His dark eyes scanned the woman, assessing her. She was rather tall for a woman, although he still had a few inches on her. Her red hair was messy and windblown, and he watched as her beast shrunk to a smaller size and leapt to her shoulder, his face still set in a scowl. Kaiser gripped the reins in his left hand, his right within easy reach of his weapons, the tattoos covering them standing out against his brown skin. The sun was setting slowly, and he needed to find the watchers before dark. If they were smart, they would have heard the commotion earlier and gone back to the base. Now that the beast had shrunk, he was able to get past them. But gosh, was he itching for a fight. His scowl deepened when the woman spoke, a rather irritating grin splitting her face. Well, that made up his mind. He reined his horse to the right, galloping for the forest in front of him. He wasn't about to sit around and be taunted by some irritating brat who thought she was all high and mighty because she rode a dragon. He had better things to do. Kaiser's braid whipped behind him as he vanished into the trees, riding in the direction he had sent the watchers.

Johanna glared at the spot of trees in which the man disappeared. Rude! Not even going to say hi or nothing! She thought for a minute then looked at Ryko. "What if we go say hi to him ourselves then?" Ryko grinned and turned to the size of a horse, able to creep through the trees unnoticed. With that they slipped into the undergrowth, following the trail of the stranger.

Kaiser slowed his horse to a trot as the sun continued to set. He searched the woods until the stars made their appearance and the sun had gone down. Finally, his exhaustion got the better of him and he dismounted where he deemed fit. If the watchers were smart, they were back at the base. If they weren't, then that wasn't his problem. He tied his horse to a tree, deciding to camp in the forest for the night instead of making the long trek back to the base. He started a small fire, taking an apple out of his saddlebag to eat. As the moon rose higher in the sky, he sat with his back against a tree, keeping his ears open and eyes alert as the fire crackled.

Jo and Ryko tracked the stranger for an hour before they heard a crashing on the timber to their right. Jo drew her sword with a grin. Finally. The thing was stomping around so loud Johanna thought her deaf war-veteren uncle could hear him. Hmm. I thought he was stealthilyer than this. The stranger burst out of the trees on an ugly creme horse. Ack! That's not the stranger! It's Donovan! She should have guessed. Her brother was the least stealthy person in the whole wide world! "Donovan! What are you doing here?" "Looking for you you little brat! What are you doing here? Supper is ready! I've been looking for you for half an hour!" "But I'm-" Wait a minute. No. Donovan would tell everyone in the whole wide world. "Fiiine. Let's go." Donovan rolled his eyes and pulled his horse around. "Hey Donny, I'll race ya home!" "On Ryko? Ya no. You know your gonna win." "No wait! I'll just have him run, I swear! He'll stay small, won't you boy?" Donovan eyed her suspiciously, but he trusted the dragon. "Fine. Ready, set, go!"
