I think I found it! Does "Moonrunner" by Mark Thomason sound familiar? It fits the description almost perfectly. If not, I’ll keep looking!
To be honest, the author sounds familiar so this might be it! I'll have to get my hands on the book and find out! Thank you!

You can probably find a summary of it on a book review website if you search the title and author, if you want to check before searching for a physical copy.

Help! I don't know what to read next! What are you interested in? For the longest time I've been looking for a fantasy book (with dragons or some other tameable mythical creature) and LGBTQ+ main chracters (ideally nonbinary and/or wlw but thats pretty specific). The closest thing I've found is "The Abyss Surrounds Us" and I loved that. Thanks for doing this! Can't wait to hear your suggestions! (:

(: Here are some books you might be interested in: - Mooncakes (Suzanne Walker and Wendy Xu) - Sorcerous Rivalry (Kayleigh Nicol) - Dreadnought: Nemesis (April Daniels) - Mask of Shadows (Linsey Miller) - Deep Blue (Jennifer Donnelley) - Jeremy Thatcher, Dragon Hatcher (Bruce Coville) - An Assassin's Guide to Love and Treason (Virginia Boecker) - Fablehaven Series (Brandon Mull) A few of these are a bit of a stretch (hence why there are so many options), since it was hard to find books that covered both mythical creatures and LGBTQ+ representation. Hopefully at least one of these interests you though! Out of all of them, Mooncakes is probably the closest to your request. A couple of them do have LGBTQ+ main characters, but they aren’t fully out until closer to the end. Feel free to PM me if you want the reasoning behind each of these being on the list. Or if none of them interest you, letme know and I'll keep looking. ^^ Edited at September 5, 2021 09:46 PM by Evergreen

I just found a pretty long list of LGBTQ+ books of different genres, if anyone's interested in those! @Acid Reign, I haven’t looked at all of the books on the list mentioned above, but most of them are fantasy, so I’ll see if I can find any of them that fit your request above.

For anyone interested, The Wheel of Time seems to be a fantasy series similar to Lord of the Rings and some people seem to compare it to a D&D campaign. It's written by Robert Jordan.
