Kailani
Desert Pride | Female | Cubsitter | Mentions: Lionesses
.
Amber eyes glowed as the female focused on an old bull. It has been a while since Kailani has gone on a hunt due to her duty to take care of the young cubs. Kailani does indeed love her job and she wonders what the younglings are doing at the moment. However, she understood that Ismitta needed lionesses for this hunt. Many thoughts crossed her mind but the main one was Ridge Pride. She always found them to be a threat. They better hope the pride doesn't catch sight of them.
.
As the females grew closer to the herd, Kailani drew her attention to Ismitta warning them about Ridge Pride. We are pretty close, huh? The lioness thought to herself. They'll just have to be extra careful not to cross the border. Especially since the males are out patrolling. Kailani followed the Queens every step. If Kailani messes up in any way, she fears she will be held accountable for any failure. Kailani knows how to hunt. She just hasn't gone in a while.
.
Lifting her nose, Kailani could smell the scent of the other pride. The lioness made sure to stay low to blend in to her surrounding as she watched the prey they were about to attack. Looking at the other lionesses, Kailani awaited a signal to go. She was alerted and ready. Also aware of the pride that was not too far away from them.

Titilayo
Desert Pride | Cub | Female | Mentions: The Pride

The small cub, even for a 5 month old, looked like a snowflake amongst sand as she played around the rocks. Her circular ears flicked upon her head as she chased a beetle across the ground, the terrified insect scurrying for it's life to the nearest hole. A gleeful giggle produced from the youth's lips as she pounced at it, though her aim was hopeless and she missed before rolling across the ground.

After her unsuccessful "hunt" the little lioness laid there on the ground for a moment and let out a heavy sigh. A sigh too heavy for the likes of a 5 month old cub. She was the only existing cub in the pride for the time being, so that meant no cubs to play with. Her mother had gone on the hunt, so had the cub-sitter, and her pa had gone on a patrol. That left her with no one to play with or entertian her. Instead she was told to stay within the main camp site and to wait for someone to return.

Ti had no intention of leaving the camp site, but she was so bored. Her head to lolled to the side as she grumbled to herself, claws sheathing and unsheathing to leave little indents in the dirt. Idley she scratched at the loose soil, her ears flicking every now and then, completely oblivious to the world, her mind wurring a mile a minute.

Slowly she rose and glanced out passed the camp and flicked her tail. What if she just went a little ways? Not very far, but just a peak? She could go just a bit, make sure she could still see the tops of the rocks. Surely that would be okay? The cub didn't imagine her mom would be too angry if she fond it. IF. Another grin stretching across her face, the little lioness padded out, determined to have an adventure that wouldn't fully break the rules. No, just bend them a little.

Palika
Desert Pride | Hunter | Female | Mentions: Ismitta, Onyeka, Kailani, Viyan

The golden form moved expertly through the grass, topaz gaze fixed upon the herd. She kept note of her peripherals, keeping an idea of where her companions were. A successful hunt relied on teamwork, it always had and always would. Even if two of the lionesses, Onyeka and Kailani, were not females that she was intimately familiar with hunting with in recent times, Ismitta trusted their abilities, and so she trusted them.

The presence of her mother was spiking Ismitta's anxiety, Palika could see it in her friends figure. Even if the two were not blood related, the golden lioness thought of the Queen as a sister, and she knew the other felt the same. Onyeka, Ismitta's mother, had taken Palika in when her own mother had perished, after all. They'd grown up together, grown up practically attached at the hip, had gotten into trouble and scuffles together for as long as she could remember. Where one went, the other was never far off.

The lioness of gold flicked an ear towards Ismitta when the Queen spoke, and she made a small noise in agreement. The herd was large, an elderly bull trailing at the back--he was their aim. It was smart, a bull would be large enough to feed their pride, and an elderly one would be an easier takedown for inexperienced lionesses.

But Ismitta was right. The herd was drawing closer to the border, and if their competitors, Ridge Pride, caught wind of their hunt... Well, Palika didn't doubt that they would get challenged for the kill. And while they had yet to see how powerful Ridge Pride actually was, their reputation spoke volumes.

She feared few things in this world, but Ridge Pride may have very well been one of them.

Acantha
Ridge Pride | Queen | Female | Mentions: Neda, Pride Lionesses

Many things plagued the mind, as they did most days.

She would have to tell the pride eventually that she was pregnant, preferably sooner rather than later. She would have to ask her mate whether or not he would like to be included in her announcement, although she was sure that many members of her pride, for they were not idiotic creatures, would guess who the father of her offspring was even if she didn't tell them.

Next came the worries of their newest neighbours, the Desert Pride. She could make many assumptions about them--they were weak, injured, low on numbers, all horrible, horrible things she hoped. But she could never confirm that without seeing their numbers for herself, seeing the condition of their pride, seeing exactly what they were up against. Everyone knew of the bad things that had happened to the Desert Pride. A fire, terrible losses, but they were Kalahari Lions. Kalahari lions were tough, they were built bigger, stronger, more powerful. She'd have to be very, very careful.

A hunt would also be in order to feed the pride. And, likewise, it would boost the moral of the lionesses. She needed her hunters and warriors to be strong to fend off any attacks from the Desert Pride, and to aid in any confrontations that they may have at the border.

Ridge Pride had little to worry about from their other neighbours--it was Desert Pride that had gained their irritations, and the damaged pride would suffer for it.

"Neda, sister," the Queen softly called as she stood and made her way over to where she saw the other lioness. She bumped her head against the other in greeting, a thing that she, truly, only did with Neda and Crixus, her closest companions. Physical affection wasn't a big thing for her unless you were close to her. "Which direction do you think we should go on a hunt in?"

Kovanu || 5 || King || Ridge Pride || M: Crixus, Others (Ind)

The large, leucistic male narrowed his eyes against the sunlight; while it was not at its strongest, the rays were still enough to irritate him. Oh, how he preferred the blue vision of the nighttime. Patrolling was so much more enjoyable, then. Kovanu shook the clinging dust from his coat and prowled through the sparse grass to the inviting shade of a nearby tree.

Under his new umbrella, it was much easier for his eyes to adjust, allowing him to observe the horizon; now that the sun was not reflecting painfully, the savannah became more detailed, and the heat waves stopped blurring his vision. Far, far away, a small train of elephants could be seen as they traveled in the direction of one of the larger watering holes Kovanu knew of.

He scanned the rest of the horizon but found no other movements. Perhaps it was still too hot for an abundance of prey, but there would probably be a scavenger or two out and about. The pride lionesses would beat them to the best morsels, though -- Kovanu was the proud king of the greatest huntresses in Africa.

Puffing out his chest a little at the thought, he shook himself out once again and looked over to where his warrior, Crixus, was located. Slightly tilting his head, he called in a low voice, "Do you see anything of interest?"

Part of him braced for a snarky retort. Crixus was completely and utterly full of himself -- as he should be; he'd snagged the most powerful lioness Kovanu knew. The other part of him was not so on guard. He respected the other male. Perhaps they were not best friends, but Crixus was a good warrior and devoted to their Queen. Kovanu trusted him, at the very least.

Ismitta
Desert Pride | Queen | Mentions: Hunting Party

The lioness lead the group quietly and assuredly, her eyes never leaving the herd of herbivores ahead of them. With time she noticed the old bull lagging further and further behind, and she slowed her gait a bit in turn. Her eyes scanned around, and nodded gently as she formulated a plan.

"Alright," she spoke, calling the attention of those around her. "We're going to set up an ambush, it beats trying to chase him out right," her head nodded in the direction of the river bank to the right. It had a sudden drop on their side, nothing too drastic that would dissuade the wildebeest from going down it, but deep enough to hide lionesses for an ambush. The other side, the Ridge Pride's border, was a sharp cliff upwards, meaning any creature going up it would struggle. So if the initial ambush missed, they had a chance to reclaim him when he attempted to run up the cliff. Overall, it was a decent plan and the risk of injury was rather low.

"Viyan, Mother," she nodded to the two lionesses and motioned to the drying river. "I want you in the river bed just below that drop so it can't see you," she instructed to the two lionesses. Her mother and Viyan were pretty large lionesses and would be the best anchors for an ambush.

"Palika and Kailani will circle up ahead a bit, and drive him back this way and towards you. Adani and I will then flank from over here, ensuring he heads in the ambush's direction. Once he drops into the riverbed, the two ambushers will jump on him. If he gets free, or it misses, we will catch him when he tries to run up the other side. The four of us pushing him will come down on either side so if he tries to run down the river in either direction we will be there to stop him," she inhaled softly when she finished her explanation and flicked her tail. There wasn't a lot of room for argument in her voice, but, like always, Ismitta wasn't the type to ignore the concerns of others if they have them.

"If we do bring it down, we will call for the males so if Ridge Pride does show up we have back up. I'd like to drag it back to camp, or at least closer, but I know that's a lot," she let out a soft growl at the thought of the Ridge Pride. They best not mess up this hunt for her pride.

Crixus
Ridge Pride | Warrior | Male | Mentions: Kovanu, Acantha (Ind.)

The darker figure of a large lion moved only a few steps of the other lions he was with. With the King's pale coat, Crixus looked considerably darker than he normally does, though the male didn't mind. He imagined he faired better in the direct sun then their almighty king did.

He followed as the other male lead them under some shade and he glanced around at the other's question, eyes scanning warily. He grunted and shook his mane before answering, taking a moment to think over his response. "Nothing of interest has caught my eyes," a small smirk stretched over his features as his own inner monologue played alongside his words. Nothing had caught his interest since his Queen.

"However," she added on after a moment, vocals rolling out in a confident but lazy way, "it might do us well to travel to the river between us and that other pride, be sure there isn't anything going on there we need to know about. or if they've crossed over at all at any point." Crixus shrugged after speaking and glanced at the two higher ranked males.

Ultimately things would be up to them, and he didn't really have a problem with that. However, Crixus preferred to go on his patrols alone. He disliked the company of the other males, often feelings a bit sideways about it. On one hand, they out ranked him, not that he particularly minded, he was a skilled and respected warrior, and he was content with it. Yet, he also knew that not all were fond of his relationship with the Queen. It was taboo that her mate wasn't the Queen, let alone the father of her cubs. He didn't imagine it sat well with Kovanu that the Queen's offspring were sired by him, and therefore were the heirs rather than Kovanu's. Or, so Acantha had made it seem, and he wasn't about to doubt the words of his lady. No sir. Crixus liked living, he would prefer to keep it that way.

Palika
Desert Pride | Hunter | Female | Mentions: Hunting Party, Ismitta, Kailani

The lioness flicked her ears towards her Queen, listening intently to the orders for the hunt. An ambush, using the river and its steep banks to their advantage. Good, very good. The only thing that worried her was that, if Viyan and Onyeka did miss, or if the bull got out, or somehow got across the river, that Ridge Pride would force them from the kill.

Palika nudged Viyan with her shoulder, the bronze female looking slightly towards her. If Palika was a lioness of gold, eyes and all, Viyan was a beautiful amber, eyes and all. It was a wonder to her that Viyan did not have a mate, had not snagged Koen or one of the other males. But she had sired a beautiful little cub.

"Do not miss," she muttered lowly to her friend, watching those amber eyes flicker with recognition of a conjoined fear--Viyan understood where her mind had gone, and nodded.

Even if Palika was as close as blood, if not closer, with Ismitta, she had made somewhat of an effort to befriend her fellow hunters. They had to work beside one another tirelessly, they were bound to become friends one way or another. She wished to be at least acquaintances with the entire pride.

The golden lioness dropped back in the group to nestle herself beside Kailani, her designated partner for this part of the hunt. "Follow me," she whispered, the order not aimed to undermine the cubsitter, but merely acknowledge that Kailani wouldn't be as experienced at hunting as the hunters.

She split off from the main group expertly, leaving them to sort themselves and their positions out, and, whilst giving the herd a wide berth, followed the flow of the wildebeest herd. She found a position that could keep the pair hidden, not have the herd spot them, and give them an angle to chase the bull.

She waited, crouched so low that her stomach touched the ground, for the others to get into position before she signalled Kailani to make their move.

Kailani
Desert Pride | Female | Cubstitter | Mentions: Palika, Ismitta, Lionesses
.
As the Queen spoke to them about her plan, Kailani nodded in response. Kailani has always respected the Queen. She is a beautiful lioness with lots of intelligence and patience. No wonder she is fit for her position. Kailani trotted over by Palika's side and crouched as low as the female could go. Her eyes gazed over to their target. An old bull that kept falling behind the herd. Perfect. She thought.
.
I guess you could say that Kailani was feeling a bit worried. Hunting wasn't exactly her top role. She obviously knew the basics but she started thinking about everything that could go wrong in this hunt. A lot of things could go wrong. But Kailani had faith in everyone in this hunting party. She had faith in herself too, just not as much.
.
Flickering her ears, Kailani listened to the huntress' words. She nodded and stayed right beside her, awaiting a signal. I'm just a few moments, Kailani will be right beside Palika, chasing the bull down. How could Kailani mess this up? There were a lot of ways actually. She tried to push those negative thoughts away and focus on the hunt.

Viyan
Desert Pride | Hunter | Female | Mentions: Hunting Party, Ismitta, Palika, Onyeka

The bronze lioness stalked alongside the one of gold, Palika. They had a larger hunting party today, with six lionesses rather than the four that would normally be on the hunt. Ismitta, Palika, Adani, and herself. The four of them were quite a force to be reckoned with, hunters by trade and they were good at their job.

She could understand why the Queen had requested the two others to join them. Onyeka was experienced, and Kailani offered extra paws. When she had been pregnant with Titilayo, her own cub, she had feared that putting too much into a hunt would injure her offspring, so she'd stepped back from her role as a huntress at that time.

But now that her daughter was five months old, Viyan was back alongside her fellow hunters, putting herself and her body on the line to feed the pride.

The amber female perked her ears and listened to Ismitta's orders, slowly nodding her head. Hide on the riverbank with Onyeka and ambush the bull when it came towards them, it was an easy enough task. The only thing that made her concerned was the idea of making a kill so close to the Ridge Pride territory.

Unfortunately, the other pride had been nothing but... hostile. Would they try and take their kill? It was possible. It was even more likely to happen if the bull ended up on the other prides side of the river.

She turned her head slightly when Palika gently nudged her, hearing the words 'Do not miss,' come from the other lioness, and understood instantly that Palika's train of thought had followed her own. They were both very worried about Ridge Pride. If only to calm both of their nerves, Viyan nodded, watching the lioness of gold drop back to be beside Kailani. In the same movement, Viyan directed herself to be beside Onyeka, the elder of their pride.

She had very, very high respect for the elder. It took great skill to live long enough to become an elder, and it took even more to be an elder and live through what the pride had been through. So, if anything, Viyan was grateful to be partnered with the aged lioness.

Without a word, because who would dare to tell Onyeka when to move and when not to, Viyan began the descent down the side of the river, crouched and moving into a good position for the ambush.

Now, all there was to do was wait.
