Larkspur || Warrior || M: Hunting Group

The tawny-pelted female moved along in silence, focusing on the wolves around her only enough to stay with the group and not accidentally wander off whilst following her nose. Several scents had caught her attention, however none were fresh enough to follow with confidence. Judging by the rest of the group's reactions, they had also not deemed them worth the effort. So, they continued on.

As Larkspur was towards the back of the group, she was catching the wind blowing off of everyone else. She had just snatched a whiff of something, so mixed with the scents of other wolves that she almost missed it. Oh, yes, she knew that scent --

"Deer."

Her ears pricked and she located the source of the voice. Arden, one of the alphas' sons, had changed his direction. "This way, I think."

Larkspur paused in her steps and eyed the older male. Artravis was quick to come up behind his brother and add his own input. She watched as his body tensed and he puffed up slightly, though it was not out of fear. Eagerness? Well, venison was certainly something to be excited over; who was to blame him? Her eyes remained on the second brother as he offered up his plan.

Theo appeared from the side, then, offering to scout. Larkspur turned to study the rest of the hunting party; Esmerelda had her eyes on the brothers and a thoughtful expression on her face. Rana had yet to say anything, as did Arden. So, Larkspur stepped forward and, directing her comment to Artravis, said, "I will join the group chasing."

She was better with speed and agility than brute strength anyway; this was more her forte. Larkspur had plenty of hunting practice singling out weaker animals -- this was just run of the mill for her. If the more physically strong wolves were waiting to ambush, she figured her placement would be best among those pushing from the back.

Afton - Offspring- Mentions: Arden, Artavis, Hunting Patrol

The Tournament was starting today.

It sent a shiver down his spine, in spite of the warming rays of light on his back. It was an event that was hard to keep out of his mind, having heard about it from the time he was a mere pup. The competition to decide who would be the next alpha. And doubts always lurked in the back of his mind, surfacing at odd times. Early that morning, while he had managed to ignore the whispers, the gossip, the doubts in his own head were inescapable. They followed him where others could not. Entering the competition was what he was destined for, the moment he had been born. It was in his blood.

It was his right.

His curse.

But now, stalking through the forest with his fellow packmates, his brothers, with the sun luring out prey and warming their backs; he couldn't bring himself to think about it. His focus was on bringing back food for the pack. But first, they had to find it. The sunlight on his body was welcome, his dark fur soaking up the warmth and he found himself relaxing the farther the group was from the camp, the tensions and doubts from earlier in the morning melting away. The brown hairs on his neck seemed lit aflame by the light of the sun, turning a fiery color amongst the silver hairs and black fur. His yellow eyes scanned the surrounding land with the intense focus of a hunter, the familiar trees and dense vegetation that made up the forest of the territory. Deep breaths expanding his chest every now and then for fresh prey smells in the air, his head dipping low to the ground and casting for scents, his ears listening for any sounds. While focused on finding prey, he still had an ear and eye out for unwanted visitors. He trusted the others did the same.

When he looked up ahead, he saw the tall form of Artavis at the front, his brother had been selected leader of the hunting party. Something that probably bothered his other brother, Arden, who was up near the front. As for himself, it didn't bother him; he had been the leader of a hunting patrol before, as had Arden, and and- well, any wolf basically could be the leader in this case. And the hunting patrol was as important to them as the patrols and chain of command. He passed another look around the surrounding forest, he took a few sharp inhales; nothing fresh. He opened his mouth, a pink tongue dangling from his jaws, panting lightly enough to not be heard; after all he had black fur and his pelt absorbed the heat very well.

"Deer."

The voice of Arden made him look up, focus shifting over to the mostly gray male who was now facing the opposite direction. His ears pricked forward. A thrill of excitement now ran through him, deer would be great, if they caught it. As he started moving forward, up from the place he had taken at the rear of the group; the sound of fast paced pawsteps coming up behind him caught his attention, his ears flicking backwards to hear better. As he turned his head, he saw the distinctive sunset-colored coat of Theo slowly moving toward them. Assured that it was not a stranger, he turned back and came up to his brother's side, on the side opposite Artavis. His keen nose picked up the scent of deer almost immediately, and he perked up, his head raising up just a bit with interest. He kept quiet as his brother spoke, following him as he walked forward. A hint of another scent made him pause, head tilted up so that his muzzle was high in the air, taking deep breaths to see if he could find another trace of that scent.

"I think I smell blood." Afton voiced his concern after Larkspur's comment. It didn't seem right, old or fresh or in-between, blood was distinctive and strong and was easy to scent. Something about it seemed...strange to the male. He could be making something big out of it when it really wasn't too important, but he decided that it was worth it to say something about it. He looked over to his brothers for a moment, then turned his gaze back where he had been looking. He felt a streak of uneasiness flash through him, cutting through the anticipation. His body was tensed, previously from eagerness, now with a undercurrent of alarm.

Chinook and Natan || Warriors || M: Akeena, Axel, Border Patrol

Chinook

The air grew colder as the group traveled further south towards the tundra. Chinook's massive paws hit slippery earth more than once; the water was beginning to freeze. The ice felt nice against his tired paw pads, though he was careful to place his steps in such a way that no one paw was ever solely on ice. There would be no traction were he to slide, and the male had no intentions of making a fool out of himself to that degree. He was vaguely aware of the skittering rocks set loose by the others in their patrol; Akeena and Axel were ahead of him, and Natan was bringing up the rear.

His mind was elsewhere and nowhere all at once. While Chinook's ears and eyes scanned their surroundings for threats, points of interest, and other patrol-related things, he had otherwise drifted off into a sort of thoughtless stasis. Out here, wolves were not constantly talking of the tournament or of whom they supported. There were no whispers or gossip or snide remarks. It was just him and a job, and that was all he wanted.

His semiconscious state was broken by Akeena's comment, followed by Axel's more irritated remark on her speed. Chinook rolled his eyes; so much for getting away from pack drama. Everyone seemed a bit on edge lately; whether it was the pending trials or something else that was bothering them all, it certainly made socializing all that more distasteful.

To avoid setting off either wolf, Chinook simply remained silent over the words exchanged. His opinion was not needed here. He was not leading this patrol, and, while he did not mind at all that Akeena had taken the head, pointing out as much to the appointed head of the patrol would surely only sink the general mood further. Plus, it just didn't matter.

"Do you see anything that stands out in particular?" he asked Akeena, shifting his dark amber gaze to her. She had the greatest vantage point at the moment, and if she could see anything that could be problematic before they reached it, the patrol would go much smoother. That was all Chinook cared about, at the moment. He just wanted to get back to camp without a spitfire argument popping up.

Natan

The tan and brown male had taken up the rear of the border patrol. He did not mind the position in the least; actually, being in the back was quite alright with him. Natan's mind was wandering as he peered around the thinning forest. He thought of the tournament and how everything would be announced that night. Would anyone dare challenge the offspring this go-around? Natan had a few that he suspected, but who knew for sure?

He focused once again on the patrol as Akeena stopped and mentioned the view. Natan threw in an "I'll bet" before Axel chided the female for moving ahead. Natan looked anywhere but at the two, deciding to avoid intervening. Chinook had the same idea, apparently. When the larger male sent his question to Akeena, Natan also shifted his gaze to her. Last time he had been on this route, it had been much snowier; perhaps there would be less to worry about now.

Or there could have been things unearthed by the melting snow, but Natan figured that the pass would still be safe to cross, especially considering how the waters around it would surely have swept away the snow to reveal dangerous sections long ago. But who knew? The young male shifted his gaze to Axel and sat down for a moment, waiting for the check to be complete.

Axel||Warrior||Male||M: Border check, Akeena, Natan, Chinook

Axel looked at the two then said "Natan and Akeena can patrol one side and me and Chinook will patrol the other." He looked over to Akeena and Natan then said "You guys take the far sides and howl if anything happens." Axel then change his gaze to Chinook. He said "Chinook me and you will take the other side." With this Axel looked and said "Lets get this over with so we can go back to camp."

Axel began to walk in the direction him and Chinook would go. He stopped and waited for Chinook before carrying on. Axel thought I wonder how things at camp are going? He sighed with snow clinging to his fur now. He shook out the snow clinging to his coat. Axel turned and looked at the group.

Sky||Female||Warrior||M: Yrsa

Sky stood up and decided to look for Yrsa. She walked over to the healers den and popped her head in. She said "Are you here Yrsa?" Sky pulled her head back out waiting for a response from Yrsa. She didn't know much about herbs but she did know other things.

Sky stood hoping to wake her legs back up since they fell asleep. She trotted in a straight line in camp because she was bored. She stopped once her legs woke up which she had been hearing a lot of gossip for the tournament. She wanted to join and she had only told her family and friends about it. Sky sighed sitting back down wanting to do something.

Ramos | Alpha | M: Alice[Directly] & others at camp

The large male lay on his side at camp. Letting a light breeze ruffle his fur and the sun's rays warm him. He had been up early, not sleeping the best the night before, the tournament keeping him awake. It had been on his mind most of the night, and many others might have experienced something similar, whether it was out of excitement or nerves. Although he didn't get the best sleep, the sunrise that morning had been delightful. Its gorgeous reds and oranges tinting the sky where a few scattered clouds layed. The day was going smooth and the weather was just right, what a perfect way to start off the tournament.

Later that day the participants would be announced and then the games would begin. Of course, he founds this exciting, seeing his son's full potential as they competed. Watching one of them win would be quite satisfying for the male, Ramos felt that as long as one of his sons won, he would be satisfied with their efforts, he hoped to keep a long generation of alphas.

After seeing the hunting patrol off Ramos had spent his time doing a little pacing, he knew they wouldn't be back for a while, considering they had only just left. It's not like he was concerned either, rather, he was anticipating the prey the patrol could bring back. The pack was large, and with so many mouths to feed an unsuccessful hunt would not be the greatest news.

The male stopped his pacing and ended up moving towards Alice. He hadn’t had a chance to speak with her yet this morning, and decided now would be a good time. Walking toward the white figure, he kept his voice low so he wouldn't startle her. “Morning my dear, what a lovely day for the tournament.”

Alice||Alpha||Female||M: Ramos

Alice had been sleeping and turned to see Ramos. She said "Good moring sweetheart." She stood up and strecthed then looed around in the den. Alice said "It is a good day for the tourament but how did you sleep dear you seem tired." Alice was hoping that one of there sons won the tounament to keep the alpha blood line going.

She looked at him and sat up wraping her tail around her paws. Alice was gonna hope for the best about the tournment. She figured most didn't get much sleep since the tournament was today but she was hoping at least Ramos did.

{Sorry if it is short ran out of ideas}

Arden - Offspring - Mentions: Hunting Party

Arden did not spare a glance towards his brother who had ambled up next to him. He had his focus already trained on the direction of the deer. The male was a determined one, to say the least. And when he put his mind to something, it could be like he had tunnel vision sometimes. But his ears still perked at the sound of his brother's voice, who had praised him. Arden could tell from the tone that his brother had been smiling, too. If there wa one thing that Arden was grateful for, it was that the tournament wasn't tearing him and his brothers apart. Not yet, at least. He would have to wait and see how Afton acted, but he was not too concerned over his and Artavis's relationship. His brother wasn't as set on the alpha position as Arden was.

"Yes. A mile, perhaps."

Arden's intense gaze still remained facing away from the group, but his ears twitched at the sound of his brother's directions. It was a solid plan, he had nothing else to add. He followed Artavis, who had set the group at a steady walking pace. "Sounds good to me. I can be a part of the group waiting ahead when it comes to it." He offered.

Theo's sudden voice was the first thing that broke Arden's gaze. He turned to see his friend, nodding as he offered to scout ahead. "I don't think it's a bad idea, Theo. If it's alright with Artavis, then you can go ahead and scout out whatever is up there then let us know."

I will join the group chasing.

Arden nodded in Larkspur's direction, blinking as he surveyed the rest of the group. "Alright. I will be in the group waiting, Larkspur is chasing. Where is everyone else going? We should try and split it up pretty evenly if possible. The more nimble can chase." Without even realizing it, Arden was a natural born leader. He didn't even mean to take charge, yet he did. It wasn't personal against his brother, either.

Before they could get very far at all, Afton mentioned blood. It made Arden pause in his tracks, taking a chance to glance around now. "Blood? Anything else?". Concern glistened in his eyes as he glanced to his brother, Afton. "Can you tell how close? Old or new?". He inhaled deeply, finally catching the same scent. And while blood was a very common thing to come across, this was a little different. Something was odd about it to Arden. He narrowed his eyes, "Something's up with it."

Akeena - Warrior - Mentions: Border Patrol

I wish you wouldn't always go ahead that much.

Axel's tone was obviously a bit annoyed. It didn't take a genius to figure it out. But his warning had rolled off her shoulders as soon as he had said it. She brushed the comment off with a casual flick of her tail. "Look, hun, I'm fine. We can't be on these rocks all day now, can we?". She sent him a small smile before jumping off the taller rock and making the final leaps onto the Tundra's terrain. Her soft landing was announced with a subtle crunch of the snow beneath her paws.

Akeena wasn't one to be pushed around by others. She was also not afraid to speak her mind, whether it be a flirtatious comment or to snap back at someone.

Did you see anything that stands out in particular?

Her hazel eyes met Chinook's amber one. She had to admit, he was a handsome fellow, but none of that mattered right now. He had asked a question. "Nothing out of the ordinary. But.." She narrowed her eyes for a moment, tilting her head a little as it seemed like she began to think to herself. "Well, there seemed like there was a carcass of some sort in the near horizon. And well, by the smell of it, it might be a seal carcass. Polar bear left overs, anyone?". It was obviously a joke. But it was probably a good idea to stay sharp with a predator around. "Lets keep an eye out so we don't end up as the second course, if the perpetrator is still around."

When Axel decided to split up the group, she eyed Natan before taking a couple steps closer to him. "Alright. Let's go."

Camilla//Warrior//M: Siblings

"Please? Just for a little bit? I hurt my paw earlier and snuggling makes me feel better!" A playful tone could be heard in one of the many shaded areas of the camp.

"I don't see how you, stupidly, not paying attention where you were stepping should be a punishment for me. You stepped on a small thorn. You're not even bleeding." A shadow growled at the other wolf. Her pearly white teeth showed more and more as the other she-wolf drew closer to her.

"Pretty please? With a cherry on top?" Camilla's eyes somehow grew larger as she scooted even closer. She usually just has to take her time and go slow with her approach for Oryx to give up fighting and let her do whatever. However, this time, Camilla only just made it to her sister's thigh before she got snapped at. Before she reaches back further, Camilla quickly went to work at making biscuits. This soothing action causes big grumpy wolves to settle down. Thankfully, it worked on Oryx this time. With a huff, the black she-wolf rested her head on top of her paws.

"Finally getting along?" A deep chuckle came from behind the duo. Camilla, still making her biscuits, wagged her tail in excitement when she saw it was Mateo talking to them. The bulky wolf gently gave Camilla a head bump before giving her breakfast. Mateo was well aware of the rules about the food and whatnot. At the end of the day, however, Mateo only really cares if his sisters get fed. Besides, its not like he's hiding away a whole moose. There's also no wolves in dire need of food.

"Did the rest come back yet?" Mateo asked the girls as he was about to attempt to give the same head bump to his twin. That is, if she didn't steal the food from his mouth before swatting at him. Her claws weren't out so that's a plus. He settled himself in a position where he surrounded his sisters with his body.

"None that we've seen!" Camilla replied with a smile.

"They left not too long ago, so who knows when they'll be back." Oryx added. The trio snuggled with one another in silence for a few minutes before Camilla spoke.

"The tournament is today. I'm excited to see who will become the next alpha. It's also our first time seeing such a thing, so I'm curious to see what happens."

The trio's family pack usually just give the title to the eldest sibling or to whoever they seem fit. It was easier to pick from the alpha litter, but living in the mountains didn't gaurantee many pups living for very long. So if the alpha pair doesn't have any pups to give the title, they can choose any member. Because of this, Mateo see's the tournament as a pointless thing. He was being tested for the title the second he was born. If his parents didn't like what they saw by the age of two, they're choosing someone else. Oryx also saw the whole thing as a waste of time. But really, it's not like she can't up and leave if the new alpha is causing her problems, so she doesn't really care. Camilla was raised by her older siblings on their own for a good chunk of her life when Mateo took her away from the family pack. Camilla was the last living pup in the litter when their mother passed away. So the young she-wolf never saw such a tradition for a title to pass on.

Rana
Warrior | Female | Hunting Patrol | Mentions: Those in the Hunting Patrol

The nervous she-wolf had kept to the back of the patrol as they moved, comfortable being in the position that left her the most unseen. She wasn't like many of the group, who were confident and comfortable being in the spotlight. In fact, she would much rather avoid the spotlight all together, let her sister have it like she wanted. As far as Rana was concerned, her sister, Cyra, could have all the attention. Only she wasn't here to do that this time.

She listened silently as the others spoke, their focus being on the deer they could smell not overly far from where they were at. She liked the strategy just fine, it was something she was used to, something she was comfortable with. Surely it was something she could do without her nerves getting the best of her.

Exhaling quietly she stepped forward, her eyes on Artavis, "I'll be best suited for the group that will be chasing the deer." Running down prey was one of the few things Rana was actually good at, her physique giving her the necessary endurance to keep going while others dropped off. The chase was one of the few things she enjoyed too, it was the only time she felt free of her nerves and her anxiety. However, everything up to the point was nerve wracking for her.

She glanced from Artavis to his brothers, and then the pale female she knew to be called Esme. Truthfully, while everyone here was friendly enough, her only friend was Artavis. Deciding to take comfort in his presence, as she had done before, using him as a social buffer basically, she quietly came up to his side so that he was effectively between her and the others, but not to where she couldn't partake in the discussion. She was also careful to make it obvious she wasn't trying to take over the hunt, just simply get into a better spot for the moment.

Her ears flicked when someone, she thought it was Afton, mentioned the smell of blood initially. At first she wasn't bothered by it's mentioned until she, along with the others it seemed, began to sense something.. off.. about the blood. She couldn't quite place her paw on what it was that was weird, but it set her on edge for the moment. The sooner they got to actually hunting, the sooner she would likely relax.

+Hearing one of the sons from the alpha agree to his idea, a soft smile speed on his lips knowing the voice all to well, his first friend since he was only a pup. Nodding at the males words he turns his head to the other sibling waiting to see if his plan was accepted or not as his stealth would be helpful in this situation+
.
+His ears perk at the mention of blood putting his nose to the air slowly the smell makes its way to his brain, weird but he will still scout ahead danger was something he hoped was not their, maybe it was just a dead deer or the smell of a weak one further then the rest of the herd stalling behind as of its injury restricting it to catch up with the rest+
.
+Joining the brothers at the head of the hunting patrol he ready himself to scout on ahead, his eyes turning to them his tail striaght unmoving showing his eagerness to go ahead, maybe alone was the best way incase their was danger he could quickly escape and tell the other before they arrived and were corners, sniffing the air once again he lets of a soft whimper before he looks at his friend with a soft smile+
