Hartley Russel Barn| Rider | 15 | Male | M: Mircea

Hartley Russel Barn was currently outside in a little cart pulled by a horse that looked like it knew that it was too handsome for such demeaning work. The driver didn’t seem to notice the animal’s sour expression, that is, one as sour as a horse can make. Although the driver introduced himself as Mr. McLee, they decided that a good chauffeur name was Antonio and called him by it. So far the man did not show any signs of approval or disapproval. Antonio was a professional hand that they hired with saved money. Well, partial saved money. Twenty-three percent was a generous, unknown donation from their parents. Right, ‘they’ is plural. Hart wasn’t riding alone. Beside him was his cousin, Mircea. They were close and Hart considered him more of a brother than his actual biological brother.

After a few bumps and a couple turns, the horse-and-cart ride wasn’t as interesting. Bored and knowing that his cousin could always talk to Antonio, Hart gave Cea an apologetic look and pulled out a book from his bulging bag. By the rectangular shape, one could only assume that other books were stuffed inside. From the ride on, it was all theories, equations, geometric sketches, and a fictional mystery book.

———

When they were only a few minutes away from their destination, Hart was hidden away behind a thin book. It contained drawings of the stars and copies of mathematical equations. Astrology and astronomy were the new things going on in every scientist’s mind and Hart considered himself a scientist. After all, he dabbled a bit in the field. His main curiosity was the answer to what made humans, and other alive things, tick. However, he had not found a solution to his question. He hadn’t even started on an experiment for it, mainly because he wasn’t sure on how he would test his several hypotheses for it. The thought of it overwhelmed him and recently he found himself retreating into other subjects because of it. That’s how he got hooked on astrology and astronomy. The current book he was reading was about Ptolemy’s works in both fields. Sure, it was ancient knowledge, but it was new news to him. Apparently the earth was at the center of the universe. This book promoted the idea that the sun, moon, and planets revolved around the earth. He recognized this idea from another book about Aristotle’s work. It was a curious thought and it made sense. After all, they saw the sun stroll across the sky each day, and the moon seemed transfixed around them, too. The sources seemed legit, as both of them were well-known names in science community.

However, Hart was aware that famous did not mean correct, so he was currently keeping records about the moon. The sun would be too difficult to draw. Hart was a firm believer that drawings were just as important as the words when taking notes. He flipped the page where there were signs and symbols of what seemed like algebra. It all looked like chicken scratch to him. He hadn’t gotten to extensively learn algebra yet. He was just beginning the course and so far things made sense. This did not. What did sin stand for? At least he was sure that it didn’t mean the religious immoral act of someone. Or maybe it did, he second-guessed himself. After all, people were all about thinking and morals back then. He wasn’t sure and decided that he’d look through his algebra book and search for the troubling three-lettered word. Rats. He had left that one back in his room.

The day was absolutely beautiful, the clear skies, the perfect temperature and humidity. It was as if the dragons blessed the weather. Could they do that? He shut his eyes tightly in concentration. He was trying to remember the information from his more dragon-nerd days. No, they could not control the weather. Just the temperature of the environments they inflict their abilities upon.

He reopened his eyes. Oh wow. We're were already here. He recognized the spot from a drawing that he found in a book. It matched the picture almost exactly. The grass, the mountains, the woods, even the lake. From one look, he made up his mind that he was not going to go near that lake. It was bottomless. Of course, he tried to discredit the absurd notion, it can’t possibly be bottomless because that is, well, impossible. After a brief pause, his mind started up again. I wonder how many water dragons can fit in that lake. He decided to revert his thoughts to something similar to the subject, but more…educational? He felt a jolt from the cart and Mircea had already jumped off calling back an insult behind him. This brought Hart out of the deep thinking that he had been in from almost the beginning of their ride.

“I’ll gonna draw on my face!” He screamed after Mircea, his curly hair bouncing in a taunting way.

Hart wouldn’t actually draw on himself. What if he was chosen and had a chalk mustache and unibrow? That would be embarrassing. Instead, he undid the neat braid that Cea had carefully fishtailed into his hair during their ride. Then he flipped his hair around so that it would look untidy. It was the most he was willing to do. Not that he actually believed that Cea would disown him, but because he didn’t want to look like a fool if he did get picked. His tailored-to-fit suit was a bit too nice. It would be difficult to crinkle up now, but he could wear the jacket in an absurd way. He decided to tie the sleeves together around his throat as if it was a cape. That should do it.

“Thank you, Antonio.” He spoke to the driver as he heaved his bag out of the cart. “I’ll see you later!”

He did not get a response, so he turned towards the horse and whispered to it, “you really are too pretty for this job.”

The animal smugly shook its head and Hart turned around wondering if horses could understand what people were telling them. After all, dragons could.

⸻「 Valine 」⸻

Female || Earth Dragon || 106 Years || Mentions: Riders { ind. }

Down in the valley, along the grass plains, hidden underneath a great evergreen, a beast lie.

Flopped onto it's side, its stomach heaved upwards, and downwards. All in a small, smooth rhythm. Everytime it's stomach would rise, the inhalation of air could be barely heard, but as it fell, air was exhaled, deep and long. It escaped from the creature's nostrils, faint grey smoke nearly visible slowly escaping out from the armored airways.

What lied beneath the old Evergreen, was nontheless but an Earth Dragon.

Her dark green scales would darken underneath the shade, nearly shifting her body into a solid black, but once she opened her eyes, they shown bright and powerful. A darker shade of Lime Green~ one of the more beautiful eye colors that could exist in this world. In her opinion anyways. Her eyes opened slowly, fluttering a small bit as she slowly woke herself up. Taking in a deep breath or two, letting it go dramatically, blowing grass off from its roots underneath her jaw. A soft growl emanated from deep within her lungs, not aggressively.. more of a soft wake-up groan.

Legs stretching out wide, the dragon opened its jaw, her tongue curling back as she yawned, exposing her morning breath. It was longer than usual, but no biggie, as it was over at some point. Smacking her tongue against her lips, she pushed herself upwards, sitting donwards on her haunches. She glanced in the direction of moving dragons, only to be greeted with the smell of humans. But not any humans.. riders.

Already? But I haven't even had breakfast yet.

Snorting, the Earth Dragon lifted herself up onto her legs, leaning forward, then backwards, stretching her sleeping muscles. Shaking her head, her tail swayng back and forth in doing so, the dragon opened her jaws once more, letting out an what sounded as an exasperated yawn. It was not.. it was simply.. an aggressive yawn.

The dragon didn't bother to clean herself up, as she knew she looked fine as she did the day before, and the day before that.

Walking out from the protection of the sun, Valine took a step out into the rising sun's light, her true colors becoming trully visible. Her dark green scales moved in motion as her muscles were put to work, hoisting her towars the overlook of the Valley.

Unlike other dragon species, Valine's species didnt necessarily have.. wings. More like, frills or- small wings that could do nothing but glide and direct. Which was no big deal, even if she dreamt of being able to fly anywhere.. regardless of her fear of heights. Ironic, right? A dragon, afraid of heights. Psh. To be fair, Valine isn't afraid of heights as in cliffsides, the top of village houses, etc. etc... what she is afraid is being up in the clouds, where you can't see anything below you but fog and water.

Making her way to the new group of Riders, Valine had a growing ache to follow.. something. Instinct? A rider. Her instinct, her soul was telling her that her rider was here, among these Riders. But which one?

Much too lazy to look specifically, Valine walked on the outskirts of this.. gathering. Searching closely, and cautiously.

Dawn | F | Air Dragon | 111 | M: Riders (ind.) Open

Not quite out of sight but not noticeable at first glance was a large oak tree. The oak tree rested in the center of a small forest. Atop the sturdy oak’s branches lay a small dragon, its chest slowly rising and falling. Large wings too large for the branches of this tree dropped down from either side of the creature. The dragon looked peaceful in its sleep, a sleep maybe too peaceful, a sleep bound to be disturbed.

Leaves rustled above and the small crack of a branch had the dragons’ eyes wide within a second. The small dragon didn't look alarmed, only slightly annoyed to be awoken by such a small sound at that. Rising to her feet the flicker of annoyance the dragon had was replaced with confusion.

How did I get here again? Oh wait that's right..

Something had called the dragon here, an instinct perhaps. This valley was where she was supposed to be, At least that's the feeling Dawn had. She had arrived sometime last night. Exhausted from all the flying, and the heat of the previous day, Dawn had chosen not to look around and to go straight to sleep.

The darn heat, ugh heat messes everything up.

Fortunately for Dawn there was a light breeze, making the weather feel nice. Giving a final yawn Dawn lifted off into the air and rose above the treeline. Once in the air Dawn felt really at home, closing her eyes she could just imagine soaring over the entire area. Of course she wouldn't though, finding out why she was here was more important.

Once Dawn had opened her eyes she noticed a large group of humans down below. At once she realized, or remembered why she was here and what this was all about.

The choosing ceremony.. How could I have forgotten?

Part of Dawn was excited to find her rider, the other part wanted nothing to do with this ceremony. Freedom was something Dawn enjoyed, flying alone or with others, just flying in general or whenever she felt like it, was something Dawn was worried she might have to give up.

Pfft as if- I'm worrying for no reason at all.

Rolling her eyes Dawn flew lower scanning the crowd for her rider. “Well there she is..” Approaching her would be no problem for Dawn, she was excited to meet the rider.

Not yet, I'll just linger somewhere a while longer.

Sunlight bounced off the sage tips of her ivory spikes as Dawn dived down towards a tall tree with flimsy looking branches. Landing on top of the tree it started to shake and most of the leaves fell to the ground. “Whoops.. Well who’s going to care..” Dawn perched on the tree and gazed down observing all the humans below, sensing their excitement and nerves. It hadn't occurred to her before but the thought popped into Dawn’s head.

I look quite odd perched atop this tree, don't I?

Kavik Forger || 18 || Rider || M: Cernunnos (Stalking), Dragons and Riders (Ind)

The young man lurked in the shadows of the clearing's outskirts, muscular arms foldest across his chest. Light brown, nearly amber eyes surveyed the scene in front of him; dragons were landing, or appearing somehow, and seeking out their riders. They were all met with a distasteful grimace from the male. He had not had any intentions of being where he currently was.

Alas, a fallen tree across his normal route for deliveries had forced him to come here. Here, of all places, on the day of the ceremony itself. If it hadn't been torturous enough for Kavik to hear ravings about dragons nonstop for the last nearly two decades of his life, now he had to live it. The unsold tools, weapons, and jewelry pieces still in his satchel sat beside him as he looked for a discreet way out. Dragons had begun stalking the perimeters; he could barely see past their massive forms.

One dragon stood out in particular: an earth class, large and muscular, sat a ways off and seemed to be observing the commotion with something that was not quite interest, but it wasn't disinterest either. Kavik could respect that. The whole scene was rather messy, discombobulated. Kavik wouldn't have wanted to enter the fray unless his life had depended on it and, as far as he was aware, his life did not depend on it.

An odd sort of pull redirected his attention to the basking dragon. It felt tingly. Familiar, yet he knew full well he had never felt it. It was like... well, deja vu was a good way to explain it. With his curiosity piqued, Kavik forgot all of his irritations regarding those dragon-gushing lunatics and semiconsciously allowed himself to drift away into the earth dragon's image. Everything around the creature was null and void; nothing else mattered -- it was just him and the muscular reptile across the field.

Just them...

Kavik snapped back into reality with a physical jerk and blinked a few times to clear his mind. What in the blazes had that been? His dark brows furrowed and he ran a hand through his black hair, muttering curses under his breath. He didn't even like dragons. He didn't want to be here, and he absolutely did not want to be anywhere near the choosing ceremony. He had work to do.

But...

His gaze was once again drawn to that blasted dragon. Something was crashing and banging inside of him, screaming at him to walk forward, to maybe just stare from a shorter distance, possibly even touch the reptilian form-- Kavik released a low growl and huffed, "W'the blazes has gotten into me today?"

Dan | Fire Dragon | 100 | Male | M: Agneya (ind), Hiroshi (ind), Roxanne

Dan had to travel hundreds of miles to the Choosing Ceremony. Momma told him to get an early start and she even packed him some lizards for him to snack on his way there. However, the month head start didn’t get him there any sooner. In fact, without them he’d still be days away. It really wasn’t smart sending Dan off on a journey that was more than a quick flight around the home volcano. His entire family and neighborhood knew the well-known story about Dan getting lost in a cul-de-sac. It wasn’t his best nor brightest moment, but it was unforgettable. The truth was that it was dear Mommy’s idea to send Dan off to the Choosing Ceremony so that he could gain some brains at the academy. Or maybe it was that they needed a break from him constantly being offended when someone was being sarcastic and eating them out of volcano and home.

Dan heard neither of these versions. Instead he heard an inspiring speech given to him by his father written by his mother about the importance of responsibility and what nots. Dan thought it was a good idea. Now, his parents aren’t horrid. They gave him a fighting chance by giving him a compass which they explained to him over and over again on how it works. He kept on wanting to follow the little silver arrow that spun around if you held up some rocks to it. They escorted him to the edge of their island and waved him off.

And now he was being pounded upon by continuous rain somewhere up north and over earth. Lots of green and brown. The occasional farm, too. He liked passing over the farms and see the cows run or the chickens flee or freak out by his shadow. Farms were fun. He hoped that his rider came from a farm. Maybe he’d be able to scare their chickens. Something loud like thunder gurgled. It was his stomach. He had run out of his lizards a day ago and didn’t want to steal any of the farmer’s funny animals. He really didn’t want to eat grass either. Grass was made for other animals to eat and then he’d eat them. The issue about responsibility was that you had to feed yourself. He learned quickly that it was a pain. Not only was it time consuming, but it was messy. Even hunting for fruit was messy because sometimes they’d be bad berries and he’d spew something from either end. That wasn’t good.

Then something as uplifting as a pool of lava appeared into view. It was a clear sky. A baby blue sky. By Abraham! Was that the sunrise? The sun painted over the angry grey clouds with its lovely reds, pinks, yellows, and oranges. Dan didn’t care that he wasn’t following the little silver arrow anymore. He just needed dry air. Not this drippy stuff. He pushed his large, sail-like wings to beat faster and he wriggled his tail like a fish’s just in case it would help. As he passed from the pouring rain and into the lovely, cool, morning air, he took a deep breath through his cave-like nostrils. He sucked up a fly or two with it, but he didn’t really notice. The view, the weather was just too glorious to care. He continued to fly farther and farther away from the storm. He danced and swirled in the fresh air, thoughtless to the little silver arrow on his compass. He followed the sun for a while until it lost its attractive colors and became the same old bright blob in the sky.

The curious thing is that luck seemed to be on Dan’s side. The change in his coordinates led him straight to the Choosing Ceremony. He actually almost missed it until he saw the dragons and humans. In his excitement he decided to try a steep dive. Maybe he’d make a good first impression. Suddenly he started to get cold feet. What if his human wasn’t here? What if they don’t like me? What if they don’t like to eat? Then his father’s speech returned to him. Not really, Dan couldn’t remember too much from it actually. Just that Dad thought it was about time for him to start a life. Dan, Dan told himself, you are a fire dragon. You can do anything except for the impossible. Is meeting a human who is like a soulmate impossible? No! So go.

So go

So go

So go

He repeated these two simple words the entire time as he glided down. He hoped that everything would go well. The grass seemed really far away so he circled around in spiral until he could touch. It seemed smart, but really he was just a foot off the ground. But oh well, he made it in three months on time. That’s all that really mattered.

For some reason, Dan couldn’t help but smile. He had made it. His first big trip and he didn’t blow it. He couldn’t help but do a little jig which pounded the earth and shook anyone nearby. A large, toothy grin spread wider and wider on his face as he started to roll in the sweet spring grass. It was his version of kissing it. Then he laid still, breathing heavily. Suddenly a thunderclap emerged from his stomach. He was hungry. Suddenly, he became aware of all the staring humans. He couldn’t help but blush. While his face was already red, the gold inlaid around each scale did turn slightly more rosy. He had never been so embarrassed in his entire life. Not even the getting-lost-in-a-cul-de-sac story was as bad as this.

I blew it!

His stomach roared again and he smiled again. This time it was a rather sheepish smile and it remained written all on his face as he slowly walked away from the big indent in the waving grass where he had rolled. He could smell some food nearby. Food was always good. As he walked by, he saw a fire dragon give a boy with rather unruly hair some fruit. Then something changed and clicked in. He was here for a human. He had a purpose and it wasn’t to see how many fried chicken legs he could eat in one gulp. Oh Ronald! What should I do? Where should I look? He twisted his head around, trying to find out where he felt his strongest sense of purpose, of connection, of a friend. He looked down and saw the compass. The little silver arrow had led me here so far, he thought, I might as well keep on following it.

He did exactly that. It led him further from the lake and towards a building. It smelled weird, something strong and—food! He couldn’t help but celebrate by doing a dance. His human was in a place of food! This time it was just his arms so that it would shake the building. He looked through the windows like an overgrown puppy looking for its owner. He bent his thick neck down, but he still couldn’t see out of the windows very well. So he decided that he would, indeed, lay on his belly and then look through. He slowly lowered himself down into a downward pose without being too loud. Unfortunately, it was rather distracting. He scanned the building over and over again and he even started to pace around it.

Then he heard a word that flipped his spirit into cartwheels. His head perked up so quickly that it rattled the tavern’s sign. He peered towards the direction of the noise.

Roxanne

Then he caught his eyes on a shadow. Boom. That’s the person, that’s my person! His wings were trembling and his tail was wagging in fast circles. He didn’t realize that there was another human next to them at all. They were his main focus. The whole world could’ve been flooded and he wouldn’t have noticed. He dashed around the building and directly towards the owner of the shadow so that he skidded to a halt—tearing up clumps of grass behind him. His face was an inch away from her’s. Or at least he thought it was a her. It had been awhile since he had seen humans up close.

Hi! I’m your dragon! Oh my Alan! We’re gonna have so much fun! You’re a bit smaller than what I thought you’d be. Benjamin! I probably should’ve brought something for you.

He remembered the other fire dragon giving her rider fruits. That was nice. He could’ve at least brought his a rock from his volcano. Then he looked down. The compass was still in his hand. It had led him to her efficiently, the little silver arrow was his guide more than once. It made sense that it should be her’s.

Wait! I do have something for you! And he shoved the golden piece onto her lap. Comparing to her, it was huge. Actually, it was about the size of her torso, give or take a few. However, Dan was too excited to realize this so he sat there, his face barely not touching her’s and his tail wagging furiously.

Michael Evans - Rider - 18 - Male - Mentions: Mircea, (Indirect) Other riders, (Indirect) Dragons

Michael had been watching the dragons.

He couldn't help it. They were so eyecatching in a way he had not experienced before, perhaps it was their size that made them hard to consciously ignore; their coloration maybe. Or something undescribable about them that naturally drew the eyes and focus. Perhaps it was him. Who knows? All the same, he had watched the dragons that were currently present arrive. His hidden wonder was dulled slightly by the prey instinct that rose within him by being in the proximity of predators, large, clear, dangerous predators. The compulsion to either freeze in hopes that said predators would ignore him; or to whirl around and bolt away as fast as he could. In response, he took a deep breath in, exhaled, and made himself relax, telling himself that it was fine, nothing bad would happen at this stage. Probably.

It was so that he was watching the dragons with hidden awe, that he almost did not notice the what felt like sudden presence of other humans in the clearing. His attention refocused on the others in the area, taking a good look around him. It was then that he noticed- and recognized, someone. His gray eyes caught on that familiar figure, emotions that he did not care to untangle right now rushed through him. A few memories flashed through his head: of heated arguments, of times where they had ended up scrapping on the ground, not calm moments, for the most part. The person in question, Mircea Cryolar.

His enemy.

His rival.

Even though they had gotten along at times.

Well, he should go and say hello to his old...rival.

With that thought in mind, Michael started toward where Mircea was, who looked like he was saying hi to someone else.
Distracted? Good,
was his immediate thought following that observation. He quietly stalked to his desired location, making sure that he was not within the other man's range of sight; one could call it sneaking, in fact it seemed more careful than his usual gait. Nonetheless, he moved with the same intent that a wolf has when it has its sights set on something, his steps as quiet and swift as a cat. Once a few steps away from his target, he halted. An idea flashed in his mind, one that made an involuntary grin crawl across his face. Not bothering to stifle his grin, he took a step closer, grabbed Mircea's waist, and gently but firmly made him have to turn around to face him. On his face was a grin, a touch smug if an onlook had to describe it.

"Didn't expect to see you here, Apple Tart."

Michael was hard-pressed to keep the preemptive amusement out of his voice, he managed it though. Although his expression probably gave it away. Unless he read it as completely smug. Another idea came into his mind, one that was probably a bad idea, but he found himself going for it nonetheless. Giving the other man no time to react, he lowered himself slightly, hooking an arm around Mircea's legs at roughly the knee, having the other arm around his back for support. When he went to straighten up and hold the other man, who probably wouldn't be happy, Michael belatedly found that he wasn't strong enough to actually preform the movement successfully. He dropped him. And the sudden shift of weight dragged him forward and down onto the man he had just dropped unceremoniously.

Isabel||90||Water dragon||Female||M:Terra,Other Riders(Ind)

Isabel thought She seems okay. She noticed a lot of the other Riders were coming in now. Isabel touched the female's hand and said "Im your dragon the name is Isabel." She looked around then laid down offering her back. She looked at Terra and asked "What is your name?"

She didn't know much about her rider yet but one thing she did know is that the female looked calm. Isabel didn't always like the humans but she felt this one i different. Her issue is that a pair of humans had killed her father when she was younger and her mother had taken Isabel fleeing from the humans. Isabel had been lost in thought when she snaped out of it. She looked at Terra and said "Later we can learn more about each other."

After a bit Ryu notices a tan male standing off to the side away from everyone else. Ryu walked over to the male and touched him.

Ryu sighed and said "Hello my names Ryu and i am your dragons." He kept her vocie low and his touch light so he didn't startle the male. As he looked around Ryu spotted Isabel and sighed. He thought Why must she be in the class she is still young. He looked back at Theo waiting for a response. Ryu obviously wasn't to happy about the whole choosing ceremony and didn't even like it.

Lira Wild-Heart||Female||16||Rider||M: Dawn, Terra(Ref)

Lira had felt a chill run down her spine and wondered why. She decided to leave and go looking for Terra. As Lira walked she passed by a oak tree but when she looked up there was a beatiful Air dragon perched in the tree. She smiled at the big dragon and said "What are you doing in the tree?" She giggled just a bit because she had never seen an Air dragon perched on top of a tree.

Lira wasn't quite sure why the dragon was perched up there but she decided that she would sit under the Oak tree. As she walked under the tree and sat down she felt leaves fall on her head. Lira wondered what dragon she would be paired with or if she will even be paired with one. She looked up meeting the dragons eyes and sighed. Lira looked back down and began to mess with her fingers.

Roxanne Monroe
Rider || Eighteen || Female || Mentions: Lira, Mircea, Dan, Michael

"Hm?"

Her moment of serenity and nostalgia had been brutally interrupted, her gaze shifting to a woman shorter than her with brown hair. Did she say something? Blinking, Roxanne stared at the woman in a failed attempt to process what had been said. She felt compelled to say something, even ask for a repetition, only for the other woman to speak again asking why she was.. standing there?

"What, a woman can't stand alone?" She finally said, "oh, you mean why am I here." She could only assume that was the meaning, so, Roxanne went with it. "Well, the dragons." Motioning to the middle of the valley with a singular hand, she glanced back to the woman. Was she new around here? "Yanno, the annual ceremony and whatnot?" Staring at the woman for a moment longer, Roxanne leaned against the tree once more, crossing her arms in the process. It was not an act of dismissal given her gaze was still upon her, though it was clear that she wished to be alone with her thoughts.

Briefly, her eyes had scanned her vicinity, taking in the filtering newcomers. She had never thought that this many people were so intrigued, but she supposed it made sense. What other time could one see so many dragons in one space, nevermind be picked by one. On Roxanne's gaze swept, picking through the crowd, not in a judgmental manner, but a curious one.

Click, click, click.

Her ears had heard the sudden, rather obnoxious clicking appearing from her right. On it went, like somebody chewing something, or tapping against certain material.

Click, click, click.

Good lord, it sped up!

Roxanne had shifted away from the tree, prepared to confront the individual or whatever it was. Eyes upon the ground, the first thing she had espied when she turned were boots. Not simple one either, but heeled ones. Up the boots her eyes scanned until they paused at a familiar face. Her eyes had squinted for a brief moment before resuming to their typical state, her body backing up a step.

What surprised her most is that the man knew her name.

"Whose asking?" She had countered, gazing at the man with a wary look after a moment of silence. She was not shy when it came to studying him. Rather, Roxanne had given him a once-over, now focused on his face. Clearly the man knew her, but who had she known with long dark hair and amber eyes? Well, there was Arthur.. Mircea.. a Henry or two and..

"Mircea?"

All at once, it had clicked in her mind, her childhood instantly washing over her. Mircea, the Mircea. Of course this was him! It made complete sense. How could she forget? Now, Roxanne was rather delighted, her nostalgia only increasing, however, that wasn't the only thing growing. The memories of her family had as well, and that was something she wished to suppress. It was like a ghost of her past had appeared, bringing happiness with it, but also sad, sad memories. So, the only thing that escaped her mouth was a single: "Oh."

It wasn't as if she didn't know what to say, but moreso the fact that she was too surprised to say much of anything. That, and he reminded her of her childhood.. before the fire. But she couldn't simply stay mute, could she? Nor could she simply walk away.. Well, she could, and it was certainly something she was contemplating, but was it fair to leave without another word a second time? No, it truly wasn't, so, Roxanne would say hello, perhaps make small talk, and then she would leave.

She had noted a scowl upon his face when seeing her scar, to which she pointed at it with her hand and said: "the fire." She didn't bother elaborating. She didn't want to. She wouldn't. Instead, she stood, shifting her weight from left leg to right, teetering. "You've changed quite a lot." She finally managed to spit out, yet still delivering her words in monotone. "I mean.. the hair, and whatnot." The hair, the makeup, the piercings, the clothing, everything. He looked so different. It was still Mircea, but he was grown up. For so long, she had only remembered his childhood face. She had to remind herself that everyone grew up.

A sudden sound had caused her to turn her head abruptly, her eyes scanning the valley. There, in the midst of it, stood an earth dragon. Quite an impressive one at that, with unique coloring. When had it appeared? Had it started already? Pah, she was too busy conversing to notice. She had shot Mircea a brief look, as if it were his fault that she had missed it and had distracted her before glancing back. She watched with interest as the dragon sauntered forward, looking through the crowd for its unlucky rider. However, her eyes didn't remain on the earth dragon for long, as an air dragon soon followed, perching itself upon a tree.

"Remember when we wanted to attend as children?" She had suddenly asked Mircea, still in monotone, but hey, at least she was making conversation. She may have sounded annoyed, or dry, but it was still conversation. She hadn't truly focused any further, her eyes fixated on another dragon appearing..

Oh, hell!

A fire dragon! A big one!

All at once, Roxanne inhaled sharply, narrowing her eyes at it. Fire wasn't a.. thing she rather enjoyed. Why is that, you ask? Oh, no reason, simply that her entire family perished in one, which is why she moved and left Ederia in the first place. No biggie!

She felt for the poor fool who was paired with one. Almost laughed, even.

However, she couldn't tear her eyes away from it, a feeling growing in her chest. Ack, that thing was walking around now! As a response, Roxanne had taken a step back. This was some sort of PTSD, wasn't it? Why else was she feeling such a strong urge grow within her? She had forgotten about fire dragons, and especially didn't think that they'd be this close.

Oh god, it was running.

She had nearly clutched onto Mircea's arm in fright, but found herself standing in place, frozen in a sense. Fire dragons spewed fire. It would be her childhood all over again, but this time, she'd be the one burned! No, she wouldn't have it! "I think I'm going to head out," she had finally mumbled aloud, mainly to Mircea before taking all but a singular step. Despite the pull she felt within her, she was determined to leave. Maybe even sprint away. She would ignore the feeling. It had to have been a form of traumatic response, however, she paused once more when the fire dragon was sprinting in her direction.

It was going to burn her alive!

Fumbling around hers pants, her hands slapped her body in attempt to locate.. Aha! There it was! Pulling out a small dagger she carried, she clutched it in her hand. What was it going to do against a dragon? She didn't know, but she clutched it like a life source nonetheless as it approached.

It was going to burn her, and then eat her!

Why couldn't it have been a water dragon, or.. or an air one? Why must a fire one target her? Oh, the irony!

When the fire dragon neared, Roxanne let a small noise escape her throat as she closed her eyes, putting the dagger up in the air and pointing at it. For a moment, she stood in silence, feeling her hands tremble slightly. This wasn't like her to show so much fear, it was almost humiliating. And, when nothing happened, she peeled her eyes open, only to come face-to-face with the dragon. It was mere inches from her, the dagger falling to her sides as she stared at it.

Speechless was the word to best describe her at the moment. Any moment now, it would open its mouth, and out would come fire. The pull within her only increased, but it wasn't an urge to kill it or harm it. Rather, she couldn't explain it.

Then, it spoke.

Not normally either, but in her mind.

"Hi! I'm your dragon! Oh my Alan! We're gonna have so much fun!"

Roxanne simply stared.

"What."

Then, she repeated it.

"What?"

Before anything further was said, a large compass was dropped into arms, almost weighing her down. In the end, it did weigh her down to the point where she ended up on the ground with it in her lap. So heavy it was, that she couldn't move. She was stuck, unable to run! How was she supposed to flee now? Now, Roxanne should say something, possibly question the dragon. Yes, she would say something, perhaps see if the dragon made a mistake. So, she took a deep inhale, and spoke.

"What."

Maybe she was in shock, that would certainly explain it. Pah, she should have never come to this blasted ceremony! And this compass, it was so heavy. Ack, she needed to thank him in case he got offended!

"Thank you for the compass. It's very.. big," she finally managed to push out.

Curse her idiocy! What was she supposed to do now? The dragon had given her a gift. Was she supposed to bring something? Oh, god, what if he burned her because she didn't bring a gift? She needed to give him something! Anything! She refused to die!

What did she have? What did she have?

Ah, perfect!

Lifting her arm, she offered the dagger she held to him. Did she want to part with it? No. But it was either that, or risk being killed, so she had no choice but to offer it up, even if it looked like a splinter in the dragon's hand.

Blinking once more, she turned to Mircea, only to see a new individual that spoke something along the lines of.. Apple Tart?

Good god, what was happening?

Turning back to the dragon, she peered up at it. It was clear Roxanne knew hardly anything about dragons from her next question: "Are you going to burn me?" If it was going to, maybe it would have already? Besides, this dragon was oddly bubbly. Unless he was excited to burn her alive. However, this pull she felt within her.. something told her he wasn't going to harm her? But she couldn't rely on it.

Roxanne sat there for a few moments, collecting her thoughts before motioning to the compass, her eyes glued onto the dragon in fear that if she took them off, something bad would happen.

Could you.. help me pick it up?

Oh, snap! How did she do that? "Did you hear that?" She asked him, wondering if she was simply going mad or not. Maybe she was, who could tell anymore. Roxanne could hardly think clearly, which wasn't like her at all. Her main plan was simply to watch the dragons and leave, that was it. She didn't expect to, what, be chosen by one!

Especially a fire one.
