What do y'all think about this? It's really nothing more than me playing with multiple brushes. Her name is "She" because I'm really uncreative when it comes to names.

No Quarter | Nureongi - Stray | Location: The Lighthouse | Mentions: Fahren, Shiro (direct)

A silver needle of cold pierced his skin. Ears pressed out of the way reflexively, No Quarter looked up with hesitance at the ongoing inspection of his head, conducted by a tall stranger Borzoi.

Even a soft pet dog had the nose to find his food in the sand, and No Quarter only seemed to fully become aware of the risks he took seconds before incurring the consequences. He carried his years of street dog experience in the way his skin was ill-fitting and how obviously his ribs and spine stuck out but nearly half of what he wore on him was a direct result of his own recklessness and stupidity.

He often wondered how he hadn't died yet. He clearly had no business passing on his genes. Even more apparently, No Quarter wasn't the gorgeous product of a cumulative effort of highly-evolved and sophisticated street dog ancestors. No Quarter was weak, ineffective at running long distances, and better at evasion and scavenging than anything you'd see on a drama TV show about the doings of island pack dogs.

Quart sat quietly under the nose of the Borzoi, moving his head half an inch to the left, half an inch to the right, left, right, left, right. . .

How strange. What was this dog looking for?

At a distance, walking feet.

And here was another dog, one the tall Borzoi seemed too interested in sniffing his head to acknowledge. Aproaching from the rear, the dog would have had the advantage of stealth if not for the bright colors and clunky -- but tasteful -- gear it wore, and the incredibly small size.

"Greetings, little miss." No Quarter rasped softly, looking fondly upon the small... Akita..? thing..? before him.

Hondo and Chase l Males l Dutch Shepherd l M: Open!, Blu
.
Luckily it seemed no one had heard them. Hondo picked up his catch and took it back to Chase. "We should go take these somewhere else." He said, looking around. "Someone could have heard us." He picked up his mouse, and Chase picked up his. They were walking out when they saw a Coonhound. Hondo dropped his catch and growled at the bigger dog. Chase looked at his brother and dropped his catch. Chase growled as well. "Who are you?" He growled, hunches lowered ready to spring if nessacry.

Blu also growled but he stood his ground before answering. "Well I was on my way to the park until I heard a loud noise and I figured to investigate on whoever made that sound surly it wasn't a human so I'm guessing it was you two." He he said not to mention that he hasn't been this social before usually he hates being social towards other dogs.

"Well we better be on our way." Chase said to Hondo, trying to calm him down. Hondo reluctantly stopped growling. He picked up his mouse and walked past to Coonhound. Chase followed looking towards the sky where a huge lighthouse lay in the distance. "Maybe we should go there." He said pointung towards the lighthouse with his muzzle. "Sure." Hondo replied, and they started at a steady trot towards the lighthouse.

Blu| Coonhound| Male| Stray| Mention: Chase and Hondo

Blu can tell that they are brothers who look out for each other he remembered his puppy hood that his siblings were also the same with him looking out for each other. If he was invited then maybe he won't be so alone but he doubted that Hondo and Chase will accept. So he continues his walk heading to the park.

Taco | Mix breed | Stray | Male| M: Ashanti

Getting into a dumpster is one thing; getting out of a dumpster is another. Luckily Taco had it mastered.

Well, sort of.

He scrambled up the sides of the slick, metal walls. It was particularly difficult with the rain still pouring, which caused everything to be more slippery. Along with several random pieces of trash, soggy boxes and ripped trash bags (courtesy of rodents, other strays, and himself) coated the bottom of the oversized tin basket. Random pieces of wood lay crooked, barely peeking out of the dumpster. This would be today’s way out, or at least it would be if Taco had thought of that. Instead, he tried a tactic that might’ve worked if the sky wasn’t crying.

Jump!

Black and white floppy ears bounced.

Jump!

Paws scraped across the metal.

Jump!

Struggling dog in the dumpster.

Taco landed back onto the strangely soft and deliciously stinky trash bags. As soon as his body hit the ground, he was back on his feet. He squinted his eyes in determination, bunching his muscles, ready to spring again. His stringy tail twitched. Like a leapfrog he soared again, his front paws hanging on the rim of the container; hind paws scratching the metal walls, desperate for traction. In a mix of whining and grunting, he heaved up on the wall and…. Kaplump!

Landing roughly on his curly rump, he made it out. One ear was folded inside out, but it straightened up when he looked to check the bruising on his bum. It didn’t look too bad, but it felt black and blue. Maybe even purple and green with some yellow touches in there too, he thought.

Leaving the alley, he headed for cover so he could dry off properly and maybe take a quick nap. He trotted past the wild roads and crazy cars until there was a far enough distance where they could no longer be spotted. Their howling, screeching, honking, and shouting still blurred together in his ears as he continued towards his drainpipe, which he found a few weeks ago.

It was a beat up, black strange thing with periodical wrinkles designed in the plastic. Taco had no idea how it got to the outskirts of the city, lying abandoned in a ditch. However, he did know that it was a shelter and, so far, it had been safe from both people and animals.

Rain splashed down on his coat and rolled down the grassy sloped ground, picking up dirt. His feet were getting muddier as time progressed. A scent, muggled with the rain and bleeding earth, caused him to abruptly halt. It was an aggravating scent, not that it smelled bad, but a scent that made him pause and think that something was off. He couldn’t put it right what it was though…. He snorted roughly, and trotted on—his brain still trying to track down what this smell was.

He spent the rest of the time pondering it, splashing down into a rapidly rushing creek. He didn’t like this part, but knew that a nice plastic tube waited for him where he could curl up safely. The water gushed towards him as he fought his way across its narrow, churning waters. It started to soak into his fur, penetrating his double coat. His skin became chilled and he shivered as he climbed out of the icy, paw-numbing water. He shook his fur off, mainly out of habit as it was still raining. Still, it did help relieve him of some of the water trapped beneath his fur. The same, annoying scent was stronger here, on the other side of the creek. This time he could place it.

Dog.

He became a statue. Alert in every way—ears perked, eyes watchful; nose twitching. His ears swiveled as he peered through the rain which streaked his vision. His nose caught on. Was she close? Was she watching?

He didn’t know, and was fearful. Was the way to his hideaway no longer safe? He wasn’t sure what to do. If he continued on, there was a change this stranger would follow and bully him out. If he didn’t, then he’d have crossed the cold creek for nothing. If he followed the scent, then he’d find this dog, but then what? Again, he wasn’t sure. So, he sat down on his still sore bottom to scratch his ears and think.

Fahren | Borzoi | Info | Pet |Mentions: No Quarter, Shiro
Wet fur. Unwashed wet fur. Wow, this dog smelled of dog, what a huge surprise. Even if the delicate sniff of the canine's head didn't exactly tell him an extraordinary amount, Fahren still deemed the activity hugely worth it. Stood almost completely rigid for a moment with slight twitches of his slender tail from side to side, the borzoi eventually finished his sniff and investigation of the top of the nureongi's head.

His attention was tragically pulled away from any further investigation as flopped ears pricked up to hear the distinctive squeak and ruffle of rubber rain boots. Lifting his head away from the other dog, he turned with some intrigue and even with the poor weather, hot pink was hard to miss.

With a slow wag of his tail, Fahren's mouth cracked open to a mild but nonetheless happy grin at the other small, white-coloured canine.
"Shiroooo." cooed the borzoi, always happy to see his equally pampered friend.

Blinking in slight surprise at the crude tone of the stray, his gaze slid back to the scrawny dog for a brief moment. Suppose he couldn't be surprised by the crass nature of some dogs.

Viyon | Large mutt | Info | Descendant | Mentions: Xianthos
Viyon watched lazily as the other descendant slowly made his way down into the river with him. He stared in silence for a moment, suddenly quite thankful that they were both large breeds who had no issues with the harsh current that was slowly building - he wouldn't be half surprised if the annual flooding was on its way.
At the inquiry of his new hobby, the large mutt decided that actions would display his enjoyment far better than any words would as he dipped his head back under the water. As the current washed through his fur and over his ears, he simply closed his eyes and gave himself another moment to enjoy the cooling sensation rush over him. To his mild surprise, a splash next to him alerted him to another head joining him under the water.

His moment of zen was tragically interrupted by Xianthos partaking in a much more entertaining activity - blowing bubbles. With a slight grumble, he pulled his head out of the water, deciding the best course of action was to smack the water with his tail and scatter a ray of droplets over the other canine.

No Quarter | Nureongi - Stray | Location: The Lighthouse | Mentions: Fahren, Shiro (direct)

No Quarter said nothing but now, looking back, laid with with his eyes fixed to the displaced mound of sand, sniffing the air to reassure him of the sandwich's position.

He crawled out from under the tall borzoi with a chopped rythym and slight sense of urgency.

"I'll be going now," he commented quietly.

No Quarter wasn't keen on intruding on personal affairs. It seemed these two knew each other.. and a scrawny nureongi, while not thinking lesser of himself next to the pet dogs, didn't have much business in this conversation.

He thought quietly of the life the dogs must have led.. and what must have brought them here? And even more briefly of what the borzoi must have been sniffing him for.

Anxiously, No Quarter dug up his sandwich, shook it free as possible of sand, saltwater, and ants, and made a beeline for the farmlands where he could eat in peace. He kicked up sand behind him as he ran, keen to leave the scene behind before either got the bright idea of taking what was his away from him.

Lark / Mutt / Pet / F / Mentions: N/A

Lark tensed slightly, feeling her crate shift beneath her as she opened her eyes and began to sit up.
The crate door swung open with an irritating squeak as AJ reached in and clipped a lead onto her flat collar.
"Alright c'mon time to go work, get some of that energy out." He gestured toward the front door, giving her a brief pat on the side, encouraging her to stand. Lark offered an enthusiastic tail wag in response, stepping out of the crate and approaching the front door, or as close as she was able to without causing tension on the leash. AJ opened the door, stepping out and shutting it behind them after double checking the lock.
Lark moved into a heel as the pair descended the staircase down to the pavement. AJ paused just as they reached the sidewalk, glancing back toward the front door with a sigh.
"Shit, i forgot your ball."
He hung the handle of her leadh overtop of the neighbors fence post, jogging back up the stairs and entering the building.
Lark pinned her ears back slightly as the rain began, thankfully no more than a light shower but the timing couldn't have been worse, not that she expected any less, she'd become fairly accumulated to the weather out here despite it being nothing like her first home. Not sure if a shelter can even be considered a home, but it was something and that something kept her sheltered and fed when she was unable to fend for herself. AJ returned a short time later with a neon orange rubber ball in hand, waving it around enticingly.
"Couldnt forget this, could we?" He tossed it into the air and Lark snatched it mid air as AJ took ahold of her leash and continued their walk toward the park.
"Let's get going then, before this rain gets any worse."

Kieran | GSD x Husky | Stray | Mentions: Open

The longer he walked, the more soaked he got due to the rain. Irritation scratched at every nerve in his body and by the time he reached the park, he was infuriated. Hating the weather more than ever, he slumped into a tunnel where dogs normally run through. Satisfied for the time being, Kieran's icey glare slightly glazed over as he lost himself in his thoughts. He was hungry no doubt, but thoughts of maybe interacting with other dogs had engulfed his thoughts. He was a social dog, and he hadn't socialized with others in well..a long time.

His claws flexed against the plastic of the tunnel and he let out a small huff. He had been on his own for a couple of years now but it seemed to never get any...easier. He closed his eyes, keen on getting a nap in so that maybe when he woke up, the rain would've quit.
