Kalen didn't move much as Janet slid forward to take a glance at the common area as well. But he followed her with his eyes, making sure the woman stayed safe. Oh how he would hate if anything happened to her. Even if they had just met, Kalen felt a sense of responsibility for the woman that probably wasn't going to be a healthy sense of responsibility going forward.

But that look that she gave him wasn't the kind of look that he enjoyed. Neither was her answer. He really didn't have a weapon or a blade. "Not on me, unfortunately," Kalen murmured softly. His switching coin daggers were still in his home. In his jacket pocket.

His senses switched into high alert as the sound of something hitting the floor echoed into the silence of the library. He threw his mind out quickly, testing to see if anything else... godly was there.

While he didn't immediately sense anything, he couldn't sense anything. Which was eerie. A thick swallow and hesitation was the first answer he gave to Janet's question about a plan. What was the plan? He didn't exactly have an idea.

There were several windows that he could see. "As much as I really don't want to be separated, if we both try and run for the doors, it's not going to end well. If there is something."

He was also planning on doing something likely... stupid. Actually very stupid, scratch the likely. But it involved his 'blessing' from his father. Another echoing noise was far louder and much more strange. It took him a moment to look and realize the bookshelves were being tipped over.

"Ah... okay... uhm... we need to move," Kalen grabbed Janet's hand and called on his blessing, letting the creamy white feathers unfurl about the same time that the ugly one-eyed beast towered over the distant shelves.

"A cyclops?" Kalen whispered in confusion. "But--nope, think later, do now."

He took to the air, searching for a safer place to land.

((Feel free to also move the creatures around!))

Janet visibly wilted at the fact that neither of them had a weapon, rendering them essentially defenseless. You’d think she’d have something in her bag, but no, she’d left her own sword at her dad’s house because there was no reason to bring the shifting pendant to work in her mind. She was mentally kicking herself over that now.

They were both quiet for a moment as she waited to see if Kalen had any ideas, taking the time to map out a few possible exit routes. Kalen was right when he pointed out that going to the doors wouldn’t end well, there was a dangerous amount of open space between them in the doors that could be fatal. There were a few windows that could be options as they were on the first floor of the building though, the only problem with that plan was the time it would take to unlatch and pull it open for them to climb out of.

Janet was pulled from her thoughts as a second sound reached them, her eyes widening in a mix of surprise and fear when she figured out the cause of the noise. They were getting flushed out of the shelves with the only other option being turned into a book pancake.

She did a double take though as Kalen grabbed her hand and grew wings-? She had quite a few questions about that, but those would have to wait as she was distracted by noticing a cyclops that was most likely the one who had pushed over the shelves.

“Kalen, Kalen what are you doing!?” Janet yelped as Kalen took off, taking her with him. She was practically clinging to Kalen’s hand for fear of being dropped and possibly injuring herself, when she looked over at the one-eyed monster.

It had seen them. It gestured towards the two of them, pointing them out and giving Janet the idea that it was probably directing the attention of any other monsters towards them. Which made sense, Cyclops were quite large and strong, but they weren’t the fastest so of course it wouldn’t be by itself.

“We've been spotted,” Janet fought the urge to yell, trying to keep as calm as possible and not move too much. “Do you think we could get out through a window?”

(Oof- I'm trying to think of what other creatures to throw in there, but my brain is lagging right now. :'))

Kalen had hoped to get through the windows. That was exactly what he was planning on doing but he couldn't see a window big enough to fit through easily. Not without some serious damage to himself. He felt like a trapped bird--probably looked like one too.

"Well, I'm hoping we can," Kalen admitted quickly, not bothering to keep quiet. It was, albeit, obvious where they were at this point in time. The beast below raised their singular eye and watched him flutter up onto the rafters.

The way it motioned gave him the feeling that they weren't alone in this endeavor. But why a Greek monster? That was the prevailing thought in his head. It wasn't a monster that was out-of-pantheon, it was a Greek being.

As... were the centaurs.

"Huh, so they didn't leave," he murmured under his breath. The same librarian patrons trotted on out, sporting the horse half that gave them their name. The good thing, considering the three beings below, was the fact that none of them could fly.

The bad thing was the fact that they couldn't fly. Which meant he couldn't out fly them and then shoot out the doors.

"Strategy," Kalen kept his eyes on a swivel, looking around quickly. "Okay, okay. Okay! Uhm yes."

He hesitated. "Right. Windows. Do you see any windows big enough to get through?" Kalen wasn't against throwing his shoulder against one and shattering the glass. "Or should we be on the ground instead?"

Even if they were, he was probably going to try and sweet-talk his way out. A few lies, a bit of flustered laughter, maybe try and slip in his abilities and uncanny ... gambling talent.

But if Janet could find a solution? Fantastic. Oh, that would make his day.

Janet steadied herself as he landed on a rafter, wobbling slightly for a moment before balancing correctly and looking down. Surprisingly, it didn’t bother her to do this as she thought it would, but that may be because she was focused on the main room beneath, looking for something heavy enough to break glass.

“What in Olympus-” she muttered, noticing the centaurs. Why would they be working with a cyclops- nevermind, she’d think about that later, she decided and stuffed the book she still had in her satchel.

Now that the cyclops’ friends were in full view with their hoved half, Janet had the feeling that even if they could have gotten out on foot before they’d surely be grabbed if they tried now. There was no way they could out run centaurs, so breaking a window was starting to sound wonderful.

“Um, I’m going to guess that running probably won’t go well. I think I saw a few larger windows towards the main entrance though. If you think you can grab one of the chairs from down there,” She motioned below at the common area and looked at Kalen. “You could use it to hit the window and it should shatter, then there would be enough space for you to get through, right?”

If that worked, then that would just leave her to figure out some way to distract or slow down the creatures while he broke the glass. As much as she hated the idea of having to fight something like a centaur, she’d throw a few of the table top lamps at their legs if she needed to.

Kalen did his best to steady Janet, one hand outstretched just in case. His own eyes were focused on the three, keeping track of their movements instead of looking around for an escape of any sort. He was less confused about the supposed partnership between the creatures and more confused as to why they were all up in arms.

"Running... yeah, probably won't end well," he agreed quietly, finally taking his eyes off of the monsters below and toward her. A chair or something large enough to break the window...?

The main doors looked like they might've been glass as well and considering the fact there was only one pair of main doors...

"But what about you?" Kalen asked, his eyes lifting up to look back at Janet. "I'm not leaving you to try and fight a cyclops and two centaurs. That's a death-wish right there."

If she didn't have a solid plan... well, he was sure planning something. Likely stupid. But Kalen wasn't exactly well known for good plans, just plans that had a tendency to work. One way or another.

However, he knew she didn't have a weapon and there wasn't much to use anyways. It looked like maybe his plan was going to be the one thing to do. As much as he knew it was going to probably hurt.

“Huh?” Janet blinked at Kalen in confusion for a moment, caught off guard that he didn’t want her down there. She shook off the feeling and spoke up again. “I’d be fine… I think- It’s a plan, not the best one I’ll admit, but it’s something and if I stay up here they might try to use me as bait or something to grab you.”

There was no way she’d let him get hurt if she could prevent it. She wouldn’t admit that she was attached quite yet, but it seemed that she might be getting a little too fond of him to simply let him dive head first into a risky situation without her trying to stop him.

Herself was another story, if it kept someone she cared about safe she’d take on just about anything in a heartbeat if that was the only choice.

Janet studied him for a moment, noticing that he’d tensed up like he was preparing to jump off the rafter and dive down towards the floor. She was starting to get the feeling that he was going to do something she wasn’t going to like very much.

“Whatever you’re thinking, don't.” She glared up at him. “Cause I'm willing to bet you’re probably thinking about going straight through the glass, which could end with either or both of us getting injured. You could slice a wing up and that could land us on the ground with you bleeding, not a good place to be right now.”

Kalen shook his head a couple times, scoffing softly. He was not going to let her throw herself in danger any time soon. The world could live without him. Her? Not likely at all. "It's a plan, yeah," he confirmed. "But is it the best one?"

No. But he didn't say that out loud, he let it be unsaid and implied. His eyes flicked toward the doors again, before she startled him out of his thoughts.

Whatever you're thinking, don't.

Those words were stark and obvious. He hadn't realized his planning was so blatantly obvious but then again, Janet seemed... more adept at figuring things out than others.

"I wouldn't slice a wing," Kalen replied idly. Mostly because he figured he'd hide them and just barrel through the glass like a human cannonball.

"But bleeding on the ground is not ideal, especially when y'know... demigod blood is a rather strong scent." Even to himself. Oh he hated bloody noses. It would be the only thing he smelled for days.

"We can't take them on, not without weapons," his voice lowered, barely over a murmur. "But I don't know what else to do. I don't think they'll listen to us just talking... or if they'll be kind enough to listen to us anyways."

Janet groaned, fighting the urge to facepalm as what he said actually made sense. Even if he had a point about them not being able to fight, that didn’t mean she had to like it.

“Fine, can we both agree that we have terrible plans at least?” she finally sighed, giving up when she realized that she can’t exactly stop him. “Because even if you don’t slice your feathers off, one of us is still going to be bleeding most likely. I have something that can help with the smell though if we need it.”

Janet pauses, her eyes lighting up with an idea as she studies the floor below. It wasn’t her favorite, but it should cause a large enough distraction that it would buy them some time to get the haphazard plan started. After all, there was plenty of paper and dry material inside the library.

“Hey Kallen, do you have matches or anything flammable?” She asked, glancing back up at him. She felt a little guilty about trying to set fire to the books, but there was a little bit of hope mixed in as well.

"I ... do not have anything that can create a fire on me," Kalen replied, mostly confused. He wasn't sure why but no, he didn't. He had a wad of cash from who-knows-where and his wallet. Which was about it. "But I'm used to bleeding, it tends to happen when being a mechanic and stuff."

More than once, he had smashed his fingers, sliced them open or just somehow ended up with various other injuries. He didn't entirely understand how a lot of them happened but they did.

His eyes flicked toward the doors once again, chewing internally on his cheek. Finally, he looked down again.

"Can we just talk?!" He shouted, startling himself with how loud it was. But at the least, he got the centaurs to stop circling and murmur amongst each other. Clearly they were the brains of the operation and the cyclops was just for the strength.

Poor guy.

Kalen frowned for a moment as he realized that he too was the brawn and not the brains of their own operation. What a lovely feeling.

The centaurs finally stepped back and gestured for the two to land in front of them with a short nod.

"... does that mean yes?" Kalen asked quietly. "I don't know centaur culture."

Janet sighed, no fire then. Apparently the two of them had just about nothing useful at the moment and were just down right lacking in the skills needed for making plans. The situation was looking pretty bleak if she was being honest, all they seemed to be doing was waiting for someone to make the first move whether it was hostile or, less likely, friendly.

So when Kalen yelled down to the mythical creatures about talking this out she nearly jumped out of her skin not expecting the noise. Settling back down she looked down to see the centaurs conversing, leaving the cyclops to do its own thing. How Janet wished she could just be like the one-eyed beast at the moment, thinking was hard.

Janet watched as the centaurs nodded for Kalen she assumed to come down. At this point she just decided to let it happen and just pray it will go safely.

She just shrugged in reply to Kalen’s question. “I have no idea, but it's your call. You’re the one with wings, just be careful okay?”
