Appearance
This mare is quite a sight, even by looking at her build and nothing else. She is strong and proportionate, standing at 15 hands and sporting an elegant but hardy frame. She has a softly sloping face, a slight dip from her withers to her flanks, and a lovely arching neck. Firm, well-placed hooves promise a steady, easily balanced gait and surefootedness.
Idrun is a grulla, technically, though her coat has a strong brown tint compared to others of her general coloration. She could also be described as a dark brown dun. Either way, her coat takes on a metallic sheen that shifts it more towards a bronze. Idrun's face and legs resemble melted dark chocolate -- almost, but not quite, black. She is a pinto and sports white splashes and streaks across her body as well as four stockings. Patches of her base coat do show through , especially by her elbows. She has a white, almost heart-shaped star and a thin, trailing stripe down to the bridge of her nose.
Idrun's eyes are her defining feature: while some horses have various shades of brown, and others have blue, she has green eyes. They are large and surrounded by dark, thick eyelashes, easily making them the first thing someone notices about her upon first meeting. Her eye color is rather startling. Captivating. Uncanny.
She may not be the tallest or most muscular animal out there, but she is stronger than she looks and fully capable of handling herself. When she cannot outsmart or outfight an opponent, she always has the option to run; Idrun is agile, and she has excellent stamina. Being the disinterested creature she is, Idrun is not one to start or accept physical altercations.
This mare has a moderate voice, not low, but not high pitched either. It has lulling inflections to it; it's the kind of voice you'd want to read a bedtime story. She can harden the soft and smooth, however, and her words can become icy and rigid if she so desires.
Personality
Independent -- Aloof -- Unfazed -- Mellow-ish -- Go With the Flow -- Loyal -- Curious -- Occasionally Competitive -- Fiercely Protective -- Will Steal Your Soul
Idrun isn't the most complex of mares. She is exactly what she seems: a matter-of-fact, down-to-earth, and intelligent mare. Despite being in a herd, and despite her rank within it, she is content to stand alone; being sociable and talkative were never her strong suits, and her position was most definitely not gained through shows of charisma and flare. Her standoffish nature could be mistaken for haughtiness or a holier-than-thou attitude, but she has put forth great effort to make sure that those within the herd know that it is not the case. She does not think of herself as above any other horse; rather, she is serving them to the best of her ability and occasionally snapping at someone for being an idiot.
While mares are stereotypically fiery and stubborn, Idrun is much more mellow. She certainly still has her moments, but it takes a fair bit of provocation before the demon emerges. This mare's patience extends beyond horses; she moves along with nature and doesn't get too upset over the worldly things out of her control, instead opting to improvise and adapt her previous plans. Idrun excels at switching things last minute when necessary, and her levelheadedness and experience are the keys to it. She has emotional displays down to a science, knowing just how much to show in order to let off steam while holding back the rest, and maintains her cool composure underneath pressing situations.
Despite her aloof nature, she does have a streak of curiosity, and she will never totally lose the filly-like competitiveness in her, either. While the mare is normally a busybody too preoccupied for such trivial things, she is known to occasionally race or frolick like a younger horse. But her competitive side extends to those she fancies or cares for, as well, and she can be a sore loser in those departments. Idrun has no issue becoming violent to protect those she loves, even if her guardianship becomes a bit too stifling for them. She will rein it in, but it will never completely disappear. To those who have gained the misfortune of being on her bad side, those unnerving eyes will hold bottomless malice and promises of nothing good to come. While it would be a stretch to call her a sadist, she'd be lying if she denied having at least a mild satisfaction in her enemies' downfalls.
She will never abandon her herd, even if some members annoy her more frequently than others, and she takes her duties seriously. Her family is her pride and joy. She lives to keep them safe, breathes to make them comfortable, and will die to keep them going. She may not be the most expressive individual, but there is no doubts as to her loyalty to those around her.
