Thoughts On The Other Clans:
Boring. Yawn. Not interested. They’re either too stupid or annoyingly bright. Either way, he takes no interest in their squabbling and believes that they should be chased away from the trench without a second thought. They started this mess, so they can solve it themselves. The voices tell him that any mingling into their conflict will spell doom to his own tribe. And he couldn’t agree more.
Appearance:
Qazir is not the largest of Kothes, but not entirely miniscule either. His upper body carries quite an interesting build. At first, he appears quite frail and rather boney – which is especially noticeable around his shoulders, neck, hands, and upper chest. His bones seem to protrude from every possible angle, leaving themselves on full display, if not for the skin covering them. Whether it is an improper diet is simply his age causing this, no one really knows. Most believe it to be the diet. However, his arms and abdomen speak a vastly different story. Here, muscle is quite pronounced and well developed. It is not unusually thick when compared to the rest of his body, but strong nonetheless. He’s even got some solid abs! Though, no one knows how he managed to keep up this image. Extending from his “spindly” hands are incredibly long claws, sharper than the feet of a viperfish and much more sturdy. It’s a wonder he doesn’t cut everything he touches with how piercing they are. Between the fingers are large “wabs” of webbing – dark sea-green in complexion. Among the dark color dances some bioluminescent swirls, dull blue in color when not glowing and a bright blue when shining (like that depicted on an angler fish’s lure). The rest of his body – aside from other bioluminescent marks – takes on a dark blue tone that’s just a tad lighter than the color of his watery surroundings. Speaking of the rest of his bioluminescent marks, they form swirl-like patterns along his back, shoulders, and waist line. They start as two separate entities around his shoulders – twisting around their fronts before squirming their way to his back. There, they slithers together and then apart like the movement of a snake. They only touch around the middle of his back, joining up just below his shoulder blades. It is highly debated on whether or not they switch sides or simply touch and go back to their original path. The Shaman refuses to say. Along their trip, many smaller swirls are seen to branch off from the main swirls – like the extensions of a vine. Finally, these markings end their trip around his hips – coming to curl around from his back and highlight the area where his hips and tail meet, and ending just above where the bones of his pelvis would have been. Though, it is here that they create their own unique patterns. The markings on his right side incline slowly, curling in on itself but not touching. That on the left side, however, does the opposite – coming in at a steep incline and curling downwards into itself. Once again, not touching the rest of the lines. All of these bioluminescent swirls glow a somber and dark, seaweed green when not dull. Starting towards the lower end of his spin is a dorsal fin, akin to that of a male orca’s. It ends part way down his tail – getting nowhere near the midway point but not stopping upon the tail’s entrance. This fin carries some bioluminescent twists-and-turns too, but they are much smaller than those on the rest of his form. A large chunk of flesh is missing from this fin, though. As though a large shark had taken a piece out of him. More shark-like bites can be found along his sides and arms. But, the biggest of them is a large bite on his left shoulder – turning his skin in a slightly lighter tone of grayish-blue. Just below his ribs lie his gills, which are rather large in length. They ironically mimic those of a shark, and form three “slices” along both of his sides.

The dark blue male has some… interesting facial features, to say the absolute least. His face is heart shaped and has a decently strong jawline. Nothing like that of most charming men, but still present. The forming wrinkles don’t allow for that anymore. It ends with a rather pronounced chin that shows a decent amount of strength in its form. Following after his chin and running along his jawline is a thick, medium length facial beard topped with a long mustache that ends at the same time his beard does. In other words, a “bandholz” facial hair with an exaggerated mustache (and without sideburns). The hair on his head can only be found along the side, forming a sort of crown-like circle across it. It is somewhat short in length as well, but can grow to a considerable length. The top of his head is completely void of hair follicles, showing off that “beautiful” blue skin of his. The eyebrows of this man are large and shaggy, and quite expressive. If they were connected, it would honestly look as though he had a second mustache over his eyes. All of this hair is dark gray on coloration, like that of charcoal dust. On the topic of eyes, his are of an interesting shade – being a mix of dark and bright colors. The sclera of his eyes are pitch black like those of his fellow Kothes, as are his slitted pupils – sharp a needle and constantly constricted like those of a hunting feline. These only exemplify his turquoise irises, making them as striking as they are cold. Within his mouth reside sharp, needle-like teeth – comparable to those of an angler fish. But much thicker. Their sizes are all over the place, having no symmetry whatsoever. One of the longer bottom teeth has a habit of protruding out from behind his lips, particularly when he is scowling… which is essentially his resting face. Pointed ears rest upon the sides of his head and are as sharp as the rest of him. The only bioluminescent markings found on his head wrap around his head like a crown – just below his hairline. They form a pattern like that around his hips, just mirrored. The left swirl now curls up while the right curls down. Both end above the middle of his eyes. They – like the other marks – glow a dark, seaweed green.

The Shaman’s tail is much smaller than most of this kind. It’s only around 7 feet in length, despite its long and skinny nature (not including the fluke of course). It is quite odd how his tail manages to be long yet smaller than those of others, but it somehow works. Though, while skinny, it still holds that infamous Kothes strength. For reasons unbeknownst to most of his kind, his tail happens to slant slightly to the side. Sort of like the crooked tail of a wolf, but not as severe. The fluke of his tail takes after those of whales… if the whale tail in quest has been hit with a boat rudder ten times over. Many cuts and notches are located in his fluke, none of which have any distinct shape. Following the path of his slightly twisted spine are short and curved spines that are black in color. They are spaces rather close together and are as battered as the rest of his tail – with many having a number of chips missing while others are completely broken off. Between the spines returns the webbing that resides on his hands, still retaining that dark sea-green shade. Swirls of bioluminescent blue have also found their way here as well. The color formation of his tail follows the pattern of orcas. It is mostly black in color, and the “white” portions have been replaced with the bioluminescent dark, seaweed green found elsewhere on his form.

Qazir doesn’t do much for jewelry. He sees it as needless tainting of his form, and believes that too much will bring him bad luck. Though, he is okay with… some decor. A golden arm brace around his left wrist with a select few aquamarines. A headband of sorts, made from entwined seaweed and bronze with numerous metal “spikes.” And a necklace holding the tooth of the tiger shark responsible for the scar on his left shoulder (his most prized possession). Rarely anything more though. Can’t have himself be viewed as greedy, now can he?

The dark male’s voice takes on what most would call a “grumpy grandpa” sound. It is scratchy and is medium in pitch, if not a little on the high end. It radiates a sort of eeriness whenever he speaks, never sticking to the same tone but always emanating what his soul feels – his window. Can you hear the dancing insanity within his tone? The constantly shifting emotions encapsulating his words? If you don’t, you’ll want to check your social skills. If not your hearing. Only the deaf can miss the way his words shake about. What gives off even more “grandpa” vibes is his heavy southern accent. “Ya,” “ta,” “goin’,” “whippersnappers,” and anything else along those lines are all in his vocabulary. At times, this accent can make him hard to understand. Then again, the emotion (or emotions) that he holds during that time are enough to spell it all.

To say that Qazir is out of his gourd is a complete and utter understatement. He is absolutely crazy – strange, all over the place, and sometimes irrational and impulsive behaviors (which are never harmful, just incredibly unexpected). He cannot keep a straight thought for extended periods, being rather easy to distract. The constant voices he hears mumbling inside his own skull don’t help in this matter either, causing him to lose track of what he was thinking about and focus on their words. Though, their ramblings are not as random as they may first sound. While quite distracting, the voices do provide him with noteworthy information each and every time they speak. Words of advice, tips on what medicines to use in order to heal another, “predictions,” and even the occasional short conversation. The only issue is, he has issues deciphering which voices are real and which are not. Either way, he typically responds to them verbally, treating them as though they were just another Kothes hovering beside him the entire time. This makes him look completely insane every single time (and there is no doubt that he truly is), but most just chalk it up to his connection to the gods.

This Shaman is extremely temperamental. Every once in a while, he will go through some pretty intense mood swings – similar to those seen in pop media. He can go from being proud of someone in one moment to being the most disappointed in them for some trivial reason in the next. Or, going from intense happiness to boiling anger. There is no telling how he will react to something in any one given moment, as he has even reacted poorly to things he claims to enjoy. The timing of these mood swings vary within no consistent pattern. They can happen each and every day of one week, and then every day or so of another. He is completely unpredictable. When not experiencing these intense mood swings, he is known for being an all out grump. He acts consistently annoyed for no reason, and always carrying a scowl on his face – as though it had been stitched onto his form. He is very irritable during this time, so it would be advised that no youngsters mess with him… unless it’s a harmless prank, in which he is quite fond of the fun.

As is the given considering his job, the dark blue man is very spiritual. He, like the others of his tribe, believes that he has constant communication with the gods of their tribe. This has been manifested in the form of the constant voices that he hears, which have been around him for as long as he can remember. He devotes a lot of his life to studying the stories of them, trying his best to retain every possible ounce of information that comes from them. As well as the lessons and “laws” that come with them. His spirituality has also granted him rather superstitious beliefs – mainly from the aforementioned lessons and laws. Wear too much jewelry? You’re greedy and will have everything taken from you. Disgrace a certain area? You’ll have horrible luck for the rest of your life. Eat a specific type of plant, and you’ll be cursed for all eternity. Those sort of things.

Probably one of the worst traits one could find in what is meant to be a healer – apathy – holds quite a dominant presence in the old man’s mind. He shows a great lack of empathy for those in need of aid, not caring one way or another what becomes of them. Even some of his family members have received this type of treatment. The crying, whining, squealing, and pleading is all annoying to him, and is rather distracting. It’s hard enough for him to focus with all the voices jingling in his head, and now he has to listen to his patients squabbling? Yeah, he’s not about that. This hardened and somewhat cold response to these sorts of responses has caused many to see him as being rather aloof – being quite distant from the normal reaction to sorrow and pain. However, that is not to say that he won’t heal someone. That is part of his job after all. But he won’t stand for anyone crying, whining, or complaining. It’s completely unnecessary, no matter the amount of pain they are in. He’s the Shaman for a reason. Either place your trust in his skills or get out. He has no patience for weaklings. Though, it should be noted that this apathy can have him moving at a slug’s pace to get to someone – so it’s best to show him how dire the situation is rather than yell to him about it.

With those he is somewhat close with, Qazir can end up being quite the mischievous fellow (on good days). He loves pulling harmless pranks – such as putting a rather nasty tasting plant or meat into one’s meat, or making some rancid concoction with his alchemy skills – on friends that can get them riled up. Not that he constantly aims to stir up trouble, but he does love a good dose of utter chaos every once in a while. Having pranks pulled on him (again, on a good day) is no big deal either. He finds it all fun is games, as long as his work isn’t too disturbed. It is one of the few things that can get him out of his constantly-grumpy deminor. But, he’s not stupid enough to create any sort of issues for the Sovereign and the rest of the higher ups. None of his stunts will reach their “doorstep”... on purpose.

Despite his insanity, the whale-like Kothes actually holds a good amount of intelligence. He knows a lot about the ecosystem in and around the trench his people call home, having studied the ways of numerous plants and animals – memorizing their locations, behaviors, and more. He has observed the effects of different types of poison and venom each species has, learning exactly what they target and how to counteract them. He also knows about their various possible uses thanks to the type of chemical or chemicals they possess, as well as which specific ones to mix in order to receive a certain end result. Though, he has not really bothered to label any of the new ones. However, his favorite thing to do with his knowledge of these chemicals is experimenting with different combinations. Seeing how they react, what they create, and what effects they have. But he always warns the user that what they are about to take is experimental. If the one taking it is not himself, anyway. His thoughts in the creation of these concoctions are always seemingly random and “out of the box.” Then again, going outside the box sums up his entire thought process as a whole but that is besides the point. He has managed to somehow create new remedies with previously “untouchable” or dangerous combinations, just by adding another component that one never thought of without any confounded knowledge. This is not always the case, of course, but it has happened. But hey, it’s not like anything can blow up in his face. Right?

Qazir is an absolute workaholic. It is in his blood. In his veins. Almost every hour of every day, he will be found working on some sort of project – whether necessary or just for fun. Most of them are honestly a mix of both. He desires hard tasks. Long, grueling hours of healing or studing the stories of his people. As long as contributes something to his people, he will be content in the fact that he worked hard. To live is to work, and to work is to live. That’s his motto. He will absolutely wear himself thin just because of his desire to keep at something. This has led to him making “remedies” that make people tired, just so he can force himself to fall asleep.

Tohunga – Qazir is rather… unsure about his apprentice. He finds his quiet attitude rather unnerving, and his mysterious aura doesn’t help much in that regard. He often ponders just how the gods of their people touched this young man, and why they chose him in particular. Though, he must say that he appreciates the hard work and effort he puts into the craft. He will be a fine Shaman some day.

Other:
- He’s not becoming an elder. No way no how. He’s living out his days as Shaman, thank you very much.
- Qazir is the embodiment of “Get off my lawn” while also being the one who invited you in.
- The dark blue male is essentially the mermaid version of an alchemist. He is known for mixing various plants and the occasional (or rather, rare) animal parts to make various remedies. He often uses his ability to control water around this time to ensure that nothing escapes the bowls or bottles being used.
- If Qazir had been born a human, he would have likely been diagnosed with schizophrenia. However, the silent voices that he constantly hears and replies to are often viewed as the typical “constant spiritual communication” that Shamans are said to have.
- The Shaman contradicts himself… a lot. Don’t take his words to heart unless he states them over and over again.
