Barish has always wanted everyone to love him. That’s the most he’s thought it through, to be honest, and he can’t restrict himself to one type of person if there’s the chance that anyone would be interested in him. As a royal, he doesn’t get to choose his own love life, but to have anyone of any gender fall for him would have him head over heels.

Voice
Barish has a slightly high voice for someone his age, but nothing too noticeable. He has a Quile accent, which gives his voice a slight rasp and makes it nearly impossible for him to pronounce l’s.

Barish is a clean and well-groomed young man, and takes extra care of his looks, a must for someone in a position like his. Barish has a fairly defined jawline but somewhat rounded cheeks that give his face a slightly wide look. His skin is a light peachy color, and he often has rosy cheeks. His skin is soft and glowing with health, and though he often has small injuries, none are bad enough to leave a permanent mark. His nose is pointed and somewhat small, and he has gently curved eyebrows. His eyes are rather large and have thick lashes. His irises are medium grey-blue, which he likes to call stormy blue. He has fairly heavy lids. His hair is a shining coppery color, with a neat part down the middle. It’s braided in the back, and goes down to about his waist. This is a traditional look for Quile royalty, and he never takes his braid out in front of people, as this is considered ugly. When it’s not in a braid (he only takes it out to sleep), it’s extremely wavy. His hair is full and always brushed out.
Though Barish rarely has the will or need to fight, it’s still important to his mother that the family stay in good shape and be able to fight. Barish isn’t as muscular as the rest of his family, but he’s fit and toned. He doesn’t have much physical force in him, but at least he looks good - that’s the main reason he stays fit anyway. He has a fairly average body shape, with mediumly broad shoulders, an average height for someone his age, and somewhat stocky arms and legs. He doesn’t have any scars, unlike the rest of his family. He’s very clean and tidy, with short rounded fingernails and a soft look about him despite the good shape he’s in.
Barish typically wears the colors of his kingdom, purple and black, and their royal metal, bronze. He also sometimes wears grey and blue. Though the artistic aspect of the kingdom is dying out, one thing that hasn’t changed is the royal garments. Thick tunics with long, slightly loose sleeves and long skirts are traditional. The skirts go all the way down to their feet, just above the ground. Across these skirts are stitched stories from the ancient history of Quile, featuring spirals and concentric circles but never symmetrical. These multicolored works of art depict famous heroes and events, an entire story unfolding in sections across the skirt. Under this he wears large harem pants and tall, stiff black leather boots lined with fur which are extremely uncomfortable. He wears a thin black belt across his waist, and intricately detailed bronze jewelry. He has seven rings, four on his left hand and three on his right. Each is done in amethyst and onyx, depicting the ruling pair from each generation. These are what mark him as royalty, and none but him may wear them. When Barish needs to make an impression, he often wears his armor, which is the same color scheme as the rest of his clothing.
Personality
Barish’s royal family has always valued their citizens. When his father was alive, this kingdom was known for its art and culture. Though their art is certainly still well-known, this has diminished over the years. The royals’ love for their people has become more protective and aggressive. Barish’s father was well-loved, and his mother is now. He desperately wants the people of the kingdom to admire him as well. Their kingdom has frequent social events which commoners are encouraged to attend. Barish is always there, mingling with the crowd. For them, he always wears a charming smile and calm demeanor. He wants to seem cool, and can never say no to anyone. He sometimes breaks rules to show off, but never anything his mother would really be upset about. He makes a lot of promises he can’t keep, and when they fall through, the heat is often on his mother. When commoners have a complaint, he often offers to take it to his mother, but he often chickens out. The truth is that he’s not as important as his brother and sister, and worries his mother will find him a burden if he pushes too hard for any kind of change. His mother is always angry when she finds he’s made promises she can’t keep. He’s often afraid to step up and make harder decisions that might be controversial. He knows he should stop acting this way, but he’s addicted to the feeling of being a hero. The people love him, and he cares about their opinions much more than those of nobles and royals. He has a different kind of manner around his family, more uptight and nervous. He doesn’t feel as good as them, and he’s worried he’ll mess up. That’s why he prefers to linger near the servants and attend peasant social events. With them, he’s like a celebrity, and they adore the prince who takes the time to interact. In other words, it makes him feel confident to be above the people around him. He’s far more awkward and ungainly around royals. Though he likes to think he’s a rebel, he never directly disobeys his mother and his manners around nobles and royalty are impeccable.
Though Barish is rather restricted and logic-based, he idolizes the freedom of outlaws and adventurers. He fancies he’d like to be one, though in reality he would probably fail immediately if given the opportunity. Despite his desire for freedom, he’s very loyal to his kingdom, proud of their culture and heritage. He can’t remember a time before they were warlike, and supports the idea of “conquer or be conquered.” This is a kingdom, and the royals make decisions that are best for their people. Right now they need to be protected from the brutality of neighboring kingdoms. The best defense is a good offense. Despite this point of view, Barish isn’t much of a fighter. Though he can fight, trained by his mother just like his brother and sister, he hates the sight of blood. He’s rather squeamish and easily grossed out. When forced to fight, he typically goes for blunt force or incapacitating someone without wounding them. As a royal, he doesn’t have much need to fight (though his mother would disagree). When the opportunity for a duel presents itself, Barish will deflect it with his manners and act as though fighting is beneath him. When he does fight, he’s not against pulling a few dirty tricks. But he still makes a show of being respectful of his enemy, and keeps his manners while he’s fighting. That’s something his mother taught him as a way of keeping control during a battle.
Barish can be underhanded and devious if he finds it beneficial. He rarely coordinates any grand schemes or master plans, but when the opportunity presents itself to take advantage of a situation, he usually takes it. He’s good at stealth, though not as much as a professional thief or criminal. If it came down to it to win the hand of the princess, he’d rifle through her personal effects or spy on her with another suitor. He’s absolutely desperate to win this competition. An alliance with Odyine is just what Quile needs as it makes a hard transition from an art-based culture to a warmaking kingdom. And what if one of their enemies wins the heart of the princess? That would be a disaster for them. Barish has never been one for competition, but this is the most important task he’s ever been assigned, and he’s not about to mess it up. He’s trying to win honorably, but his mother made it clear that he should do whatever it takes. His first choice, though, would be for them to find a spark immediately, and a great sweeping romance to take place. He’s a “meant to be” type of romantic, the kind who grows quickly tired of day-to-day romance and longs for tales of love at first sight and daring rescues. He wants to fight through obstacles to be with his one true love. He’s not exactly practical about love, but he knows the princess likely will be.
Barish is intelligent, with a great knowledge of the kingdoms’ history and cultures. He also knows a lot about mechanics, something he’s particularly interested in. He’s mathematically-minded and likes creating small clockwork trinkets and toys, with shelves full of them. Despite his kingdom’s historical connection to artwork, Barish isn’t a fan of art. It has less to do with art itself, and more to do with his connection with art. Barish’s father, the king, was a huge supporter of the art community, and worked to expand creativity and experimental art forms. When he died, the queen was heartbroken. She had the art pieces in the castle removed since they reminded her of him. She let their art programs and funding fall apart. Seeing art sort of depresses Barish now, and he’s not interested in it despite recognizing talent and creativity. The only art subject that draws him in is storms. Barish has somewhat of an obsession with storms. To him they’re an embodiment of wild energy and freedom, and he likes to think of himself as a storm. Everything about them - the lashing rain, blazing lightning, rumbling thunder - is powerful and larger-than-life. Barish can’t help but be drawn to storms, and he often gets colds from sitting out in the freezing rain.
Religion
Jikian
Barish’s family is very religious. Their religion, Jikia, has many gods, but each person chooses one god to follow. The royal family is free to choose their own gods, and Barish’s chosen god is the Sky-God. This god brings victory and inspiration, which Barish thinks combines his mother and father’s values. The religion is far from strict, mostly involved in holidays and artforms. Jikians are highly tolerant of other religions and believe there are infinite gods.

Family
Queen Nida Borena
Mother
The queen has been ruling alone for nineteen years, since her husband was killed while traveling. Barish can’t remember a time before she was a fierce warrior, but his older siblings tell him she was once soft and gentle. But Barish loves her how she is, and admires how she protects her people. She taught him to care for their citizens. He often lets her down, not really royalty material. He looks up to her, and wants her to be proud of him. She treats him well, but she’s a queen, and practical about what it means to be royalty. She’s often angry and frustrated with his behavior.
King Firdos Borena
Father
Barish’s father was killed when he was two years old. The king was traveling to arrange an alliance with another kingdom. Barish didn’t really know him. But he knows his father was a lover of art, and besides funding and supporting art in the kingdom, he created quite a bit himself. Firdos and Nida were very much in love, and Nida was devastated and furious when he was killed.
Prince Asad Borena
Older Brother
Barish’s older brother was ten when their father died. He had to deal with his mother falling apart. When the queen decided she would be a fighter, she insisted her oldest son follow in these footsteps. She was still emotionally unstable from the king’s death. She worked Asad hard and refused to let him continue making art. Asad is an angry person, aggressive and more recklessly violent than his mother. He’s cruel towards his family, and people fear what will become of their kingdom when he takes over.
Prince Rowan Borena
Brother-in-Law
Prince Rowan is married to Prince Asad. He’s from Azarel (may change), married to Asad to symbolize an alliance between their kingdoms. Though he’s shy and quiet at first, Barish knows him well enough to know he’s a lot of fun. He’s the only person in his family Barish really gets along with. He’s hilarious and always smiling, and has a cheery attitude. If anyone can save the kingdom from Prince Asad, it’s sure to be the relentlessly optimistic Prince Rowan.
Princess Raksana Borena
Niece
Princess Raksana is the nine-year-old daughter of Asad and Rowan. She’s a sweetheart like Prince Rowan, adorable and funny. She’s a bit clumsy, vague, and scatterbrained. Barish loves her, and likes to help the servants watch her.
Princess Zora Borena
Older Sister
Zora is five years older than Barish. She’s in constant competition with Prince Asad, who she’s determined to dethrone before he can take over. She wants the kingdom to go back to being focused on art, and often fights with her mother over this. Though her intentions may be good, she’s extremely harsh and bullying. She’s constantly in conflict, and when she’s not, she’s passive aggressive.
