Yellowstone

Keeping a brand new pack afloat is no easy thing- there's never enough wolves to take down a good meal and protecting pups from rivals is arduous. The Mammoth Creek pack was formed by a mating pair a year ago in the far Northwest of the park. They managed to raise a few pups to yearlings and now have a new litter that's almost a month old. The pack is lucky that there isn't much in the way of threats to their pups; not even coyotes tend to stray into this area. Only trouble is faced from the nearby wolf packs, particularly 8 Mile and black bears, which of course are nowhere near as hard to fight off as the grizzly.

1. Your character needs to be realistic in most aspects. Wolves will not be capable of sign language, writing in dirt or building elaborate structures. Please try to make your character act more animalistic than human.
2. Wolves die from old age at 10 years old.
3. This roleplay is semi-literate to literate, you are required to write a minimum of two paragraphs per post, and are absolutely expected to write more. One sentence replies will not be accepted. If you cannot meet this standard, don't sign up; or take a break from the rp until you can.
4. Please read the guides I provide to help create a more accurate wolf.
5. A month in roleplay passes every IRL week, therefore a year lasts 12 weeks. Don't worry! You don't have to accurately roleplay the aging process for your wolf or anything.
6. Please try to post at least two or three times a week.
7. Hate the character, not the player.
8. Please ask permission before injuring or killing another character.
9. When posting, please use the format "Name | Mentions:" or something similar as a header.

Please do not post on this forum if you are not accepted into this roleplay.

The Mammoth Creek pack is based in the area from the North entrance to the park to Mammoth Springs, and westward from there. The territory is rather small as it is a rather new pack, and it is yet to expand very far past the park boundary.

In terms of prey, Mammoth Creek wolves mainly hunt pronghorn, considering the average wolf's main prey of elk not being in this area outside of Autumn. A variety of small critter species are available to the Mammoth Creek wolves, however they do not make a good, filling meal. There are seasonal variances in the prey these wolves can hunt, however they need to remain wary if straying into other pack's territories.

Rashida | Alpha | She/Her | M: Sunuka (dir.), Everyone (indir.)

It feels like Spring is coming late this year. Though, if you asked the mud-colored she-wolf, Spring comes late every year.

She's absolutely sick of her pelt being saturated with all this water. Mud clings to her pelt like burrs to a bison, working its way down to her bone and leaving her in a miserable and irritated mood. Luckily, today seems drier, but the overcast skies prevent the grass from drying as much as she'd like. And oh, how she hates the morning dew. She'd do anything just to feel the sun on her back for one evening.

The she-wolf is settled at the entrance of the den, observing her youngest wobble around with an unwavering gaze. There's only one this year... Rashida did her best, but for some reason, only this one made it long enough to find her paws. She's still too wary to grow deeply attached to the little puffball, worried she may turn out like her littermates, but that doesn't mean Rashida isn't keeping Sunuka within the safety of her mother's shadow at all times. On the bright side... at least there's only one pup for her and her mate to care for.

"Sunuka, don't wander too close to that bush, you'll get poked," Rashida calls gently as she sees her youngest rolling around a bit too close to some brambles. She knows Sunuka is a good pup who listens well, so she isn't worried enough to stand and redirect her. Rashida only waves her tail a little, hoping that distracts Sunuka and entices her to wrestle with it, or something. That's how Rashida occupied her eldest children when they were her age.

Speaking of... where are those older children of hers? Rashida's been so focused on the tiny pup, that she forgot to keep tabs on her gangly teens. She glances up around the densite, searching the treeline for them or her mate. Laika might be out training them, maybe. Perhaps a small hunting trip? It'd be nice to get something for her to chew on, maybe she can give Sunuka a small nibble. Her weaning efforts have been yielding mixed results lately, but that's to be expected at the start of the process.

She debates calling, but that'd be foolish with just her alone at the den and taking care of a young pup. So instead she finally stands, sauntering over to lick some dirt off of Sunuka's pelt and try to see if she can see or hear anything from a different vantage point.

Ehcik | Yearling | He/Him | M: Sunuka, Rashida, Everyone (ind.)

Ehcik lay under the shelter of some brambles, his thinner frame barely noticeable among the tangled branches and leaves.

The morning dew clung stubbornly to the foliage above, occasionally releasing droplets that fell onto his fur, sending shivers through his body and stoking a growing sense of irritation. Each cold drop felt like a tiny shock, breaking the fragile calm he tried to maintain. His patience, usually so steadfast, was wearing thin as he tried to find comfort in his damp resting spot.

His ears twitched at the sound of his little sister, Sunuka, wandering nearby. Her wide-eyed gaze at the world brought a faint smile to his muzzle, despite his current discomfort. Ehcik peered through the brambles, watching as she padded around and discovered, her curious energy a stark contrast to his own restless state. Sunuka's wonder made him think of his early puppy days. His mothers scolding made him giggle as she wandered too close to his resting place.

With a huff, Ehcik shifted slightly, also shaking the bush as he tried to find a position that would shield him better from the relentless dew. He considered joining Sunuka, her awe and innocence tempting him away from his brooding. The thought of playing with her and feeling the warmth of family connection was appealing. However, the dew's persistent chill kept him in place, his desire for solitude outweighing his urge to join in the fun. He might join her later, as he'd begun to form a particular fondness of his younger sister.

But for now, he remained in his shelter, his body coiled in a mix of tension from the cool dew but also some relaxation, eyes tracking Sunuka's every move. He hoped the sun would soon rise high enough to dry the morning's dampness and bring warmth to their home, allowing him to emerge from his hiding place and join his sister in her innocent play. Until then, he endured the dew's cold embrace, his thoughts a mix of annoyance and affection as he watched over his beloved little sister.

Sunuka | Pup | She/Her | M: Rashida (direct), Ehcik, everyone (indirect)

Playing amongst the damp foliage and budding blossoms was a young pup, no more than a month old. Sunuka. The only current survivor of this year's litter. It was quite ironic that she was the one to outlive her littermates, considering she was born the smallest of the bunch. Then again, Sunuka did show some remarkable spirit for a wee thing like herself. She was the first to nurse, the first to open her eyes, the first to rise to her paws and find balance...and, ultimately, the only one to do so. Hopefully the pup would last long enough to grow into a fine huntress like her parents.

Her squeaks and noises of delight permeated the brisk air as she scampered over to a shrub of particular interest. The overcast and chilly weather didn't deter her curiosity. There was stuff to explore! So much to see, and do, and smell, and feel. Even the most mundane of things, like the musky scent of the earth after rain, or the flittering of leaves in the wind enraptured the young pup. Sunuka was in the prime of her puphood, blissfully oblivious to the hazards of the wilderness and the ever-looming threat of a merciless demise. It was all play, learn, sleep, repeat.

Eyes alight with wonder, Sunuka watched as a butterfly landed on a nearby clump of sagebrush. She cocked her head to the side and studied the tiny creature with intrigue. The way it gently flapped its wings was enchanting to her. It was so beautiful, so peaceful, but also so fragile. She leaned forward to sniff it, only for the butterfly to get startled and flutter away. A sad huff escaped the pup.

She then noticed Ehcik a few yards away. She was going to approach him to engage in play, only to hear a firm bark warning her to not get too close to the bushes. Rashida. At her mother's command, her ears perked up.

"Sorry, mama!" Sunuka yipped, her youthful features morphing into a sheepish pout as she teetered back over to her mother. The fallow furred pup plopped down on her fuzzy haunches, gazing up at Rashida with expectant, milky blue eyes. Occasionally, she would peer over her shoulder at her older brother. She couldn't help but wonder where the others were.
