Second chapter of my pack's lore! This was a bit fast lol
Syrent layed the squirrel in the hole gently before kicking dirt over it. Her legs were strong and able to propel her across land like a cheetah. She pats the dirt down so sneaky little scavengers won't get eager before walking back to the settlement. She slips through the tangle of ferns. Syrent sometimes felt out of place here. She knew everyone. She had her daughter and her cousin. She had Miss Nectarine, whom she saw as a sister. Well, sometimes.
Syrent silently pushed her way down into the dead tree stump. It was hollow and smelled woody. Her tail curled over her back paws.
It had been a while now ever since Miss Nectarine came back from her star walk. Syrent remembered the fire in the she-wolf's eyes. The massacre that followed. She was always a battle hardened wolf, but to slaughter half a pack was unbelievable. Boel helped hide the bodies and lick away the blood from everyone's fur. That was the sickening part. To taste someone's blood in the act of cleaning just seconds after violence. Syrent believed in the God, Jupiter, yes. But never had the supernatural being ordered anyone in history to commit wolfslaughter. Miss Nectarine was always a bit unstable and everyone knew that. She was plauged by the spirit; growling about them everyday, snapping at unsuspecting pack members just trying to carry out their usual day-to-day jobs, making half of every conversation about the red-eyed, stardusted soul. It was a wonder how Boel put up with Miss Nectarine long enough to have a daughter with her.
Poor Tabbris, Syrent thought, I feel so bad for her.....her mother is such a troubled one
That got Syrent thinking about her OWN daughter, Eae. Eae was still young at the moment and wasn't that fluent in speech yet. But she and Tabbris had a close relationship. Tabbris was a wanderer. She was very stubborn and intelligent like her mother. What worried some was Tabbris possibly repeating Miss Nectarine's history. That possible scenario nipped at Syrent's dreams often.
She lifted her head and pinched the top rain cover between her teeth. She pulled it down to reveal the stars. There was no moon tonight. Hopefully her prayers and worries could be heard.
Jupiter, Syrent addressed in her head. She listened quietly. Crickets chirped, Valentin's awful snoring could be heard, Eae was probably at Tabbris's side like usual.
Syrent went over her day in her head; hunting, sun bathing, feeding Eae, watching Boel look worried like always, and just playing her part as a dominion. She didn't care for the titles. She never will. After thanking Jupiter for listening to her day, she prays for good bringings tomorrow.
The back of Syrent's head whispers worries. All the worst case scnerios clawed at her brain like feral cats. She buried her face into the ground and hit her forehead softly a couple of times. Then a hard one. She tried to focus more on the pain than the worrisome thoughts.
Please PLEASE. Jupiter, I beg of you. Rid me of these thoughts.
Maybe the god couldn't hear her. Or maybe it was simply toying with the pack.
Don't think like that. Syrent's thoughts hardened. Jupiter was NOT toying. In every story, every tale, every spiritteller's words, Jupiter was a caalm and peaceful spirit. But what made Miss Nectarine slaughter half a pack?
Syrent didn't want to think about it at the moment. She closed her eyes. Syrent expected another gross memory that usually played before slumber. Surpringly, she only saw black.
