Pride of Perils
Lions are no stranger to change, death, or challenge, living a very dangerous life from the moment they open their eyes. No pride knows this better than the Mahara Pride. With a slightly different hierarchy, the Mahara Pride is hanging by a threat, their peaceful balance on the edge of falling into chaos.
Their King has died, and while that is a blow to their power, it isn't the end for them. However, their Queen is aging rapidly, her golden years upon her, and yet she has named no successor of any of her daughters. No Heir Apparent has claimed the right to the thrown, as it isn't something they can just claim. It is something that must be earned, a tradition passed down through the lines of all previous Queens: the Future Queens are chosen by the Current, blood or not.
With her health fading fast, the current Queen, Macheeba, knows she must name an Heiress to her Throne. Her three daughters all in competition to win their mothers favor in hopes of being chosen. They know she is the only one who can name them, and while they all may be family, that does not mean blood won't be spilt.
With three different daughters all vying for the position of Queen, rallying support and pitting lions against lions, one must ask: Where does your allegiance lie? ___________________________________

Roleplay & Pride Rules The Rp Rules Follow all of Eve's and WPs Rules 1. This should be self explanatory but, Be Active. This means in Sign Ups, Discussion, and Rp. If you aren't for a 4 days, I'll remove you. 2. This is a Semi-Realistic Minimum Rp. So limited White Lions, potentially no Melanistic Ones. It'll be up to my Discretion. 3. This is also a Semi-Literate Minimum Rp. One paragraph with Decent Grammar and Spelling is required per character per post. No One-Liners. Ever. 4. I know it's a lot. But please read everything. Put blep in your form, hidden preferred, if you have. 5. No OOC Drama. While Drama is allowed and encouraged in Rp, it is not tolerated in OOC. 6. While I support LGBTQ+ , this is not the Rp for it. 7. While Females are likely to be higher in the hierarchy than males, please be realistic about fights. An adult female is unlikely to win in a fight against an adult male. There are exceptions though. 9. Please be realistic about Hunting Scenes as well. Prides hunt as a Pride for a reason. A single lioness cannot take down a water Buffalo, but she might be able to manage a wildebeest (though it's unlikely). 10. Again be reasonable about fights. You can't hit every attack, and you can't dodge every attack either.
11. Please come up with some sort of subplot or ship to help further the Rp.

The Pride Rules 1. The Queen is to be respected and listened to at all times, her words is law. To do otherwise is punishable.
2. A Queen may not be challenged. If a Queen is removed by the Pride, her Second will lead until a new Queen is chosen.
3. Mated Pairs must first seek permission before having Cubs.
4. Unjustified Killing amongst the Pride is strictly prohibited. Will result in exile or death.
5. Mistreatment of Cubs is Strictly Prohibited. Result is Exile or Death.
6. Queen, Second, Advisor, Heirs, Elders, Cubs and Mothers all eat first. The King may be allowed to as well. Everyone eats after.
7. Hunts are lead by the Queen, Second or an Appointed Lioness. This means no unplanned hunts.
8. Lions and Lionesses do not need to be mates to have Cubs. Both must consent though, as well as get the Queens approve for a litter.
9. Unplanned or Litters of Cubs who were not approved by the Queen may be: Left Behind or Taken from the Mother/Pair. Will add more if I think of them.

Hierarchy Explanation
Queen / Matriarch Supreme Ruler of the Pride. Current Queens choose their Heir, not based on blood, but of worthiness. A Lioness must prove herself to the Queen before being chosen. Typically a daughter takes over, but not always. In the case of a Queens untimely death, the Pride as a whole would choose a Queen unanimously, the Second ruling until then. But she is the most powerful Lion in the Pride. Her word is law, and her approval is highly sought after. To defy or disrespect her is almost a form of treason, and she is the one who decides punishments. This NOT a position that can be challenged. To challenge her for her rank would result in death, exile, or revolution. The Queen chooses who she has Cubs with, who her mate is, etc. She chooses the King.
King The King is not the same role it is in other prides. He is chosen by the Queen to help her lead, but her power is above his. If a King betrays or displeases his Queen enough, he can be removed and replaced by another. Being King doesn't mean he gets to be mates with the Queen either, nor that she will bare him Cubs. His role is primarily polítical. If the Queen chooses to be his mate, then she can, but it isn't required. That being said, any Cubs the King has have NO right to either throne. If a King dies, a new one is appointed, unless the Queen intends to step down soon. Then she may wait and allow the future Queen to pick.
Second in Command The Second is the Lioness who aids the Queen in leading. Not the same role as the Advisor, though similar. She is more physically likely to help lead. She helps train cubs, leads hunts, leads patrols, etc. She is like a brute force behind the queen, enforcing her will and making she the Queen is respected and listened to. She does advise as well, her position very similar to any Second in Command. She is also trained to lead if anything happens to the Queen and an heir isn't named. If this were to happen she would serve as Queen until the Pride chose, though she would have the opportunity to challenge the Pride and make her case if she desires. Though it is up to the Pride in the end. A Second is Chosen by a Queen. When a Future Queen is announced, her Second is also chosen, at which she will begin training. If a second dies, the Queen may or may not choose to pick another.
Advisor Thr Advisor is the lion who's sole responsibility is to help the Queen lead in a political sense. The advise on different things, and are crucial in helping new Queens make big decisions. They are also like another confidant, besides the second, someone who is loyal to the Queen above the Pride. It's an odd role, but necessary one. The role is one of the few less controlled by the Queen when it comes to succession. The Advisor is the only role that doesn't change when the Queen does, instead staying til they retire or die. However, when that Advisor decides its time to train a successor for their position, they do so with the Queen. The two will test their choice together, and if they pass, theylll begin training, if they don't, they will choose another. It's important to note two things. First, they do not have power in the same sense as the Second. They are a respected position, but they lead nothing, and weren't trained to. Second, they are usually female, but can be male.
Heirs
These are the daughters of the Queen, in this case there are three. Only her daughters are considered heirs, her sons not able to succeed. All her daughters have the same dominance or standing in the Pride until they are mature adult. Once they reach adulthood, they will have to find their footing in the Pride. This will help the Queen choose the next. Once an Heiress to the Throne has been chosen, the other daughters are referred to as Hunters/Huntresses, or Guardian if they choose. Before one is chosen though, the adult daughters will try to establish themselves within the Pride, and garner support. It's important to note that not all daughters have to want to be Queen. If they do not, they can make it known, but that doesn't mean they won't be chosen. A Chosen Heir cannot say no, and they do not have to be the Queen's Daughter either.
Guardians These are the cub sitters or mothers of the Pride. Their sole purpose is to take care of the Cubs in the Pride. Guardians have to types of Lionesses. Those who are permanently Guardians, so the females who take care of the Cubs as their constant role. And the females who are mothers. Mothers only act as Guardians until their Cubs are weaned. There is always at least one nursing female with the Cubs if any of them aren't weaned. All together, they are fierce females, dedicated to raising and protecting the Cubs of the females in the Pride. When the Queen has Cubs, one Guardian will be appointed the Royal Guardian, and her sole purpose will to be caring for the Queens Cubs when she isn't there. It's important to know that true Guardians will die before harm comes to any cub. They are respected among the Pride. They are also usually all female, as males aren't always trusted around Cubs unless he fathered them. Occasionally, though, a male will be allowed to be a Guardian but he will never be left alone with the Cubs.
Huntresses Huntresses are the bulk lionesses of the Pride. Do not let their title fool you, they do more than just hunt. They patrol, they fight, they do every job there is in the Pride, and they do it along side the males. There is a mild hierarchy among the Huntresses, the strong willed and fiery females often asserting themselves above the softer more quiet females. Often times, they will assert themselves above the males too. A Huntress is never left behind though. If she is injured, the Pride will care for her. If she is permanently disabled, they won't abandon her, they will find ways for her to benefit the Pride.
Defenders Defenders are the bulk males of the group. Like the Huntresses, they do a bit of everything and are expect to. Males are valuable, but since the hierarchy swings more towards females, the males have to prove themselves regularly. If a male proves to be useless or is trying anything to usurp the Queen, they are quickly relinquished of their position in the Pride. They aren't treated poorly, but they don't have the same standing as lionesses do. This being said, some males, respected and strong ones, can hold more dominance than the females.
Cubs These are the lions who are all under the age of two years old. They are to be cherished and protected within the Pride. Once Cubs turn a year old, they begin training. While female Cubs usually stay within the Pride, there is a chance the males will be ran from the Pride.
Elders These are the elderly lions of the Pride. Once a Lion or lioness reach the age where they can no longer perform, they become an elder. Typically an elder is no younger than 10, and they are never forced to step into the position if they don't want to. So if a lioness wants to hunt until her last breath, she is allowed to. Elders are highly respected though, and often become Story Tellers and help train and watch C |

A withered shell of a lioness, Macheeba is merely just a memory of the lioness she was before. Once a great and powerful female, the strength from her younger days lingers in her ages frame, reminiscent of what she once was. There is still elegance in the sloped curve of her back, though her physique looks much more frail than it used to. In her prime, Macheeba stood at 3.5 feet tall, a rather large and strong Lioness. She remains her powerful height, but with age her posture has deteriorated and she rarely stands at her full height anymore. In the past, Macheeba weighed about 380 lbs, but with time she has lost weight, unable to keep herself at a desireable weight. Now she appears skinny, almost brittle. She only weighs about 265 lbs, so she still have some strength to her, but nothing like before. It's obvious when looking at her though that she is deteriorating and likely doesn't have many years left in the world.
At a close inspection, the lioness has the typical tawny color for her coat. However, with her age and the scars on her body, it does appear more drab than others. It has lost its golden hue, and instead is more of a dull tan color. The lioness still has a beautiful elegance to her, grace making the stiff movements of her aged bones less prominent. She does have scars that litter her coat, not unfathomly so, but still notable. Besides these scars, Macheeba also carries worn teeth, decreasing the capability of her bite, as well as she is missing her upper right canine tooth. Her eyes, which have a bit of a foggyness to them, are a soft gold color with the slightest green hue.

Personality:Macheeba is a lioness that seems to be the personification of grace. The lioness is one who carries herself with poise and dignity, even with her age she manages to carry herself with pride. Macheeba is known for several things, those primarily being just, fair, and kind. She has been devoted, dedicated, to her pride since day one, and everything she has done has been to better the pride. She is a kind and caring creature, one who loves each member of her pride, and has taken the time to get to know them individually so she may know their needs in the future. However, the female is also fair and objective, able to handle things without letting her emotions or feelings get the better of her.
However, the past year has been hard on Macheeba. Not only has she lost her love, her mate, her King, but she also is faced with the pressure of naming the Future Queen. Unfortunately, seeing the good in everyone has made it difficult for her to choose, but also she is afraid of failing. If she chooses wrong, all her previous work will mean nothing. Her grief and worry has turned Macheeba into a rather sorrowful creature, not quite the same spirit she was the years before. Unfortunately, this toll on her mental health has caused her physical health to worsen, and part of her, a quiet part of her, knows she doesn't have long left in the world. And, the worst part? That part of her is okay with that.
Like she is physically, Macheeba is also a shell of who she used to be personality wise. She used to be a strong and fierce queen, while also being fair and kind. She still can be those things to an extent, but she has her limitations. Now, though, she focuses on primarily being kind and just, leaving the physicality up to the younger lions below her. However, she has traded her physicality for wisdom and patience, so there is little the lioness cant handle in that respect. One day, she hopes to pass on all her knowledge, hoping her last act is to guide the future queen into her role. Crush: None Mate: Deceased Cubs: Three daughters; Open, Res for Me, Res for Polly.

Nkosazana is a monstrous lioness, both in personality and in appearance. She is a physically large and fit lioness. Standing at 3' 7", the female isn't the largest in the pride, but her powerful build weighs close to 370 lbs, if not exactly. She has a stature of rippling muscle, perfectly designed for hunting, fighting, killing. To say the female is in peak physical condition would almost be an understatement, as she is in the middle of her prime. Despite her weight, though, the lioness might be heavy but she isn't hefty. If she weren't so tall she might be considered stocky, but her height gives her a more well balanced, well proportioned. Because her size, and her personality, Sazana could be a lioness who easily intimidates others, even some of the males.
Coat wise, she has a gleaming pelt of russet tan. Her coat is quite similar to the normal tawny color of other lionesses, however, it is slightly darker and has the slightest russet hue to it. Her underbelly is a softer cream color, the darker tan blending into it naturally so that she lightens along her belly and inside of her legs, as well as her neck and chin. Basically, she is your standard lioness, just a bit darker and red hued. She doesn't have as many scars along her coat as older lionesses do, but she has her fair share to prove she is an experienced lioness. None of them are noteworthy, other than the faded one on the bridge of her nose between her eyes. Her tail tip is a dark black color, while her nose is more of a pink color. Her eyes are a dark amber color, a deeper russet in color than what might be considered normal for lions. Her scent, though, is something interesting, being a combination of herbs, not floral, but more like refreshingly herby with a linger bite of spice. Honestly, spice is just the best word to describe her scent, however, it isn't over powering nor displeasing.
Personality:
Nkosazana is a lioness who, when she is on a warpath, you definitely don't want to be found in her way. She is a bold creature, confident and opinionated, not one to back down from any sort of fight or challenge. Saza is self assured, and her determination and stubbornness makes her a difficult adversary in anything. She's hard working, and you can bet there is little she will allow to slow her down, even stop her, when she has her mind set to something. A driven female, Saza pushes herself hard to always do better, be better, to acheive her goals, no matter who or what is in her path. It makes her quite the fierce lioness, someone you definitely want to have in your corner rather than standing opposite of you.
That being said, Nkosazana did not inherit too many of her mother's traits, taking more after her late father. She doesn't have the patience her mother has, instead tends to be a bit hot tempered about things. She is still young though, and patience is likely something she will learn over time. Her stubbornness and opinionated attitude often lead her to believing she is right, she has a hard time believing that she isn't. If she is wrong, and she realizes it, she likely won't ever admit it allowed, but will more so subtley change her tune. Saza is also a very prideful creature, and does not take kindly to being challenged. If she is disrespected or challenged, it's likely to bring out the worst in her, the vindictive or spiteful side of her. The side of her that won't hesitate to rip her claws into someone.
Despite all her flaws, Nkosazana is a passionate lioness. She believes in herself, and if she is close to someone, she believes whole heartedly in them as well. Her trust isn't hard to earn either, but when broken, you will never earn it back. This makes her a very "all in" kind of gal when it comes to relationships, courtships, matehood, etc. She would be a very devoted and loving mate, though she might be a lot for another to handle. Same when it came to being mother, she would be completely devoted to her cubs, though her expectations would be relatively high for them, and she would push them to be the best they can be. However, the cubs would also teach her how to be more patient, compassionate and understanding, and a mate might also be able to help her learn those as well. Crush:

Kamau is a male of substantial proportions, his size intimidating to many who are around him. He stands easily at nearly 4.5 feet tall, and weighs a bit over 550 lbs. He is a well muscled, heavy male one who quite seems to radiate power. If it were a different pride, he likely wouldn't be allowed to stay within the pride for fear he would try and take over because of his strength. If only they would trust his reliable and quiet disposition to know he wouldn't do anything to usurp someone unless absolutely necessary.
Built muscles ripple beneath a grey-tan coat with a creamy underbelly, emphasizing the different hued coat and the scars that adorn it. His mane is thick and full, a crown upon his head that covers his neck and trails over his shoulders before ending shortly after, and then down between his front legs, to trail off down his stomach. It's a medly of colors, starting at a dark blonde color, not the bright blonde of younger males but more of a brown blonde, and ending in a deep, dark brown that is a few shades lighter than black. His tail tip is the darkest brown color of his mane, and darkens as his mane does. The crown he wears, along with his size, is a testament to his strength, promising nothing but grievance if he were to be challenged.
The male holds black claws that are long and wickedly curved, like every lions. His nose is a dark color, not quite black, but too dark to be charcoal grey. His voice is a silken baritone, like melted chocolate over steel, powerful like the rest of him, but low and almost quiet most of the time. It can be comforting to hear when he speaks, lulling others into a sense of security. Kamau's scent is of woodsmoke, something pleasing to the senses. Personality:
