Personally I’m getting into gouache which is kinda like a mix between watercolors and acrylic paints so if you want something that can kinda act like both I recommend that also I agree with Xeno, drawing from observation is the main part of getting better. And what I do is I try to see things in shapes like spheres, cylinders, etc. just to help get the basic breakdown of complex creatures into a more simple form.
