Laika stiffens as the wolf approaches closer to the border, until the wolf stops and he simply dips his head. Laika inclines her head,"Of course." Then surprise flickers in her eyes,"Your wolves?" An idea flickers in her head, though she tries to shut it down, but her curiosity got the better of her. "Has something happened to the previous Alpha?" Laika bites off the rest of her words, swishing her tail,"I'm sorry, I didn't mean to so bluntly ask that." Laika flicks an ear back behind her, in a non hostile way,"I assume you need to return to your pack, as do I." She glances over her shoulder, sighing, not really wanting to.
(No problem, mine is short as well)

Ferox turned around as the other wolf spoke, still tense, but her question surprised him. "He was old," Ferox said. "He died not too long ago, and for whatever reason, the elders decided to make the Alpha." Ferox stared at the Ignis Lupi wolf for a moment, then said, "Do not mistake my youth and inexperience for weakness," he warned. "Our pack is still strong. Report that to your Alpha when you return to your camp." Ferox knew that his enemies would assume that the pack was vulnerable becuase the old Alpha had died, and he needed to quell those rumors as quickly as possible.

Laika dips her head, the loss of an Alpha hurt, especially when the Alpha was well respected and very loved. Laika holds the Terra Lupi's gaze, even as he speaks. If a wolf could smile, Laika was smiling. "Considered the Ignis Lupi Alpha informed." Laika's own former Alpha had passed in a more tragic way then simply old age, and his passing had hit the pack hard. Laika holds the wolf's gaze, wondering if the wolf would say anything at all about Laika's new position. After all both were young and inexperienced, but yet both were now Alpha's. Laika hesitates before quietly asking,"Do you struggle being an Alpha?" Laika cursed herself silently at once, if the question didn't offend the wolf, it would probably reveal that Laika was not a confident leader and the Ignis pack was more vulnerable then seemed.

Ferox, who had been about to leave, stopped once more and stared at the wolf, giving her a strange look. Something about the way she had assured him that his message would get through sounded... odd. The realization hit him. This is the new Ignis Lupi Alpha, he thought. "You're the Ignis Lupi Alpha, aren't you?" he asked. She's young... just like you, he thought to himself. He heard her question, but didn't answer for a moment. He was struggling; the duties the Alpha were to carry out were stressful and tiring, and he was hardly able to keep up. He didn't even have a trainee, as most Alpha's did, and it was still difficult. He wouldn't tell this wolf any of that, though. He didn't tell an outright lie, but he didn't tell her everything. "I know my responsibilities, and I carry them out," he said stiffly.

Laika watches as the wolf starts to leave, then stops, turning back to stare at her. Laika dips her head,"Indeed I am." Then the wolf says nothing more, and for a moment Laika believed the wolf would say no more and simply leave. Then in a stiff tone the Terra Lupi Alpha responds. The words were very vague, but Laika understood, well at least she thought she did. Laika dips her head,"As all Alpha's should." Was her simple response, she meant no harm or offense by the words, in fact there wasn't really any kind of hidden message or tone in those words.

Ferox's gaze lingered on the she-wolf a little longer, and his head tilted curiously. "You seem a little young to be the Alpha..." he said. Then again, so was he. Ferox knew that his old Alpha had taken on the position at the age of six, twice Ferox's current age. The elders had told him that he was the youngest Alpha in the history of Terra Lupi. That information had not helped Ferox with the shock of having the position forced on him. Ferox held the she-wolf's gaze a little longer, then gave a sigh. "I suppose both our elders wanted fresh blood to take on the Alpha role," he said, his stern demeanor slipping a little.

Laika's ears pin back slightly as she fires back,"So are you." Then she forces herself to relax, her ears coming back up. That had stung... because it was true. She was the youngest wolf known to have taken the Alpha role, and Laika believed she was the youngest Alpha in even the other packs history as well after all she was only two. But Laika had passed all the requirements, she had trained a trainee who was now a Delta and even had another trainee. She was older than a year and a half, so she wasn't breaking any laws... But the young she wolf thought that out of all the wolves, she was not the best fit for Alpha. Her elders? They thought differently,"I suppose so." Her own gaze softening a bit as she dips her head.

Ferox watched the other wolf's expression change, and he realized that she didn't look like one of the intense-faced Ignis Lupi wolves he had grown up hearing about. She just looked like a regular wolf. "It's difficult, isn't it?" he asked quietly, to his own surprise. He looked at her for a moment longer, then sighed and sat down in the sand, putting his tail around his paws. "What's your name?" he asked.

Surprise runs through Laika at the question, she thought the wolf would have turned and left. "It is." There was a wolf in her pack, well more then one, who was not completely happy with Laika's rule, and challenged her over everything. Like, are you sure you want to send a patrol there? Or, why are you choosing them? They broke pack law. Among other things, and yet Laika held firm, and the Ancient Laws ruled over their complaints, and the elders had refused to chose another, their pick was Laika. Laika tips her head as the wolf sits down, before he asks her name. Laika hesitates briefly, before sitting down as well, fur swishing gently from the gentle night wind. "Laika. You?"

Ferox watched Laika, an empathetic expression on his face. He could understand the difficulty she was facing. His duties as the Alpha were many, and he always felt as though he was only just barely keeping up. He was grateful for the help of his Betas, but they shared their responsibility, and either way, everything fell upon him. Not only that, but he knew many of the wolves in the pack thought that he was too young and inexperienced. They never said anything out loud to him, but they whispered when they thought he couldn't hear. A large percentage of his pack didn't think he'd last a single year, and he knew that many of them would be glad to see him fall. "It's nice to meet you, Laika," he said when she told him her name. "I'm Ferox."
