Power
He can turn into a stone golem, complete with earth-shaking geokinetic powers and incredible physical strength and durability. This was brought about by an incident at a homo habilus dig site in northern Tanzania (more in "Backstory".) It left him with a kind of... presence, something set apart from his own logical human mind. A deep, powerful, intuitive conscience living alongside his own, taking over in times of intense emotion or danger. And then he transforms. (See the second part of "Appearance.") He has gotten better at controlling this, but when he was first figuring his new powers out, it was extremely difficult to control.
Role
A neer member of the Rays. He never thought he would be involved in such a group, but a lot has changed since he got his powers.
Appearance
Arthur can be considered on the good side of average, standing at 5'9 with an ectomorphic but fairly healthy body type, weighing in at a meager ~130 pounds. His wife often teases him, swearing that he hasn't gained a pound since college. He has a diamond-shaped face and light hazel eyes that shift colors. He also often wears glasses because, as with most of his colleagues, he is near-sighted. He can function without them but needs them to drive, and just prefers to have a full range of sight.
His golem form is completely unrecognizable to his human form, and in many ways is exactly the opposite. Made up of literal chunks of solid rock in basic geometric shapes, held together by magical magnetic-esque bonds with movements akin to those of a well-made ball joint doll. (Think the ice golem from Frozen, but with more visible segmenting, and of course marginally smaller.) He stands at 8'2, and his weight falls north of 900 pounds, "The Golem" is incredibly physically strong as well as able to jump great distances. His upper body is roughly shaped like an upside-down triangle with broad shoulders and narrow hips. His head is comparatively small in size. Carved skull-like eyes glow with a blue flame-like light from within his square rock head, and his face lacks other features. However he is still able to make basic noises like grunts and groans. His carved facial features give off a sense of innocense and openness despite his size and strength, that make him seem docile and not quite as scary. He doesn't have many spiky or weapon-like features, and most of his stone bodyparts have smooth edges (excepting his forearms and lower legs which are armed with protruding stone spikes.) Despite his massive size, over time he has slowly mastered this new body and is now able to move with remarkable dexterity and care, and even pick up very small or delicate things with his bulky rock fingers without breaking them.
Personality
Arthur comes across as your standard somewhat nerdy and ambiverted science-obsessed guy, whose job takes up perhaps too much of his life. He finds inexplicable joy in the endless puzzle of untangling the twisted evolutionary tree of all the species on our planet (particularly the pre-homo sapien species!) and could talk about the subject for hours. And most don't see any more of him outside of this work-oriented, well-spoken and polite presentation. He is a friendly, low-energy and stable presence, easy to get along with and open to small talk. But he keeps his work colleagues at arms length, careful to not let them too deep into his personal life. At his best he is knowledgeable, keenly observant, able to synthesize information in ways few others think of, and stand by what he believes in despite the doubts of others.
He is naturally very observant as well as being very intelligent, constantly learning and picking up information from those around him. He is endlessly curious about the world around him, a trait he never grew out of even as an adult. The world is full to bursting of puzzles to work out, systems to understand. Massive, complex natural structures to take apart, organize into understandable small pieces, and put back together again.
However his personality is altered when he turns into a golem. It feels to him almost as if some other presence rears its head to take control. More powerful, more decisive and confident, more reactive and grounded in the real world. He becomes more brave, emotionally intense and action-oriented, more empowered to turn thinking into doing. This foreign presence comes with a powerful gut intuition spurring his actions, which often works in his favor and gets him out of dangerous situations.
