The two finished another game of chess, and moved on, gazing at the high slopes ceiling of the halls. They knew the dinner hour was approaching, but they didn't really want to go, now after Tristan had told Adina what had happened. Now Adina was frightened of Ajax, and thought Echo was the nastiest thing ever. They finally gave in, and walked to the dining hall, but sat at the far side, in a bright corner, only because they hated the dark.

Echo and Ajax walked into the dining hall, walking to the darker side and sitting down there. Neither the demons nor the angels were talking, and you could but the tension in the air with a knife. That was until the doors of the complex burst open and the Head Demon and Angel walked in with their parents. "Why are you sitting on separate sides? And with that of your own kind?" Khaos asked, narrowing his eyes. "You know how this is supposed to go."

Tristan could barely hold Maritzas gaze, but he knew that Adina couldn't stand up to her mother. The gorgeous older female angel stormed over, the frustration evident on her face. "What is it? I know you don't like it, but.." she trailed off helplessly.

Echo just glared at Ajax's father, while Ajax stayed seated. Khaos narrowed his eyes at his son, before gripping his shoulder with his clawed hand, their indigo eyes clashing in a silent war of unsaid, venomous words. Finally, Ajax stood up and walked stiffly over to the angels.

Adina quickly stood, and ran from the room. Tristan tensed as the demon walked over, and also stood. After requesting to talk to the head angel, the two walked out of the room together to have a more private conversation.

Ajax spread his arms as he stood on the angel's side. "This what you want, Father?!" He snarled. Khaos sighed. Echo couldn't take it anymore. She lunged forward, but Khaos step sided and grabbed Echo, holding her down. He used the shadows to form a muzzle, and then put it on Echo. "This will teach you to talk back." He growled, shoving her back in her chair. Ajax started forward, but he realized that he couldn't move. He was stuck in the angel's side, while Echo was muzzled in the demon's side.

Tristan walked with Maritza, begging her to change the areangement, but she firmly resisted, saying it would help both sides. He argued, saying it was making them miserable. The head angel said she would talk to the council, but it was highly unlikely that anything would change.

Echo snarled behind the muzzle, but she could neither move nor take it off. Her body was frozen, just like Ajax's. Khaos shook his head sadly. "I don't like this either." He growled, glancing at the demons. "You think I want to see my son, and the girl he loves to get married to angels? I may be the Head Demon, but I was out-ruled by the council. I couldn't do anything to stop this." He snapped his fingers together and the muzzle on Echo's face dissipated, and they were released from their frozen states.

Maritza paused at the door back into the dining hall. "When you see Adina, please tell her I'm sorry," the woman begged.
She gave Tristan a quick, reassuring hug, and turned to the demons, her face neutral.
"Are we all ready?"

Echo stood back up from where she had fallen on the floor, brushing herself off. Hanging her head, she nodded. Her energy was drained, and she knew fighting anymore would be a waste. All she could do was accept her situation. But Ajax was burning with fury. It was as if the two demons had swapped personalities.
