Ouray
Masculine | Wild Herd | Bachelor | Mentions: Chex
Indirectly Mentions: Saga, Toanouri, Chex, Noche, Inzhu, etc

Ouray's pace had quickened and slowed over the course of an hour, after all, he was mimicking the herd's own speed. It was clear that Anwir didn't understand what he was doing given the inconsistent walk, and why would he? Being a lead meant that you must face trial and error, but Anwir, well, he has always believed himself to be right, no matter what. There was no room for correction for him, thus, there was no room for learning. That was Anwir's first mistaken. Well, second, his first being when he screwed Ouray over.

The stallion continued, regardless of the pace or direction. He was unsure of what Anwir's true plan was. If he was truly pursuing these foreign mares, how would he eliminate the other competition? How could he guarantee himself the position of the lead stallion? No, he must have a plan. Anwir wouldn't walk into unknown territory without something, especially with enemies around.

The stallion was deep in thought, pondering and attempting to figure out just what his half-brother's plan was. However, when a distant figure was seen, Ouray's head jolted upwards, his body reacting and searching for a place to seek shelter. He couldn't risk being seen, not by a mare, not by Anwir, not by anybody. Granted, he trusted his herd, but even he knew that certain mares liked to speak, and the moment they knew, then so would Anwir. Thus, the onyx stallion was prepared to dive behind an elevated piece of land, until the figure's coat registered in his brain.

All at once, his actions halted, his gaze lifting to meet that of Chex's. Studying his closest friend, an individual that was a true brother, he picked up on his movements. They were slow, and the large stallion constantly offered glances his way. Ouray understood the meaning behind them.

It was safe to approach.

Slowly, the male made his way towards his companion, his pace slow at first and then quickening, until at last, he reached Chex's side. Now, Ouray wasn't a very affectionate individual, but at that moment, even he swept his head around his friend in greeting.

"Tell me, how is the herd? Saga? My children? Yours? Has he harmed them?" That was his biggest concern. Not where Anwir was going, not what he was planning to do, but the herd. His daughters, his nieces and single nephew. He needed reassurance that they were alright. He needed to know that they weren't harmed, and that Saga wasn't pushed away from her rightful position.

"Tell me everything."

Mirri
Broodmare Herd | Herd Mare | Mentions: Arashi, Cliodhna, Sage

The mare was miserable, to say the least. The world was a cold, wet place that squelched beneath her hooves. Her coat wasn't in it's pristine condition anymore, having had a layer of grime and mud displayed upon it. Her mane and tail, while shorter, were a bit tangled too, though it was hard to tell when the tassles were doused for so long.

A delicate hoof sank into the ground, and she pinned her ears in exasperation. This is ridiculous, she thought to herself, agitation was clear in her gait though. They didn't need to be tromping through the great outdoors looking for whatever it was Arashi was trying to lead them towards. They shouldn't be running away from stallions, they should be running towards them.

It was that Mirri was some little filly obsessed with the notion of true love and foals. No, the mare had a clear understanding that many stallions viewed the mares they collected as a testimony to their power and might. And Mirri didn't mind being a trophy for some brute to parade around. However, she wanted to be the trophy. The mare on top, the most valued and prized of them all. She wanted to be first. And it mattered little to Mir who she stepped on to get there.

Tossing her head the mare stepped a few more paces and glared heatedly at the grass that hung limp with mositure. Nasty. It was about one step away from soggy, and Mirri wasn't feeling it in the slightest. They deserved so much better, she deserved so much better.

Her ears flicked as idle conversation was made, but when a more masculine voice broke the air, her head lifted and she scowled about for a minute. Her eyes landed on a monochrome stallion, who, albeit was attractive, appeared on the young side. Surely not the stallion worthy of any of them, especially not her. She sneered slightly and flicked her tail, turning away from the creature she had designated a waste of time in a mere second.

Instead, the mare pranced a bit away from the group, and eyed the crastalline water at her hooves. If it was deep enough she would rinse off so her coat, and all it's sooty gloriousness, could be seen. Though, she felt it was a bit premature, since the scent of moisture still clung to the air, promising yet another downpour.

"I wish we could be somewhere dry," she groaned aloud, turning her fiery gaze towards the grouping of mares. Were they all so content to lead such a mediocre life of merely existing? Mirri couldn't be sure truthfully, but she wouldn't be surprised if some of the mares here truly were that simple.

Arashi | 6 | Lead Mare | Broodmare Herd | M: Bandit, Sage, Cadhla, Clíodhna

Arashi raised her head, her ears perked and a breeze made her mane sway as she swallowed a mouthful of deep green grass. She let out a relaxed sigh, her mind drifting astray from reality. Part of her had always longed for freedom, but Arashi missed racing- or, rather, the thoroughbred missed the thrill of it. Sure, she could race her herd mates or other horses that she happened to fall upon, but it'd never be the same. She’d never get to hear her jockey's excited cheers full of pride ever again, nor would she receive any treats from anybody after putting on a phenomenal race and winning first place. But, the thing that the ex-racehorse would never get used to was the absence of a roaring crowd after she’d just slowed down from a full-speed gallop and crossed the finish line. That made her heart ache with longing.

Just as Arashi was caught up in thought, she could hear a voice, although faint, before getting snapped back to real life. Before her stood Bandit, who, like Arashi, had previously been a racehorse, but now was left to face the dangers and elements of the wilderness. “This was quite the adventure I wasn’t planning on,” the mare mused, going on to say, “I have to say, though, I am looking forward to the storm.”

“I wasn’t planning on this journey either, it took me a bit by shock. But, it’s also turning out to be quite the thrill,” replied the lead mare, her ears forward but relaxed, trying to focus on what Bandit was saying to her. The comment about anticipating the storm Arashi was having a difficult time coming up for a reply to, though.

Arashi’s name in her time as a racehorse was, “Arashi No Naka,” which, in english, was said “Amidst The Storm.” However, Arashi had always just gone by the part of her name that meant “Storm,” thus giving herself the title of “Arashi.” In truth, the horse had never actually liked storms, and hadn’t really put much thought into her opinion on them. She just called herself Arashi because calling herself “Naka” would be the same as having the name “Amidst,” which did not make sense. Now that she put her mind to it, Arashi found that when she ran during the rain or heard the crack of thunder in the distance, it’d never affected her performance significantly. The rain was refreshing after a run, though. It cooled her down and felt good dripping down her fur.

“I’m not eager for the storm to arrive,” Arashi sniffed. “Although I’ve never really minded them, it’s an inconvenience in the way that the rain may slow down the speed at which we travel. Some horses do better than others in inclement weather like this, but for those that struggle, they may slip or fall behind if we decide to move at a faster pace.” Speaking of that, Arashi was still unsure of the abilities and capabilities of the horses of whom she was leading. She had to gauge on what they could and could not do, so that she could better get an idea of the chance that the herd would stand against the wilderness.

Just as she was sure she felt an ice-cold drop of water land on her soft, pink nose, Arashi spotted the silhouette of a horse down the river. They were quickly making their way down the river towards the broodmare herd, and Arashi took the presence of the horse as a sign that there were more to come. But, her herd mates were still waking up, she couldn’t force them into action now. She had to hold her ground, she was sure that she could fight the horse off, as he looked young and inexperienced.

As the stranger got closer and closer, slowly coming into view, Arashi could start to pick up on their scent. It was faint, masked by the smell of the rain that was soon to come and another overwhelming scent, but, by it Arashi understood that this horse was, in fact, a lone bachelor. She could see that his fur coloring was a mixture of buckskin with lighter, white splotches across his pelt. He didn’t have quite as much height on him as Arashi or Bandit, so either of the two mares could easily beat the newcomer in a fight. Arashi could beat anyone in a fight as far as she was concerned, after all, nobody was better than her.

Just as she was prepared to engage in a confrontation with the bachelor, who was all on his lonesome, Arashi was distracted by the sound of a voice next to her, and the voice did not happen to be Bandit’s. But, Arashi could recognize that voice anywhere. It was of a dear friend, after all. The lead mare instantly forgot about the possible threat encroaching on her vulnerable herd as Cadhla approached, the energeticness in her voice making happiness rise inside of Arashi. “Isn’t it marvelous? The sky, the mountains, the water, isn’t it all spectacular?”

“Sure is,” Arashi nickered, greeting her friend and giving her a smile. “Glad to see that you’re making the most out of our newfound freedom.”

Cadhla was Arashi’s dearest friend, who she’d known for a long time. Arashi held a fondness in her heart for the younger mare, and she’d do anything in her power to help out Cadhla in any way she could as the lead mare. Arashi’s warm gaze lingered on her friend as she got involved in another conversation with Bandit, talking more about the storm. Why was everybody so interested in the storm? Arashi just thought it was somewhat of a nuisance. But, hopefully it was the same way for anybody willing enough to attempt to track down the Broodmare herd, too.

Arashi looked towards the sky, a harsh breeze sending a chill down her spine. She had to get the herd moving, and soon. If her herd were to get caught up in the commotion of the storm now, it’d be hard to make the journey for shelter. The ex-racehorse thoroughbred was thinking of making her way down the valley or into the thick, medium sized forest just outside of it. The forest wouldn’t take long at all to get to, and would provide adequate shelter from the storm. But it was thick, so it would be hard to navigate around and may have predators such as wolves, cougars, or bears in it. On the other hand, making their way down the valley would almost ensure that the broodmare herd would be safe from potentially dangerous predators that lived in denser, more covered areas.

However, going down the valley was a gamble. What may lie at the end of it could be an open, unsheltered meadow, or what if it was a steep cliff’s edge? Additionally, it’d take a lot of time and energy to get there. The forest was their best bet in Arashi’s opinion, but she'd ask her second-in-command what she thought later.

Arashi’s attention immediately flipped towards Cadhla when the mare heard her name called. The question “have you given much thought as to where we’re going to head next?” arose, and, luckily, Arashi had, in fact, put a lot of thought into it.

“I’m thinking of taking refuge in the forest right outside of the valley,” Arashi rumbled, “but I’m going to ask Clíodhna what she thinks before I make my final decision. One thing is for sure, though, we’re going to move soon, or else we’ll get caught up in the storm.”

All of a sudden, an unfamiliar, masculine voice from behind Arashi made the horse go on her guard. “Pardon… but, are you from around here?” the bachelor said, the puzzlement in his voice crystal clear. "I apologize if I've been intruding on a herd's territory the past few weeks; I didn't realize someone had already claimed the stream."

Arashi’s eyes narrowed into slits, skeptical of the bachelor who she’d completely forgotten about; she’d gotten too absorbed into conversation. “Why does it matter to you if we’re from around here or not?” Asked the lead mare, stepping towards the bachelor; a drastic size difference between the two was evident, with Arashi being much more brutish and muscular, even for a former racehorse. “And if you’d been intruding on my herd’s territory, I assure you that you’d have had your ass beaten by now. You are not welcome here.”

Arashi may have been a little harsh with her wording, and the bachelor was young, so she felt a little bad. But, at the same time, she really didn’t. The bachelor was dumb; inexperienced. Why would he approach Arashi’s herd on his lonesome? Where was the rest of his band? Maybe he wasn’t able to get accepted into one, or had just left his herd. Either way, it didn’t matter to Arashi. He was just an insignificant worm on her herd’s path to leading a successful life in the wild.

Just then, the one Arashi had been waiting for showed up; Clíodhna. Arashi hadn’t even noticed that the deputy mare was awake, she’d been much too busy. "Arashi, we need to find shelter,” Clíodhna spoke. Arashi nodded to show her agreement, and was about to state her opinion on the matter before getting cut off by Clíodhna. "Rain might've been a good thing where you were held, but for me it's not. Rain means mudslides, flooding, and danger. And looking at the clouds we're due for more rain. Not to mention the predators out here, we cannot be so laxed."

Rude... thought Arashi.

“I’m completely aware of that, and plan on moving as soon as everybody appears ready. I’ve put some thought into it, and decided that moving down the valley is too much of a gamble; we don’t know what lies at the end of it. We’ll be entering the nearby forest, but I’d like your thoughts on what we should do, too.” Arashi replied with a slight, unnoticeable head bob.

"This valley brings back much nostalgia of my home, not here but in a different time. I am only saying we should move and shelter before we grow too tired. Not to mention, we're valuable commodities, so if we don't move, we'll be taken back to the shackles placed upon us by humans."

Clíodhna made a good point. But, first, they had to get rid of the bachelor that was blocking their path before making a move. Arashi watched as her second-in-command spoke to him, and felt a bit sorry. Clíodhna could be harsh sometimes.

“Clíodhna!” Arashi neighed. “When that is dealt with,” she paused, glaring at the lone bachelor in an attempt to threaten him. “Make sure that everybody is woken up and ready; we’re going to get moving soon.”

Sage || 3 || Bachelor || M: Broodmare Herd

He remained calm. His experiences of late with mares had all been like this; he was young, and he knew it. Sure, he was underestimated, but why bother flirting around with the likes of... old, naggy farts?

Sage kept a peaceful demeanor. No need to cause unneccessary trouble. When both mares had finished speaking, he responded, "My name is Sage. I've been frequenting the stream for a few weeks, which is why I asked whether you were from here or not. Had I been intruding, I would have left. That's why it matters to me.

"My birth herd is far from here, but there is one nearby. I crossed by them a few days ago. They do not own this territory; I believe they are from the mountains, but they've been moving. Quickly."

His brow furrowed briefly; he was still confused as to the why of the wild herd's actions. He thought it was stupid of them, especially so soon after the transition of lead stallions. Under his breath, he muttered, "Actually, that's probably why."

He turned his head to stare off with mild concern. If the herd moved too fast, he could get caught in the middle of it. Sage was tired; he didn't want to run into that new stallion. He seemed... violent. The dark grulla lowered his head to the stream to take a much needed drink before raising his head again to study the newcoming, older mare and the black tall one.

Both of them seemed to be trying to threaten him, which Sage found mildly amusing. They didn't seem to be from the rugged terrain at all; he was confident that he could just move up the mountain and they wouldn't give chase. They were built for more... speed. Not rock climbing.

Calmly, he responded to the black mare. "That doesn't need being dealt with. I am no threat to you or your herd, nor do I intend to be. Everyone out here is trying to survive and stay away from Anwir; that's the collective goal."

He gave a half-shrug and pawed at the water. "He's a nightmare."

Kavik || 1.7 || Wild Herd Yearling || M: Chex, Erzulie, Inzhu, Taonouri, Others (Ind)

Kavik swished his tail absently as he listened to his friend. After her first question, he replied thoughtfully, "Well... He hasn't told me anything point blank, but it sounded like we were moving to meet up with some new horses. I don't know if Anwir knows them or what."

The rumors had spread between the mares; through his mother's ears, Kavik had caught fleeting whispers, but he hadn't quite managed to piece it all together. "Whatever it is, my mother doesn't like it."

He turned to itch his flank which had been muddied some time during their wanderings. Kavik brought his head back up to look at Erzulie as Inzhu alerted him to her presence. With a whicker of a hello to his sister, he headbutted her shoulder gently and then stepped back to listen to her frustrations.

"Yeah, it'll get better soon," he echoed the bay filly's sentiments. "There are trees everywhere. I'm sure we'll find a nice grove to rest in. Even Anwir has to slow down some-"

He broke off as the black stallion whirled around. The chestnut paint colt's heart stopped for a moment, thinking that the new lead had heard his words, but was met with momentary relief when the stallion seemed to focus on the mares. His already cold blood froze, however, when he laid down the subtle threats towards the yearlings.

His jaw was still partially open when Chex made his appearance. Kavik hadn't registered Inzhu's words, so the big bay's frame in front of him came as a slight surprise. Snapping back into reality, the colt stood as tall as he could and looked up at his sire with a thoughtful expression. The words sunk in, and he nodded slowly.

"We are the only reliable stallions..."

Kavik's chest puffed out. Stallion? His father considered him a man! His ears pricked and he held his breath in an attempt to stifle his newfound surge of pride and excitement. In a rather high-pitched whisper that was not very masculine, he replied, "Okay."

As the stallion walked off, Kavik counted to ten before releasing his breath and mumbling, "Wow."

His attention was drawn to Taonouri as she hobbled over, and his brows furrowed in worry. Anwir wouldn't take kindly to an injured yearling, especially one related to Ouray. "Actually, we're supposed to keep an eye on Anwir. Like spying. We just have to stay at the front and make sure everything's okay. If something isn't, then we tell Da- uh, Chex."

Chex
Wild Herd | Lieutenant | Mentions: Ouray, Herd (Ind)

Chex watched the herd move, watched the way the mares and children flowed among one another, shifting like a river. Deceptively calm, deceptively peaceful. Dangerous, and unsturdy underbeath. Ouray had offered them a small stream to become calmer, whilst Anwir dragged them towards a waterfall, casting them back to the deadly rapids. The herd was falling apart. It had begun the moment Anwir cast Ouray aside.

He wasn't going to let it happen.

"Brother," he greeted the figure beside him, pushing his head against Ouray's shoulder softly, a sign of greeting and affection. He kept his eyes on the herd, watching for the signs of bodies, one chestnut and white, another bay, one a pale appaloosa, coming towards him to collect him in case of an emergency.

"Things are... as well as they can be," he muttered, baritone vocals dropping further in what could only be irritation. "No one has been physically harmed by him, but no one is happy. He has threatened our children, twice today. He told me to go to the back of the herd in case any of them 'fell behind', and mentioned how he was so... just and good for allowing the yearlings and foals to live."

Chex held but one opinion of Anwir: he was a monster.

And that was coming from a monster himself.

"Saga is still the Lead Mare, but Anwir constantly undermines her decisions and talks over her. I'm convinced he isn't even listening when she speaks." He spat the words out, ears pinning in agitation. "He listens to me, though, so I often reiterate her words, or speak directly to her so that he is forced to listen." Anwir never listened to the grey mare, and it angered him to no end.

"I am doing my best, brother. I am trying to protect the herd from one of its own supposed stallions. I've..." He swallowed thickly, keeping his eyes on the herd. "I've gotten the yearlings to help me. Kavik particularly. He's grown into a fine colt, Inzhu and Tao are growing into fine mares, alongside Erzulie. I've asked them to watch the herd, and come to collect me if they think anything at all is going awry, or is about to do so."

He regretted bringing his own children into the twisted mind games, regretted bringing the offspring of his chosen brother into it. But it was a necessary thing.

"Why can I not challenge him, brother? I could cast him out and give you back the herd."

Ouray
Masculine | Wild Herd | Bachelor | Mentions: Chex
Indirectly Mentions: Herd

His eyes watched the herd. From where he stood, he could see small glimpses of them, their bobbing figures looking worn out. How could he have put them in such a situation? How could he have let Anwir win? He was ashamed to say the least. Ashamed and disappointed. "I should have noticed the signs." He spoke quietly, watching the herd before shaking his head. There was no room for pity, not now. Ouray had been wallowing like a sad little colt for too long.

Shifting hiz gaze from the herd onto Chex, he listened. He listened to the update, a pit forming within his chest filled with the basics: anger, fear, loss.. "Just and good?" Ouray repeated, nearly scoffing. "Is that what he truly believes?" Pausing, his gaze shifted to the herd once more upon the mention of Anwir's threats. "I first believed that he wouldn't harm our children, after all, he needs the favour of Saga and the mares, but now.." Eyes narrowing, he snorted. "If any do fall behind, know for certain that I'll be there to collect them." Did Ouray believe that Anwir would harm the children? Yes, deep down, he did. Perhaps he wouldn't harm them yet. He did need Saga and the mares, but once the valley was reached and new mares were in sight, did he truly need them?

A small smile almost formed at the mention of Saga not being listened to. Trusted, it was no laughing or smiling matter, but Ouray was brought back to the past. Had he ever not listened to Saga, that was a punishment itself. The ridiculing he would have faced from her mixed with the glares would have him on the ground begging for forgiveness. The thought of Anwir disrespecting her? Ouray wouldn't have dreamt it. Thus, he couldn't help but release a chuckle, that's now unbelievable it sounded.

"That will be one of his greatest mistakes. The herd's true leader is Saga. Without her, there would be no herd. They need her. Tell me, brother, that you'll make him listen to her." His tone had dropped to an almost sorrowful one. "Tell her, when you're alone and when nobody is listening, that I'll return. Tell her not to leave, not yet. And tell her that I'm thinking about her." Nodding at his own words, Ouray, continued, "I know you're doing your best, you don't need to tell me. I trust you, and Kavik, Inzhu, Tao, Erzulie, they're good choices. Young, but smart enough that they could handle things. Though.. if it isn't too much, could you keep an extra eye on Taonoui?"

Ouray knew his daughter, knew of how she could act when somebody disrespected her and the herd. While he admired that side of her, he feared for her. Anwir knew no love. He was no uncle to Taonoui, he was no family. He wouldn't hesitate harming her, Ouray was sure of it. And his daughter, prideful and resilient, was the type to go against him. He needed to make sure that she wasn't hurt. That was his fatherly duty.

It was a pity that he wasn't with them all. Instead, he was forced to watch from the shadows as the children grew without him. Ouray never planned to stay away for very long, yet he still felt as if he was missing out.

Ears twitching, Ouray raised his head, eyes glancing up at Chex. "I need you not to challenge him for the sake of the herd," he began. Inhaling sharply, it was a clear sign that Ouray was beginning a lecture. "Anwir is already injured, to have you hurt will only put the herd in jeopardy. It needs at least one unharmed stallion, and I need that to be you. I'm confident that you could beat Anwir, but we're near the valley, and if this word about a group of mares is true, competition will be everywhere. Who do you think these competitors will target? Anwir, not you. And if Anwir is challenged, you'd still be there to protect the herd." He couldn't have Chex injured. It could ruin everything even more.

"Let's say you do beat Anwir and you become the lead, but then let's say another bigger, stronger stallion comes. If you get beaten, which trust me brother, I doubt, but if you get beaten, the herd has nobody. Not you, not me, and not Anwir. Just like that, we'd all be cast aside, and our children will perish. At least Anwir refuses to harm them immediately. A new stallion may eliminate them without a second thought, especially without you protecting them. I'd rather take my chances and have Anwir be the lead, at least for the time being. I don't want to risk the safety of our herd. So I ask you, brother, wait for me to return, because I will return."

Satisfied with his little speech, Ouray bobbed his head a singular time, a signature move of his when he agreed with himself. Though, his eyes did narrow once more. "I can't help but wonder how Anwir plans to rid the competition, however." It was minuscule, but Ouray was almost hinting for Chex to find out, if he could, of course.

"He can't simply waltz in there, could he?"

Noche || 4 || Wild Herd Mare || M: Nisaba, Tao, Anwir, Saga, Chex, the Yearling Squad

"Mother, you couldn't push him off a cliff," the pitch mare stated bluntly. True to her mischievous nature, though, she added, "That would be too easy."

She kept a steady gaze on her uncle, carefully calculating his movements. Were one to be made towards any of the yearlings or foals, Anwir would have more than just mothers swarming him. There were sisters here, too. And, sometimes, sisters were an even deadlier force to be reckoned with.

As Anwir turned and jolted off again, Noche's tense body relaxed somewhat. Her eyes stayed trained on the retreating shape of the black stallion, and then they eased down to where Chex stood with the yearlings; whether he was reassuring them or warning them or something entirely different was unknown to her. Her mother's sudden, uncharacteristically violent outburst, however, caused Noche to shift her gaze onto the bay mare.

"I'll be dead before he touches Inzhu," she assured Nisaba. "And I can put up enough of a fight to give them time to run if they need to."

She doubted it would come to that. Surely Chex and her father had some plan to regain the herd, and Noche didn't want any action of hers to impede in their progress. Still, the mare wanted to have a plan of her own. Just in case.

"I'll stay with her," she stated, nosing her dam. Noche broke into a smooth trot before halting beside the yearlings.

Mirri
Broomare Herd | Herd Mare | Mentions: Sage, Herd Mares, Anwir (ind.)

The fiery mare was paying little the conversation being held between the "leads" of their new herd, and the foreign stallion. It seemed they weren't overly fond of him, but also weren't very threatened by him either. Though, Mirri figured the idea of putting distance between them and him was something that pleased the leading mares of the herd.

Truly, Mirri took little interest in the young stallion and anything he had to say. However, something did catch her attention. Who was this Anwir character? Her ears twitched, swiveling towards the stallion as her head turned to face him, listening intently now.

The Arabian mare didn't hold the same sentiments as others in her herd, and desired nothing more than to find a powerful stallion to join. This.... Anwir.. seemed like he might fit the bill if he is as feared as the young stud seemed to make him out to be. Still, though, Mirri feigned as much disinterest as she could, not wanting to let the others around her know of her curiosity. Unfortunately, the mare wasn't known for subtlety, or patience, so it wasn't surprising that it lasted for mere minutes before she stepped forward.

"Who is this Anwir you speak of?" She flicked her ears and narrowed her eyes on the grullo equine, her neck arcing a bit to give her a better vantage point. She wasn't a tall mare, so whatever that helped her feel more defined always gave her more courage. Not that the female lacked it or confidence.

Riagan
Wild Herd | Yearling Colt | Mentions: Erzulie, Inzhu, Tao, Kavik, Anwir, Saga, etc.

The chestnut colt had been trailing behind his mother for most of the journey, keeping close to her since she was one he knew. Sure, Rian knew most of the herd, he had been there for two years, however, he didn't know them like her knew his mother. He was comfortable with her, she understood him, and never made him feel as anything less than enough. Not that the herd did, but he always felt a little.. different. But that was likely because he had no blood in the herd besides his mother, whereas everyone else had mothers, fathers, daughters, etc.

Rian's ears flicked as his eyes lingered on the mild commotion at the front of the herd, and the murmurs of the yearlings. Deciding to get an idea of what was going on, he departed from his mother's side and walked over to the other horses around his age.

His eyes immediately locked on two fillies. The first was one of his best friends, Inzhu. The bay filly was someone he felt comfortable with, almost as much as his mom, and referred to her as his best friend. The other was an appaloosa filly he knew to be Erzulie. It was hard not to notice her though, she was easily one of the prettiest in the herd, or so he thought.

Pinning his ears in embarrasment at his own thoughts, Rian stopped near them, and glanced around before speaking. "What's going on?" He had heard the new lead stallion making poorly veiled threats, but Riagan had made heavy efforts to stay out of the black stallions way, which often meant at a distance so he was never noticed. This also meant that he rarely fully heard what the lead was saying, and relied on the others around him for cues.

His ears flicked up as he spied Chex, the big lieutenant of the herd, traveling to the back of the group. His eyes flicked to his mom who had noticed the shift in position too, and wondered if, like him, she would also seek out information. Lu, as many of the herd called her, was a cautious and quiet mare, and did not like to be caught off guard if something was going to go down. She would just rather avoid it in general, that much Rian knew to be true.

Shaking his head, mane slapping against his neck, he turned his eyes back on the yearlings he stood by, glancing at them individually, as he waited to hear what they would say.
