Gohan

Gohan's story is rather sad.
Gohan was originally my brother's cat. He was given to him by someone who wasn't a very good person and Gohan was kept in a house and was breathing, let's just say extremely dangerous air. My brother is a wonderful father now and is totally sober! Woohoo! Anyways, Gohan was a very active, funny and friendly cat. He was unafraid of people, dogs or anything else he came in contact with. Truly is a confident cat. When Gohan was between 1-2, I can't quite remember, my brother came to my parents house far away and brought him with for Christmas since he would be staying a long time. He was kept in a room away from my mother's dogs because they are not friendly with cats. On Christmas morning, Gohan got out and ran outside. Unfortunately he was chased down by her dogs and we jumped in and thankfully saved his life. Gohan was rushed to an emergency vet to get immediate surgery. He stayed there for a few days and I picked him up from the vet. When he got into my car I noticed a pungent disgusting smell. Kind of like rotting flesh. I went back in and asked them why he smelled like that and they said it was just the drain that they had put into his stomach to help. That was not true. They somehow totally missed the largest gash on his lower back on the left side. I rushed him back to the vet when I had realized and they said his skin was literally rotting off his body and he needed a skin graph, but they were not able to do that and recommended putting him down. My family decided to drive him five hours to a specialist and they were able to successfully perform the skin graph! However, it caused him to have quadricep lockdown in his back left leg. If you don't know what that is, it basically means his muscles totally stopped working. He couldn't bend his knee or paw, but could use his hip. Gohan lost all muscle mass in his leg, but still tried to use it. Which was causing rug burn on the top of his paw. At this point, my brother had just left Gohan with me and didn't want him anymore because he was too difficult to take care of. I decided to take Gohan to the original vet and demanded them amputate his leg for free because it was their fault, and I had understood he'd never use it properly again. Gohan came to me during the most difficult and terribly sad period in my life, and in his too, considering he was abandoned and going through a seriously painful recovery and a traumatic event. I'm my opinion, we saved each other. This cat is so extremely attached to me, and I to him. It's really hard to say but he is my favorite pet. I love the rest of my animals equally, but I have a bond with this cat that I don't believe is very common and I don't think I'll ever have again. A few years ago I woke up to Gohan being unable to walk and eat or drink or use his litter box, I rushed him to an emergency vet and they did xrays. They pumped him full of steroids and pain medication and thankfully he went back to normal. However, they disclosed to me that his lower back and his pelvis are beginning to mineralize. They explained that there is a very real possibility that he might wake up paralyzed and and he'd need to go under emergency spinal surgery, that he may not survive, and if he did it's a huge chance he'd not be able to walk ever again. Gohans personality is... Unique... He is very particular and wants what he wants. You can only pet him from his head, chin, chest and shoulder blades. The rest of his body is very very sensitive and it hurts to pet him. He will attack you if you do. He will also attack you if you put your face in his face, or pick him up if you're not me. He loves it for me to pick him up though, and doesn't mind me to put my face in his and give him kisses. He really does not like men and will go out of his way to let them know that, by standing in the way of hallways and refuse to let them walk by him. He sometimes gets into bad moods and just doesn't want to be messed with or touched, which is totally fair. But Gohan is the most sweet, cuddly and amazing cat ever. He loves to sleep under the blanket and wants to be in the same room with me no matter what room I am in. He is very playful and, though it took a year, has decided he loves my dog and cuddles with him all the time and rub up against him. He loves fish flavored food the most, and I often give him the skins of salmon and sometimes some chicken if it doesn't have anything toxic on it. Every day when I come home he is sitting at the door waiting for me, meows and demands to be picked up and loved on. Even if I leave for 10 minutes and come back he's waiting at the door. He makes the best biscuits and has the loudest purr. Gohan is truly a special cat and you'd have to meet him to understand exactly why I feel that way. Words don't do him justice.
