Ekon was alert but less so than he should've been. That had been a stupid mistake on his part and he realized later that he could've prevented the whole thing if he hadn't been preoccupied with the orphans. He knew immediately that the assassins or assassin had the advantage. They had a long ranged weapon and were not in Ekon's general sight. That didn't mean too much though when Ekon knew the exact direction the arrow's tip had come from. Ekon immediately put him and Zaine in front of the princess. Blocking her from view, quickly saying "stay low on Melion. Do not move." He was simple with his instructions and utterly calm in manner. The bands on his arms fused together and created a small dagger that went spiraling for the area where the arrow had come from. Ekon's instructions to it had been simple, find the person and incapacitate them. From there Ekon would look for others while maintaining a close guard on Princess Anasuri. His other armbands and earrings fused together to make a sword which was in his hand in seconds.

Anasuri pressed a hand against the wound on her shoulder. Luckily, it just barely scraped the surface, thanks to Melion. Her skin knit together almost seamlessly as her magic flowed through her fingertips. She did as Ekon asked, staying near Melion's neck and preparing to bolt.
The person who shot the arrow soon found themselves with a dagger in their shoulder that would draw back the string, keeping them from shooting. Their two companions, who were large and fierce some brutes, with powerful magic, quickly thought up a plan. The bowman, though, set off with their own magic - which made the earth quake and jump (within a certain distance).

Zaine tossed his head and snorted, pawing at the ground, ready to flee or attack at a moment's notice. Ekon held him steady, his eyes a piercing gold in color. As the ground began to shake, Ekon rolled his eyes, annoyed with this magic. He summoned the dagger back, which ripped itself violently out of the person's shoulder and returning to Ekon. Hopefully the bowman would bleed out, Ekon didn't tell Anasuri to move though. He'd been through this whole assassination thing enough times to know that there were most likely other people out there. They would most likely ambush the two. Though Ekon was expecting anything at that point. He just needed to keep Anasuri safe.

why have i not responded to this sooner
The bowman dropped to the ground with a silent scream, pressing a hand against their shoulder, even as the blood flowed strong. The other two heard the thunk as their companion hit the floor, and quietly retrieved him before running off. The group knew that this attempt wouldn't work, but now they knew the guards powers. Now they could plan...

Ekon stayed alert, his sword still steady in his hands. After a few minutes of silence, and Zaine calming down, Ekon finally spoke. His voice quiet yet completely steady. "It seems they have left, either way, be on guard. We should get going now." Ekon turned to look at Anasuri, doing his best to not show his worry.

Anasuri gnawed on her lower lip, but sat up, and straightened her shoulders, "Yes. This will need to be reported as well." The air was stifling, and she felt trapped, but she still managed a soft smile, her head tilting slightly to the side, "Thank you, Ekon, for protecting me."

Ekon nodded, although he didn't smile, his features seemed a little lighter. "It's not a problem my lady, it's my job." He shrugged before allowing his sword to melt down into his bracelets and piercings. Zaine had calmed down considerably and was just pawing in agitation. He obviously wanted to get out of there.

The two set off for the castle, going along the main road this time. They passed some carriages and people walking who recognized Anasuri, and she smiled and waved. It was as if nothing had happened, based on they way she was acting. After Ekon protecting her, though, Anasuri trusted he could defend her. She didn't trust that he wouldn't attempt to kill her, but he would at least defend from someone else.

Anasuri's suspicions were correct, she was Ekon's kill and his alone. Although he wouldn't allow a single soul to even look at her oddly, he would take her life when the time called for it. Ekon knew his job and would do it. Plus, he looked at the tattoo on his arm, he had other people that were way more important to him than some princess.

When the two arrived at the palace, and away from public view, Anasuri dropped her mask of cheerfulness. A serious, slightly shaken, look took its place, "Well," She said under her breath, "Thank you, again, Ekon. Although this should be reported, lets not, for the meantime. It will only cause unnecessary suspicions, and the possible injuring of innocents." Anasuri did not want to be the cause of anyone's harm - including those who were trying to kill her. The thought made her uncomfortable, "Did your strike into the woods hit the archer?"
