Introduction

Something strange is happening in a small town in the north of Messien.
For years the land of Messian has been like any other; humans colonize places with good conditions; soil for farming, lakes and oceans for fishing, deer herds for game; humans have claimed it all.

But when humans went further north where only the rare summer day is warm they learned that they weren't the only creatures looking for homes.

The shifters had been running from the humans since the dawn of time; Wars had been waged between the creatures that could shift from human to animal and humans contentiously growing numbers.
The Humans always won; they had larger armies and smaller hearts; forcing the shifters to turn to a life of running and hiding.
When the shifters traveled north to a place where they thought humans would never follow; they never knew humans greed was stronger than their need for warmth and safety.

But when the shifters and the humans met on a cold winter day the humans accepted them.
Said that if the shifters protected them from the wild creatures and helped them hunt and gather they wouldn't hunt them down or tell other less accepting humans of their existence.
And so a peaceful town was created in the north with humans and shifters alike; each defending and helping the other in any way they could.
As the years passed the town stopped having two different peoples; they became one.

They named the town Fellborn; as fell was the old word for fur and the people wanted to honer the shifters and show them that they truly meant no harm.

Five years ago the shifters secret was spread to the other human colonies.
Some say a visiting merchant saw one of the younger shifters turn into their animal form; others think that a villager that wasn't fond of shifters told someone from another village; either way strangers are appearing saying they are here to cleanse the town of its curse.

Will you be able to protect the town, human and shifter alike, from these strangers?

Forum Rules

1. Follow Eve's rules.
2. I will give you three chances before kicking you, whether it be because of rudeness, inactivity, or failure to follow the rules.
3. Reservations will only last 48 hours, I will PM you when it ends.
4. I have the right to decline any sign ups, though I hope not to.

RP Rules

1. Cursing is allowed, but please keep it to a minimum.
2. This is a semi-lit to literate roleplay, I expect 5+ sentences at least. I will be watching post size.
5 sentences is about 100 words, which even with writers block isn't too hard to write, so please always try to keep it at 100 words or more.
3. This is an active roleplay as well, please be able to post at least three times a week. I will PM you if I notice inactivity without warning.
4. I decide when the days pass and what the weather is.
5. Hate the character, not the player.
6. PM me if you no longer wish to be in the RP, and we can figure something out.
7. Later in the RP the hunters/strangers will attack/capture or at least try too; these attacks may end in death if you wish it.
8. You can have your characters get hurt during random events, like falling and breaking something, or a sprained ankle.
9. Romance is of course allowed, but if anything serious happens
please skip through and keep it PG 13.
10. If your character gets in a fight make sure the other player is okay with this, especially if you plan on getting your character hurt/killing them off.
11. I also do expect proper spelling; small mistakes that happen every once in a while is okay, but it cant be every single post.

Plot

In the peacefull town of Fellborn the tensions are rising.
Fellborn isn't like any normal town; it has humans, yes.; but it also has shifters.

After something happened to reveal this towns secret humans from different towns, cities and colonies are appearing; each with the goal to rid Fellborn of its 'curse'.

These people were known as the Strangers; but now it seems Hunters is a much better name as they've started hunting the shifters.
Now every shifter has to keep their identity a secret; those that were in their human forms when the hunters arived can still shift when safe, but those that were animals? they're not so lucky.

The Hunters made every 'human' sign their name and if a new person appears without the proper badge of a Hunter or merchant they are deemed a shifter and imprisoned; so those that were in their animal form when the hunters arived better stay that way; or else they may just loose their life.

Can the people of Fellborn stop the Hunters and save the shifters or are they all doomed?

Messien

Messien is a large and long continent with deserts and jungles to the south and tundras and pine forests to the north with any kind of terrain in between.
But we're not going to travel the entire continent in this roleplay; we're staying in the small town of Fellborn which is a very small northern town.

Fellborn

Fellborn is the only known town with shifters living in it; the only known town to have shifters at all.
The terrain around Fellborn is quite diverse for its usually cold climate; the pine, oak and birch forests are filled with diverse plant and animal life, deer, squirrels, wolves, bears, elk, moose, foxes, ducks, geese, fish; any animal that can survive in cold climates makes its home in this land.
The forests are all to the south and east of Fellborn while the west has a large lake where the other sides are all but visible; to the north is a large hilly grassland that slowly turns to tundra and mountains.
Fellborn itself is built right on the coast of the lake which is creatively named The Fellborn Lake, which makes it a fishing village; though when it freezes over in the winters the large game herds are an amazing source of food and money.

Housing

The houses are all made of stone and wood, very few live in huts.
Some shifters may sleep outside at night in thier animal forms but this is dangerous if they aren't one of the hidden.
There isn't any guest housing so all the hunters have makeshift tents on the outskirts of Fellborn.

Seasons

Speaking of seasons, Fellborn is cold almost all year round; in the winters The Fellborn Lake freezes over and snow blankets the land till spring, snowstorms are very common at these times.
The spring season is slightly warmer; the snow melts soon enough and the lake thaws though you'd be smart to keep your jackets on and fires burning; especially at night.
The summer has a couple days where its warm enough to take off your fur cloaks and just wear simple shirts; but still the winds are cold and the rains a force to be reckoned with.
The fall carries on the summers rains and cold winds; though the rain can turn to hail and snow rather quickly.

Humans

Humans are as you can guess normal humans; but as this is a medieval RP there can't be any unnatural eye/hair colors, nor dyes and contacts.
Clothing is also mainly medieval, you can get creative with it of course and you don't have to follow the dress code of actual medieval times; but T-shirts, denim, sneakers and other stuff are not acceptable clothing.
We cannot start the roleplay without a couple humans; and I know they're not as interesting as shifters but they are an important part of the story.
Humans can be any age.

Shifters

Shifters have two forms, their human form which has the same rules as humans, no cat eyes or unnaturally colored eyes/hair.
The thing that makes shifters special is that they can turn into any ONE animal.
These cannot be mythical animals but other than that go wild; even though the story takes place in the cold north you can have a shifter that can turn into a fennec fox or parakeet though these would be less common.
And I'm saying this again but even if your character has one parent that can turn into a fox and another that can turn into a wolf they can only inherit one of these; there's no turning into two different animals.
Animals are also realistic; no colors that wouldn't belong to their species.
One thing I am allowing are things like lockets or braided in feathers as this would be a way to differentiate animal from shifter.
Shifters get their ability to shift when they turn 12; doesn't matter if they were born animal or human.
Domestic animals like cats and dogs are accepted but please note that specific breeds probably don't exist yet.
Shifters can be any age.

Mayor

The mayor is the leader of the townspeople; they make the major decisions and always have the final say.
They are most likely good friends with the shifter chief and are older than 25.
The mayor cannot be a shifter.

Chief

The Shifter chief is a shifter who was chosen as the leader of the shifters and they are probably close friends with the mayor.
They have to be a shifter obviously, but they can be younger as there is the possibility of the hunters finding the older chief and they voted on their child; but please no younger than 18.

Lead Hunter

The lead hunter is the leader of the hunters; kinda states that in the name.
The lead hunter is a human and can't have a dark secret of actually being a shifter.
They are in charge of the hunters and are most likely disliked by the towns people because they were the ones that started the hunts in the first place.
The leader should be 25 or older but I might make an exception.

Hunters

The hunters are of course human; they cannot be a secretive shifter.
These are trained fighters who most likely have a grudge against shifters or were forced into it by family... or just really want to hurt shifters.
Hunters can be any age.
And yes, a romance between hunter and shifter is allowed.

Towns people

Towns people are humans of any age with and without shifting abilities; most are game hunters, fishers, smiths, butchers, cooks, carpenters, seamstresses, farmers and any medieval job or occupation is open really, this is just something to add to their skills and hobbies. Shifters belong to the towns people as well, which means they have jobs just like everyone else; though they are more commonly the guards, scouts and hunters.
The people can be any age.

Hidden Shifters

Hidden shifters are the shifters that were in their animal form when the hunters first arrived, and as the hunters had every 'human' list their names and eye/hair color any new person without the badge of a Hunter or merchant is deemed a shifter and imprisoned/executed. Which means it would be smart to stay as an animal except in the most dire of circumstances.

Genetics

If your character has two shifter parents they inherited one of the parents forms; they don't get a completly random one and they do not get both.
If your character had one human and one shifter parent they have a 50/50 chance of inheriting the shifting powers or being human.

The first death

It was a cold winter day, the sky was colored in a pure white with a blinding glimmer of the sun trying to make its way through to the land blanketed in snow.
Though it was cold, the day was beautiful. The lake was frozen over and glimmered in the weak sunlight, yet no ice fishers were seen.
The village on the coast of this lake, Fellborn, was deathly still; almost like a ghosttown. There weren't any children playing in the snow, no parents and adults walking around, nor a group of hunters on their way to find the herds of deer and elk.

"This is the same fate that awaits any who harbors one of these beasts or is one themself!" a yell is heard in the distance, comming from the center of the town.

A crowd of people stand in the town square, old and young; infront of them is a crudly built stage, a woman kneels with her hands bound, tall old man towers over her, sword in hand.
"Thiw woman was seen turning into wild a beast, she is known as a shifter, monsters that should be eradicated" the tall man says.
"They are not human, they do not belong in this world, it is the hunters task to rid the world of these monsters, that is why I am here; why we are here" a group of armed people appear, surrounding the towns people; forcing them to watch what was soon to come.
"We will rid you of this curse" the man raises the sword.
"This is just the beginning. We will kill every single one of these beasts till there are no more left" and then he swung.

The snow started falling in droves, only taking minutes to turn into a storm, forcing the people into their homes; leaving the poor womans body to freeze.

That was five years ago; nothing has changed.
Shifters are found and killed for the crime of not being human.
The humans either risk their lives protecting them or save their lives by revealing the shifters.
The hunters leader died a year ago, and now a new one leads the true monsters.

Horace Umbra / M / 23 / Fisherman / Polar bear / Mentions: Daddy c;

“Unleash the net,” Horace spoke to his father, instinctively his father untied the net, letting it drop into the lake water. The canoe they were on was rocking wildly after Horace had stripped down to his pants. His cloak and tops were folded tightly in a drawer, making sure they wouldn’t get wet. He dove into the water, transforming into his polar bear form. He swiped at a large pod of salmon, letting them trap themselves in the net. Once ascending to the surface, he enjoyed the chilly water soaking his thick pelt. With a heavy sigh, Horace transformed back into his human form. He swam back to the canoe, trying not to rock it too much as he ascended onto its dry wooden surface. He gripped onto part of the net rope and tied it on one of the sides on the boat. He sharply exhaled, a cold chill running down his spine. Horace was naturally prone to cold, it didn’t really bother him that much. But diving into the water with just thin cloth pants had sent him to chatter his teeth.

“You bets be careful, son, I don’t want em hunters taking my last blood-born child down,” His father grabbed an ore, his muscles twinging as he pushed the canoe towards the pebbly shore. “I’ll be fine, dad. I don’t think any hunters were near the lake when we arrived,” Horace looked around, he couldn’t spot any humans. He felt a jolt as the canoe hit the rocky shore. Horace got out of the boat and stretched his spine while his back was still bare. “Put yer clothes back on before you catch a cold,” His father grunted, tossing his cloth shirt to him. Horace nodded as he slipped on his cloth shirt, then grabbed onto his cloak, letting it flush over his body, immediately warming him up. “I might not still be the last, Pa,” Horace looked to his father, who was holding back tears from his face. He felt so bad for his daughter, Laark and his wife, Wrine. At least they knew that Horace’s mother had passed on, yet Laark was still a mystery.

“Let’s take the fish back to the village,” Horace smiled warmly while he closed his eyes, opening them slowly. He looked at the scenery. It was stunning-to him at least. The lake was rippling with the sun bouncing it’s glorious rays off like a mirror. He exhaled, releasing a light, grey puffy cloud from his mouth. Horace and his father, which was 46, were both in good shape. They heaved the fish over their shoulders, sharing half on half as they walked towards the village. “The village is growing, we’re gonna need a biggah boat,” His father said in a raspy voice, spitting out a large number of liquids. “You go arrange meals with the bakers, then could ya do a favor for me and talk to the mayor about our situation? I’m exhausted for the day,” His father sighed as he looked to Horace. I wish we could shift into our bear forms for this. It’d be so much easier. Horace read what his father was thinking. “It’ll all be over soon, dad,” Horace smiled with a soft voice before raising his left hand to ruffle his hair, even more, his right hand was gripped tightly on the netting. “We’re almost there, I can see the village peaks,” Horace said reassuringly to his father, who was already panting.

Salem Grace - Female - 19 - Scout - mentions: None
Salem looked around the woods, all the pine trees sappy and their branches swaying and rocking as the wind racked through their needles. Her icy eyes flitting from one pine needle to the next as they came falling around her in a gentle glide down, like a skydiver in their parachute. Her cloak rapidly and violently whipping behind her in the wind reminded her of how much she wished she was inside eating a biscuit or lounging placidly next to the cozy fireplace.
The stones beneath her boots put pressure in different quantities as each step had landed and risen again to be pressed again. She looked down at the stones on the ground, small and annoying, kinda like people but worse because they touch her. She looked up to the branches above as they continued to rattle and rack each other until the needles fell.
The sun behind the latticework of pines was blinding and yet the air still chilled her to the bone, like taking a swan dive into the arctic waters of the tundra. The bright beams that shone through the curtain of needles had made a small streaky pattern on her face and warmth soon bubbled onto her face and the now pink colored nose.
She was freezing even with her whole set of gear on, her gloves even still let her fingers go numb, bummer too because they weren't cheap...
Salem looked back towards the ground and started to search for bones and other materials to carve, and soon came to find herself carving and shaving away at a small chunk of bone. Shaving and carving into a circular shape with a hole in the middle. Her hair was rushing at her eyes violently and she eventually put on her large hood, even still, the fur was an annoyance too.

Nalaea Leogwyn - Female - 22 - Hidden Shifter/Horse Breeder - White Panther - mentions: Horace, his father, Open.

The soft crunching of the grass beneath her paws was one of the few sounds the young woman could hear as she paced along the tree line just outside of the village limits. Nala had been closer to the lake than the town. She had been out of town with a couple of the horses from the farm to sell when the list had been made of those that lived in the town. All that she knew is that her brothers had tried but weren’t able to vouch for the woman without her own signature. A soft growl left her chest at the anger building within at being forced to hide away from her home. Stopping, she laid down with her head resting on her paws and flicking her tail in annoyance.

Her coat had thickened in preparation for the coming winter though with little snow and ice on the ground, she still had to hide away in the shadows until her coat would better melt into the background. Thankfully she could sneak into the stable since her farm was on the farthest edge of the town and with the cover of night, she would make her way over there to shift and work out with her brothers what they needed to do with the horses that were newborns or yearlings and two year olds ready to start under saddle and be sold. Nala would also take the time to stop and visit her mother whose health seemed to deteriorate more with each passing day.

Her ears flattened against her head to make her appear smaller whenever she would hear footsteps. Nala stood up careful to not make any noise and leapt up into the tree resting on the branch keeping her eyes on the ground below holding her breath seeing a couple of males carrying what looked to be nets full of something below.

The familiar scent of fish filled her nostrils and she carefuly climbed down from her perch to follow the pair staying to the shadows of the trees. She picked up a slow trot to get ahead of the duo and stepped out into the light letting it shine against her stark white fur. Her blue eyes carefully watching the movements of the men as she moved into a sitting position wrapping her tail around herself. Nala lazily motioned towards the nets with her nose before she stood crouching low preparing to pounce if she needed to.

Nala knew many of those in the village and was thankful for the pair to be from the village and not the hunters that had so rudely moved in claiming to be helping them eradicate the shifters. She took a tentative step towards them shifting her eyes from one to the other. Please may I have just a couple of the fish? I promise to be a good panther and leave you alone after that. Had she really resorted to either begging for food?
