Dragon Rider | 16 | Female | Mentions: Aerrax

The petite girl smiled widely at Aerrax, thankfulness gleaming in her eyes. She continued her scratches, and nodded gently to him. "I trust you, I just never thought I'd be here. Yanno? Sure it was a possibility. But Me? A Dragon Rider? Who would've thought?" She shrugged gently, and returned her focus onto the dragon.

"I'm obviously the luckiest though, because I have the best, most cutest, awesomest dragon there is," she grinned widely, but her attention quickly moved as the Elder's announced the beginning. She let out a soft breath and nodded gently to herself. Right. Yes. This was the beginning of the rest of her life.

"Well," she turned back to Aerrax and gently cupped his face before gently, and bravely, pressing a soft kiss to his snout. "We've got this," she then beamed and moved around to where his saddle was and carefully trailed her fingers across it. "Alright.. Here we go.." She murmured and then pulled herself into, adjusting her positioning a bit before nodding. It was made perfectly for the two of them, and she was sure that, while it was on, no one could possibly sit comfortably in the saddle besides her.

"Okay, Rax. I'm ready when you are," she breathed out, before gently patting his neck.

Nicodemus Brooks
Squad Leader | Male | 23 | Mentions: Brontes, Dragons & Riders, NPC Attackers

Cold eyes watched the valley residents while listening to the blue hued dragon beside him speak, nodding occasionally to his words. He glanced at him from the side and snorted softly, "do you forget I have an elongated lifespan now do to our bond? I thought you weren't so daft, Brontes." His tone was teasing, otherwise the words might have been hurtful. This was how Nicodemus was though, about the only one who got to see more than his cold demeanor was Brontes. Plus, the words he spoke were true. Being a dragon rider meant his aging slowed. He was by no means immortal or could live as long as a dragon, but he'd life longer than your average human. The bond between dragon and rider was an odd, magical thing that few understood even the barest minimum of it. Who knows what it was capable of.

The young man's attention was whisked back to the field of new riders when the Elders gave the command to commence the first ride, and he straightened a bit to watch how it would proceed. He didn't think many, if any, would fail this year, as it was a solid group of riders and dragons, but one could never know for sure.

The first dragon and rider pair took off, successfully merging with the sky, before another, with others following suit and some mounting their dragons to prepare for take off. Unusually enough, he hadn't been paying close attention to his brother, so by the time he looked for him, he didn't know if he had launched or not.

Nicodemus was so enveloped in watching his new Team of Dragon Riders that at first he didn't feel the distinct sensation of vibrations in the ground. At first he brushed it off, thinking that it was just the dragons below, but, as it grew stronger he realized he was mistaken. Focusing on the ground beneath him, kneeling once more and placing his palm flat on the ground.

"What the..", his brow creased as he kneeled, confusion spreading through him. The feeling was not coming from the valley, but coming.. behind them? Straightening he turned to look behind him, in the direction they had all come from earlier. He saw distant smoke from the Kingdom, but he didn't think anything of that, it wasn't unusual for fires to be made in the Kingdom for various thing. What did concern him was the faint sounds of stomping he heard in that direction, their intensity increasing with each passing second.

"Brontes... do you hear that?" He questioned, striding forward a bit to get a better look. His eyes narrowed as he studied the path, the sound of stomping, mixed with something else, something familiar, growing louder. His eyes had just locked onto the first rider, the other sound obviously being the sound of hooves, when a low whistling sound met his ears. He knew that sound. He knew that sound very well.

"Watch out!" He calld to Brontes, trying to turn, but the whistling sound pierced his thigh, causing him to cry out, stumbling backwards and into the dragon.

"We're being attacked, Brontes. Someone is attacking the Kingdom," he grimaced in pain as he pressed at the skin around the arrow protruding from his thigh. "We have to warn the others," he stumbled forward and let out a bellow. "Get out of here! NOW!"

Growling in pain he dragged himself up into the saddle on Brontes' back, soft gasping noises being made every time he moved his leg. There was blood, he could feel it covering his hand and drooling down his leg, but he knew it wasn't bleeding bad enough to be immediately life threatening.

"We," he paused as he moved his leg into a better position, pain raking through his leg. "We have to buy them some time so they can all get out of here, they can't fight," leaning heavily on the dragon's neck he unsheathed his sword, and nodded gently. "We'll have to fight. Once the rest are out, we can flee," he murmured, knowing by the sound of riders and foot soliders that they were out numbered by too many to have a chance at winning.

Geneviève Ophelia-Odette Caballero

Spectator (?) / Future Dragon Rider | Female | Mentions: Ana-Lucia , Syvnne, NPC Attackers [ Archibold Lodei - Earth Manipulation Mage , Logan Redfern - Physical Strength ]

The young woman was quite proud of her sister. A soft smile was on her face as she watched her sister with her dragon. She was envious or jealous of her - rather she was proud that at least one of them had been chosen to become a Rider. However, she was disappointed that she hadn't made a connection with a dragon it was such a pity to her. And she hoped that the next year she would be chosen and have a chance to join the ranks of the riders. It was so awe-inspiring to watch as some of the future riders began taking off into the sky and flying away to a secret location that was their designated route. The mystery and intrigue behind that was enough to make her grin. And she looked forward to watching as her sister became a speck in the sky with her dragon. There would be no malice held, only love for her sister - and she would support her no matter what. It was a very peaceful day and it seemed nothing could go wrong. However something was terribly wrong - and she looked behind her , she could see plumes of stygian smoke in the background. Most in the crowd weren't paying attention, but a worried expression was cast upon her face as she looked around.

Something was off. And she could feel it in her bones. That's when she heard it - like a sound of an approaching thunderstorm, horses and lots of them. What was going on? At the sound of the horses she could hear the crowd die down a bit and begin looking to see what was going on. That's when a maniacal laugh could be heard as a man made his face known, he was a man of rather average height with cropped salt n' pepper hair - one would think he was no threat but there was a dangerous aura about him, his grey eyes appeared unhinged. And the taller man beside him with a rather placid expression on his face held a massive war hammer slung over his shoulder with relative ease - his shaggy brown hair falling on his face slightly.

" You poor Ederian fools. " the shorter one began with a powerful tone, " you have your magnificent school, your dragons." He said the word with such disdain it caused a ripple of anger to come through the crowd. The man only scoffed and stood taller - a malicious snicker playing on his lips as he said, " you really are a concieted lot aren't you? No matter, your time for judgment has arrived. And I'm the Grim Reaper."

And with that he raised his hands to the sky and mounds of earth shot up in deadly stacks - not very large but they shot up with such force that it caused a panic and scrambling among the crowd. Men who had swords on them rushed to save the lives of the others behind them as more foot soldiers arrived on the scene. It was pure anarchy. And she watched as the salt n' pepper man began to laugh and seemingly gleam with malice at his work.

" Oh look at them run. The poor things, like chickens without heads . Logan, would you be a dear and exterminate them. They're quite noisy." The earth user cackled.

Geneviéve was frozen with fear. What should she do. The riders obviously would notice the commotion but the still needed a rude awakening and it seems no adult was near. She had to warn them, it was stupid and reckless but she had to - her sister was among them. And she she gritted her teeth and squeezed her knuckles before finding her bearings to move. She needed a plan - she had to blend in with the chaos and get a weapon. And so she followed the flow of the scattering crowd, the sounds of agony and wailing of the people as they were merciless slaughtered. Either by the hammer or the turbulent earth. That's when a flash caught her eyes, it was a longsword - and she thanked the god's. The young woman quickly grabbed the weapon but she could feel the earth rumble underneath her and she to move rather than think about it.

She quickly darted to her left before the earthen spike could pierce her leg — the move was uncoordinated, and it caused her to fall on the ground in shock. She had been taken by surprise, it was odd seeing such witchcraft. She looked up to see the amused grey eyes of the man behind this anarchy. And she could feel her blood boil at the sight of the man — this bastard, she inwardly seethed - taking the moment to get herself off the ground.

" Looks like a little hen is trying to escape the coop. Don't move girl - I'll make your death painless." He spoke .

"Go to hell." She spat back before launching herself towards him him. She was going for blood. This was do or die and that was very clear - and she was planning on living damnit. Their weapons were very different - he wielded both earth and spear while she had a mere sword and her wit. That's right - she had her wits. And she noticed a slight bludge in his boot, he had a dagger - that was useful.

So casually she placed her sword down. "I surrender." She said plainly - holding her hands up, a farce to get her quarry to take the bait. Her expression remaining neutral — hiding her true intentions. Her target looked estatic to hear that. What a fool, she thought.

"Aw, and I was looking for a fight. You're no fun, but going out by a spear will do you just fine." And he came towards the girl with spear raised and ready to piece her, but he had made the miscalculation of underestimating her. And at the last second of him coming - she dropped to the ground, and grabbed his leg, and removed the dagger hidden within his boot and stabbed him with it. The sound of his outcry of pain was music to her ears — and vermillion droplets stained her hands because of what she had done. It didn't faze her because she was on a mission and this was do or die.

The man was now groaning on the ground in pain, and she knew she only had a few moments before he would be up hobbling to attempt to stop her. And she quickly grabbed the previous abandoned longsword and began sprinting. Jumping over the fences or whatever the hell had been blocking them from the valley. She was so high on adrenaline right now — it felt like the world was spinning before her.

" We're under attack! " she bellowed, " fly! fly! fly! " she was frantically yelling, and she realized she had two followers- oh hell no, they weren't getting anywhere near the riders while she could fight.

And so she charged the two swordsman. And noticing the swordsman that was closer she decided to go for him and so she lunged with her might - bring down her sword against his. It was a rather rhythmic dance of the blades. The sounds of the metal clashing together was grating. Sshhhck— and she swung up to create distance. She kept her eye on him and watched him closely. She tapped her sword to the top of his and the response was immediate — and this was his mistake, the moment she tapped this time , instead of going the usual route she moved her sword under his and attacked his sides, giving him a cut to the arm. He was pissed by that and began swinging wildly in anger, this meant his defenses were down and she took advantage of that in this close fight. He wasn't guarding his exposed body, and so she let him come with force down on her — leaning back as he pressed down with great force on her, and she took this distraction to kick him in the gut, and send him back before lunging bringing down the hilt of the sword on his unprotected head

The other soilder had a helmet and a chest plate. This was going to be tricky. And he seemed to be swifter than the man before. And it was a pause as if both were studying the other before the man made a move to leap towards her, and she had a time avoiding his attacks - he was relentless and she let her guard down for a moment and felt the sword pierce her shoulder and she hissed in pain at the sword being removed and she could really feel the adrenaline get to her. She began swinging the sword willing, yet there was a sword of precision and fire to it - she wasn't letting go, she would not back down. In the spur of the moment the man tripped , and Geneviéve took this as an opportunity and she lunged forward - high on adrenaline, and her blade pierced his neck.

She was breathing heavily at this point. Oh god, what had she done. She's just killed someone. But it was fair, right? He was going to kill her and anyone else he found. Her stance was wobbly and unsteady as she moved. The blood on her shoulder was pouring down - it was a nasty stab wound, but that was only a flesh wound. She may have looked absolutely horrifying right now, her hair messy and wild, her staggering stance , and not to mention covered in her blood and the blood of an enemy. And that's when she noticed more soldiers coming - more than she could handle, but by the gods she would go down fighting.

If this was how she was gonna die. So be it ; at least she bought her sister some time.

=Quill Ellwood=

Dragon Rider || 16 || Female || Mentions: Rimfire, Other Riders & Dragons

=====

Quill listened attentively to Rimfire's warning, tightening the hair-ribbon to hide the fact her hands were slightly shaking. She wasn't quite sure if this was more nerves or fear yet, but there was definitely elements of both. One one hand, she couldn't wait to gaze down at the valley, soar high above everything and everyone... But on the other every logical bone in her body seemed to be telling her to stay firmly on the ground.

"I do sincerely hope you are ready." Rim's deep rumble interrupted her thoughts and she moved towords him, quickly seating herself on the saddle and shifting her weight so she sat in the middle. Nothing like a horse. She reminded herself, remembering the Dragon's distaste for the creatures.

Certainly nothing like she'd ever experienced before - she could slightly feel the rough texture of his scales from beneath the saddle. With every movement, Quill became more and more aware of how much trust she was putting in this mighty Dragon. With one flick of his tail he could probably snap her spine, one twist and she could slip free of the saddle and crash to the ground. No, trust. She tensed as the Storm Dragon began to walk, her hands gripping the saddle as she tried not to think - yet again - of how stupid she would look if she fell. She could feel the movement of the dragon beneath her - his lean muscles powerful, even for a Dragon and held her breath as she prepared herself for the takeoff. This was it. The only way she would get down now would be by falling to her death or setting down after a successful flight. Her determination... and probably also fear, would keep her wits sharp enough to make it safely through the flight and prove herself.

"Ready." She muttered - more to herself than anyone else - leaning forward as he extended his long wings. And then they lifted off.

The Rider squinted as the air rushed past her face as Rimfire gained altitude. Her senses felt muffled, and she kept herself low to her Dragon as he smoothly made his way through the sky. As she gripped the saddle, Quill looked back over her shoulder in awe.

The landscape below was much better viewed from above, and it had been a beautiful one to begin with. Quill's eyes widened as she watched the people below grow smaller and smaller, and she challenged herself to pick out her mother from the crowd. She released her held breath, and took a deeper one, stretching her face up for a moment to enjoy the air - somehow so different from down below. So free, so exhillarating.

She was just about to ask Rimfire if flying was always like this, or a first time thing - when she caught a glimpse of something moving towords the valley. A whole lot of swiftly moving somethings. With the wind rushing in her ears and the sun uncomfortably in the corner of her eyes, she was just worried enough to take a tentative hand off the saddle and shield her eyes with her arm.

Her stomach lurched as she realised what was occurring. An attack from who-knew, for who-knows what reason. Well, she could guess the reason easily. It didn't matter right now anyway: her mother, everyone down below, all the innocent defenseless people were about to be right in the middle of it.

"Rimfire! Down below-" She felt a wave of panic as the red-and-gold group blended into the new eruption of chaos and she lost sight of her mother. The pounding of her heart joined the wind filling her ears and she lightly bit her tongue to suppress any unthought-through emotions. Of course wanted to throw herself down, join her mother's side and flight just as she had been taught but that would be downright stupid. Her mother could handle herself, and there were already a handful of quick-thinking people who had armed themselves and fighting in the group down below. It was the Riders and Dragons who were their targets, and she was determined not to give them what they wanted. That, her mother would agree with.

Unsure of their next move, Quill waved a hand to get Rim's attention again, the one hand gripping as tightly as it could. "Where do we go? The meetup spot?" She shielded her eyes again to try and catch sight of the other riders.

Zehra

Dream Dragon | Female | M: Mircea, others[ind.]

"Oh yes, I'm absolutely fine ⎯ Zehra." Despite Mircea assuring her, that he was fine, the dream dragon was not confident in his reply, but she didn't push it. The dragon nearly interfered when the two started to strangle each other, but they seemed fine with it so she let the two riders get it out of their system. She had seen humans do it quite a lot as of late, and didn't understand why they would want to harm each other in such a way. Just after Mircea’s friend had left, he decided to go after them, to which she happily followed along behind him. She quite liked the other boy and let out an excited snort at the mention of competition. I'm sure we will blow them out of the water. She agreed, using the mind link.

Go as fast as you want, go as high as you want, I want the full experience. I'm ready for our first official flight together. As he finished speaking the dragoness immediately dropped a knee, folding her wings out of the way so her rider could climb on. Are you ready to fly, Mircea Rosenburg? And with that, the dream dragon fully extended her two pairs of wings, ready to take flight when the ground began to tremble, and she wasn't the only one who could feel it either, it seemed as if the squad leader felt as if something was up. A high pitch whistler noise pierced the air and she heard a shriek from the lead's direction.

“Mircea, hold on. Tight.”

She didn’t give the boy an option as she launched herself skyward, her powerful legs propelling her off the ground and her double wings working overtime to escape. She heard a faint "Get out of here! NOW!", but all sound quickly faded as she climbed higher, and higher, and higher, into the sky. At one point the dragoness had pulled up at such a sharp angle, that she thought she had lost Mircea, but luckily her rider had a saddle. She checked rapidly over her shoulder to make sure her human had stayed on, leveling out if he ever looked ready to tip. She wasn't about to lose him now, if Mircea did manage to fall, that would be quite the skill on his end.

Relax. We are safe now. She spoke, gliding softly through the clouds. We have a meeting point where all the others are headed, where we’ll be safe.

Hopefully. Zehra did her best to make sure any unfamiliar faces did not follow them. She didnt wish to lead the enemy to their safe haven. All the dragon could do now was make the flight to the meeting point easy on her rider, and hope that everyone would make it there alright. Her number one priority was keeping her rider safe. She wouldn't go back for anybody else.

Percival du Bec | M| 17 | Noble/Dragon Rider

Mentions: Aether (dir.), other riders (ind.)

Percival nods his head, giving Aether his best attempt at being serious. He listens to the words Aether has to say, allowing the dragon's wise words to enter his ears. As you might expect, reading and Percy never mixed well. He tried to read something about dragons but never got what it was trying to inform him. Percy has to rely on pure skills and use his fear of not dying to survive this ordeal. He was anxious about this whole testing thing and sure as not wanting to die.

But when Aether said he's testing him, his heart stopped for a second. "Excuse me?" His voice was barely audible, and he could feel death's hands touch his shoulders. "No, don't touch me. I'm not going to die today. Well," eyes rolling, "not yet anyway." Percival checks the saddle out for malfunctions, but this was his first time on one. He doesn't know what it's supposed to be. He shuffles in his seat, his butt not enjoying sitting on this leather. "No cushioned seating? Are they reserved for experienced riders?" Muttering to himself, staring down at the dragon's head.

He was silent while riding on Aether, patiently waiting for them to arrive at their take-off location. "Are you going to give me riddles or something? I'm not good with those sorts of things." Adjusting himself again, the hard saddle hurting his rump more. Percival holding back a painful groan, "Are dragon's backs more comfortable than the saddles? If so, I might take it off myself." Doing his poor attempt at a joke, trying to settle his increasing nerves. Before he could say anything else to Aether to distract him, his companion already took off.

How could anyone find this fun!?! It's cold! He's high up! His stomach is queasy! And there was an army!

Wait, there's an army!?!

Were they part of the test? No, it doesn't seem like it. No one was supposed to kill each other during these trials. It wasn't the way it was supposed to go. Everyone was panicking. They were dying.

Yes, they were dying. People are dying below him. His eyes moved to the colors of an unfamiliar kingdom, and his face grew pale. They were caught off guard and attacked while everyone's guards were down. How did they know when to attack? Was there a spy they implemented within this well-guarded kingdom?

So many questions that desperately need answers. Percival was struggling with many things: trying to keep himself from falling out of the saddle and blocking out the screams of those getting slaughtered down below. His stomach wasn't helping either, daring him to release whatever was in his stomach. His mind instantly went to Mircea. His eyes scanned the area in search of his beloved. . .friend. Yes, friend.

His heart was hurting worse, and he was starting to feel dizzy. Percy's vision was getting cloudy, and he could swear he smelt blood from way up here. "Aether," his voice was a trembling mess, "I don't know what to do. I don't know what's the best decision." Shaking his head and forcing his body to stop shaking. Too many things were happening at once-scrambling his brain and making him ill. Percival takes a deep breath, the cold air hurting his tightened throat.

"Think, Percival. Come up with something." Inhaling and exhaling rapidly, finally, he came up with something. He forces himself to settle his nerves. Gradually, the man's fear subsided. "We have to help whoever we can. I need to keep the defenseless safe." A new look was on his face, and his eyes shined brighter. Percival's fear was replaced with determination, hearing the cries of the people fueling his sense of bravery. Or could it be bravado?

Whatever the case, Percy can't sit around while his people are getting hurt.

Aether - Air Dragon - Male - 190 - Mentions: Percival, other people (indirect)

Chaos.

It was chaos below.

He had been about to reply to Percival's questions, but then the army below them had caught his attention before he managed to utter a word. With his gaze tilted downwards, he could make out the colors of the rival army, a rather regal combination of black and gold. Seeing that, he racked his brain for kingdoms that had those colors; he could have sworn that he knew which kingdom that was, yet he could not recall it at the moment. The shock of seeing everything below did not help in the least.

The scent of blood was strong in his nostrils, his keener sense of smell picking up on the horrible coppery scent. Even from up where he was flying, it was quite easy to pick up, for a dragon; he didn't think humans had that good noses to pick up on that stench. And the sounds were no better.

And he was conflicted. A part of him wanted to go down there and help, while he was by no means the strongest or dangerous dragon, he could still provide some help to the unsuspecting people below. But the other part of him wanted to fly away to the designated spot as fast as he could; his rider was the priority here. He was not willing to lose him just because he wanted to help. And even though he knew the priority in this situation, he still hesitated. The blood-scent and screams below tugged at his heart, and his wings nearly skipped a beat midair.

And his rider was being affected negatively.

That he knew from glancing back at the human on his back. This was not doing any good to either of them, and so he prepared to keep flying, to increase his speed so that they would not hear the sounds of the slaughter below.

"Aether,"

The trembling voice of his rider made him pause, not literally because that would be a mess while in flight, and he banked gently; tilting his wings and body so that he circled above like how hunting birds of prey tended to do. He kept from beating his wings regularly, and instead kept his wings straight out in a glide, letting the wind keep them aloft while boosting altitude by a flap every so often.

"I don't know what to do. I don't know what's the best decision."

He swung his neck around, so that he could look at Percival a bit better. And damn, he looked like a mess; the urge to take off flying fast as he could increased, but he tempered that urge in order to listen to the human. Glad to know that he was not the only one torn by what course of action to take

I cannot offer any advice on this. I don't want to leave those people, but I don't want to lose you either. Aether admitted after a moment, looking away and down again, then lifting his head and taking a quick look around the sky, and then back to Percival. A gust of a stray current lifted his lowered wing and threw him off balance, managing to ease into the gentle circle once again after the brief interruption.

"We have to help whoever we can. I need to keep the defenseless safe."

Those words were expected, considering his rider's personality. But those those two sentences made him feel as if he got submurged in the ocean in the dead of winter. That head turned back towards the human, ready to protest even though he did want to help, and then stopped, reading his rider's determination that had replaced the fear and shock. And then turned away again, mind racing, and he was silent for a minute. Tuning out the screams and scent of blood, fighting with himself.

"Fine. But do not sacrifice yourself for some stranger," He finally growled, wings coming down once in a forceful flap that lifted him up a bit more. Head snapping around to face the human, expression and voice serious and fierce; he had to make this point, he didn't want to lose his rider within the first week they had been bonded. Adding in a fierce voice. "you hear me rider? Do not play hero."

"Consider this part of the flight test. Hold on tight." He then said in a lighter-toned voice, right before he plunged into a dive. His sleek form cut through the air, large wings folded, and letting gravity do the rest of the work. The roar of the wind filled his ears, yet the sounds of fighting cut through the wind. Rapidly nearing the ground, he was very careful to judge the distance.

Then he pulled up quickly; snapping out his silver edged wings and breaking out of the typical dive position, adjusting so that his front half was reared up a bit, neck arched into a tight ess shape. He knew from experience that the landing would be harder than normal, and he hoped that Percival would not be thrown from his back on impact. A moment later after that little hope, his hind legs hit the earth first, sending jarring jolts up his legs at the impact, then his front legs followed a beat later; the heavy impact of the dragon sending tremors through the ground. And he caught a soldier or two being thrown off their feet from the proximity.

Immediately folding his wings in a bit, Aether straightened to his full height and roared. The roar was higher pitched than most would assume of a dragon; a distinctive high wailing sound that almost sounded alien.

He was aware of people all over, a bunch of foot soldiers attacking; chaos. And they were there to add to it. A strong swipe of his tail sent one or two enemies flying, and he twisted his body to snap his jaws in the vague direction of a human that was too close to them. It was at times like this, that he wished his ability was useful, more offensive in nature.

Well Percival, what do you suggest now? He asked through the mind link, swiping at a human wielding a sword; because they had obviously brought down some attackers on themself. Without waiting for an answer, he swiftled turned and bit some idiot that decided to try and go for his flank. While the bite wouldn't have been bad to a dragon or creature of similiar size, it was downright fatal for a human. He did not dare pause and look back at his rider, it was a battle and such might result in him being hurt or killed, and then where would Percival be? He snarled, an expression of aggression, for while he may have been mild-tempered by nature, he was still a dragon. And dragons, are not to be messed with. Another swipe of the tail to clear any attackers within that range, and with a quick glance around to make sure there weren't any innocents in crowd near him, decided to put his ability to use.

A strong gust of wind issued from his jaws, the speed and strength of it was not the strongest, for that would most definitely be overkill when dealing with humans, but it was definitely enough to push them away; and send a few of them off the ground. Oh well.

=Ærrax=

Earth Dragon || 85 || Male || Mentions: Sprout (dir), Other Riders & Dragons

=====

Ærrax couldn't stop his tail from wagging - the thump thump leaving slight dents in the ground. Sprout's compliments filled his body with energy and he was soon ready to go. He had he been so worried about this whole thing: the other Dragons, picking out a Rider, seeing how they would react to him choosing them? It wasn't as if he had low expectations, but up until now, the large male had barely had many interactions with people - up in the seclusion of his mountain home. But here was Sprout, with her gentle scratches and thoughtfulness such a fresh breath of air.

Ah, that was another thing. Flight. He had been unsure exactly what his new Rider would think of his gliding. That was what mostly set him apart from the other Dragons here. With their large arching wingspans they could launch themselves into the air whenever - but Ærrax could simply glide, using wind currents and any energy he could spare. This first flight wouldn't be so difficult, but a little part of him worried that he'd mess up and get them caught in the bottom of the valley with no way else out other than to climb. He could if needed, but he wanted himself and Sprout to fit with this team of Riders and Dragons. He wasn't sure what the future would hold, exactly, but it wouldn't be easy.

Suddenly a soft pair of hands cupped his snout - calming his thoughts. Sprout lightly kissed his snout and he returned the gesture with a soft puff of air. Not just anyone would be brave to put their face so close to a Dragon's maw. It wasn't as if he bore any ill intensions, but still, there was bravery in getting so close to his sharp, toothy mouth and armour-like scales.

Ærrax stepped on the tail to stop it wagging, and streached out his wings quickly before lowering to a sort of kneel so his young Rider could get atop his back. This was it - their first glide, flight, whatever together. The saddle felt perfect against the dip in his back and the weight of his rider was unsuprisingly light, but comforting.

"Ready. Hold tight." He responded softly, gaining some speed as he began to make his way up the valley so they would have a good point to launch off of. He would need to judge the jump well, so his wings could catch some wind as to avoid using up too much energy immediately. Flying was no easy feat for himself but he was feeling energetic today. Excited. Maybe a little worried. But any doubts he would leave behind on the ground. Hesitancy could spell a disastrous flight, so he shook his head to free his thoughts.

Then he was jogging, running, sprinting, jumping and about to soar off the edge of the small clff-side... when he paused, skidding to a stop about a meter from the edge. His claws dug into the ground and his tail hooked into the ground; his head turned in the opposite direction.

Vibrations. Through the ground. He could feel the charge of many creatures quickly advancing in the direction of the remaining Dragons and Riders. Enemies? He wasn't sure exactly who they were, but the chaos quick was quick to unfold proved they were certainly not a freind. No not friendly - the glint of metal met the corner of his eye and he turned to see the horses galloping up the valley.

He could charge down to meet them, getting himself in-between the army of red-and-gold and the innocent people already caught in the fray. His scales would outlast any of their weak metallic armour. But there was also a vulnerable Rider, holding onto his back, on the saddle.

Sprout depended on him now, and he too depended on her. He would not let anything hurt his Rider, and recklessly charging head-first into the chaos below would certainly put her at risk. Especially with the rate at which they kept coming and coming. So many of them. He could not hesitate further. The majority of this army seemed headed towords whatever Riders & Dragons remained down below. Their motive was clear.

In almost perfect unison with several other Dragons, he roared a warning - his tone harsher than usual as he struggled to suppress his panic. Hopefully everyone, Dragon, Rider and the local humans would make their way to safety.

Arrows began to litter the sky - Ærrax was loosing his advantage of distance, higher up the Valley. With no more time to waste, he backed a few steps then charged and spread his wings wide, pushing steadily into the air. He tried to ignore the pain as he fought for every inch of altitude, getting higher until he was content enough to release for a moment and turn his head back to face the battle below.

Something skidded past his head and he huffed angrily as his left eye blurred - something hot and sticky and probably blood dripping into it. He struggled to blink it out of the way, his wings still working hard as he twisted and turned slightly to avoid any more attacks.

"Sprout-" He whipped his tail around to block another attack, "I need to focus on keeping up airborne. Tell me which way to go."

——— ●⧼ Rimfire ⧽●———

Storm Dragon || 202 Years || Male || M: Quill, Aether + Percival { ind. }, Dragons { ind. }

—————————————————————

As the dragon shot upwards, he could feel the wind rushing through him. Underneath his wings, weaving in and out of his scales.. it felt so nice, and it felt so good. Skies, if only he could fly on forever.

When he reached just high enough in the sky, Rimfire tilted his wings slightly, changing their angle completely, and began flying normally for a few moments, catching his breath. Did he use a bit of energy to make such a badass take-off to show off? Maybe.. but he also hadn't been flying this high in a few days, and he was hungry from a nice rush. Was Quill impressed? He hoped, just a little bit she was. He actually wanted to ask his Rider something, however, before he could do so he could feel an uneasy feeling creeping up on him. It was rather confusing honestly, he felt fine, relaxed, thrilled. But deep behind those feelings, he could feel a large, dark shadow peering over them. Quill had said something, not entirely audbile and just before he knew it, he glanced downwards for just a second. Then, he knew why.

Down below an army of riders descended from the forests, swords in their hands, fitted in armor. This was an ambush, of some sort. A poorly timed ambush, but it was still an ambush. Swords were swung in the air, cutting down anyone who stood in their path, causing panic and suffering. Rim wanted to go down there, a moment to swoop down and eradicate these rats... he really wanted to go down there, and rain hell upon the invaders. He wanted to make them pay. They were not only destroying the lives of people, but they were destroying the life of the Valley. Dragons.. so many dragons were still down there, no doubt. But, unfortunately, he knew better than to do that. He, nor was Quill, ready for such conflict. None of these riders were, and if they thought they were, they were pure fools, sending themselves to the battle field was absolutely certain death.

As a hand was waved towards him, Rimfire looked back to Quill. "Where do we go? The meetup spot?"

Sighing, Rimfire nodded and began to change direction. "We have no other choice-"

Just before he could finish, something caught his eye. An Air Dragon and its rider descend down back to the ground. They hadn't done anything to him, and he'd never seen them before. But it made Rimfire furious. They weren't only risking themselves, but everyone else! Oh, the anger building within the Storm Dragon was immeasurable. Maybe he would go down there, and bite the hind end of that foolish dragon himself along with that moronic rider. He understood if they were to go down there and save each other, because if Quill were down there Rim wouldn't hesitate to swoop down and grab her, but then he'd leave. Both of them were complete fools. Oh, ho ho.. if they even survive this, and make it to the spot, Rim would for sure bite their tails off.

Well. His pleasant mood was completely ruined.

"Quill. See them? The Air Dragon and it's rider? Decesnding into battle with absolute no experience? I advise you to stay away from them. I can't control what you do, or whom you associate yourself with, but those are the kind of morons you don't need to accompany yourself with."

With a deep, malicious growl, the dragon hoisted himself higher up, moving his position, changing directions towards where the said-spot was. It made him feel a bit more relaxed watching as other riders and dragons flew in the same direction, at least they weren't all stupid.
