Thane
~:::~
The air greeted him as he stepped outside, a gentle breeze drifting through his hair. The pair stood close and silent, this Thane did not mind in the slightest. Silence was comfortable, especially for a man who didn't know what to say half the time anymore. The sky was beautiful, littered in stars and the moon was glowing, its silver rays glittering faintly upon his skin as he took in its beauty.
"I don't expect it will be easy," He rumbled gently after she'd spoken, her soothing voice breaking the silence they'd shared. "But I'm glad to know you feel the same. Your company certainly makes it easier to forget the more unsavory memories of the last few years." Thane shared, sending a solemn grin her way before looking back at the sky. He stood still beside her, his hands again together behind his back, quietly observing the stars as silence fell between them once more. The breeze shifted, evident in the way loose strands of hair changed the direction in which they flowed around his face. After a moment or two, Thane lowered his head, his gaze dropping to the ground in thought. He wanted to speak, but getting his thoughts in order proved difficult at times.
....
Finally he lifted his chin again, having found the words. "Nefeli," He spoke, pausing briefly to make sure she was listening. His gaze was on her, the small reflections of stars glittering in his eyes. So much yet so little was written across his features, conflicting emotions evident in his eyes, yet a body language and expression so poised it was hard to see otherwise. "The past three years have felt so long, hearing it aloud makes me question if that's really all the time we spent apart from one another. I'm...certain I'm not the same man I was when you married me, and because of that I have a sneaking suspicion that perhaps I am not the only one who's experienced a change." He paused again, momentarily studying her face before continuing. His expression softened, a compassionate glimmer in his eyes. "I'd be lying if I said I am confident and prepared for the coming weeks, but I'd like it stated now that no matter how big of a fool I can be...I will always do my best to make sure you feel loved."
....
The hollowness of her chamber haunted him, the feeling in the atmosphere so suffocating and lonely. His nights were lonely enough the past three years, but he couldn't imagine how crippling it must have felt to be stuck here. Thane wasn't entirely oblivious to the way young Nefeli was treated by her father, but he by no means knew the extent to which she suffered in the years of his absence.
