Shock hit Windlock like a ton of bricks, she was Inferno. Inferno the merciless champion, Inferno the very one he had watched from the top of the balcony, betting against. Then naturally, the wind mage started to cover up his shock by the realization that she had spoken, "I didn't know you could talk." Windlock spoke in his witty tone.
Inferno went on informing Windlock on how she hated ice creatures and the fact that she needed her leg to be thawed. Though sitting in the cold cell definitely wouldn't help in this situation, causing the thawing process to slow by a landslide.
Windlock listened intently to what Inferno had say, but suddenly her voice tipped and went cold. A feeling like daggers in his chest, he looked down in response of the question, "to be honest, I don't really know myself, and my brothers barely notice I exist half the time." He paused for a moment, "I guess I just don't feel right about seeing you held against your will."
The wind mage then perked his head up, "hey! I think I might be able to help with that leg of yours." He smiled and grabbed some loose stones of the ground, "I'll be right back!"

She gazed at him for a little longer, then smirked at his little slip up with his expression. “Mages only have humanoid forms. Most supernaturals have two, our original and our humanoid. You’ve clearly seen me in my original form out in the arena, and now you’ve seen my humanoid. I don’t usually stay in this one often or for very long, but it’s easier to teat my wounds this way. Everything is more reachable when you have hands and not claws.” Inferno’s smirk twisted into an expression of bitter amusement. “Don’t feel any sort of way about my situation. I’ve been here since I was a pup. It’s basically my home — it is my home, my place alongside the bloodthirsty and bloodlust. Perfect place for a Hellhound to resign, eh? Chained up and muzzled, bent to a gambler's will and forced to kill and fight for human entertainment and coin.” As the Wind Mage scrambled off with a few loose stones in his hands, off to do stars know what with them, Inferno tipped her head back, propping herself up on her hands as she stared at the stone ceiling above her, waiting for him to return with something that would hopefully help her leg.

"Soul!" Windlock ran back into the infirmary with the stones still in the palm of his hand, "hey could you do something for me?" The wind mage waited for a response from his brother but the fire mage preoccupied with a couple of fans girls, "Soul!" Windlock pushed through the women placing the cold rocks in Soulfire's hands.
"What could possibly be so important, Windlock?" The fire mage's tone was definitely radiating 'I'm irritated with you small twig' vibes but Windlock didn't care. "Can you warm them up?" He ask ignoring the complaints of the fan girls. "Please excuse my brother ladies," Soulfire cleared his throat and turned, burning a direct death stare at Windlock, "why do you want me to warm up a bunch of rocks?" Windlock stood silently thinking of a reason, "I just wanted to- I just want some hot rocks." Yes, Windlock knew he sounded extremely stupid at the moment but that was all he could think of, and his stupidity was rewarded with Soulfire's famous eyebrow raise, "hot rocks eh? What's in it for me?" Well this question was easy, "I will leave you alone," Windlock almost blurted because he knew Soulfire didn't want to deal with 'children' when hanging out with his lady friends.
Before he knew it, Soulfire held red hot stones in palm while showing off at the same time. "Here," the fire mage held out his hand to offer them to Windlock, who was currently tearing away at his robe. The slab of fabric sat in his hands and Soulfire dumped the stones on it, Windlock could feel the judgment through everyone's eyes as he ran out of the room while tying the fabric around the steaming minerals.
Out breath, Windlock finally made his way back to Inferno and he gently offered the homemade sack of hot rocks, "h-here." Edited at May 7, 2023 08:22 PM by Not Debbie

Inferno looked back down at the front of her cage, herring the rapid footsteps of the Wind Mage. She had learned to recognize the pattern of his footfall so that it no longer set her on edge whenever she heard him coming toward her. “Thank you.” She said softly, reaching her hand through the thick iron bars separating them and slowly taking the bag from him, careful not to let their hands touch. She could feel the heat radiating off of the stones that were cradled inside. She quickly unraveled the sloppily wrapped bandage around her leg and pressed a handful of the stones to the frozen part of her leg, unbothered by the glowing hot stones. She gritted her teeth at the flash of pain that came with the contact of the wound, but soon that faded as her leg became warmer, and she relaxed, breathing out a sigh of relief. The stones in her hand had grown cool, the heat sucked out of them by the cold temperature, so she laid those ones down and wrapped the remaining ones to her leg with the bandage, This time she bandaged her leg properly and neatly, not having to deal with her gaze swimming at the pain. When she finished, Inferno raised her head to stare the Wind Mage directly in the eye. “I heard you and your brothers fight, but I never caught your name, wind mage. In here, the noise from the arena is still there, a little muter if not as loud, but it'd muffled. You already know who I am, so it’s only fair if I know who you are.” She said, cocking her head to the side and she moved to the edge of her cage, curling her hands around the bars.

Windlock nodded then sat, watching Inferno unbundle what once used to be a part of his robe. His hands were still warm from holding the stones that now thawed out Inferno's leg. The wind mage smiled when the look of relief flooded her face, obviously meaning his little idea had worked. He continued watching Inferno tend to the wound and wrap it with the torn fabric, but he later found himself staring in her strikingly beautiful eyes once again.
Had he not introduced himself? What a surprise, but it was true. He indeed was having full blown conversations with her and she didn't even know his name. "I'm Windlock," he said, "should be pretty easy to remember, due to the fact I am a wind mage." The man grinned, "I am the youngest of my three other brothers, and that's basically it." "Windlock. Yeah, that'll be pretty easy to remember." Inferno allowed a small, genuine smile to appear on her face as she settled into a more comfortable position. "What can you do, exactly? Manipulate air pressure, summon blasts of winds, suck the air and oxygen from someone's lungs?" She was quite interested to know what he could do, and not just because they might have to face each other in the arena, but because she hadn't had a heart-to-heart talk with another living being for years. "I think I may have had an older sibling..." Inferno trailed off, trying to remember. "One or two, but I never got to know them."

She's smiling, Windlock felt like he accidentally accomplished an unintentional goal. It probably was one of his goals just he didn't know about it sitting in the back of his brain. He felt proud of his progress, and he felt a wave of pride rush through his body and it felt good.
Inferno asked another question and the wind mage happily answered, " I know I can do at least one of those things, though I might be able to control the air pressure and I don't know if I want to rip the oxygen out of someone's chest." He brushed his hair causally, "To be honest I have never thought about that," he admitted.
Soon enough though, she changed the topic to siblings. Inferno claimed to not know anything about her siblings, which made him wonder a bit, "I don't know what I would've done without my siblings, sure they get annoying but I still love them."

She chuckled. "Sorry, it's a force of habit. Here, our abilities are only seen as weapons, and my mind has molded around that thought." Inferno nodded. "I guess that's what the whole 'family first' thing means. Always having each other's backs and protecting one another." Her voice grew slightly longing. She always wanted to feel that bond between her and someone else, but never got the chance to. She didn't trust herself to not get the other creature killed. She had too many enemies, too many targets on her back here. "I've seen a few siblings fighting alongside one another, and they almost always win. I've done partner battles before, but it's nowhere near as efficient. I don't know the other fighter, so it takes a bit longer." A wandering thought flashed into her mind, one she grew quite curious about. "Why are you here? In the arena, I mean. I can tell your brothers are fit for it, but you just seem a bit too..." She trailed off, trying to find the right word for what she was trying to say.

Inferno's voice grew... almost sad, like she longed for a real family or maybe even just a loyal friend. It was clear she never had a real relationship with someone, nobody to help her if needed. "Well it is a silly little motto, but it is important," Windlock claimed, "and yes, it does makes a difference if you're close to someone or not."
I guess even merciless champions get lonely. A spark of curiosity enlightened Inderno's face, and she asked a question that even Windlock himself didn't even really know the answer to. "Small? Not beefy enough?" He finished her sentence, "Yea I know..." The mage fidgeted a bit, "honestly I don't really know why I am here." Edited at May 12, 2023 10:13 PM by Not Debbie

"No, no, you're too nice to be in a place like this. Kind." Inocent. Inferno hurried to say. "Even the smallest of creatures can be beasts if they have wits." She said. She sighed, rubbing the back of her neck with her hand. "I mean, you obviously can survive the arena just fine, coming out with only a couple of bruises..." Her eyes trailed along his exposed skin where familiar black and blues had begun to blossom. "But you seem to humane for this kind of thing. Like you wouldn't kill someone just for entertainment. Which is better than I can say for most of the creatures here, myself included."
