Introduction

The Wild West has slowly become tamed within the period of a time that would slowly fade away. This time was a time of breaking the laws, robberies, suffering, loss, death, heartbreak, bloodshed, and the people claiming this untamed land for their own. To make themselves at home in a place that could be considered free. It could be considered something of a paradise - one that could never be replaced. For some, it was a new start. For some, it was a place to simply claim and rise up in power. For some, it was a living and breathing hell.

For others, it was a home.

Gangs of outlaws and bandits mainly dominated this uncharted land, always acting on one another in brutal ways to stay on top. Each one tried to find a bigger score than the last - another train to rob, another bank to invade, or another powerful family to scam. Whatever it was, it was deemed a perfect life for them. While their ways could've been considered unhinged and unlawful, you might say. However, this was all they knew.

And these gangs were family. Each individual within these groups had a strong relation with another, even if they didn't necessarily like one another. They always had each others' backs, no matter the cost. That's what made them so special. But to an outsider, they were a bunch of people who simply couldn't leave behind the old ways and deal with the rise in developing civilizations that would inevitably end all of what they know.

As time went on, immigrants from other countries and those who already resided in this foreign land began to build towns which eventually grew to cities. The outlaw's worlds were changing. More people meant a government, and a government included law. Sooner or later, in 1850, the Pinkerton Detective Agency would be made. These agents were specifically trained to deal with things like train robberies, but would go on to follow a number of certain gangs because that's who these crimes were almost always committed by.

In 1872, the gang known as the Red Hands Gang was created. Their leader, a ruthless man named Howard Perry became infamous for his own actions. He killed whenever he pleased and always got away with it and would in fact shoot those who got in his way. But what he did protect was a group, at the time, of seven other men. These men were his family, and in a way, his entire life. He devoted his life to these men, and before a deadly illness took his life, these men would go on to expand the Red Hands Gang.

Now, in the year 1894, a year before the Wild West era would in fact end, the Red Hands Gang is one of the last well-known gangs still around. They've been on the run for the last six and a half years, trying to live out their last days peacefully before the world's new beginning starts, and an old world ends.

Plot

With the original eight men of the gang dead, their successors have taken the roles of expanding the gang - the family - into roughly twenty-some members. That said, the gang has developed an even larger target on their backs without a way to really escape from it. Because of the law and the Pinkerton Detective Agency growing more and more closer to them, the Red Hands Gang must learn how to live in a world that no longer perceives them as regulated members of society, but rather as a threat.

You will follow the story of heartbreak, bloodshed, death, and sadness as their days as a family comes to an end while on the run, trying to prove themselves that there is still meaning in the way that they live and that not everything they do is considered bad, but rather is what you do when you lay down your life for your family.

Possible Subplots

[1] A smaller group of bandits attempting to annihilate what is left of the Red Hands Gang, hopeful to take their glory in the remaining days and maybe appear in history books later down the line.
[2] While some members of the gang are away (probably higher-ranking members or members who are useful when it comes to protecting camp, etc), the gang's current camp is invaded by the law. A few members (1-3) are taken in for interrogation, the law hoping that they give up the location of their leader and other higher-ranking members. One of the members who are captured ends up spilling the beans and basically becomes a spy for the Pinkerton agents, meeting them on a bi-weekly basis. (I imagine this becoming useful later in the story, not right of the bat).
[3] The gang, while on the run, comes into contact with a Native American tribe. They present themselves to be non-hostile, so the tribe does in fact take alliance with them. They make an agreement that as long as the gang members can pull their weight and help to protect what the tribe has claimed for themselves first, then the tribe will also help the gang as much as they can without getting too involved with the law.
[4] A long-time rival gang still working to kill their biggest target - the Red Hands Gang.
[5] The Red Hands Gang comes into contact with a large, powerful family who runs a tobacco farm and does some illegal moon-shining on the side. They try to scam them out of money in hopes to use that money to go some place else and not be followed. However, the family finds out about this, starting a feud.
[6] The son of Howard Perry, the first ever member of the Red Hands Gang, is not leader. Instead, it is someone else. This creates a bunch of tension between the current leader and the son, and eventually, the rest of the gang as they notice this tension. Could end with a fight of sorts, a voting situation, or even death.

---

Note: As if you couldn't tell, this entire RP will be very character-driven. The drama will be between characters and their inner turmoil rather than a set-in-stone sort of drama-based RP when it comes to plot. That said, when joining this RP, keep in mind that you must be able to donate to the story and understand that this RP isn't meant to be taken very lightly. As I imagine (if this RP takes off), it will be filled with tons and tons of death and other drama. Again, please keep this in mind, and thank you for understanding and taking this into consideration if you decide to join.

Roles

Note: I am aware that technically speaking, gang structures like this didn't really affect anything/didn't really exist in this time period. These are all made for the sake of the RP and having diverse roles among characters and their specialties. If you have one that you would like to add, let me know!

Leader (1)
The leader. This person has the ultimate say in what goes within the gang, and their loyalty to the people is to never be doubted. Everyone puts their trust in them and holds all power over everyone, even if they don't actually express it. That said, what they say goes and shall never be argued unless they say otherwise. They have great leadership skills and generally speaking lookout for the people, though it is possible for them to be a bit selfish. They normally assign what others are doing for the day, may call 'gang meetings', etc.

Second-in-command (1)
This role is for the closest to the leader. They hold mostly the same power as the leader, while they may turn to their second-in-command for a word of advice or the vice versa. They mainly help to run things as well, and are considered to be a great second opinion while the leader is making choices. They are also probably close with the leader, possibly a childhood bestfriend, a sibling, cousin, maybe even a lover of sorts. They also help to assign jobs throughout the day if need-be, and take the leader's spot if they are absent.

Advisor (1)
The advisor is honestly a very important role. They help with the leader and second-in-command when it comes to making huge business-related choices. They may also do their own little businesses, scamming the local folk in some sort of scheme. They are very intelligent when it comes to business strategies and money, possibly have a background in it. While also dealing with money, they deal with keeping track of other items within the camp. This could range from food to medical supplies and anything in-between.

Shooters (2)
These two people are elite when it comes to shooting. They have a good grasp on their guns and ammo, and are the people to ask when asking about firearms. This role is especially important while the gang is out and about, even if it isn't everyone. Because they are so skilled, they are used for some sort of security, and of course anyone else who may be decent with guns can help them if need-be. They also help to teach the people who don't know how to use guns to use them, or at least learn the basics.

Local (2)
These two people are the people who know the roads. They understand geography and directions, and can get around the wilderness and whatever towns the gang might run into at ease. They are normally paired with the scouts when it comes to going into town to look for a possible place to rob or something of the like. They also normally do patrols as they know the land best, which in this case would be paired with the shooters for protection.

Observer (2)
The observers are really only useful when the gang is up to no good like robbing a place, but they are there to spot out any law or civilians that are incoming and may get them in trouble. Another thing they do is sorta observe towns. Rather than actually engaging in them, they will find a higher point to look from a different vantage point and have the ability to engage though if they would like. Their opinions of the town are normally developed first as they are good at keeping their head low and keeping a low profile. They also may come back with information that there is nearby family farms/ranches, a bank, etc. If in a city, they'll probably be with the locals and/or scouts.

Scout (3)
The scouts are similar to the observers, though are a lot more engaged if you will. These three people literally do everything when it comes to finding a new place to set up camp, another bank to rob, finding out when another train loaded with money will be coming through town, etc. They are really the brains for most operations that the gang might commit to. They really take a deep dive into how the people operate in a certain town/city and always come back with more and more information that the gang can use if they want to do anything with it.

Stablemen (2)
These two people are responsible for the horses in camp. Most likely, they have a background with horses and understand them quite well. They make sure each horse is in decent health, will look at any injuries, etc. They're sorta the 'vets' of the gang if you will. Because horses are so important to a cowboy and as transportation, these two folk are actually extremely important. Without horses, the gang wouldn't really be able to get anywhere except for... walking.

Members (10)
Made up of men, women, and children, this makes up the bulk of the gang. They are honestly the entire backbone. Everyone is devoted to the gang one way or another and pulls their weight to make it function. They do average day-to-day tasks, like helping out with the other roles, keeping the camp secure, cleaning, cooking, hunting, going into nearby towns to buy certain supplies, etc. (Note: Will possibly open up more slots for this role depending on interest.)

RP Rules

1. All of Eve's rule apply and trump all. If you must, review the rules when needed.

2. You must be active. Post at least twice a week, and if something comes up, you would like to drop the RP, etc, PM me and let me know instead of just leaving everyone in the dark.

3. This is a literate to advanced RP. That being said, you must be able to type at least 300 words per post with proper grammar, punctuation, capitalization, etc. Your character sheets should also reflect this.

4. Have at least ten sentences in each personality and appearance when signing up.

5. Images are allowed if properly credited, but you still have to write a description.

6. Be sure to include everyone. Do not have your character constantly steal the spotlight, have all the attention, center everything around them, etc. This is a group RP, not a 1x1.

7. Be as realistic as possible! This RP was made to be historically accurate, or at least as much as you can get it to be, and you should be sure to keep your characters realistic to the time period.

8. This should go without saying, but hate the character and not the player. I will not be tolerating any OOC drama.

9. You are allowed two characters, only one can be high-ranking. I'd prefer you each had one male and one female, though depending on the current ratio, obviously there can be exceptions.

10. Reservations last 48 hours unless an extension is asked for.

11. If you need to ask me a question, please either ask it in the disucssion or PM me regarding it. Do not clog the sign-up thread.

12. Keep the genders as balanced as possible.

13. The use of strong language is allowed, but do not over do it.

14. Do not control other's characters, harm them without permission, kill without permission, etc.

15. No OP characters.

16. No god-modding.

17. No romance between your own characters. However, playing a parent-child duo or siblings/cousins is welcome. (The exception to this is an NPC situation. Like a brief character who is already dead or something similar/out of the picture)

18. Please always be kind and respectful to those who are in the RP.

19. Do not be afraid to voice an idea! I'd love to hear them.

20. Have fun!

__________ Harv Brooks __________

“I’m sick of waiting for our inevitable end.”

Name
Harvey “Harv” Brooks

He will almost always introduce himself as Harv.

Age
27

Gender
Male

Sexuality
Heterosexual/Questioning

He’s known for having short-lived flings with some of the local women in the towns that the gang travel through, though he’s never really kept anyone around. That said, he’s not looking, but whatever happens, happens. Most find it really ironic that a nice guy like Harv would get around, but ya know, nothing in this life can really last.

Rank
Stablemen

He earned his rank quite early on when joining.

Desired Rank
Content

He likes his horses more than people.

Appearance

mossygator @ picrew

Harvey is not a very large man, only standing around five foot eight with a rather lean build. While not entirely muscular, he does have some defined areas within his body such as his forearms, hands, shoulders, and his face in general. His skin tone is that of a dark tan with warmer undertones, mainly red. He generally has little to no extra scarring except for the obvious one across his right eye caused by a hunting accident when he was just a boy. Harvey has very subtle beauty marks and freckles scattered throughout his body, though none really stick out. He has smaller, more faint scars from his stupid childhood days, but otherwise, the man isn’t very interesting to look at. He could be considered conventionally attractive if you really thought about it with his striking features, but Harvey could care less about his looks. While he does hold himself with a certain sort of charm - shoulders back, head high, and a long stride, Harvey does not really present himself as striking. He’s memorable, sure, but you’d forget about him in about a year.

Harv’s face structure is a bit more on the rounded side, while still having a defined, slightly chiseled look to him. His face is rather slim, and this is mainly because he is in fact underweight - it’s not a good sort of slim, even if he appears healthy. That being said, his face normally appears more full. He has high cheekbones and slightly sunken eyes, and beneath his football-shaped eyes are dark bags that tell you a million things about him at just one glance. He has a slightly crooked nose, one that comes off his face rather sharply with a bump in the middle, and comes back down to meet his nostrils. His lips are full, his bottom lip being more prominent than the top, and are pale pink when it comes to color. Harvey has very full eyebrows, which arch upwards and become thin towards the end. His eyes are a bright, striking blue, though probably appear more dull nowadays as life has been slowly sucked out of him.

Harvey has a full head of hair, which is a dark brown that normally appears black in most cases depending on the lighting situation. His hair is a bit on the longer side of things for a man, or overgrown as you could say. It reaches to just about an inch or two below his ear, meeting his jawline. His hair is in fact normally hidden by his hat, which is simply a black hat with a white feather on it that is beat to crap. Anyway, Harv’s hair is normally pretty messy and obviously he doesn’t wash it everyday which you can tell by the apparent grease that builds up from his scalp. He normally has his hair sorta pushed back behind his ears. His part is to the right, and his hair is very flat and doesn’t have much volume. However, the thickness of it makes up for this. He has some strands that fall in front of his face that he normally ignores.

Harv wears rather simple clothing. Fashion is not one of his strong suits whatsoever, so don’t expect him to really ever be looking good. He wears a white button-up shirt that is stained brown and is super off-white at this point. His shirts are normally a little bit over-sized, making him appear slightly smaller than he is, but he’s never found this to bother him that much. His pants are made of denim and are black, and he wears black suspenders to, well, suspend his pants and prevent them from falling down. He wears dark brown boots, which have also taken a beating. Depending on what he’s doing, he’ll be wearing gloves of sorts. Harv keeps a black bandanna on him at least all the time, normally around his neck. Sometimes it can be found tucked into one of his pockets. Anyway, if it’s cold enough outside, he wears a black overcoat with red accents. It is thick and keeps him quite warm, actually. He wears a gun belt around his waste where he carries his revolver. Most of the time he'll have a rope attached to it as well.

Personality
Harvey is easily depicted as a rather calm, easy-going man. He seems like he doesn't have a care in the world. Which to be honest, the man really doesn't, but is one of the people who cherishes the smaller things in life that happen to him or the smaller things that people may do for him. Harvey is very approachable, and even though he may look cocky or like the hardass that would only talk about himself, he's in fact the complete opposite. He's rather social and gets along with just about anyone. The only time he'll ever really have a problem with someone is if there's a valid reason. He's not the type to really give second chances, though he has made some exceptions in the past when it comes to this topic.

While Harvey is a person who can carry a conversation, he doesn't really approach others. Yes, he's social, but does still prefer to stick to himself. Some may consider him that 'strong silent type', but he's simply a tad shy. He doesn't speak unless spoken to, and when it comes to heartfelt conversations, he's always been the type to brush things off. Harvey doesn't have much to say about himself anyway, as he doesn't think he's that interesting. He's not good at giving long, deep speeches about how he's feeling - it's simply not his forte. While the man can be vulnerable, that's only if he's completely comfortable with you. He has very little to no respect for himself when he shows how sad he may be about a situation. For some reason, it makes himself uncomfortable. However, anger is a different topic. He expresses his anger very easily, even if it's towards a group or just one person - it doesn't matter.

Harvey has a certain wit to him. While being very light-hearted in almost all situations, he's almost always sarcastic and making quick-witted responses that would put a smile on most peoples' faces. He's definitely the light the most people would want to have in their lives - he does not prioritize the violence of the world they live in, but would rather be someone who others can come to when they're feeling down. Speaking of violence, Harvey is very much a pacifist. However, piss him off enough, he can get physical, though rarely does he fight with his fists but rather his words. He stands by what he says and it takes a lot to change his opinion. This doesn't mean that he's closed-minded, as he will take everyone's thoughts on something into consideration, though he does not change what he thinks just to please others around him.

If you couldn't tell already, Harvey is confident in who he is. His identity is something that he takes pride in, but he isn't egotistical or cocky about it whatsoever. He figures that having someone like him in a life that is full of heartbreak would be a joy to have. He thinks he's a joy to be around, and has the tendency to remind himself quite often that his loving acts mean more in the long run and are more impact-ful than taking action in the violence that most others around him are so caught up in.

Harvey is protective. He's not necessarily possessive, though he can become overprotective and maybe yell at someone for their actions that he does care about because he doesn't want them to succumb to a bad choice. He would take a bullet for any of his friends and family and it really shows when he's in a situation that requires some sort of strong minded person. Harvey has very little boundaries, though if you hurt someone he loves and holds dearly to his heart, it's best that you stray away from him for as long as you can. Like mentioned before, the man is not violent, but he does get his point across. He can be slightly blunt at times, though he thinks it's for the better. He's very honest in what he says and is clearly sincere when he's not cracking jokes and being sarcastic.

Getting to know Harvey is quite easy. It doesn't take much. He prizes and cherishes his relationships with others - romantic or platonic - and would kill for his friends and family. He's actually super transparent and doesn't care what others think of him who don't actually know him because they do not know anything about him. He has this sort of brotherly love that people can emphasize with and understand, and learning about him becomes quite easy as you hang around him more and more. You can pick up on certain quirks he has. For example, when listening, he normally crosses his arms. When working, he'll almost always be chewing on something - like dry grass - to help him maintain his focus as it is easily taken away from the task at hand. When he's talking, he uses a lot of hand gestures. Little things like that can make you learn about him, and of course, through conversation (which is super easy with him).

Patience has always been a thing that most people appreciate with Harvey Brooks. He is a man who understands people, and while he does not always appreciate the things that people take action in (such as the violence that those around him may do), he has become someone that can understand a point but not agree with it. He's not a people-pleaser - as mentioned before, he does not change his mind just because a close friend of his tries their best to persuade him. Instead, he is patient. He reads people from afar or while interacting with them, taking note of the subtleties that make them who they are. In fact, he may learn things about someone that they might not even know about themselves. He's quite observant in this way - and many others, such as simply watching the environment that he's in. But to him, patience is something that does not come around with ease. He lets things play out instead of trying to intervine in any way to prevent it from happening, unless he knows the sure end of it, which also takes patience for himself to think about the possible outcomes for something or someone. He's logical in that sense rather than more emotional, which if you couldn't already tell, Harvey is not an emotional or vulnerable man.

Harvey is, in all, a kind, protective, sarcastic, slightly insecure man about his feelings who is trying to make the world a better place one act at a time. He's not cocky. He's accepting and welcoming, and to most, that's something that others have never experienced before. He hopes that before his death he can impact the people around him, and if he does that, he will consider his mission complete.

Strengths
+Social - He's approachable in most situations and is very easy to hold a conversation with. He loves hearing what others have to say and is never the type to turn anyone away. For this, he is also accepting.
+Kind - It just goes better in the long-run, and sometimes he wishes that others around him realized this.
+Caring - Harv is very selfless and is a reflection of what people don't really have anymore - care. While he seems care-free, and is quite the adventurous, wanting-to-do-what-he-wants sort of guy, he still cares for those around him.
+Horses - Ah, horses. Not only does his role in the gang take note of this, but he's always been fond of the animal. Most animals, too. They hold a nice place in his heart and he is quite proud of himself for learning the things that he does when it comes to the horses.

Weaknesses
- Half-blind - Because of an accident when he was younger, Harv is slightly blind in his right eye, which you can tell by how cloudy that eye is compared to the other and the obvious scar that crosses it.
- Shooting - It's a good thing that Harv was never interested in the guns that are so apparent in his world. His aim is crap and he honestly could care less for firearms anyway. However, he still knows his way around a gun if it's really that important (which he thinks it is considering who he is with).
- Physical Strength - Because he is underweight, even if he appears healthy and relatively fit, he lacks physical strength. Sure, he can pick up some heavy pounds, but could he take someone in a fight? No. It's a solid reason why he sticks to his words, not his fists.
- Vulnerability - Harv cannot express his sadness about something, like, ever. It's something that he, as a child, was always put down about and it has slowly shifted into his adulthood that prevents him from being able to talk about his deeper feelings.

Owns a mustang named Marco who he captured roughly a decade ago. He likes his horse more than he really likes anyone else to be honest. Marco is a blue roan, standing at roughly 14hh. He's a bit of a brute that only tolerates Harv.

Open for literally anything :D A love interest, past lover, brother/sister, cousin, etc.

Will "Bright Eyes" Rookery

Full name: William Adam Rookery

Nicknames: Will, Bright eyes

Known as 'Bright eyes' due to his youthful appearance and innocent nature. Plus he's sort of the eyes of the whole gang's operation, as he observes the usual goings on of whatever town or area they're in and picks out any details. Also for the way he is able to build emotion into his art of whatever he sees. He can bring beauty into everything and anything, including something insignificant as a stone. That is his greatest gift, he only wishes he could share it in a less criminal fashion.

Age: 26 years old

Gender: Male

Sexuality: Questioning (and completely oblivious to advances. What a brilliant combo.)

Rank: Observer

Desired Rank: This is good(bad?) enough thanks

Appearance:

The first word that comes to mind when describing Will is none other than 'normal'. His livelihood depends on being indistinguishable from the general public, and so he has very few defining features. Standing at 5''9 he is incredibly average - not too tall nor short but adequate for smallish spaces while being perfect to easily run or climb in order to escape whatever he must. His face too is ordinary and simple: it is slightly rounded with a square jaw and a short goatee to finish it off. His hair is a little wild but not untidy - thick and fluffy and a rich dark brown. His eyes are a similar lightish brown, nice and conveniently common. Bright blue eyes would probably get him recognised more than he'd like. The one notible feature would be his quick smile and the deep dimples it causes. Will also has tanned olive skin indicative of a mixed heritage - his family spans much of North and Central America - which tends not to get burnt as so he can sit out in the sunlight for hours just painting or drawing without fear of getting himself sick. His muscles are a comfortable size, lean but strong enough to depend on - but not amazingly strong. Perhaps he'll get there eventually.

Will dresses however everyone else does, as is his plan. It's much easier to nick a few peices here and there than to try and figure out his own 'style.' If you can even call if that. He does feel drawn to the rare colourful clothing, but is also find anything other than his usual items: a plain set of boots, trousers, a shirt and a hat to keep the sun out of his eyes. For all his appreciation of beauty you'd assume he puts some work into his appearance... Well you'd be wrong. He keeps himself clean and for the most part tidy, but that is as best it'll get.

Personality:

Upon first impression, William is a little unassuming. All round basic really - as if there's very through thoughts running through his head and with fewer releasing from his mouth. He is very quiet - not in the shy way, in the way where one simply does not talk much. It would be wrong to assume he does not like talking either - he can and will describe irrelevant things for hours apon hours, analysing the simplest of things. And don't even get him started on any kind of art-related subject unless you'd like to hear him drone on continuously. His words aren't necessarily boring, nor is his tone of voice. They are simply so monochrome in character - difficult to listen to unless someone is actually willing to listen and interested in the subject at hand.

This man appears so basic in stature - just a guy whom you may see walking past on the street and stop for a short conversation about the weather. Or breifly wave at when in a store. Not unfriendly in the slightest, and a great listener however brilliantly ordinary. He's so easygoing and polite to an almost excessive degree, and has no temper in the slightest. Imagining Will in any sort of criminal gang would be laughable, to someone who does not know him.

The real William has a bit of a sharper edge. His charm can be turned on and off in a flash - irritatingly so, feeling like a slap to the face. Sometimes it gives Will himself whiplash. In the blink of an eye his easy going, relaxed smile turns into a sharp warning look. At other times he simply pays no attention, either avoiding contact on purpose or lost in his own little world. He makes it obvious whether he'd like to speak or not, and is a master of adjusting his body posture to suite whatever situation is at hand. Mimicking people almost subconsciously, Will is a little bit hard to figure out himself. Purely because he spends a lot of time trying not to be.

Strengths:

Incredibly detail oriented, William will discover many things that people will often don't even notice. He pays attention to everything, quickly picking out any information of significance - often useful in some way to the gang operations. He tends to consider outcomes or options others might not consider, perhaps because they are often outlandish, but occasionally because they required an extensive knowledge of the area around them that many just do not have. He, on the other hand, absorbs information like a sponge. Will fulfills his role as an Observer well, recording timetables of any threats such as sherrifs, maps of main streets and portraiture of significant locals; everything is hidden in artwork - coded so that only someone knowing what it indicates, could understand what story the image tells.

Will's main skill aside from his artistry is the ability to blend in perfectly with anyone. A group of bandits? Easy enough, he just copies their wiry grins to a T. The local sheriffs? He can pick up their specific terms and mannerisms within a day. He likes to study people, to copy their behaviour. It's surprising how much information such a thing like that can provide. Especially to the gang, who need information as fast as possible to keep things going smoothly. Honestly, there's not many things Will wouldn't be able to get away with. As long as he has a short time to prepare himself, he can bluff his way through anything with quiet charm and charisma. He's good at improvisation as well, though he tends to overspeak when he's under pressure. His disguises work best when he is silent or speaking minimally, so he won't slip up.

Will isn't exactly an angel, but he's trying to be at least good. He has strong morals over pretty much everything. Then he'll enforce them upon everyone he knows. Or at least to a certain extent - he's smart enough to recognise where there is too much conflict of interest. There are some things he will always honour, and will get agressive towords those who did not - obvious things like do not mistreat your horse, do not steal from the poor and etc. Sure, basic things, but what makes this a strength is how far he'll go to enforce them.

Weaknesses:

Pride will probably be his downfall, and certainly is already his biggest flaw. He definitely has the right to feel proud and worthy of admiration over his artwork, but the issue is not his feelings over his own hard work. The true issue lies over his desire for his talents to be known. Widely. Like throughout the frontier. But in this lifestyle, to be known can be dangerous. As an Observer, he shouldn't be known - he should not be a face or person recognisable by anyone outside the gang. Any sense of familiarity - any feature easy to pin down and identify could place the gang in jeopardy. Despite this, he likes to leave a small sign of a ___? to mark the gangs' movements. It is only noticeable to someone who knows what they're looking for. Perhaps there's a ton of unneeded risk to this, but he can't handle the idea of being forgotten - lost to history.

Will isn't the strongest guy around. Physically weaker than some, he isn't built for the best of escapades that the gang might get going. He'll fight decently enough if his life depends on it (which happens occasionally) but he's not going to be much fun in a sparring match, or much use in a fist-fight. He's not brilliant with any sort of guns or weaponry either. His aim would be incredible if only he could work out how to use the damn things. Maybe he's somehow jamming the systems just by holding it, or maybe he's just so damn unlucky. Just never hand this man a gun, for your own safety and everyone else's.

One slight issue about Will is that he occasionally gets destracted. For some reason whenever he moves from place to place he acts like an excited child who has never seen the outside world before. He just has to see each plant, building, town dog, clocktower, valley - ambling about aimlessly and uselessly. He gets this out of his system after a good few hours of sketching though, and apologetically helps anyone and everyone he can with various tasks for the rest of the week.

Likes:

To say he loves art is a serious understatement. Any form of art is a key to his soul, the one thing that'll get him happily talking. He loves anything built up from emotions, but converted into a physical image or thing. He's an artist of most kinds: a painter, sculptor, illustrator, working with whatever resources he can get his hands on. This little side hobby is payed for by his usual business, as a member of the gang - so he can get his fair share of the resulting reward, but luckily avoids the worst. It sounds a little insane, but he'll risk anything for art. Not that he clings to everything he makes - most end up destroyed when the gang moves from place to place, turned to ashes in a desposal fire. (He retains his best ones, selling some others if he can to people who will be not connected to him. Some personal ones are incredibly sentimental, and he will do everything he can to protect them. Generally, no one gets to see these few.) His main attachment to art is the freedom it provides - he can tell any story, illustrate any thought without full judgement. That isn't to say people do not judge his artwork, he simply does not care for their opinions. If he does, he will ask.

Will loves horses. Oh and cats. And dogs. Most animals really. He appreciates their companionship endlessly - what else could see right through his fake smile into his heart and true feelings. It sounds a little stupid perhaps, but he gets the same rush of happiness when he's with an animal friend than he does when he paints or draws. Nothing else makes him feel so in tune and content with the world - all the nature from a whirring storm to a small songbird. This is something he has never really felt with another person, even when trying to discuss it with those closest to him. Hopefully there's someone out there who understands.

Will also greatly loves any form of nature - from sunsets to beetles, pond stones to mountain lions. He adores being out in the fresh(ish) air and riding Meeka until they're both happily worn out. Then he'll give her a well-earned meal and watch the stars overhead. There is nothing more he values than the subtle beauty of life, and he hopes his sketchbooks can capture that somehow. Maybe if he ends up arrested he will still be able look through them, remembering the taste of freedom. That's a comforting thought at least, however unrealistic.

Dislikes:

Being left handed because oh god... everything he writes ends up smudged. And when he's drawing he messes up his stylised 'whispy' pencil sketches. It's his biggest irritant ever. Hopefully he'll be ambidextrous someday (don't tell him that's not how it works he doesn't want to hear) or at least remember halfway through a drawing to not drag his sleeve over the artwork. Even that's happened more than he'd like to admit.

Big expanses of water are a beautiful thing to paint, but they're terrifying to be around. Anything he can't sit up straight in is something he'll be avoiding getting into. The Ocean is something he doesn't even want to consider, but things such as lakes and ponds slightly freak him out too. Really, it's the risk of drowning. That's a way he would never want to go out via. Even if he finally learned to swim, he would never get over that fear.

Horrible people are Will's worst nightmare. Bare in mind this man will get along with near anyone, so to be considered someone he will not talk to is definitely something significant. Whether you're happy to be on that list or not is up to yourself, but his standards for people are not high. So anyone he hates has to be the worst people in existence. Despite his easygoing nature, there are a few individuals Will cannot tolerate in the slightest. I'd recommend you keep your distance from him in the event you are one of those few - for Will doesn't play nice with not-nice people.

His other disliked things are: fire - because who likes a weapon of mass destruction... Okay kidding, but he'll be keeping a safe distance from any campfire thanks; anything excessively sweet because it makes his mouth hurt; birds - why do they have to wake him up before sunrise? And finally laziness, because he believes everyone has the ability to do something, no matter how small or insignificant.

Animal Companions:

Firstly the matter of his horse, Meeka (short for Dominique). Despite his expected love of horses (he obviously travels a lot therefore relies on them, plus they're magnificent to sketch - so fluid and elegant and oddly shaped) many horses simply can not put up with him. Perhaps it is the way he intensely stares while trying to capture all a horse's ethereal beauty in one short memory, that really irritates the flighty creatures. (Understandably, one supposes.) Meeka is the only horse that is unbothered by his countless hours of sketching, painting, sculpting artworks of her, alongside all the staring. That doesn't mean she's expectional in any way though; to any other set of eyes Meeka would be a simple plain bay mare standing at 16hh with an aweful temper, but nevertheless a trustworthy enough steed who would never buck off her rider. Will feels lucky to have her in all her 17 & 1/2 year old mareish glory, and obtained her from this Old French man several years ago. It's not like she's over committed though, to anyone really. She'll do any work for them all as long as there's a meal and a comfortable place to lie once it's completed.

The two local stray cats. He calls them Lula and Hattie. For some reason they quite like him and tend to hang around while he sits and draws or paints. Lula is a small, light brown tabby built for speed. She hates to be touched, but thrives on attention. Hattie on the other hand ignores people for the most part, this speckled grey-brown she-cat preferring a good hunt on the various critters that often cause issues for camp residents, rather than human contact. The main reason this duo sticks around is to bother their favourite person, and feast on the vermin that are attracted by food & waste. They also get along well with Meeka, riding on her back alongside Will and keeping pests from bothering her while she's resting.
