Zahra felt relief as the lights grew into a town. She had been sure that it was one, but it was incredibly relieving that it truly was one. She didn't know what they'd do if it wasn't one. No doubt just keep on moving. Khnurn and his mare were behind her as well as the rest of their guardians. However all seemed to pick up the pace. She was ready to meet some kind of civilization, no matter how small. Heck, even one person would be fine. She'd never talked to anyone, except the animals and Khnurn. And technically she'd know them her whole life. However that worked.

Zahra throws a look over her shoulder,"Yes, we should stop." But should they send someone ahead? "Hmm, if one of our creatures is okay with that, then yes. We should send one ahead."

Wouldn't Zahra and Khnurn also feel the presence of chaos? Were their senses enhanced? Or would the creatures sense it long before they did? And what of the chaos god? Where were his minions? Zahra sighs, she was incredibly confused on how they were suppose to defeat this chaos god. And she'd continue to think that for a long while. Especially as long as their assumed powers were locked within them. Unable to access them and unsure of how to even activate them.

The sight of lights meant there were humans, right? There had to be. Wasn't an abandoned town void of light? But this town was decently close to the chaos creature, maybe it had been abandoned and the lights were still working?

Khnurn leaned back and sat as heavily as he could to get the mare to slow down. Sand sprayed up and hit his legs as she hopped to a full stop, working her jaw as though there was a bit in her mouth. He dismounted rather unceremoniously and stumbled a few steps forward before regaining his composure and tilting his head to hear Zahra's words. He turned, eyes immediately finding those creatures who could fly. A smaller creature, falcon-like and well-decorated after the manner of Horus, stared back almost expectantly. Yes, it seemed this particular creature was almost designed for such a job.

"Would you-?"

I am Tet, it chirped. After cocking its head to a near right angle, it added, And yes. I shall return.

It shot into the air much faster than Khnurn was expecting, and he moved back next to Zahra and the wolf with a short grunt. "I can't tell if Tet is just irritable or... what is the modern word? Quirky? Eager? Direct."

He shook his head and ran a hand through his dark hair, squinting into the lights. He thought he could see movement, but it was nothing that raised any alarms. That had to be a good sign, then. Regardless, he would wait on Tet's return before making any further moves.

Ta soon slowed down as well, coming to a gentle halt, kicking up very little sand. Zahra pats Ta's shoulder before swinging her leg over and sliding to the ground. Zahra grunts as she hits the ground, her legs giving out a little as she staggers forward. Though much like Khnurn, it took only a few steps to straighten back up. Zahra follows Khnurn's gaze as he scans the creatures, while she leans against Ta. Khnurn chose a falcon, and Zahra nods. Not a bad chose. Small enough to not be seen.

Zahra listens quietly to the conversation between Khnurn and the falcon who introduced itself as Tet. Then the bird was off, into he air like a bullet. Zahra's eyes track the bird as far as she could, before returning her gaze to Khnurn.

"There is no telling. Perhaps just direct." Ta's body shakes with what Zahra assumed was laughter. And she turns slightly to look at the wolf, only for Ta to shake his head. Zahra shrugs before returning her gaze to the horizon, looking for Tet.

It seemed the bird was an enigma to its fellow creatures as well, sometimes, based off of Ta's response to Khnurn's question. He offered a small smile before fixing his eyes back on the town, searching for the little bird. Khnurn began wringing his hands out of nervous habit; what if something was wrong? Had Tet been caught? Injured? Then again, it had only been a minute or two; the bird seemed the thorough type, so perhaps Khnurn was just being impatient and overreacting. Tet would be fine.

Sure enough, a little frame zipped towards them a couple minutes later, gliding with ease until landing on the sand at their feet. It seems to be normal. The population is small, but it is out in the middle of the desert. There seemed to be a few seedy individuals, but they were all heading into the gambling tent.

Khnurn pursed his lips and moved his gaze from Tet back to the lights. It was mostly safe, then. Any chaos creatures or servants of Apophis seemed to avoid being out in the open, if they were there at all. Was gambling chaotic enough to draw them in? The young man could think of a few less desirable things associated with the game, but chaos? It was just chance, as far as he knew.

"Shall we go in, then?" he asked, now looking to Zahra. "We can find a map, maybe some new clothes."

It looked as if Khnurn was nervous and impatient, which Zahra could not blame him for. She was just as nervous and impatient. What happened if there was nothing there? They'd have to keep going, and what if they didn't encounter another town for days? Or worse, what if the town was inhabited by chaos creatures? Would they know if Tet had been captured? Or worse killed? Would they know or would they have to guess?

Thankfully, a few minutes later Tet returns. Giving good news, well decently good. The town seemed fine and there were people. But would they be reliable? Considering the people Tet had found were heading for a gambling tent?

Were they just humans that liked things such as gambling? Or were they chaos creatures looking for gambling, which could cause a lot of chaos. Did they risk going in? After all, Tet didn't seem overly worried. But were their creatures able to detect chaos within things? Were Zahra and Khnurn able to?

Zahra looks sideways at Khnurn, a thoughtful look on her face. "Yes. But I recommend being on high alert. Obviously don't go in with weapons drawn, but be ready to draw them or flee."

Khnurn dipped his head in agreement and took his hand off of the hilt of his khopesh, which he hadn't even noticed he was gripping. He decided to walk into the town, leaving the creatures to follow or stay. Lookouts would be nice, but he wasn't sure any would be able to blend into a human city very well. Particularly not those with blatantly "unnatural" characteristics. Most of them carried at least one feature that would set off human alarm bells. It was then that he noticed one of the back creatures seemingly doubled over and dry heaving -- or just shaking? Khnurn paused and began to ask, "Are you okay?"

However, he only began the second word when the creature changed shapes. One moment, it was a golden jackal. The next, it was a yellow street dog. Khnurn blinked. "You all can do that?"

The sphinx narrowed its eyes and sent a jealous look towards the now-dog. "No. Some show great gifts and others remain hidden."

Khnurn nodded slowly, now a little uncomfortable at the envious sphinx's irritable behavior. The dog just bounced by it smugly and moved to stand next to Zahra before looking expectantly to Khnurn. He turned back to the city and kept walking, now feeling a little more reassured -- not only that their protection had increased, but also that they were not completely devoid of help and abilities in this godless wilderness.

Zahra had noticed Khnurn was holding onto his khopesh, which while she said nothing about it, she did not blame him. She was just on edge and if they had to go in without their creatures and encountered something dangerous, then they were in trouble. Yet one of the creatures started acting weird and Zahra tips her head, turning towards the creature. Ta follows Zahra's example, but did not seem as worried as either human. What was happening? Was the creature okay?

Relief flashes through Zahra the moment that the creature changes shape, though shock soon followed. She was glad that the creature was okay, but shape shifting?

Though the sphinx seemed jealous and Ta shakes his head, only a brief amount of amusement showing in his eyes.

Zahra blinks at the sphinx, then the dog as it came to a halt beside her. "Ta? Are you going?" The large winged wolf shakes his head, no, I'm staying here. But I'll be nearby. Zahra nods as she turns towards Khnurn, following after him as he sets off. Nerves rocketing through her system. She hoped that they would find something helpful and would face little to no issues. Though knowing Ta and the creatures that were not going would be nearby made Zahra a little more relieved.

(I am so sorry; I completely forgot to respond to this)

Khnurn became painfully aware of the crunch, swish, hisss of the sand beneath his sandals as they walked forward. The dog's lighter steps were still sending sprays of sand backwards, and the creature itself seemed unencumbered by any hesitancy or wariness. That was somewhat reassuring to the young man, as he figured that this guide would be quite in tune with its supernatural alertness despite having assumed a less impressive form.

As they drew nearer, he could hear the faint murmurings of city life begin to pick up volume. There were at least a few merchants still out selling their wares; their arguing and bartering was noticeable even from this distance. He began to smell it, too -- roasted meats, hundreds of spices, smoke and fermenting fruits. It seemed fairly lively for its size and the late hour. Khnurn began to make out faces near the wide gap in the wall that marked the entrance. Nobody had noticed them yet, or they just did not care.

The language they were speaking seemed foreign at first, almost familiar but also jumbled and slurred, before his ears slowly tuned into it and he recognized their words. Looking to Zahra, he tilted his head and guessed, "Arabic? Am I speaking it now, or can I just understand it?"

(All is good! I have been inactive recently as well^^)

Skittish. That was a good word to describe Zahra. She felt like suddenly everything was amplified. The sounds, the smells, the sights... Everything. She figured the fact that the dog hadn't freaked out yet, nor had the rest of their creatures, that they were safe. Or at least unthreatened for now. Or... There was evil that their creatures couldn't detect. What if there was? What if they were ambushed? Were Zahra and Khnurn ready to defend themselves?

Zahra forces herself to quit overthinking as they get closer to the city. She did relax a little at the sounds of normal city life, or what her so called memories told her was normal city life. The sound of humans... And the smell of... food? Zahra wrinkles her nose slightly, wow, that was a powerful smell. Had they not been noticed yet? That surprised Zahra.

Zahra picked up on the words decently quick, but the closer they got, the easier it was to understand it. Zahra glances back at Khnurn,"I'm not sure. Perhaps both. I understand it as well." Perhaps they both understood it. Was it some kind of magic? Or from the knowledge gifted to them?

Hopefully, he was actually speaking it. It would be rather awkward, he decided, if someone did decide to talk to them and Khnurn responded in a language that had been dead for thousands of years now. He grimaced at the thought of what sort of trouble that would get the pair into. Looking to Zahra for a second, he said, "We'll find out soon enough, I'm sure."

He was beginning to get used to the strangeness that now surrounded them. Dead gods, a vengeful monster, telepathic guardians, foreign languages,... Never in a thousand years could he have guessed- well, but then it had been over a thousand years. Khnurn shook his head and ran a hand through his dark hair before perking up at the sight of a clothing shop up ahead.

"Zahra," he alerted, gesturing to it. The sample of apparel displayed at the front was bland, long, and not much like anything Khnurn had ever seen, let alone worn. "We have to wear that?"
