the three kingdoms of aqela once lived in harmony. they held festivals every day, with dancing and music and food, praising their gods and thanking them for the prosperity of their homes.

life was good.

but nothing ever seems to last.

one day, great darkness passed over the skies of aqela, flying in from the east. no one knew where it had come from. it blotted out the sun and began to scorch the ground below; terrifying beasts, covered in scales and feathers, with the wings of bats and tails of scorpions. their guts spewed gas that ignited in blue flames when met with the air.

they took over the empire of tatuaniki, the queen of the horde at the center. they began to massacre everyone inside, executing those who refused to bow to the minobrei queen. the land fell into despair as the beasts slowly spread outward, claiming more and more land, infecting the people with their venom that turned them into mindless slaves.

the kingdoms of diadema and phyrisha tried to help, but their armies were slain effortlessly. the people cried for their gods to save them from the monstrous dictators, but nobody answered.

or so they thought.

a young man escaped from the village ukote of tatuaniki and fled to the woods of the northwest. there, he was approached by the draconic beast of cekena. the beast warned of the dangers to come but provided the man with a scroll and a golden ring, engraved with the runic name for the creation goddess. rhumdohr told the man that there were five other people, hailing from the villages of aqela; one from both o’rein and atella of diadema, a pair from palawe and okoyo of Phyrisha, and another person from mayndani, the brother village to the man’s own hometown.

rhumdohr said that these people were being approached by the other gods as they spoke, and were each given a similar scroll and item marking them the Chosen of the gods. the scroll would show their connection, and they could communicate with one another through it. he told him to go to the nannet plains, where he would meet up with his other Chosen comrades.

the man asked what the ring was for, but rhumdohr just smiled. “You’ll find out soon enough,” he said, and with that, he disappeared in a flash of warm sunbeams.

the man slipped the ring over his finger and clutched the scroll to his chest, before starting off to the nannet plains, determination in his eyes. he had seen first hand what had enslaved his kingdom, and now he was going to rebel against it. he prayed to the gods everyone was ready for what was about to come.

‧͙⁺˚*・༓☾✠☽༓・*˚⁺‧͙

there are three kingdoms of aqela, with two villages in each.

the first of the kingdoms and the eldest is Diadema, also known as the crown jewel of aqela. they are the most powerful of the kingdoms, with the largest army. the two villages are O'rein and Atella. they are located near each other in the Niaknoll Woods, with O'rein being farther North than Atella.

the second empire is Tatuaniki, nicknamed the hidden kingdom. they're a quiet and reclusive people, filled with scholars and artists. the two villages that reside inside the Balfait Mountains are Mayndani and Ukote.

the third and final kingdom is Phyrisha, called the realm of the crescent island. the villages reside next to a strange island, shaped like a crescent moon. the two villages are Palawe and Okoyo. they're set in the Nannet Plains, where our adventurers must meet up.

there will be a map added later.

‧͙⁺˚*・༓☾✠☽༓・*˚⁺‧͙

the gods they worship come to the holy number of 6.

the first god, and the holiest, is Cekena. she is the eldest, as she was the very first, born from the cosmic stardust that later formed aqela as we know it. she is the goddess of creation, childbirth, maternity, peace, tranquility, and familial love. her symbols include the lotus, golden ring, harp, scroll, honeybee, the lemniscate, and the dove. she appears as a young child of about nine, and she is always accompanied by her brother, Rhumdohr. every kingdom worships her, but the village that she favors most is Ukote.

the second god, and therefore the second eldest, is Ynmos. They are the two-headed, eight-limbed diety of teamwork, decisions, marriage, justice, opportunity, punishment, and fear. they are the ones that go out and provide justice to the mortals of aqela. their symbols are the number fourteen, two crowns of thorns interlocking, bars of gold, a scale and swords, a key, and petunias. the sacred village that worships Ynmos is Atella.

the third god is Boris, god of protection, the wild, beasts, forgiveness, humility, knowledge, exploration, the unknown, and music. he has the body of a bipedal boar with ram horns, and is often depicted with round spectacles. his symbols include the yldim (a pendant usually carved of stone or wood), a silver dagger, a shield, climbing ivy, an owl, and a lamp. he favors the village of Mayndani.

the fourth deity is Esthyores, a being that shifts their appearance as much as they do gender. they are the god of wind, sexual love, freedom, storms, revenge, travel, and ice. their symbols are the samara, rose, trefoil, maple leaves, rainclouds, thunderbolts, and the bat. they favor the village of Palawe.

the fifth god is Kreotl, a vengeful war spirit of spring, strength, war, mischief, deception, passion, and desire. she appears as a six-legged cervitaur, her body being that of a reindeer while her top half being a dark-skinned elven creature, with antlers protruding from her head. instead of a deer tail, a fox tail sprouts from her rump. her symbols are the spear, bear, vulpines, one-sided hammer, fire, snapdragon, and yellow iris. she is worshipped by the village of O'rein.

the final god is Nemus, a calm deity. he is the god of the afterlife, rivers, the final death, judgment, wealth, sickness, sacrifice, and paternity. he appears as a tall being, cloaked in shadows with a raven mask covering his face. his skin is obsidian black with hues of purple and blue. nubian goat horns curl from his head. his symbols include the raven, vulture, blindfold, skull, scythe, chrysanthemum, and snuffed candle. the village that favors him is Okoyo.

references to the gods will be added later.

‧͙⁺˚*・༓☾✠☽༓・*˚⁺‧͙

the creatures that infect the land are unknown to aqela. they have been deemed "minobrei", terrible beasts from across the harpshaw sea. they have the build of lions, with wolfish heads and faces. red scales cover their body, with crests of feathers atop their heads. dark bat-like wings sprout from their shoulders, and their thick bodies end in long scorpion-like tails. their claws and teeth are wickedly sharp and can pierce human flesh like butter.

they are thought to be closely related to another beast that resides on aqela, the kelrbos, which is a type of bat wolf that spits venom from its fangs.

references to both the minobrei and kelrbos will be added later.

1. Follow all of WP's rules, even if you don't like them!

2. The gods will be NPCs, and will not actually be a part of the roleplay (as in, they won't be chatting with you). However, they're still a very big part of the roleplay, obviously!

3. This fantastical roleplay will be set in medieval times, meaning no hoodies or sweatpants on your character. There will also be injuries, hunger, and possible death!

4. If you would like to physically fight with another character, please contact the person in PMs before engaging so that you may determine the winner.

5. Please, do not control someone else's character. If I catch you doing this, you will get a warning, and if you do it again, I will have no choice but to kick you from the roleplay.

6. This will be a literate roleplay, so 4-5 paragraphs with proper grammar, spacing, and punctuation, please!

7. If you have any questions about the world, gods, or the minobrei, please don't hesitate to ask me in PMs!

Aurelien Chevalier Thibaut || Male || 22 || Golden Ring || Cekena || Mentions: Open

The words of the holy dragon still rang in his head. He sat on a nearby log, placing the scroll next to him. He cradled his head in his hands, trying to absorb what just happened.

The gods were real. And the holy dragon of the creation goddess, Cekena, just appeared before him. The original fricking goddess. Holy crap.

He couldn't stop the pounding of his heart as his mind swirled. How was this possible? Why him? He was just some kid from Ukote, the son of a cowardly noble. What was so special about him?

If anything, he thought that Boris would approach him, seeing as he was a bard. But he would have to put his musical passion on hold for now; he had much more important matters to attend to. He stood up, taking a deep breath. He tousled his hair and rubbed his face, sighing. "The Nannet Plains," he mumbled, glancing down at the scroll beside him. With a shaky hand, he reached down and unrolled it. A map of Aqela was scrawled on the top half. There were several strange markings scattered all over, barely visible, but if Aurelien squinted just right, he could see them. Each one seemed to glow slightly as if it was engraved of gold.

Scanning the map, he noticed that one of the markings was to the Northwest, in the woods. For some strange reason, he got the sudden urge to tap the dot. He did so, and he gasped as his name slowly showed up, the letters small and just above the dot.

Surely it was some sort of godly magic. He looked down at the bottom of the scroll, which was oddly blank. Perhaps he was supposed to write in it? He hesitated, before sitting down again, pulling out his quill and jar of ink. Dipping the feather's tip in the inky substance, he scrawled a small doodle of a bird. The scroll vibrated slightly before the drawing faded away. Furrowing his brow in confusion, he turned the scroll over and brushed his fingers over the back, but to no avail. It was as if the ink completely disappeared. Except...

something nagged at the back of Aurelien's mind. Something Rhumdohr had said about the scroll... something about being able to communicate? Perhaps there were other scrolls like it. He assumed the others to be owned by priests. After all, who else could be so favored by the gods?

Other than him, apparently. He shook his head, before looking down at the ring. His fingers gently brushed against the ring, and he found it was surprisingly warm to the touch. He picked it up and began to examine it. It looked like an ordinary ring, other than the rune, lotuses, and doves engraved on the sides. He slipped it over his finger on his left hand, tilting his head to look at it.

He always had loved treasure, but he never owned any of his own. This ring felt like his own bit of treasure, and it made him feel prideful. He grinned crookedly at the bit of jewelry, before gathering up the rest of his items and standing once again. The Nannet Plains. He unrolled the scroll and traced his finger along the path. He would need to travel down south, across the river. It looked pretty small on the map. Perhaps it wouldn't be that bad?

Putting the scroll away in his satchel, he readjusted his clothing and put on a determined face, but he didn't feel very brave. In fact, he felt like his father; a cowardly bastard wanting to run away from the fight. But his mother was counting on him. Risette was counting on him, too. And apparently, so were the gods. He took another deep breath, and started to trek off into the woods.

Azalea Tonorios || female || 20 || key || M: Ynmos, Aurelien
~~~~~
Azalea traveled down the road bordered with thorns. Many would not have taken the path, but after meeting the two headed, eight armed Ynmos, Azalea found it hard not to follow the symbols of her god.
~~~~~
All Azalea knew was that she needed to go south, find whoever else the gods chose to save the world, and kick some minobrei ass. The minobrei would pay for what they did to her family.
~~~~~
Azalea still had nightmares about her brother. If only she had been at her house. She could have saved her family. Instead, the cowerdly minobrei killed Azalea's family, then fled into the woods. Later, Azalea had realized that her entire village had been attacked, and, as far as Azalea knew, there had been no survivors.
~~~~~
Azalea shook of her dark thoughts and realized that she was approaching a small town. Here, she would figure out where she was, and where she needed to go. But first, Azalea stopped at a tavern to eat. The tavern was full of drunk and even more drunk men, and a few barmaids. One drunk man started reaching towards Azalea, but his hand was met with the sharp edge of Azalea's blade. The man swore, but by then, Azalea was halfway across the room.
~~~~~
Once seated, Azalea ordered a simple bowl of the local soup. The soup was watery and plain, but that was to be expected in a place like this.
~~~~~
While eating, Azalea took a closer look at her new map. It showed only the top half of the world, which was strange. There were also strange, glowing marks on the map. When Azalea tapped a mark, a name popped up. Aurelien Chevalier Thibaut.
~~~~~
"Very strange." Azalea leaned closer to the map, debating what the bottom half was for. Then an idea popped into Azalea's head. Hadn't Ynmos said she could speak to the others with this map?
~~~~~
"Hello? Can anyone hear me?" Azalea whispered this into the bottom of the map, then waited to see if anything would happen.

With the stolen Palace horse she turned around, looking at the palace one last time, knowing the likelihood of her returning where slim to none. Her eyes where forward, with her mindset. Willing to forget most of what she left behind for this God. Something about them just made sense to her. Her hand went to her side, with it getting dark she wanted to be armed, just in case. A girl could never be to careful. She also took out the scroll once she rere-steadied herself, and slowed the horse. Let's see. I'm in Phyrisha, so the plains are... here. She ran her finger around the map, finding the Plains oddly central in the map. Shouldn't take long me all that long. Smiling a little more widely, her confidence more then settling in once more as her grip tightened on the reigns, the sea air slowly becoming distant.
Dead ahead she knee was a strip of woods a huntsman showed her. Using the map and a tad of memory she found a river and let the horse breath for a moment, tieing him up. She went upstream and splashed water in her face and looked at the map again. More closely this time. Seeing a dot. And what looked like a bird in a vibrant and thin gold ink. She grabbed the nearest berry and a stick. Sharpening the stick she then stabbed the berry, and a fee more for good measure. "This shouldn't be permanent. Right?" She looked at the horse halfway expecting him to reply. After dipping the stick in the red berry juice she drew a noticeable dot on the scroll. Then it faded into nothingness. Thats got to be a future me problem. Giggling at herself she put the scroll away and gripped the reigns, now untied, she hopped on the horse once more. The final stretch.
It didn't take long now, dashing and maneuvering around the trees like she was. The horse having been proved a hardy and well bread stead. The plains being in well, plain view she decided it was best to stay closer to the wooded edge, not wanting to giver per position away. One of the things her brother had taught her. Surprise.
She stayed there, taking out a blanket and tieing the horse up, reluctant to be completely alone. Grabbing a cantina of water she sat. Figuring not everyone was nearly as close as she remembering the map.

Kiran sat down on the rock holding the scroll and the deer antler dagger thing. He went into shock as realization kicked in.

He had met Kreotl! The woodland goddess! "How! How! How! Why me!" He yelled at himself the echoes of his cries reverberating down the cave spooking hundreds sleeping of bats screeching down the passage-way.

He dropped to the floor scattering the two objects across the wet ground, and covered his head until the winged mammals flew off out of the cave.

When they had all gone he quickly stood back up and grabbed the objects and ran out of the cave should he frighten any more creepy creatures.

Kiran ran for a while more before stopping to rest near a large rock. He decided to read the scroll. It was some sort of map. All over the page was an ancient transcript that he couldnt decipher. But it was clear to him where the Nannet Plains were. He hoped Kreotl would show up and tell him what to do!

He got up and walked around a bit. As he did he realized a small red dot that moved with him. A magic map? It was little wonder since it came from a god.

Kiran made a decision to go to the desert. He would go there and hopefully get more supplies then he currently had. He began his trek to the desert, and swung the antler danger thing experimentally. Was it to be used as a sword? He swung it up, and was suddenly flung into the air. A gaunt mushrooms had grown out of the ground. He dusted himself off, and picked up the antler dagger.

Kiran pointed the antler at the mushrooms and waved the thing down. It shrunk! He wave dit up and it grew. He waved it to the side and it lifted into the air! He moved it around and flung it against a tree.

So it controlled plants? He tried it on a leaf. He could move it up or down side to side, and even make it go bigger or smaller. Good to know.

A clatter of quick hooves echoed in the middle of nowhere. They weren't rhythmic and rather indicated that the owner of a horse hadn't decided to gallop toward the destination. It also seemed that white animal was getting tired.
.
Suddenly it just stopped. A female voice screamed in surprise when she hit the mount's neck. She shouldn't do that. By a sudden loud noise right next to horse head she scared it. Animal with neighing folded ears back and reared up. Then went galloping.
.
The rush of the wind threw a hood of cloak off the traveler's head, letting a long fair hair out of it. Girl, with horror on her face, pressed her body against the unbearable horse. Less than a day ago, she had got on this unruly mare for the first time. Then they had lost most of the time trying to get out of a swamp to which her companion accidentally turned when it saw a bird. Now the black mane of the horse that didn't respond to her commands effectively blocked her vision.
.
Nemus help me... Pale teen thought to herself. I can't do this! Unlucky rider wanted to stop the horse. But she wasn't sure if will be able to do that. It wasn't only about giving the appropriate command. Animal needs to know that what she is doing the right thing, and most of all, isn't afraid of it. And that was the main problem. But knowing it's the only one way she finally gathered courage and shifted her weight to back. Firmly blond gently pulled a reins towards her hoping that animal will listen to her.
.
It seemed that she managed to over take control. But with victory came another problem. Light mare didn't want to truly stop and only slow down to the trot. Neither requests, neither promises or a hard command worked. Terrified, already saying the last prayers, she tried to turn the horse. But her companion was still running blindly up a tree.

Kiran had been walking for hours. He followed the moving red dot to the nannet plains. It had taken him less long then he had expected. He began running. Then he waited. What if the other people who had been chosen weren't friendly? He doubted that but wanted to be cautious.
-
He walked for another two hours and came to a stream. He drank for a bit, filling the canteen along with the pack and food he had found in an old hermits cabin. The hermit was dead on the floor, and he had given the poor fellow a decent burial. Kiran hadn't expected to reach the plains this quickly, and decided no one had reached here as quickly as him. He decided to start walking toward the plains as he remembered that Kreotl was meeting him. He trusted her at least. He was so focused on getting to the plains he almost didn't see a girl sitting on the edge of the forest. He stood behind a tree. Could she be another chosen? "Friend or foe?" He called from his hidden position.

Aurelien Chevalier Thibaut || Male || 22 || Golden Ring || Cekena || Mentions: Open

As the young man walked, he hummed to himself. So far, the journey had been peaceful. He glanced up at the treetops and saw that the sun was now high in the sky. Suddenly, he felt his satchel shaking. He jumped sideways, startled, as he stared at his bag in fear. What if he had picked up some sort of rodent as he was sitting?

"Please, for the love of Cekena, don't let there be a rat," he prayed, crossing his fingers with his other hand.

He swallowed the lump in his throat, his hands shaking as he cautiously reached for the bag. Lifting the flap slowly, he peered inside but saw nothing out of the ordinary. "What?" he outright said, utterly confused, before lifting the flap more. Still, nothing strange. Except...

near the bottom of the bag, underneath all of his other belongings, there came a strange, golden light. As he noticed this light, the bag gave another shake. He lifted the furs that were piled on top of the object and saw the scroll. The entirety of it was glowing, and it shook again. "How curious," he mumbled, brushing his fingers over the parchment. As he made contact, the glowing faded away, and the shaking ceased.

He picked up the scroll, dropping the bag, and unrolled it. Nothing seemed out of place, except that both his own dot and most of the others had moved from the original places. He noticed that almost all of them had drifted closer to the Nannet Plains. Perhaps... perhaps they were his, ahem, "teammates"? He audibly scoffed at the word. He seriously doubted he would have to truly work with anyone; he hated being clumped in groups during school, so he would most likely hate working together to save Aqela or whatever. But surely, the dots' movements wouldn't have caused the scroll to move and glow?

He unrolled the scroll more and saw that the bottom half of the parchment wasn't completely blank anymore. A small, red dot, about the size of a berry, was visible. He waited for a moment, expecting it to do something. Dance, perhaps? But nothing happened, except it faded back into nothingness. He flipped the scroll over and scoffed. You would think a gift from a god would be useful.

He sighed heavily, shoving the scroll back into his satchel, and began to walk again. Honestly, this whole thing was useless. He saw what the minobrei could do. They should all just give in now before they were all killed. Besides, his ring hadn't done anything. How was it supposed to help him at all? A flash of his mother and Risette appeared in his mind, but he forcibly shoved it away. No time for that now. He sighed again, softer this time, and rubbed his face. He had been walking for gods knew how long, and his legs hurt. Just thinking about the long journey ahead made everything else ache.

What felt like hours passed, and he finally heard the faint sound of a stream burbling merrily. His heart jolted happily; it was significantly hotter here than it was up in the mountains, and he had already drained his water flask. He quickened his pace, licking his lips eagerly. Hopefully, the water was clean. He didn't want to die from dysentery; there was a kid in his village who drank from a puddle and died soon afterward. Aurelien did NOT want that to be on his own gravestone. I mean, talk about embarrassing. Soon, he came to the edge of the treeline, and he saw the stream. It flowed from the west, trailing from the larger river which also crossed his path further ahead. Beyond that was the Nannet Plains, a few trees dotting the horizon.

All of his focus was on that stream. He didn't even check his surroundings; if he was so important, surely no one would dare attack him, lest the wrath of Cekena come crashing down upon them.

He hurried towards the water, stripping off his surcoat and pulling off his satchel, setting them down on the soft grass. He kicked off his boots as well and waded into the stream. He shivered in delight at the freezing cold that enveloped his aching feet. He sat down on the bank, wiggling his toes joyfully. After a bit, he pulled his feet out and tucked them underneath his buttocks, leaning forward on his knees to cup his hands in the crisp water, splashing his sweating face. He reached over and took his flask out, rinsing it out before filling it. He chugged the entire thing, before filling it again and tucking it away. He sighed in relief, leaning back on his hands and sticking his legs out

Just then, his stomach rumbled angrily. He glanced at his satchel, biting his thumb. He really should save his rations... but surely the two villages in the Nannet Plains would have stores with which to restock. With this in mind, he dug out his dried huckleberries and goat jerky. Taking a handful of each, he feasted, taking a gulp of water between each bite and refilling it as soon as he ran out.

He sighed again, his stomach no longer loudly protesting. The sun's rays were nice and warm, and the soft grass beneath him was so inviting...

perhaps a quick nap couldn't hurt.

He laid back, tucking his arms beneath his head, and crossed his leg over his knee. He closed his eyes and as he drifted off to peaceful, dreamless sleep, he mumbled quietly, "Just a quick rest..."

And with that, the rhythmic rise and fall of his chest was the only sign he was alive, along with the gentle snoring emitting from his slightly opened mouth. He most definitely deserved this.

Haha.

What the fuck just happened?

Erebus had been doing what he always did - hunting. Hunting deep within the forests, far from home, and when weird-boar-man-creature-thing appeared in front of him, Erebus just about shit his pants. The gods were actually real? And with everything going on in Erebus' land, he couldn't bother wrapping his head around it within the moment. This was all just happening too fast, and honestly, that's something Erebus doesn't prefer. He prefers pacing, rather slow pacing, and this just was not it.

Boris, the god that Erebus' village had worshiped, requested that Erebus went to the Nannet Plains. He huffed at the thought. For what? Why would he do that? Erebus did care about his people, his home, but he wasn't that person, you know? He wasn't the sort of person to save everyone. Honestly, in most cases, he was the one who needed the saving.

Erebus slipped the compass into his leather pouched, alongside the scroll. For now, he would get his mind off of whatever the hell just happened and finish tracking this deer.

He observed the ground. The deer had gone east, towards a more open clearing. There was only a singular set of hooves, but the chances of there being a herd was high if they were in a clearing. The buck he had been tracking was young, but would make for a good feast once he returned back home to his mother.

Oh God, what was he to tell his mother? Just tell her 'yeah, Boris, a literal god, gave me a compass and a scroll telling me to go to the Nannet Plains.' Erebus shook his head. That wasn't his main concern right now.

Erebus huffed, now officially following the tracks of the deer. He stayed low and watched his footing with each step, dodging any sticks or rocks he could possibly kick. After a few more yards, he came to what he had a predicted - a clearing, with three does and a single buck. The one I'm hunting, Erebus thought. He got low, crouching be some thick foliage and using this as cover, he quietly raised his bow with an arrow.

With a slight squint, Erebus aimed right for the buck's heart. With a slight exhale, he pulled the string back, and once he felt ready, he released. The arrow flew through the air with a slight whooshing sound before barely nicking the top of the buck's head. The entire herd looked in Erebus' direction, and with a few curse words under his breath, Erebus watched the small herd dart away, back into the forest.

Erebus took time to retrieve his arrow. His mind was too clouded right now, and to be honest, he was still debating whether or not he was just daydreaming. After putting the arrow into his quiver, Erebus looked in his pouch. Compass and scroll, still tucked away. He looked up, huffing, and harnessed his bow across his body as he then began to make his way towards the plains.

It was now or never, and well, Erebus would prefer to have some living friends and family left. With very few concerns, Erebus just walked and walked. That was until he stopped, sitting on a fallen tree, pulling the scroll out and looking at what appeared to be a map. There were scribbled marks on it that Erebus couldn't find the effort to make out, so he just traced his finger over the path he would take. "If I'm here.... and the plains are here, then I need to go... here," he told himself, mentally noting his path before putting the map back into his pouch and continuing on his way.

This was going to be interesting.
