Life used to be wonderful in the pride, until the king was killed. Life hasnt been the same since. Now the pride has been trying to mourn the death of their king, and struggling with a new way of life. The king died without a son to take over, and his only heir was his daughter, who is now the queen of the pride. Pride law requires her to find a mate before her next birthday, or get challenged for the throne. Will the pride continue with their traditions, or allow their new queen to rule the pride as she feels they need?
Amara had been up since the sun started to rise. Her blue eyes watching the sun on the horizon. Giving a small flick of her tail, the pale lioness felt a small breeze hit her. Through the fog she could see the movement of Midnight on his way back to the camp. Amara had sent him out to keep an eye out over the night while everyone slept. Since the death of her father, the new queen hadnt slept well at night, her dreams, well, more like nightmares, kept reminding her of the humans that were out there. They took her father, the pride's king, and now, she had to take over before she was ready. When Midnight just walked past her, Amara knew the the night had been clear of the humans, and now, it would soon be time for the rest of the pride to awaken, and the the hunting to begin.
Mira slowly stirred before she walked over and nuzzled her little sister, Aria awake. "Come on. Dont sleep in. I am sure that you will be training with the huntresses today" Mira said with a smile. Aria slowly lifted her head. "Um, alright" she said. Aria glanced over to her mother, Kiira, and sighed before she looked down. Aria knew she and her mother didnt have the best relationship, but seeing the other mothers with their cubs, Aria wondered why. *Did I ever do something to upset her* she thought before Aria looked at her paws. Aria heard Fae sleeping next to her, and wondered if she should wake up the other adolecent, but decided against it.
Tara was sound asleep in her own little den she made. She prefered to keep to herself thes days, usually telling the other adolecents to bug off, or usually ignoring most of the adults, well, except for the Queen, Lead Huntress, and the Lead Patrolling male. The others though, she would growl or just turn away. When she was a cub, she was more than happy to try to please everyone, but after her mother took off for no reason, leaving her behind, Tara grew cold. She slowly started coming around to Amara's father, but once the humans killed him, she shut down again.
Vire was sound asleep next to Selena. The male was usually up half the night to entertain the cubs, or to just keep watch to Selena could sleep. Vire had been like that since the day the cubs were born, and he felt like he had been on cloud nine with Selena and the cubs by his side.
Kaine was half asleep beside Hades, about ready to pass out. The male didnt sleep much after Hades had Winter, and now his wonderful mate nursed another cub after the mother died. He was proud that Hades jumped in to help, and he did his best to make sure there was extra food for them, but with him not hunting, it made it hard.
The creamy lioness had been up for a while. She was silently watching the Pride and when she saw others begin to stir her audits flicked up. It was a foggy morning and wasn't hot so it was a good time to hunt. They would have excellent cover and won't have to be so bothered by the heat. Getting up she stretched her limbs to warm them up and then she saw Amara. The Queen of the Pride and she smiled. She admired the younger female for her. strength to take over after the death of her father. The lioness scowled.
Her own father was a worthless thing. How dare he chose another female over her mother. The dame shook her head and heaved out a heavy sigh before moving. She had to forget the past because now she had duties and responsibilities. She had a niece to care for and a Pride to hunt for. Keeping her head high she made her way to Amara. A rare smile crossing her face and she sat next to the female.
”Good morning, my Queen. I would like permission to lead a hunting party. We will have excellent cover due to the fog and the heat won't be bad as it will later on.”
Hades woke up, stretching her paws. Her large tounge rolled out of her mouth, and a large yawn escaped her lips. She licked her paws clean, and turned to her young cub.
She smiled at her cub, watching the little ball of fur sleep. She decided she would allow her to stay sleeping for the time being. The queen hadn't called a meeting yet, so she was okay for now.
Hades lay her head in her head in her big paws, closing her eyes once more. she could afford a bit mores sleep, she was tired.
Luke woke up to a cool, foggy morning. He let out a yawn and smiled. perfect day for catching gazelle. He got to his paws, curling his tail around his back leg. He shook his large mane, and let out a roar.
He padded away from the rock that he had been sleeping behind, all hints of any tiredness escaping from his eyes, chased away by the intention for a good meal.
Despito rolled in his sleep, his mane sprawled on the ground around him. He ached in his back right leg, he had tripped over a rock the day before, causing him to stumble and twist his ankle slightly.
Not much damage had been done except for it had surprised him, and now his ankle hurt.
Niko and Aladora woke up to the cool foggy morning. Niko got up and stretched his whole body. He let out a yawn, closing his eyes tightly.
He was ready to go out on a patrol already, he wanted to do something. He got rather bored when he wasn't occupied.
Aladora rolled over, putting her paw on her face. She accidentally let out her claws and yelped as she pricked her eyelid and nose. She jumped up and whimpered silently, licking her paw and rubbing it on her face to try and soothe the pain.
Cyclone hadn't been able to sleep. The wild-maned male had spent the entire night patrolling the territory, still upset and in shock over the sudden death of the King. Cyclone had found himself somewhat wishing he could take over, but repeatedly pushed the thought away.
"The King just died. And you want to replace him, right now. Humble much?" Cyclone berated himself, every time the thought entered his head. The male knew he would not make the best King, he found himself getting too angry at too many lions too often.
Instead, Cyclone was somewhat content with doing what he was doing, but the pride was in turmoil. The new queen, Amara, would be inexperienced and would make many mistakes without the guidance of her father. Cyclone knew that she was a prime target for the older males in the pride- it was all too easy to use the inexperienced lioness to form a tyrranical monarchy.
He shook his head, his unkempt mane only becoming more messy. Cyclone stopped walking, and looked at the dirt. Life would be so difficult, from now on. "I don't know what I'm going to do. Leave the pride, and go off on my own? Or stay, and hope that I live?" Cyclone fought with himself, and he slashed at the dirt with his notably blunt claws.
Kiira/Female/Mentions: Mira, Aria
Opening her eyes, Kiira realized that her daughters were awake. Not wishing to talk to them, Kiira quickly closed her eyes again. This would be the most difficult part of the day, getting through interacting with them.
The lioness became an elder almost immediately after Aria's birth, and Kiira knew that having cubs that late in life is what finally drove her to the elder's den. If she'd stopped after having her older cubs, Kiira would probably still be in her prime, albeit still on the older side.
Letting out a soft snarl, Kiira pushed herself into a sitting position. That old fighting injury was hurting her back leg, and the elder struggled to get to her feet. After finally managing to do so, she nodded to her daughters. "Good morning." She spoke to them in a cool, almost formal manner.
The female padded out of the den, limping slightly. Kiira wanted to go hunting today, but it seemed as if her leg wouldn't let her. Looking towards the Leader's den, she sighed. "That blasted King, getting too close to the humans. Now look what happened to him." Kiira looked away from the leader's den in disgust.
"Now he's left his daughter to deal with his own mess. What kind of lion will become King next? We don't know!!" Kiira thought, padding to a more secluded spot in the camp.
The white lioness had yet to hear Amara’s response before someone approached. She gave a small smile and observed the male before her. Perhaps he could help them take down a larger specimen of water buffalo today? She was also going to ask the brute Samulayo to join them as well. However, her usually kind eyes grew increasingly icy as this younger lion began to speak. Did, he just blatantly disrespect the Queen? To her face and in front of her?
Her tail swished angrily as she watched him walk off. Who in the world did he think he was? The rude male even dared to walk off after saying such harsh words to Amara. Giving Amara a quick glance the lioness went after the young male. Her steps were swift as she made it a point to cut him off. Her eyes were icy and stern and her muzzle was wrinkled in displeasure.
”I believe you have lost your mind, cub.” the female said calmly, ” Amara is the only surviving heir and naturally she became Queen. If you have a problem with that keep it to yourself. Don't ever disrespect the Queen to her face again and if I even hear of you muttering some insolent words again I will not be so forgiving. Consider this a warning.” the female's voice never rose above an octave but you could tell she was dead serious and she was not pleased.
Amara had barely heard Kahina and Cyclone before she stood up. "The lionesses should be heading out soon" she said as she held her head high, flicking her tail to remind her that she probably wouldnt be hunting now that she had to be sure the pride was alright. She had yet to make her rounds to check on everyone like her father had done when he was still there. In the slight distance she spotted Mira and Aria together before she saw Mira walking over to their mother.
Mira walked up to Kiira. "Mother, you really should try to be more loving towards Aria" she said quietly as she glanced to her younger sister. "She thinks she did something wrong seeing that you treat her different than the other mothers and cubs" she said. Her eyes told Kiira that Mira understood why, but that Aria didnt being a young cub. "She probably thinks you absolutely hate her."
