Caine ◇ He/Him ◇ Rouge Caine couldn't help but narrow his eyes at these questions. Why did he want to know so much about Caine? More importantly, why did Caine want to know more about him? He huffed, taking mental note as this wolf-dog looked him up and down. What exactly were his intentions? Was he planning to attack? Caine shook the thoughts from his head. Even if he was planning to hurt him, Caine had won many fights in his life. The scars scattered all across his body proved it. "Yeah, I have my own den," he said again in a grumble, "and no, I never exactly planned on crossing that stream. There was no point in it. Got enough empty space over here and I'm content with it stayin' that way."

Zephyr ✫ He/Him ✫ Wolf-Dog Zephyr keeps his gaze locked on Caine as he speaks. Zephyr sighs slowly, "alright" he responds with a curt nod. "Any chance you've got room for two? Im kind of stuck right now" he shuffles his paws awkwardly, he's never been in this situation or shown... weakness. This is incredibly embarrassing he whisper-snarls to himself. Gosh, you're not a pup anymore Zephyr you shouldn't be doing this. For god's sake, you were almost top rank in your pack! Zephyr curses himself, quickly glancing at his paws and urging them to stop their awkward movements. "I apologize if that was sudden, I just don't have the time to deal with this" he snarls, his tail flicking in annoyance. He looks up to the sky, the sun is quickly disappearing, I better hope and pray he says yes or he's in for some trouble. Zephyr bares his fangs, his muscles tensing again in anticipation.

Caine ◇ He/Him ◇ Rouge The wolf-dog tilted his head slightly to the side in confusion. What was this Zephyr dog trying to pull exactly? Did he want to trick Caine into letting him stay with him, so that while he was asleep he could kill him in cold blood? Although, it was getting a bit dark, and Caine really didn't care enough right now to think that deeply into it. "I suppose I have room for another," Caine said, pinning his ears and narrowing his eyes. "I hope you don't plan to try anything. And don't expect for me to provide meals for you, either. I'll let you stay but only because it's getting dark and believe it or not I have just a shred of sympathy in me." Caine stood up, turning around to the direction his den was located. "C'mon," he grumbled, tail swishing impatiently as he began walking quick-paced.

Zephyr ✫ He/Him ✫ Wolf-Dog Zephyr reluctantly follows Caine, his ears perked, alert. The further they walk, the more tense Zephyr becomes. His body reacts to every sound or movement, even a small misstep from Caine sends his muscles tensing and his teeth barring. Though he was the one to ask Caine for a place to stay, Zephyr is skeptical. "How far is it?" Zephyr asks, his eyes dancing around the dense underbrush, searching for danger that isint there. This is becoming slightly sketchy he thinks maybe it was dumb to ask a random dog for a place to stay.... What am I thinking, of course it was dumb! Zephyr sighs, deep and raspy. Well I have no choice now he shrugs, continuing to follow Caines fast paced paw steps.

Caine ◇ He/Him ◇ Rouge Caine sighed, a bit annoyed already by this wolf-dog he regretfully had decided to let stay with him in a flash of pity and sympathy. He swooshed his tail as they came to a stop, snout motioning to the left where his den lied."Not very far," he said in a sacastic remark, almost chuckling to himself. As they walked to the den, Caine's stomach growled - an irritating reminder of his chance at a meal that he had stupidly let slip from his grasp. Caine couldn't help but curse at himself for this stupidity. However, at the same time he understood that simply complaining about things wouldn't get him anywhere, so he decided he would try to do a bit of sunset hunting. He turned his head to Zephyr, eyes narrowed with both exhaustion and annoyance. "Well, come on then, now that you know where we'll be staying I suppose now we have reason to do some hunting." Zephyr ✫ He/Him ✫ Wolf-Dog Zephyr narrows his eyes, searching the area surrounding the den. "Hmm.." Zephyr clicks his claws on the ground, assessing the terrain. He gives a curt nod of approval. "Not too shabby" he shrugs. He then turns to follow Caine away from the den. Hunting does sound pretty nice, I can't believe I missed that chance earlier he sighs in annoyance, remembering the squirrel that could have been easy prey. After a few minutes of walking, Zephyr stops in his tracks, quickly dropping into a low crouch. He spots a vole, quietly scavenging amount the tree roots. Zephyr pins his ears and takes a silent sniff of the air, he quietly moves around the vole, assuring that his scent is downstream of it. He has the vole just where he wants it. Carefully, he crawls forwards, his eyes remain stuck on the vole. Just as he's about to pounce, the vole's ears prick up, and its tiny eyes find his. "Damn it!" he barks, jumping to his paws and springing after the little creature. Just as it's about to dive into a hole, Zephyr launches forwards and hooks it with his claw. It gives a high pitched squeak before he slams it into the ground, piercing his claw straight through its little body. "This is barely anything" he sighs, frustrated. "We'll need to keep hunting." Caine ◇ He/Him ◇ Rouge Caine nodded in agreement with the wolf-dog. Atleast he seems to be sensible, he thought to himself. Suddenly, what caught Caine's eye was a rabbit, sitting right in the middle of a forest clearing. Lowering himself into the lengthy grass, Caine stalked ever so slowly towards the rodent, his nose drawing its scent in. Eyes locked on the rabbit, this time he was careful and wise enough to step over any twigs that came in his way. With a swift and sudden movement, Caine launched himself from the ground and onto the rabbit, crushing it under his weight. He grabbed the prey with his jaws, teeth piercing it as only a small squeal escaped its lungs. Luckily, as if almost in his favor, this rabbit seemed plump and plentiful - he hadn't planned on sharing with Zephyr, but he didn't seem the harm in it. Just this once, the male thought to himself. He walked back over to Zephyr, the rabbit's plump, limp body dangling from Caine's jaws.

Zephyr ✫ He/Him ✫ Wolf-Dog "Good catch" Zephyr dips his head in a curt nod. His eyes glance at the large rabbit, then to his vole. Zephyr's expression twists into a look of disappointment. I can't believe this mutt caught more prey than me. He thinks with a annoyed grumble. "Should we bring our catch back to your den?" Zephyr offers, plasters a fake smile onto his face. Now that you've gotten this far you better not screw it up for yourself.... Zephyr meets Caine's eyes, awaiting a response. Edited at January 9, 2024 07:38 PM by Essence of the Wolf

Caine ◇ He/Him ◇ Rouge Caine nodded, dropping his prey to his paws to speak. "Yeah, let's head on back - It's getting pretty dark anyway," he remarked in a tired grumble. Picking his prey up, Caine began to pad back to his den, leaves and twigs crunching under his paws as they walked. The two of them returned to the den, the noise of crickets' chirps echoing through the night air. Caine padded inside the den, plopping down on a nest made with leaves and moss and various other materials. He let out an exhausted sigh as he dropped the rabbit at his front paws. It wasn't very lit up in the den, but moonlight sparkled through the entrance providing just a bit of light. He looked at Zephyr and his measly catch - strangely enough, he almost felt bad for him. Caine blinked slowly, fighting back sleep. "..If you need, you could probably have some of mine. Just sayin'. It's a pretty plump one.."

Zephyr ✫ He/Him ✫ Wolf-Dog Zephyr picks up his vole, gingerly holding it between his jaws. He follows Caine back to the den, crawling in after him and choosing a spot against the wall of the den, giving Caine his space. The overwhelming scent of Caine makes Zephyr's nose wrinkle as his whole body shakes with a loud sneeze. "Sorry" he mumbles, shaking his pelt and blinking to clear his vision. Zephyr drops his vole, his eyes rest on Caine. The moon's light shines through the den entrance, lighting up Caines coat. Zephyr notices the many scars scattered across his pelt. He must be tougher than I thought. I never realized he has this many scars... Zephyr looks up to meet Caines eyes as he offers Zephyr some prey. "Yes, thank you" he responds with a little nod. I've never had to ask for prey before he grumbles to himself, his coat burning with embarrassment. Zephyr finishes his vole with two quick bites. He licks his jowls, letting Caine eat his share while he picks up the rest of the animal and throws it out the den. Zephyr settles back into his spot as Caine eats.
