much pain.

Sleep came easy for the Alpha, well for a little, after she woke up the first time. The rest of the night, or early morning, she was tossing and turning and finally it was time to get up. So with a sigh, Laika heaves herself to her paws, trotting out of the den. She did her best to bring her head up and prick her ears up, hoping there was alertness in her eyes and not tiredness. Already the pack was waking and her Beta's were waiting by the rock. They still refused to even look over at the Alpha. With a shake of her head she trots over.
This time she doesn't jump up though, simply sitting beside her Beta's. As soon as the pack was gathered, patrols were being arranged and sent out. A patrol to the unclaimed lands and then some to the other borders. A few to hunt and then the rest were free to do what they wished until it was time for afternoon patrols. Laika goes to get up when a sharp pain shoots through her stomach. She winces, letting out a yelp. At once Ember was at her side,"What's wrong?" Laika does her best to shake her sister off,"It's nothing. Just moved funny." Ember ignores her sister, gently pressing her paw against her sister's stomach. She looks at the Alpha, stating.
"Your going into labor."

Soon, the morning patrols had returned, and Slate saw to that quickly and efficiently, then disappeared. Ferox called the pack together for the morning meal. He took his share once everyone had taken theirs, and he went to sit by Oak. "Hello, young Alpha," the Elder greeted. Ferox dipped his head respectfully. "Good morning, Elder," he said. "Do you mind if I eat with you?" Oak smiled and shook his head. "Of course not," he replied warmly. Ferox managed a small smile and began eating. The two ate in silence, and once Oak was done, he straightened up. "Is something bothering you, Ferox?" Oak asked kindly. Ferox gave a sigh. There was a lot bothering him. He was worried about Laika, their unborn pups, what would happen when they found out who the father was... Ferox settled on vagueness. "I'm just worried," he said softly. Oak tipped his head. "About what?" Ferox regarded him for a moment, then said, "Everything." Oak blinked and nodded understandingly. "I know the feeling well," he said softly. "I think there's a specific thing you're worried about, and it's making everything else more stressful." Ferox looked at Oak in surprise. The old wolf had been startlingly accurate with his assessment. Oak noticed Ferox's reaction and nodded. "What is it, Ferox? Does it have something to do with you sneaking out at night?" Ferox did his best not to look guilty, but Oak saw right through it. "Whats going on? Is there something going on between you and the wolf you're seeing?" Ferox looked surprised again, remembering that Oak still thought he and another pack member were sneaking out at night to visit secretly. Ferox shook his head. "It's fine," he assured Oak. "There's nothing wrong." Ferox stood and dipped his head. Oak nodded. "Well, I hope you two get things figured out," he said. Ferox gave his tail a weak wag. "Good day, Elder," he said, then he turned and went to find Garnet.

Laika groans, already this was painful. Ember was guiding the Alpha back to her den, barking out orders as wolves hurry towards the two. Seraphina was at their side at once, helping to support Laika as they duck into the den. "I need more moss! Get me some water! I also need a sturdy stick!" Wolves were dashing around trying to get everything that was needed. Because even thought they weren't happy were their Alpha, she was giving birth and every wolf loved the birth of new pups.
Laika practically collapses in her nest, and despite the pain, her mind was on Ferox. She wished he could be here and she wished she could tell him. Ember blinks at Laika,"Does the father not wish to be here during his pups birth?" Pain shot through Laika, both because of labor and the pain of having to lie. "No. He wishes to remain anonymous. Completely anonymous." Ember sighs,"Alright."
Moss was brought and was tucked around Laika, making the nest bigger and softer. Ember, of course, had to go through each piece to make sure there were no thorns. It would not do well to have thorns poking and stabbing new born pups. Ember then places a paw on Laika's stomach, yelling,"I need those sticks!" A few seconds later a snout appears, stuffing three sturdy sticks in.
"Thank you." Ember whips around grabbing one before moving to give it to Laika,"Bite on this." Seraphina was sitting by Laika's head, lapping at her ears, doing her best to soothe the writhing Alpha. "Ready, Laika?" Laika's jaws clamp down on the stick,"Mhmm." Ember crouches down,"And.... push."
Laika obeys and pain wracks her body, the stick strained under the pressure of Laika's teeth, but it held. "Good job! Your firstborn is a boy." Warmth filled Laika as she tried to move to see the pup as he was tucked against her belly. But before she could, pain exploded again. And it went like that until she had four little bundles of fur nestled against her belly. "Congratulations, Laika. Two boys and two girls."
And then a sound whipped through the air. The sound of an evil and deafening scream. Laika went stiff, what was that? Laika orders,"Get all the wolves back now! Get them on the perimeter of camp! Put the pups with the elders. Protect them!" Ember looks down at the pups,"And what about you?" Laika's leg moves to pull her pups closer,"I'll protect them." Seraphina snaps,"We'll move you into the elders den with us and the other pups."

The day was silent and uneventful. Ferox and Garnet sparred with one another until the trainee was warmed up, then she practiced combat with one of her siblings. As they fought, he judged her technique, pointing out errors and praising what she did right. He had learned from Slate that focusing only on what a trainee did wrong was the surest way to destroy their self-confidence, so he made sure to compliment her at least as much as he corrected her. Finally, Ferox called a stop. "That was well done, Garnet, you're definitely improving," he said, giving her a small smile. Garnet beamed, wagging her tail happily. "Thanks, Alpha, I can't-" Garnet cut herself off with a yelp as the sound echoed through the camp. Ferox whipped around, trying to identify the source of the unearthly scream that tore through the air, but he could not tell where it had come from. It seemed others had heard it as well. Ferox and Garnet hurried back to camp, where they found wolves looking around in confusion and fear. Ferox quickly found Oak. "Elder, what was that?!" he asked. Oak looked troubled, afraid even, not something Ferox had ever seen on Oak's face before. Oak shook his head. "I- I don't know," he said softly, looking up at the sky. Ferox felt icy claws of fear squeeze his heart, but he steeled himself and gave a quiet growl. "Bracken, take four wolves to the Ignis Lupi border," he barked. "Petra, take another four to the Akvo Lupi border. Slate, take five wolves and check on the border along the unclaimed lands. I want to know what that sound was!" The sudden sharpness of his tone seemed to snap the wolves out of their confusion, and they quickly went about doing as he ordered. Even Slate, who had been depressed and despondent since the death of his mate, moved with a new-found urgency. Once the patrols were sent out, Ferox found Oak again. "Elder, are you sure you don't have any clue what that was?" he asked. "It didn't seem... natural." Oak shook his head lightly. "I'm not sure how much I know," he said. "I'll consult with the other Elders, and we'll see if we can figure this out." Ferox nodded, and Oak retreated to his den. Ferox looked off toward the Ignis Lupi territory. Whatever that sound had been, he hoped Laika was alright...

Brigid was summoned in and with a pup in their mouths, the wolves exit the den. Laika follows her mother into the Elder's den where already mothers and pups were being moved inside. However, after Laika sets down her pup, she nuzzles them each before turning and exiting. Wolves were mingling in the clearing, panicked and worried. "Wolves!" They were panicking too much.
"Wolves!" The muttering starts to quiet and each wolf turns to their Alpha. "I don't know what that scream was. Do our Elders?" The elders had joined the pack in the clearing and all had confused looks on their face. Laika remains calm,"There is no telling if that scream was heard by all of the packs. But we must find out. Ignatius, take Helios and Cinder. Go to the Terra Lupi border. Khan, take Nova and Eyre, go to the Caeli Lupi border. Wait there until a patrol comes." The six named wolves dip their head and take off.
Laika turns to the others. "Mothers and pups will stay in the Elders den. Titan, Myth, Aiden, and Cole will help guard it. Healers will stay in the Elder's den as well. Everyone else, find a spot on the camp walls." She points her nose to the rock she used to address the pack during meetings, it would allow the pack onto the walls. "Be alert for everything. Do not be afraid to call the alarm. Better a false one then to be surprised." The wolves were too worried to argue and the pack moved into action at once.
The pups and mothers were already moved into the Elder's den. The elders and healers rush toward it, while the four named wolves follow. The rest of the pack stream to the rock then onto the wall. Laika turns her gaze towards the Terra Lupi territory briefly, she hoped Ferox was okay. Ducking her head, Laika follows the others into the Elders den. Curling up next to her newborn pups who were fast asleep.
The others were still worried and panicked, but it was quiet. All were waiting for the alarm to be called. Laika just wished someone knew what was happening. But all of the elders looked confused. There was no telling what that horrid scream was.
Ignatius bounds towards the Terra Lupi border, Helios and Cinder on his paws. All three were streaking for the border, only coming to a halt when they were mere inches away. They could only hope a patrol would come by soon.

Ferox spent the next hour or so trying to calm down the wolves remaining in the camp. A hunting patrol that had been sent out before the scream returned, and Ferox firmly ordered everyone to eat. Generally, none of the wolves had much of an appetite, but under his watchful eye, everyone had a good meal. They seemed to calm down a little after that, but wolves were still nervous, often glancing around them. Not a single wolf that Ferox had talked to could identify the source, though... Once the meal was complete, Ferox stationed gaurds around the perimeter of the camp, just as a precaution. Young ones and mothers were instructed to remain in the center of the camp, the most strategically safe position in the entire territory. He had strongly urged the Elders to stay in their den, but a couple of them had elected to stay outside to help out however they could. Ferox appreciated it; they were far better at calming the little ones down than he was. Bracken and his four wolves carefully checked along the Ignis Lupi border. All five of them were more jumpy than usual, twitching at the slightest sound or movement. Everything felt strangely silent. No birds sung, no insects chirped, the air was still, as though a storm was coming. Bracken suddenly caught a scent and froze, as did the rest of the patrol. It was a smoky scent, like that of the Ignis Lupi wolves... Bracken and his patrol crept forward until they spotted three Ignis Lupi wolves right at the edge of the border. Bracken relaxed slightly; they outnumbered the other patrol, they'd be fine if a fight broke our. "Over here!" he called, trotting toward them. "What are you doing so close to the border?"
