frequently, yes. sometimes insecurities translate into people treating others poorly. and sometimes they're just trying to get a reaction from you.
complimenting them instead of reacting(even if they hurt your feelings) really seems to be effective.
arguments don't last long when only one person is arguing

Aalis Soile
Light Dragon | New Dragon | Female | Mentions: Kaia, K'issuk
Indirectly Mentions: Sevo, Vedmak, Beollan, Other Dragons, Humans

The familiar wailing sound had Aalis turning her head, eyes alight (literally) with her happiness from seeing her friend. As K'issuk bobbed her head and clasped her arms, Aalis' own head snaked forward, gently bumping her muzzle into that of her companion in a familiar, affectionate manner.

"Indeed it has, my friend," Aalis replied, before her attention quickly switched to the human that clambered off of K'issuk's back. The dragoness lowered her head to peer curiously at the man, listening as K'issuk introduced him. He grinned up at the two dragons, before extending his hand in an extremely human-like greeting. Aalis couldn't stop her light laugh as she extended her own paw, shaking his head gently despite her appendage being significantly bigger than his.

"It's a pleasure to meet you," the young man said, bowing his head slightly.

"Oh, the pleasure is all mine. I've wanted to meet the lifelong companion of K'issuk since the day she left," Aalis replied, lowering her head to peer at him. "I assume you are both well-suited to each other, floating in the water together," she said as she lifted her head and turned it back to K'issuk.

"Oh, yes, I would love to let you host me, my friend," the light dragoness agreed, bobbing her head in a nodding fashion. "We must take our humans back to my home some day, though. I must report that the Northern Lights miss you dearly, and grieve your absence," Aalis lifted a paw to place it on her chest, bowing her head for a moment, before movement from the human boy caught her attention.

"I'm sorry to leave the both of you," he said, smiling apologetically. "But I've gotta run to the Squad Leader and other Mentor. K'issuk, you can stay and talk as much as you want, I'll call for you if anything pops up, let me know if anything happens with you too," and with that, the human boy turned and took off at a jog, weaving easily between the crowd of humans.

Aalis tracked his movement for a few moments, before other movement caught her eye. She moved her head to watch as a strange, wingless dragon walked on its hind legs, and pointed eerily into the crowd. Beside it was another dragon, whisps of its horrid scent catching her nose, scales shades of grey and green. Perhaps the most unnerving thing, though, was the apparent lack of eyes in the second dragon. The knowledge, however, did not quite make Aalis shy away. Rather, the instinctual jolt it sent down her spine raised her interest in the pair.

"There seems to be a lot of interesting dragons here today," she said to K'issuk, voice soft as she turned her head back towards her friend. As soon as the words left her maw, a loud roar caught her attention, and a truly goliath fire dragon moved into the valley. Aalis squinted, and lifted her body up onto her hind legs, leaning back on her tail, for a few moments before she gently dropped back down.

"Interesting dragons indeed," she murmured. "My friend, would you like to join me in finding my human? Or does duty call for you to make sure no dragon starts any fights?" Aalis asked lightly, putting no pressure on K'issuk to choose either option.

Kaia Seelen
Mentor | Male | Mentions: Nicodemus, Ilithyia, Desmodus
Indirectly Mentions: K'issuk, Aalis, Anatolious, Lara [NPC]

Kaia moved easily through the crowd, keeping one eye on the shifting of the human bodies as if they were a tide, the other on the dragons that had come to the valley. Dragons and humans, as intelligent as both species were, were extremely unpredictable, and the last thing he wanted was to be crushed while heading to the cliff he'd spotted Ilithyia perched upon.

Nico was likely to be there, he reasoned, and the pair would know where Lara, their other mentor, would be. He moved swiftly, knowing that he and K'issuk were.. somewhat late in their proper arrival, and he wanted to make something of a good appearance, even as his hair was still dripping wet from getting splashed by his dragon, his clothes and skin drying quicker thanks to K'issuk fanning them with her wings.

A short hike and a bit of a climb later, Kaia pulled himself up onto the cliff, grinning warmly at the Squad Leader pair. He faultered slightly when he saw Desmodus, a furred, primal-type dragon, paired with Anatolious. While it wasn't entirely unusual for pairs to be a little split, such as he and K'issuk were currently, it was odd for Desmodus to be here while Anatolious was presumably at the academy, a good few hours away on dragon-back.

"Sorry for the late arrival," Kaia said after his brief pause, shaking his head like a wet dog. "K'issuk and I were in the lake," he said as a way to explain both his wet appearance, and their tardiness. "We've got a light dragon this year, her names Aalis Soile, she's old friends with K'issuk," Kaia said, his grin strengthening with both pride and adoration at the mention of his dragon.

"Any sign of Lara yet?" He asked, running a hand through his hair and tilting his head. It was odd for Lara to be late, Kaia figured that he and K'issuk would be the last to arrive, even with the water dragons insistence of arriving on time. "And is Anatolious here?" He added, jerking his chin in Desmodus' direction, furrowing his eyebrows in mild confusion.

Ahura De Mevius
Male | 18 | New Rider

Mentions: Callahan Beck [ind.], Skylar [dir.] , Medi - NPC, Kavik & Mariana [ind. / dir. ]

That absolute b-

The male let out annoyed huff before he could even finish his deplorable thought. He wouldn't let his anger make him use such uncouth words - even in his mind. But there were many, many words he wanted to used right now that would have his mother fainting in horror and either his father washing his mouth out with soap or laughing like a proud madman. But he crossed his arms and narrowed his eyes at the boy who dared to not even acknowledge his presence - to say he was hurt and upset was an understatement. He just about had the mind to storm over to the stupid boy and give him a good talking to ; never mind if he would get yelled at or a cold reception, at least that would be something compared to the growing divide between them. Didn't he care? Hopefully, this was just a big misunderstanding -'because, frankly, he didn't know what he would do without the other boy. His fists were balled, and trembling by his shade - while his lips were slightly parted, as if he wanted to do just yell to get the others attention. Would that be so wrong? Was he being selfish? Was it so wrong to want to know what happened to their friendship ; they used to be so close, and he wished Callahan would just tell him - why, why he just up and left without a single letter and what was the start of them drifting apart. And that's he felt the salty taste of a tear on his lips, and he dumbfounded; simply took his hand and wiped his eyes and then stared at the tears as if they were foreign. Great, he was crying over a boy again.

And that's when the call of his name snapped him out of his thoughts. And he quickly wiped the rest of his tears away, though those that were more observant would definitely notice the streaks left on his cheeks. And that's when he caught sight of a charming face with bouncing golden curls most women would be envious of. And the glowing complexion of the young woman put him at ease. At seeing her smile - one genuine and pure, rivaling even the sun in brightness ; he couldn't help but smile himself. And he met the young woman halfway and he playfully nudged her.

"Miss Odin," he said with a playfully formal tone, yet he was grinning through his teeth at seeing her, and he gave a good natured laugh - he couldn't be formal with her, "Hello, to you too Skylar - the living personification of sunshine, herself, did you bring the brilliant rays of light with you today? Or does the Sun just favor you, after all she's letting you bask in her light." His soft, yet mellifluous voice spoke, and he gave a dramatic sigh, "it was so droll without you here, now my mood is better." And he leaned on her dramatically with a good natured smile. Most would think the two were a couple, by the way he rested his head on top her soft curls ; because of the three inch height advantage that he had over her - but anyone who knew them, knew that these two were only friends. He was going to talk more when a loud and pompous voice flooded his ears, and his mood soured again.

"Now my mood is ruined," he said with a slight twinge of annoyance in his voice, and he looked to find the source of annoyance and his practically glowed at the sight of his victim - good, he needed to release this anger somehow, and this pompous idiot was his chosen victim.

"Watch this." He whispered in Skylar's ear, and he moved away from her. His strides regal and calculated - a smile plastered on his face, and a shimmer in his eyes as he made his way over to the commotion. And he could hear the grating voice grow louder, and he was showing off some horrendous sword that he had made for this day.

"Young Lord Medi de' Antavyn Storvah," Ahura called, his voice practically singing the name in a wickedly honied tone, "it's such a pleasure to see you here, might I ask - what possesses you to have such a raucous tone of voice during such a sacred ceremony. Should you not fear a dragon gobbling you up because you're displeasing them with that ear splitting tone of yours." And he felt his grin getting wider as he heard the male gasp in disbelief and glare at him, and so Ahura put on his best innocent face, "have I misspoken? Did I offend you sir ?" He said, though the last title was thrown out with a slight undertone of mocking.

"No, you did not My Lord," came the response through gritted teeth, and he could see the anger of the enbony haired male growing by the second, but then in his eyes shon malice, "my apologies, I seem to forget - you're frail like your mother, I wish her health would get better soon. Hopefully, her affliction doesn't curse you." His tone clearly faking sympathy and this caused an anger to blaze within Ahura. He gave a quiet chuckle, well played. And then he got a bright idea.

"Oh? So you're gossiping about my mother, the Honorable Marchioness Of Ederia?" He said stating his mother's full station, and he narrowed his eyes at the young man. "Is your father not a dishonored Baron? One who's own family has cast him aside for his bad habit of gambling his money?" he questioned, innocently and he gave a soft sigh, "such manners, and to someone who ranks above you in social status - but it can't be helped, it seems your mother's influence has gotten to you, simply because she likes money and anyone who can give it her her." He said with a sweet smile, and he could see the sweat beginning to form on his face at every word he spoke, "after all, the nobles do talk, and I heard the most scandalous rumor ; is true that your mother has be seen receiving quite the romantic gifts from that newly widowed Viscount? Or was it the Duke giving her love letters? No, no, maybe," and he quickly snapped his fingers as if he had really been thinking, "The Earl," he said triumphantly, bobbing his head - clearly pleased with himself, and he examined the pale face of the male before innocently batting his eyes sayng, "oh, you know how rumors fly about at the whims of the ladies, but are they really rumors. It would be such a scandal if they proved true."

And he watched in satisfaction as Medi's eye twitched and he opened and closed his mouth - liking quite like a fish out of water, but all that he settled for was a uncouth growl and not before storming off. And Ahura gave a fake look of shock and looked around as if he hadn't just caused the situation.

"Did I say something wrong?" He said to no one in particular, but he looked at the hooded girl that he knew as Mariana Cross, and her unnamed companion. And he gave a simple shrug, "Eh, maybe he was in a bad mood - it's good to see you Lady Cross." He said approaching the two with a polite smile.

Desmodus Draculae

Male Primal Dragon || Rider: Anatolious Rosenberg || M: (Dir) Illithyia. Nicodemus. (Dir/Ind) Anatolious. (Ind) K'issuk Ran.

~

Desmodus Draculae surveyed the valley, his crimson eyes striped due to how bright the sun was. No matter how much he squinted, the sun always found a way to get in his eyes. It really hurt after the hours of having to ignore it, but he didn't know how much longer he could tolerate it. The pain felt like his eyes were being slowly singed by a burning flame, and heat happened to be one of his weaknesses. Sure, a nice sunbath every once in a while for like a half hour was pleasant, sitting in the sun for over three hours was painful and unpleasant. Surprisingly, Illithyia didn't seem to be bothered by the burning sun at all.

Suddenly, Anatolious' voice rang in his head, causing him to snort in annoyance. "You didn't know? You-" Before he said something rude to his rider, he cut himself off. Then, he inhaled deeply, sucking in a bunch of air before exhaling, helping him calm down his rage. "I'm already at the ceremony, but I'll come pick you up after I'm done talking to Illithyia. Have the saddle ready if you don't want to be carried the whole way there, and believe me, watching the ground below you when you're being carried by someone else isn't very fun. And no, I can get my own food." Then, he turned his attention back to Illithyia, who had begun talking.

Desmodus made an amused snort at what Illithyia said, since he knew it was probably true. Those two seemed like best buddies after just a little while of training together. He wished he could feel as safe around Anatolious as Kaia and K'issuk did each other, but after what humans did to him, he could never fully forgive their kind. Even thinking about it, after fifty-two years, it still was saddening. He shook the thoughts away, turning his gaze back to Illithyia, who was looking at Nicodemus with a playful look.

Desmodus' gaze turned towards the crowd. No one seemed to be eaten yet, which was a great sign. A great sign indeed. Maybe everyone knew not to eat the riders, which certainly wasn't the case when him and Anatolious first bonded. He remembered one dragon from their ceremony that almost ate one rider, but was told off by their mentors at that time. The thought still made his teeth bare in an amused grin, and his ears flatten against his head. That day was the day the most change in his life happened to him. Some part of him missed his old life, but another part of him found his new life better.

A grumble escaped his jaws, with an exhausted yawn afterwards. His eyes and fur was incinerating at this point, and it was becoming really painful. His fur was starting to stick up, and his teeth gritted in an attempt to slightly ease the pain. There was really no shade anywhere in the plains, not shade that he could fit under at least. "I hate the sun." He moaned with a loud grunt afterwards. "How are you so resistant to it?" His tone indicated that he was complaining like he normally does about the sun. He missed his lovely den, especially how nice and cold it was in there.

Desmodus' gaze followed Illithyia's to the disgusting dragon again, which did cause him a bit of fear again. Maybe it's an ability he has. "That thing is disgusting, right? I swear if I have to train him, I'm going home." There was a bit of a joking tone in his voice, but another part of him wasn't actually joking about that. It seemed that Nicodemus noticed Illithyia's fear, and he had begun to gently pat her. His gaze turned to the human, his eyes narrowed as he studied him a bit. He remembered the human from a while ago, but it has been quite a while since he's seen him.

That's when Desmodus remembered- he was supposed to pick Anatolious up! "Alright, I gotta go somewhere. but I'll be back soon. Watch to make sure no one gets eaten while I'm gone?" His tone was laced with irritation and exhaustion as he spread his wings out, preparing himself to fly. Then, he lept off the edge, flapping his wings aggressively to propell himself further up in the air. "See you when I get back." He was not about to tell them that he had to go get his own rider, because that would be embarrassing. He might never forget it if someone did find out, so it was best if he kept it secret. He began to fly as fast as he possibly could towards Anatolious Rosenberg. "I'm coming now, Anatolious! You better have everything ready." His wings flapped awkwardly as he tried to use the breeze to force himself to fly faster. His wings were already tired from the flying before, and the flying now wasn't helping his poor tired self either.

Desmodus's leaf almost fell out of his fur, but he shoved it back in before it could fly away. He didn't want to lose his wonderful style, especially since he was going to Anatolious now. He wanted to see his rider's reaction though, especially since he was normally so lazy to the point where he'd leave his fur knotted and tangled because he didn't want to move to comb it. It would be nice if someone could comb it for him- like a personal servant. Then he'd get his food delivered to him without having to even get up. The thought was great, but he knew that he was just the same as any other dragon, and that he didn't deserve any special treatment like that. He wasn't royalty, or disabled, he was just another ordinary dragon.

Desmodus' head swiveled a bit so he could look back at the ceremony, which was quite a distance away from where he was. He could only hope that no one gets eaten because he had to go get his incompetent human. If someone does get eaten, then I can have another excuse to bite Anatolious in half. His wings flapped swiftly as he began to near the forest, just excited to no longer have this pain. Sure, his fur might get messy again, but it was worth it. Maybe if I ask him nicely, Anatolious might help me get it all out. He would definitely appreciate if he had help getting all the sticks out, since those sticks can be an annoyance on his thick skin. Anatolious could probably get them out really easy with his hands, since they aren't as big as mine. So yeah- ooh I'll make a pun when I get to him, maybe that'll encourage him to help me out.

Desmodus' large frame burst into the forest as he aggressively flapped his wings. The trees rustled everywhere and his large wings snapped the branches, but he didn't care. The forest soothed the burning pain in his eyes and on his pelt from the nice shadow it casted upon him. Honestly, he'd prefer a dirty pelt than burning eyes and burning skin. The burning feeling wasn't very pleasant in his opinion. The shadows were his wonderful refuge from his constant pain. Without them, he'd probably be unable to live properly because of the pain. That thought did bother him slightly.

Desmodus let out a long, gutteral hissing gurgle sound at the sight of a deer herd. While it wasn't unusual to see a deer herd, it wasn't common either, especially not in this part of the forest. There was even a human he could see crouching behind the trees in fear, but it looked like a little girl. After the years of spending time with Anatolious, he lost the desire for human flesh. Though he'd still love to see all humans suffer, he wasn't going to eat a little child that's all by herself.

Desmodus suddenly felt his body leave the shade, and the familiar tingle the sun made on his skin. A loud screech came from his jaws, echoing through the valley before him. Two large hills proudly stood right there, but like someone took there claw and sliced them in half, creating this helpful valley in between that acted like a nice pathway for those who cannot fly over the huge hills. He decided it was best to go between them for the one extra minute of time so he could get Anatolious, which he didn't want to make him miss the ceremony. On his wings, he was only about a forty-five minutes away when he was flying relaxed, but on foot, he'd probably take up to three hours total. As the dragon flew between the hills, an uneasy feeling spread through his spine. He didn't know why, but for some reason this time just made him feel really uneasy. So the dragon sped up his flight speed, trying to get out as fast as possible. These were thick hills though, so it would take a while to fly through.

"I'm almost there. Once I get through these big hills, it should only take me about ten more minutes. Are you ready yet?" Right after Desmodus said that, he felt the uneasy feeling evaporate from his spine as he left the valley. He didn't understand why it made him feel that way this time, but he wasn't going to stay to find out. He was more busy just flying over this thick forest, that even managed to get on top of the hills. Sure, the hills could be walked over easily since they slope very smoothly, but for the tree's seeds to reach the top? That's difficult.

As he flew over the forest, he could see it slowly getting thinner, indicating he was nearby. He'd flown around this place so many times in his life, that he remembered the pattern. Immediately he turned to the section in the forest that was thicker, and the trees stuck noticeably further up, creating a bulged spot in the trees. Found it. He began to swiftly fly over, his wingbeats loud, and a screech came from his jaws so Anatolious knows that he's there. He definitely didn't use his wings to create as much sound as possible. Reaching his paws out, he landed on top of a big and sturdy building, that effortlessly held his weight on top on it. "I'm here." Then, he jumped down, creating a loud thump, even on the grass.

Ilithyia

Fire Dragon | Female | Squad Leader's Dragon | Mentions: (directly) Nico, Desmodus, Kaia

Ilithyia felt her rider lean against her, trying to offer some comfort in her fiery state. She snorted a plume of smoke playfully in his face, appreciating the comfort. She understood that she might be - is - overreacting, but that was the nature of fire dragons, known for their wild temperament and the occasional flair for the dramatic.

"Something is wrong with that dragon!" she declared emphatically, her eyes narrowing as she continued to watch the unfolding scene. "I'm not scared, I am greatly disturbed." Her tone lightened, taking on a teasing edge, as she observed the Dark dragon being joined by a Psyche dragon - one walking on two legs. "So peculiar," she huffed before finally settling down, though her gaze remained fixed on the strange duo.

Her vibrant eyes, though still displaying hints of distrust, now held a glimmer of curiosity as well. Ilithyia's fascination with the unusual sight was undeniable. Perhaps, as Nico had suggested, that dragon was harmless. It was at this moment that the Psyche dragon pointed into the crowd, a creepy smile playing on his lips, which sent shivers down Ilithyia's spine. It seemed that, in the realm of the bizarre, the eyeless dragon had some stiff competition.

She turned back towards Nico, feeling his confusion and concern through their connection when he saw the Primal dragon without his brother. "I'm not sure," she replied, her tone softer now. "He arrived without Anatolious. I spotted him while flying earlier today." Her words conveyed the lingering sense of uncertainty that hung in the air. Ilithyia's instincts were sharp, and she had already sensed the absence of Anatolious in the valley. Desmodus, on the other hand, appeared unperturbed by his rider’s absence.

Ilithyia's rumbling hum carried a playful undertone when she heard Desmodus complain about the sun. "Well, I guess being a living fireball has its advantages," she quipped. She turned her head to look back at the dynamic duo, "He's something.." she paused, and then added turning back to Desmodus, "Oh, don't you worry, I'll make sure they are both in your group. I'm sure you three will be the best of buddies by the end of it all."

Before she could inquire where his rider was, Desmodus abruptly said his goodbyes. Ilithyia couldn't hide her confusion as she watched him take off. She then turned to Nico, "You don’t think he forgot your brother?" Her voice was laced with humor at the possibility. Then, a dripping wet Kaia appeared and Ilithyia let out a purring sound in greeting. She had already pieced together that the two had likely been playing in the lake. She was glad they had the morning together.

Her head tilted in curiosity at the mention of a Light dragon. It was a rare occurrence to encounter one, and Ilithyia couldn't help but be fascinated by the diversity of dragons that had gathered for this event. This pleased her, it allowed the students to have a rich learning experience. The presence of dragons from various backgrounds and with a wide range of abilities would undoubtedly provide the students with valuable insights and opportunities for growth.

At the mention of Lara's tardiness, who was known for her punctuality, raised some concerns. Ilithyia had grown accustomed to Lara always being on time, and her absence was noticeable.

Male - 210 Years - New Dragon [Ice] - Sedna Nurul Seelen
M - Sevo [Ind], Medi [Ind / Dir], Sedna [Dir]

This place is too green. Hyoga growled a little, looking up at dismay towards the sun before quickly averting his gaze before he was blinded. It's too sunny too. The sun would, at this rate, melt his protective scale layering. Then what? He already felt sweaty and gross, and above all the ice dragon wished for the chance to cool off once again in the blizzards his icy paradise offered regularly. He missed the snow and frigid temperatures, how the light fluffy snow would create such a divine cushion while he stalked upon prey and watched the moon overheard. If one had never tried taking off and landing on a frozen over lake, it was quite fun to feel himself slide for a while before eventually coming to a stop. But alas, the pull he felt tugging at his soul was strong and getting stronger. It irked him. It's getting too bright... And maybe, just maybe Hyoga would be getting a craving for chicken if the birds wouldn't shut up anytime soon. How hard would it be for someone to sneeze and make a wildfire? Hyoga mused, looking over his shoulder to the forest in silent contemplation, tilting his head ever so slightly. Nevermind. The ice dragon had had very rare and far between encounters with both fire dragons and fire itself so he had no judgment to base any disdain on, but the tales told between others of his class had said it was a destructive but beautiful force that danced to the cadence of the wind. An elder had said they lost a sibling to the fire before, while others had spoken of it being hot enough to briefly change colors. Quite a peculiar phenomenon, if you asked him. Fire was hot though, that wasn't very hard to deduce, and with heat came sweating. Terrible terrible sweating he was not in any mood for. A faint cloud of ice left his maw as he exhaled before turning his gaze back towards the crowd. The dragon next to him was certainly peculiar. Darkly scaled, the scent of death and decay easy for even the simplest of creatures to know to stay away from, and the fact that they had no eyes. Wait.

Sweet mother of snowballs what the fuck what the fuck what the fuck- oh Mac and cheese and the stars above he didn't have eyes. They were gone, leaving gaping holes of death and void behind to cluelessly navigate the world in their stead. He was blind and he had no eyes. What the fuck. A part of Hyoga felt a bit of outrage. What or who did that to them if anyone at all? Were they still out there or had they met their demise some way or another? Another felt fear. But mostly, he had to look away from them before he puked up his guts. The sheer aura was just… intolerable to him. His wings had started to feel achy, his feet slowly getting consumed by the grass below him and vision honing in on the shape of the other, black edges causing the dark dragon to be the sole focus. Hyoga quickly shook himself off, dragging his tail agitatedly against the ground and leaving disturbed dirt in its path, some of which clung annoyingly to his scales. No. Nope. Don't focus on that. He wanted to meet his rider, however terrible that would eventually end up being. A lifetime bound to someone short. He sighed shakily in his mind, taking a deep breath to psyche himself up. Hopefully they don't get all wishy washy and nosy on my business. Maybe I'll eat them and call it an accident. Hyoga grumbled, finally standing and approaching the crowd of gathered individuals with a barely contained expression of disdain. His whip-thin tail and large wings were kept close to him. Very close. No way would a human be trusted to fucking touch him when he felt so vulnerable, else he sit on them by "accident" and take enjoyment seeing others weep or roll his eyes as they scatter in panic. The daring of people confused him. Were they just stupid or stupidly brave? Clearly they had some sense because they were still an existing species on this planet, but then again he was sure if all the dragons in the world could get along and decide to turn against the weird creatures, wiping them extinct wouldn't be an issue. No violent thoughts. Stop it. He had to reprimand himself at least a little bit, however much the thought amused him.

Finally, Hyoga stood a few paces away from the crowd, jaw opening just enough to let some cold mist trickle from his jaw in silent warning not to try anything violent against him. Noisy. Clumsy. Inefficient. Naive. A young human with curly black hair was looking at him weirdly from where they stood within the crowd, a shiny sword held in their grasp as they eyed him up and down with what Hyoga was able to recognize as eventual disdain. Towards him. The ice dragon had to resist a snarl his way. Clearly the human not only expected to get paired, but also expected to get paired with something "rarer" and less "common" than the likes of him. Prick. He'd be a good snack if he ever got hungry. A few of the humans looked at him eagerly or with curiosity as he tried to weave through the crowd without directly touching anything, Hyoga looking at all of them with nothing more than a brief glance before moving on. The cloud of icy mist that always seemed to coat and follow the male made parting the mass easier, as few wanted to get a taste of the sudden frigid temperature or a thin layer of frost on whatever they were wearing. The ice dragon paused at least once to try and get a feel of his bond. Where the fuck are you. He hissed in his mind sourly, whipping only the bare tip of his tail to prevent accidentally taking someone out.

He knew he couldn't communicate telepathically yet, so the sour grumble would be to deaf ears, yet the Ice dragon expressed his impatience anyways. Few had made their moves to join and try to find their riders, while other dragons and people got acquainted with one another or were both leaving and coming in. Peculiar. Hyoga stopped for a moment, the disgusting sweaty feeling he was getting from the sun momentarily forgotten as there was a tug at his chest that had gotten stronger. With narrowed eyes he scanned the crowd until one particular human being caught his attention. The striking green eyes they had was what caught his attention first, followed by how he looked none too pleased to be here. Hyoga bristled a little as he took a few steps towards them, making the sensation stronger. That was his rider. His bonded human. Now he was in a dilemma. Did he simply approach them, or wait for a bit to see if they would even notice? Could humans sense the bond as strong as dragons, or did they all simply come here on a whim? He hiked his wings up, tail lashing momentarily behind him before he finally sighed. He couldn't delay the inevitable, as much as he hated to admit it. The ice dragon started walking towards the human, wanting to see if they'd notice his approach.

Vincentina “Vinney” Killilea

New Rider | Female | 18 | Mentions: none dir (open)

It was, to Vinney’s surprise, not her sisters who had held her up that morning. In fact - on that note - none of them had even bothered to waste a moment on her that dawn, in what usually would have usually been a futile attempt to comb out her bushy hair into something presentable for her upcoming event. Well... it was also true that the eldest of them had firmly stated the night before that letting her run off in nice tidy braids only to get eaten by a dragon (presumably due to her blabbering mouth) would make any attempts to make her look like less of a disaster a definite misuse of their oh so important time. But even so, she didn’t wholeheartedly despise her sisters’ attentive natures from time to time, even as she multitasked complaining and mocking them as they did so in one breathe And, as she had argued inbetween ramming her breakfast down her throat, if she were to get eaten surely they’d want to have a fond memory of bonding with her to look back on?

Even the youngest of the four, Charlotte, had agreed that trying to get Vin’s hair sorted in the twenty minutes before the other girls’ all important monthly shopping trip would be too much of a hassle. “Besides, you’ll spend most of the time bitching about something or the other.” Although stated much more eloquently. While Vinney wouldn't hesitate to agree (in her mind, and maybe out loud if she felt like it later) , she couldn't help but demote her favourite sister down to second place for her hurtful words. Darling Charlie would have some work cut out for her to get back into Vin's favour, but for now her second eldest sister had found her place on top.

It wasn’t her parents that held her up either. They’d spent enough time berating her and boring her with countless lectures throughout the past week, that by the end of the final argument the night before she could go to the ceremony, they had almost seemed to run out of steam. Almost, of course, being the key word: if Vincentina’s dear mother were ever to run out of steam, then she must be on her death bed or worse. Vin’s dad however had given up halfway through the night beforehand, in a futile attempt to get her to stop talking - but the poor man had to listen anyway, to Vin and her mother's restless squabbling for another few hours before Mrs Killilea finally have in before the sunset.

No, the only idiot still truly holding her back that morning was one half of her good-for-nothing set of twin brothers. The poor brat had been looking miserable for the past week, his eyes turning a tearing, near-pathetic blue every time he even thought about his failed dragon ceremony. It was fair enough to be a little bit frustrated that his brother had successfully got into the school thing and him not, but really? Vin had observed him staring wistfully at the sky and only mess around with his friends some of the time: making sure to look solem and thoroughly depressed whenever a pitying adult looked his way. She'd seen them spoiling him with sweets and other childish treats too, putting a stickenly looking grin on his face.

Honestly his dramatics only made Vin laugh. Poor kid, she thought, he doesn’t know his luck. Certainly their brother made it sound like dragon riding is the most incredible thing in the world, but he had always been prone to boasting; Vinney never made a habit of trusting his word, especially when it (to everyone’s suprise) involved dragons. That didn't mean she didn't like the sound of that whole dragon-rider-academy business, but her idea for the trip had changed since she had first asked to go a few years ago; what has once been her own massive impossible dream had been passed down to her brothers and had long ceased to exist in her own mind.

Her brother's main argument for her not going was mainly that because he didn't plan to ever go again ("because of the shame," Vinney would mock, earning a less than playful whack from him in the process) she could not go - lest Vin somehow, in her final eligible year of the choosing get picked to become a dragon rider. Aside from the probability of that happening being stupidly low, she wasn't planning on getting close enough for a dragon to pick her anyway. Seeing them from a far enough distance would be enough to satisfy some remaining glimmer of a worn out child's dream - if only her brother would let her go to the damn place!

But it had all worked out in the end. Her brother had managed to get ahold of a horse (not as impressive as a dragon, Vin noted, but probably cuter) and convinced their father to give him proper, professional sword fighting lessons (lords would only know how they'd afford that) all in exchange for letting Vinney leave for the Valley. It probably would not have been such a big deal had the two of them not got caught in a skirmish - a two way mocking spree - the week before. Vinney, as the obvious winner, had refused to retract her brilliantly phrased arguement which had offended her opponent into holding a bit of a grudge. Thankfully, as the Killilea siblings knew, a grudge could be paid off.

There was one more thing her brother had asked Vincentina earnestly at the door though, which was unsurprisingly to not get herself a dragon. She had paused, looking thoughtful as she leant against the doorframe, glancing at her brother's arm across the open front door. Claiming in a playful tone that would be impossible to promise, Vinney whisked herself out of the house and made her way straight to the Valley - even running at some points to get there faster. By some miracle though, she wasn't as insanely late as she thought.

Vinney inhaled the clean air of the valley, holding her breath for a moment as it danced around her lungs before she released it with a satisfied huff. Her eyes followed the arcs weaves of dragons as they flew lazily through the clouds high upwards, their colours mesmerising but also resembling those little light splotches you get when you rub your eyes too hard...Or perhaps she was just staring at the sun by this point, bright in the chalky blue of the sky; she covered her eyes with her hands for a moment, blinking away the colours and glancing around her. With no one she knew - or trusted well enough to blabber to without being stabbed in the gut (a common threat/mostly joke from the adults back home) she felt a little... bored.

Vinney spoke aloud, more out of habit than to anyone in particular. "Well then, made it, now what?"

Skylar

New Rider | Female | Mentions: (directly) Ahura, Mariana, Kavik. (Indirectly) Medi (NPC)

Skylar, with a mischievous twinkle in her eye, responded to his playful comments, "Well, someone's in a poetic mood today, aren't they? I suppose I did bring a little extra sunshine with me, but it's nothing compared to the warmth of your presence." She laughed along with him, enjoying the banter. Oh, how she had missed her dear friend. The two had such a strong friendship, she considered him family at this point.

Before she could ask for an update on his life, the intrusion of the loud and arrogant voice disrupted their moment. Skylar's expression turned from amusement to annoyance. She turned her attention toward the source of the disturbance, her sunny disposition momentarily overshadowed by the unwelcome interruption.

She laughed softly as Ahura began his reign of terror on the boy. Skylar watched Ahura's performance with a mixture of amusemen, knowing he was enjoying ever minute of this - as was she. She couldn't help but repress a smile at his deft use of words to turn the tables on the obnoxious young lord. As Medi finally stormed off, Skylar couldn't hide her grin anymore.

She leaned in closer to Ahura and whispered with a teasing glint in her eyes, "Ahura, you truly have a gift for putting arrogant nobles in their place. I almost feel sorry for the poor soul." Her laughter danced in the air as she watched the young lord retreat in a mixture of embarrassment and anger. "I'm starting to think you missed your calling as a court jester."

When Ahura turned his attention to the hooded girl, Lady Cross, and her male companion, Skylar followed suit. It was the first time she realized the two were standing near them. From the way Ahura spoke to the hooded girl, Skylar wondered how often she and Ahura might have crossed paths at court. With a warm smile and a friendly wave, Skylar introduced herself to the two, “Hi, I’m Skylar.”

Nicodemus Brooks
Human | Male | Squad Leader | Mentions: Ilithiya, Kaia, Desmodus, and More [Lazy]

A soft snort could be heard from Nicodemus as he listened to Ilithiya speak about the.. odd.. pair of dragons below. There was something about the sightless dragon that seemed to have a similar effect on those around him, save for the other odd dragon. It seemed most were giving him a wide berth, and he had to wonder if it was some sort of passive ability. It also caught his attention that, despite the direct sun, the dragon didn't have a shadow... How odd.

Pursing his lips, he patted Thiya's neck and motioned with his head, "I wonder if he is a dark dragon, he has no shadow," he pointed out to the dragoness, knowing very few types of dragons that could control their own shadow. This combined with his unnatural appearance had him leaning towards a Dark Dragon. "Perhaps you should go introduce yourself, Ilithiya. If he cannot see, he might need assistance finding his rider, who, if everyone is reacting as you, might be too uncomfortable to approach him," he looked up at her with a devlish smile, challenging her slightly to see if she would forgo her discomfort just to prove something.

His attention shifted to Kaia when he reached them and he nodded a brief greeting. "It's fine, we don't really have anything specific to do until after they'd been chosen. It might behoove of us, though, to go down and try pushing the students further into the valley, force them to be closer to the dragons so they more hesitant ones can find their riders," he calmly offered, his arms returning to their comfortable place crossed over his chest.

He frowned a bit as Desmodus took his leave, only for both Ilithya and Kaia to speak of him and Anatolious. "I'm not sure," he stated aloud, answering both. "It's possible Anatolious is doing something that doesn't require Desmodus so the dragon is out and about today," he tried to reason, but Ana was his younger brother, and even as a half brother he didn't like the idea of him being without the protection of the Primal Dragon.

Nicodemus shifted his weight and frowned further, if it were possible, his brow knitting when he contemplated Lara not being there yet. Naturally she should have beaten all of them there, the young woman was always punctual, almost ridiculously so. She had been one of the first to arrive on the day she had been chosen. Her dragon, Brordis, a Wind dragon of mild temperment, was no better, he never allowed Lara to be late for anything either. "Perhaps they got called away on something this morning? Brordis is one of the fastest dragons I know, so if they needed a messanger, it might have been important to pull her away for it," his offered explanation was a sound one, but even he doubted it. There were other dragons and riders more experienced that could run a message that had done so before. Even still, the inner working of the Dragon Rider leadership often did things that didn't always make sense to him at first.

"If she isn't here by the time the Pairs are all chosen, I'll find out where she is. For now, though, let's just focus on whats in front of us. If Lara isn't here, it's for good reason," he finally conceded, but there was a faint hint of worry in his steel grey eyes.

Mariana Cross
Human | Female | New Rider | Mentions: Kavik, Ahura, Skylar, Rhyhor, Medi [NPC]

A soft chuckle, low in tone bubbled from the young woman and she dipped her head in mock apology. "My apologies, Kavik, I forget you have such better taste than to eat oatmeal." She cocked her head and leaned one hip slightly against the boulder Kavik sat upon. Being around a familiar face allowed her to relax some, and she angled her face to look up at him, sun glinting in her electric eyes.

"Oh? You don't already have adoring fans, Mister Forger? And here I thought you'd have the ladies, and some of the gents, lining up outside your door just waiting to be swooned from their feet," she chided softly, purposely misinterpreting what he had said. However, her attention was swiftly swept to the side when the vocals of a high born confrontation reached her. Ahura, a young man of high status she was familiar with, stood opposite of the young Lord Medi, the two seemingly at odds with one another.

Truthfully, Mari paid little mind to what was said, caring little for how Medi felt, and knowing Ahura was capable of handling himself. Focusing back on Kavik, full lips parted to speak, only to hear her honorific used to the side, and she hissed softly and playfully swatted at Ahura in response. "Shush," she half heartedly scolded, though anyone who knew her could tell she was not offended or annoyed.

It was about then when a young woman accompanied Ahura over to the growing group. She looked like the epitome of ray of sunshine, blonde locks framing an attractive face that was home to a pair of blue eyes that looked like they held more depth than the ocean. She nodded gently in greeting, and introduced herself afterwards. "Hello. Im Mariana, this is Kavik," she motioned with her hand to young man on the rock.

Deciding the cat was out of the bag, she reached up and lowered her head, no longer obscuring her face from the prying eyes of her peers. Seeing her there was unusual, as her father had refused to allow her to attend prior. Turning so she could answer Kavik she offered a solemn smile and shrugged. "Father never lets me attend anything that isn't pre-approved by him, so I decided to go on my own today and do what I wanted. I've always wanted to come to this event, and I've heard marvelous thing about it, so I decided to come. I had to sneak away to do it, and my father will certainly have my head when he finds out it," her words ended on a half-hearted note. She knew her father would be furious if he knew she was here, but seeing all the dragon was certainly worth it.

Speaking of dragons, her attention was caught by a large, angry looking beast as he traveled in their direction. For a brief second she pitied whoever his rider might be, as the formidable creature looked less than pleased to be there. Instinct told her to retreat from such an angry looking creature, but something inside her held her still, her artic gaze locked on the stormy dragon. Despite his aggressive presence, she couldn't help but think whoever he chose was lucky to have such a partner.
