Khal stayed as still as he could hopping the woman didn’t hear him, which was a stupid though. Anything within a fifty yard radius probably heard the loud sudden clank of metal on concrete. So instead he thought he would wait her out, which was his second mistake. As he stated pressed against the wall he tried to think how to get himself out of this, but his thought process was cut short by the woman’s gun in his face. He had been in this place before. An ocean away, a much more dangerous threat had held a much more dangerous gun to his face. The scar along his neck began to itch. As she spoke he studied her stance. She was confident and held the gun like she would take the shot, though Khal knew she could probably take her if he was fast enough he didn’t want to try, this was the first actual human he had seen in a month, even if she was trying to kill him. “Look I don’t mean harm, I didn’t realize anyone else was here, My name is Khalin Hefran, I lived here when the world was, well when it was normal” only after he stopped talking did he realize that he still had the bat in his right hand, Kaz had his nose in Khals palm, trying to calm him. But even as the dog did his job, he glared at the woman, his canine muscles bunched ready to launch himself into a fight, hackles raised. “Look I’ll set my bat down, and maybe we can talk this out, we don’t need to be killing each other, we’ve got enough monsters trying to do that for us” he turned his head away from her, to place his bat against the wall, revealing his scar.

Valentina Lopez . Her glare became more tense as he talked. She watched him put his bat down to signal he meant no harm. However his dog had other intentions. Her stance was still tense, gun pointed. She thought long and hard about it. He made a good point. Valentina hasn't seen many people around either. It could benefit her and she would have a higher chance of surviving. However, she's survived this long alone. Val sighed and lowered her gun, putting it back in its strap. She felt as if she was making a mistake. What if he was doing this just so he could kill her later? Val had a hard time trusting people since the last person she came across tried to kill her. Of course that person is gone now. . Her gaze sent on the man as she loosened up her stance. When he said his name, her eyes had widened. Oh no. This can't be. She thought. The man she held at gun point....was a former classmate. They were from this same town and everything. She hasn't seen him in years. He did look quite different now. "K..Khalin? It's me, Valentina Lopez." She said. "From school." Val added. She truly couldn't believe it was him. The guilt rose in her body as she realized she just held a former friend at gun point. "I can't believe it's you. What are you doing here?" She questioned. What are the odds she runs into someone she knew. Her trust still needed to build as she didn't know what exactly he was like now.

When she lowered her gun he took a deep breath and made a signal with his right hand. Kaz sat down and his hostile nature seemed to instantly disappear. Khalin kept his eye on the woman. He wasn't sure, even tho she had put up her weapon, that she would t try again to kill him. He watched as her emotions changed from angry to puzzled, to shock. At first he himself was puzzled at why she had gone through such a rollercoaster. Then he understood. Her voice and name brought back a nastalgic smile and he nodded his head "Wow!" He exclaimed. "I can't believe anyone is actually still here!" Khalin wasn't sure if he should hug her, shake her hand, or give her a high-five, she he just awkwardly stuffed his hands in his pockets. He studied her and mentally kicked himself for not recognizing her sooner. Although she looked older she still had some of the same features she had when they were younger. "I came back to see if my family was still here" he stopped and a distant look came from his eyes but a nudge from Kaz made him snap out of it. "What about you? You seem rougher and tougher than the last time we saw one another." That statement brought back another flood of images. Kids smiling on graduation day, excited to go out into the real world. Khalin wished they could go back to those days. He didn't want to ask but he felt like he needed to "is there-did anyone else make it? Your family? Any other of the twons folk?" He felt like he knew the answer, especially due to the town crawling with walkers. He really just needed it to be confirmed so that he would stop looking.

Valentina Lopez . As he spoke, the woman was still in shock. She couldn't believe it was him. Seeing him made her feel a little better about the situation they're in. "I was here with my family when the apocalypse started." She said. She thought back to when they were still in school. Everyone was so happy. Planning to stick together through adulthood. Valentina started missing that time. She had to admit she did change a lot since school. Not so much looks, but her personality. Even Khalin saw it. She was a delicate flower in school. Made friends with everybody. Had a good reputation. Always smiling. The apocalypse completely changed her. What she witnessed with her family changed her. Everything changed her. . She lifted her chin slightly to his question about her family. "I watched my parents get murdered by these asshole walkers." She said confidently as if it didn't affect her. "I was here with my siblings but we got separated. Haven't seen them since." Val shrugged. "But you know, things happen. I'm sure this has happened to many people." She said clutching her pocket that held the dagger her father gave her. That's just how Val was. She acted like certain things didn't bother her even when they were eating her up. Suddenly her attention shifted towards the canine. "Where'd you get this cutie?" She said nodding her head towards the dog. She couldn't tell if Khalin had found the dog or if he's always had him. Truthfully, she didn't remember if he had a dog. Valentina looked around frantically to make sure no walkers would sneak up on the two interacting.

Khalin s heart ached for her. He knew it was hard on anyone to lose a family member, let alone their whole family. She hadn't asked but he felt like sharing, just so she knew if she needed to, she could talk to him. "My parents were already walkers when I got back, and my sister had shot herself she she didn't have to become one" a lump swelled in his throat and he swallowed it. Shrugging his shoulders he acknowledged her comment. "I'm sure it has happened to a lot of people, but that doesn't make it hurt any less." He sighed then looked down at his dog. "this is Kasbec, he's my best friend, and my only friend up until about two minutes ago" Kasbecs tail stirred up dirt when his name was said. "We served together in the force. We retired together when we went through a pretty crazy experience. He's been by my side for three years" when she checked her shoulder he did the same unconsciously grabbing the bat in case any unwanted visitors strolled around. Khalin felt an overwhelming since of guilt come over him. He and his group of friends in high school had always vowed to go through life together. To never let anything or anyone separate or break their bonds, but when Khalin had enlisted in the military, he never told his friends where he was going, or that he was leaving at all. He just left them, and would never see any of them, besides Valentina again. trying to distract himself from the thoughts he shifted his feet. "we shouldn't stay out here very long, it's gonna be dark soon, if you'd like we can find a place for the night and catch up, or we can go a different way now, whatever works for you" it truly made his heart happy to see one of his old friends again. And he would hate to part with her so early. But in today's world, he wouldn't blame her for not wanting to spend a night with someone she hadn't seen or heard from in years.

Valentina Lopez . Thats where he was. The military. She thought to herself. Valentina only wished he had told her so she didn't assume he died or something. She was just glad he was here now. Worst timing, however. Val finally gets to see her friend, but in an apocalypse. She felt bad when he told the story of his family. Similar to hers. She realized that all they had were each other. She just hoped he wouldn't leave again. Valentina soon snapped back to reality when he mentioned it was going to be dark soon. That's when she had an idea. . "I know a place. I was just there actually. There's this house not far from here that I was hiding in. I barricaded the front door so we will have to go in through the window I think I left open. And we will probably have to check for walkers." She explained. Without hesitation, Val began heading that way, looking back to make sure Khalin was following her. She gave him a warm smile and walked towards the house. It was good to have her friend back. And for once, in years, Valentina had actually put on a genuine smile. She started thinking of the good times with their friend group. All the good memories. The chances of them all still being alive were super slim. Especially her best friend Angela. That woman wouldn't ever hurt a fly. It made Val tear up a little thinking about her as a walker. She quickly wiped her tear so that Khalin wouldn't see. . Val portrays herself as a woman who doesn't cry. And if she does, it's in private. Her best friend was the sweetest girl alive. But when they parted ways, she never heard from her again. That was the hardest part. Never hearing from a close friend. Val thought of the good times her and Angela had. The sleepovers. The drama talks. Every night Val cries herself to sleep, wishing things went back to normal. But now she finally realizes it won't. So she started saving the tears and became a fighter. A skilled one at that. She took part of the martial arts her father had taught her and she taught herself even better. Even if things scare her, she likes to believe they don't. That's why she was quick to pull a gun on Khalin, which she still regrets. And should apologize for it. "Oh and, uh, sorry for pulling a gun on you. Instinct." She said with a slight chuckle afterwards.

Khalin listened to her words carefully. He then nodded and followed. He held his bat in his right hand, and let his other rest on his pistol. Even as a right handed shooter, and swinger, the military had made Khalin skilled with both. In fact the military had changed a lot about him. He used to be a good grades kid who would only have fun on Friday nights kind of guy. He never got into trouble. Never picked fights, and he never said a cruel word or did a cruel deed in his.. past life, as he called it. Had Val been a stranger, after they talked it out he probably would've double crossed her and possibly even killed her. Which scared him. He never knew which side of himself was going to show. As he followed her he noticed it was later than he thought. They had about ten minutes of daylight left then it would start to get tricky. Her words pulled him from his brain. "honestly, I'd rather you do that than just let some rando walk up to you, at least you're careful" although there were cons to being with another person, there were more pros. Like for instance, having someone to watch your back, with that thought he checked over his shoulder. And Khal actually had someone to talk to, not just his dog who looked at him like he was crazy. As if summoning him Kaz nudged his leg roughly. Khal knew what that meant. Walkers. He didn't risk saying anything to Val, he just quickly reached forward and lightly grabbed the area just a over her elbow. He tried to do it in a manner that wouldn't make her get upset or even pull a gun on him, again, but it was slightly hard, especially at the end of the world. So he pressed a finger to his lips and painted an apologetic gaze onto his face the waited, as the sound of scuffing feet grew closer.

Valentina Lopez . As Val walked along the path, she could see the house in the distance. "See that's-" Her words were instantly cut off when she felt a grab on her elbow. Quickly she grabbed her machete and turned around, pointing it, only to find it was Khalin. She put it back strapped on her back and sighed. "Don't do that to-" Her words were cut again when she noticed he was acting strange. He gave her a signal to be quiet. Only one reason someone would do that. Walkers. Val instantly crouched and grabbed her machete again, hoping there wasn't too many. She listened closely to the direction of the sounds of the walkers. Once she heard where they were coming from, she nodded in the direction and slowly crept down the path. . She tightly gripped her machete as she examined around her. And low and behold. Walkers. Luckily for them, it wasn't a huge hord. But there were still quite a few. She looked back at Khalin, signaling him to take on the walkers on the other side while Val would handle the ones in front of them. Quickly, she ran towards the walkers and began slicing them, one by one. However, one came from behind her and knocked her to the ground. She frantically turned around and started kicking the walker and holding its head back so it's teeth were far away from her. Val then stuck her machete straight through it's head so the body fell limp on top of her. . Val never realized how heavy these things were until one was on top of her. She used all her strength and pushed it off. Still having a few to fight off. Val looked over at Khalin to make sure he was safe before she went back to slicing the creatures. After that brawl with the one walker, she made sure to check her back every now and then.

Khalin hadn't meant the scare her and flinched lightly when she had pulled the machete on him, for good reason. When she had started forward he did too, he stepped where she stepped in an attempt to be more quiet as a bigger human. Kaz crept silently behind them, knowing his warning had found its way into the real world. when Val signaled for him to take the walkers on the side. He sprang into action. The walkers were headed for Val because that was the first human they saw. He wouldn't let them get to her. He swung his bat hard, completely deaden king one of the walkers. He continued on swinging and pivoting. He wasn't very fast she he had to use his strength to his advantage. He risked a glance Ofer at Val to see if she was alright. There was a Walker collapsed on top of her. For a moment he thought it was still alive and a new stream of adrenaline surged through him, he wanted to rush over and help her, but a grab on the arm made him quickly freak out and swing his bat at the creature. He hit its shoulder breaking its arm clean off, blood spraying onto his bare arm. He swung again this time for the head. Khalin continued to swing and take out the gruesome beings. When he was done he frantically looked for Kaz. The dog was on top of a dumpster, snapping at a Walker trying to reach him. The dog rarely ever backed, some of his military training, so now he just snarled and snapped at the air when the Walker was close. Quickly Khalin tan over and took care of the creature. He reached his arms out like a hug for the canine and Kaz launched himself into it. Khal set him down then turned to Val to see if she needed any help, and frankly it looked like she could take a whole hoard if she needed to.

Valentina Lopez . Slicing her last walker, blood splattered all down the front of her shirt. She coughed in disgust and looked over to Khalin. She saw he was to go save Kaz. Val waited until he came back over. When he did she examined his body, making sure he was alright. She let out a huge exhale and began to walk in the direction of the house again, now that those walkers have been taken care of. Again, the house came into her sight. It was yellow and not too big but it was good for hiding and still had a lot of essentials inside. . As she walked up to the back of the house, the window was open, just as she left it. Val looked back at Khalin and nodded towards the window. Luckily for them, the window wasn't too high of the ground. Val reached her leg inside, then her other, then pulled her body completely inside, landing softly on her feet. I'm the time that she's been gone, who knows what could've entered the house. Without waiting for the slow poke to cling through the window, Val did another search. Her pistol pointed at every corner she heard, and carefully listening. . Valentine let out a sigh of relief, putting her pistol away. "No one here." She said to herself while making her way to one of the rooms and sitting on the bed. She stared at the ground and wondered what would've happened if that walker on top of her had been successful with his attempted kill. She shook her head and snapped out of it. Val said herself she can't see her dying. Now she needs to live up to it.
